Guest Reviews
- Emanuel (10/5): - Personalul foarte amabil. Eu sunt foarte mulțumit, de raportul pret-calitate. Recomand cu drag Sunt țânțari in camera de baie și camera, as recomanda plasa de țânțari, la fiecare geam.
- Richard (10/5): -
- YUKIKO (10/5): - It was such a comfortable and welcoming place to stay.
I honestly regret only staying for one night.
The family was so kind and welcoming.
When I arrived exhausted, they immediately brought me water, which I really appreciated.
For dinner, I could choose from the menu, and the Malagasy food was absolutely delicious.
Breakfast is usually served from 7:00 AM, but since I had an early flight, she woke up earlier just to prepare breakfast for me.
I was truly touched by her kindness.
Thanks to this wonderful hospitality, my stay in Antananarivo became such a special and unforgettable memory.
Madagascar is a big country, and I really think it deserves at least two weeks to explore.
Everything about this place was amazing!
Big hug!!

⚠️Notes
* Cash payment only
* Wi-Fi is a bit weak, so I recommend buying a SIM card at the airport
* Hot water takes some time, but it works properly
* Airport transfer is €10 if arranged by the accommodation, which is reasonable (same price as negotiating at the airport)
* Some unofficial drivers may offer cheaper prices, but I would not recommend them as it could lead to trouble later
Big hug!!
- Zuzanna (7/5): Not as good as the rating shows but can be okay for a night if you're on a budget - - officially I was told I was upgraded to a better room (however from my booking to be honest it looked like it is exactly this room that I booked - the one with private bathroom)
- the hosts were helpful and in good communication before I arrived but I also I didn't understand giving me very touristy prices for arranging a taxi back to the airport maybe wishing I won't notice, mixed feelings about it, even though they seemed welcoming at the end I kinda felt it was all just about the money and not so much honesty - water pressure issues (but this is sth very common in Tana)
- wifi working so so - sometimes all good sometimes not possible to connect at all
- even though it looks like close to the airport it's not the best location as there are no taxis/motorbikes/stops at all to reach for your flight
- I won't argue that this is value for price but to be honest was a bit disappointed for what you get and how high it was rated by others

- Esseko (8/5): It was wonderful and I strongly recommend it to other visitors. - The owner and helpers all served me very well. They were always helpful, understanding, and ready to make my stay comfortable and enjoyable. I strongly recommend this property to any body, group, or family visiting Tana. I cannot demand more for what I paid. Actually if I needed anything they were ready to provide at an affordable price. I am fully satisfied and ready to stay at the residence once I visit again.
- Ikbalhoussen (8/5): -
A découvrir absolument. -
- benjamin (8/5): - Great hospitality
- Guest (10/5): Tianay has a very helpful, thoughtful host who was readily available to support us on What’s App. - The host Murielle was extremely helpful and very responsive on What’s App. Murielle arranged for us to be picked up from the airport at midnight and was waiting to welcome us.
We could not have asked for more and highly recommend Tianay as a place to stay.
- TATY (7/5): Warm Welcome and Comfortable Stay, but Modest Facilities - The ladies who welcomed us were very kind and always ready to help. The breakfast was different and we had the chance to try traditional dishes, which was a nice touch. The dinner was also good, and we were impressed with the excellent service, especially since our check-in was quite late, around 11 PM.
The beds were comfortable, the rooms were modest, and the bathroom was old and not very comfortable. This guest house is run by a local family, and they’ve converted the second floor into guest rooms.
It's conveniently located near the airports, making it a great option for an overnight stay if you don’t want to travel all the way into Antananarivo. It's a good spot for a short, convenient stay. There was a water cut during our stay, and unfortunately, there was no water tank available. However, the house staff kindly provided buckets of hot water so we could take old-fashioned showers on the check-out day. These situations are part of the experience, but if I had known that water cuts are frequent in the capital, I would have stayed at a hotel with a “Plan B” — a water tank. This was particularly inconvenient as it was the last night before our return, with duration of 22 hours of flights and layovers, and we wanted to have a proper shower before leaving.
The location wasn’t as pleasant as expected because the streets are very narrow. I wouldn’t recommend this place for someone with a rented car without a local driver who knows the area. I also found the "taxi" fares to be expensive, given that the distance to both the national and international airports isn’t long, and the hotel is outside Antananarivo, so we reached the accommodation quickly without hitting traffic. The rating of 8.7 seems misleading to me, and it’s very subjective. When evaluating accommodations, we should consider the property itself rather than any personal connection or sympathy towards the hosts.
- Marie (10/5): Super !
- K (1/5): - I selected this accommodation by sorting out with "kitchen" as an offered facility, and it indicated "shared kitchen", which was fine with me.
After arrival, the host requested to pay money, 20,000 (4~5 euro), just for heating a few minutes of microwave. It doesn't say such cost.
I wanted to discuss, then the host shouted me "get out". I gave up and stayed in the room, then he chased me and kept knocking on the door aggressively.
Shortly, he disconnected my access to WiFi, as it was set as "hidden network," which can be controlled by the host. It's a scary and unacceptable experience. Why did I know it was intentional? Because during the discussion, I raised the points of free WiFi and kitchen as the points of selecting accommodation. It wasn't a general network issue, as it continued for the whole day, and I listened the family used the Internet. He wanted me to fail in another trouble.
One more issue, they assigned me to the room which was not cleaned up. The reason I knew is that I saw a chunk of hairs in the bathroom and sink, also the bed linen was unclean. It was obvious that the room was already used, but I was told that when the hairs are long, they can't remove. Really? So, it goes remain forever?Actually, I could easily take them off. For the linen, I sincerely asked to change (and I helped it) to avoid bed bugs, just in case. Then, I could see the difference as clean this time.
Regarding the location, it takes at least 30 minutes to the main street by walking into the poverty district. I felt unsafe. I chose this accommodation just because it was relatively close to the airport, but it wasn't good decision.
Additionally, I certainly booked "a double room with terrace" and sent a message to confirm "I booked the double room with terrace on the picture (8/28) of Booking.com website". But I was actually given a room without a terrace.
Desayuno completo incluido. Nada
- massimiliano (10/5): -
- Jacquelina (8/5): Great, would stay again - Staff are great, location is good, rooms are comfy /
- Jacquelina (8/5): It was great thanks! - Friendly, good food, efficient, good location
- Jennifer (9/5): A lovely warm and friendly place to stay - Returned for a second stay and arrived from the airport very late, so it was especially good that it only took 20 minutes to get to Residence Tianay. Once again Murielle and Dihary were at the door to greet me and as I said in my last review it was really good to hear Dihary's excellent English as I do struggle with French.
As I left at 06.30 the next morning I was too early for breakfast but Murielle very kindly left me a packed breakfast.
It is a lovely place to stay as Murielle and Dihary are so attentive and considerate.
- Jennifer (9/5): Very happy with my stay - Although I arrived later than expected Murielle and Dihary and Cookie the adorable dog, were on the doorstep to greet me (and had given instructions to my driver by telephone on my way). Dihary speaks good English and Murielle speaks a little English and French so communication was no problem at all.
My room was large and comfortable and my bathroom was just across the landing with hot water for my shower. I was offered food which was so kind at that time of night, but I just needed a shower and to sleep.
A nice breakfast was served for me in a private dining area upstairs.
Tianay is perfect for the airport, which even in Tana morning traffic at 08.30 only took 30 minutes.
- Jennifer (9/5): So happy to stay a third time - My 3rd overnight stay of my 3 week holiday in Madagascar and it was like coming home. It had been a long day of driving and I was very hungry on arrival and with no pre warning Murielle made me a delicious vegetarian pasta dish. This time I had an en suite bathroom and another comfortable bed and spacious room.
As I still had some childrens clothes, soap, crayons and colouring books that I hadn't yet distributed, Murielle very kindly said that she would give them to local people that needed them--I had read in a review that Murielle and Dihary are involved in helping the local community and local school so this was a perfect solution for the last of the things that I'd brought with me.
Another great breakfast and then a visit to the Crocodile Farm to while away a couple of hours on the way to the airport.
- Mislav (10/5): Absolutely amazing stay with this family :) - - Host and her family are such nice people, we really loved our stay here and we’re sad that it was only for one night
- The room was comfortable
- Great location close to the airport plus they offer pick-up and drop off which is super convenient
- Amazing dinner with lots of options to choose
- Local breakfast was tasty
- They have a cute dog named Cookie who is so friendly and wants to cuddle :)) Nothing, we really enjoyed here.
- Geena (10/5): Home Away From Home in the Capital - Everything! The host was super helpful even though we don’t speak French. She cooked delicious meals each night of our stay and it was all very reasonable priced!
You can tell they really care about the cleanliness of the place and the rooms were lovely. I also really liked the neighborhood we were in as we could walk around and explore comfortably. Not too far of a drive from the airport either.
Money from your stay goes to support the children in the community. Nothing!
- Rosa (8/5): Very good -
- Ryan (9/5): Excellent hosts and comfortable stay! - The host was absolutely brilliant. We had an issue with the bed that we were given and she changed us to another room without question. We also have to leave very early the next morning to drive a long way and she made a take away breakfast which was really nice. The bed was one of the most comfortable we have had in Madagascar and the shower was good. Really lovely place.
If you are coming with a 4x4, it is a very tight entrance alley.
- Sarfo (7/5): Good - Excellent Communication barrier. I don’t understand French or Malagasy language.
- Lenon (10/5): The most incredible night in Tana I could imagine as a solo traveller. - Amazing beautiful house with a nice family. Nothing!
- Laenen (9/5): Superb - great location and nice host's and staff.
- Vladimir (10/5): Exceptional - Very good hosts, tranquil and clean room, perfect food malgashe
- Gordon (10/5): Nice stay with a welcoming family, great value - This is like a home stay with a super nice Malagasy family. It's a room with a private bathroom, breakfast is included, and they will serve dinner. it's a very friendly and welcoming ambiance. it's not far from the airport. We had a late afternoon flight so we arranged with the owner to visit Rova Ambohimanga then drop us at the airport, which was well worth doing. This place is great value for the price.
- Michelle (10/5): Exceptional - Supersweet people, who made us a nice diner en breakfast. They even can arrange a transfer to the airport for you. Great value for money. A little hard to get there with a big 4x4 ;). But with their help we managed.
- Terence (10/5): Exceptional -
- Terence (10/5): Exceptional -
- Terence (10/5): Made me feel right at home! - Breakfast was fine, I liked the effort the staff made to make me feel at home; also, the pick up service from the airport was very good. They: Murielle, also arranged a driver, and car to take me to see "Ambohimanga" - it was an enjoyable excursion! I also found a place not far away to buy some beer, and chippies!
- Susan (10/5): Residence tianay, home away from home. - Our host, Madam Murielle, was very welcoming and warm. The food was excellent, pocket friendly prices. The residence is very clean and calm and has an excellent ambience. We felt home away from home, and anytime I am in madagascar's residence, tianay will be my home. She always ensured we were comfortable every day, she got us a taxi every time we wanted to go out.I definitely recommend residence tianay. Language barrier was my major struggle, and I couldn't communicate with people. The currency used also, I recommend Usage of dollars and swiping services. Power cuts are also rampant in madagascar.
- Christian (9/5): Very good and economical. - Very hospitable family, and very nice house, and very good taxi service.
- Maria (5/5): Passable - Shower Generator was missing
- Long (10/5): Exceptional - Good place! Makes you feel relaxed and comfortable, breakfast is also very good, I will come back again!
- Laurence (7/5): Good - The people were very helpful and friendly No kettle in room. No self catering facilities.
- Elango (10/5): Exceptional - The family are lovely. And the food was amazing and they accommodated to our vegetarian needs.
- Wolfgang (9/5): Great experience - Extremely friendly and helpful people, especially Madame Murielle. Best price ever. Real nice garden Not easy to find (but not impossible ;-)
