- Helen (9/5): Girl's weekend away for a Christmas treat. 😁🎄 - Location is ideal. Tranquil and restful. Cottage is spacious but still cosy. Well equipped with everything you would have at home.
Friendly pub a few minutes walk away and quiet village. Could do with a few blankets for those of us that feel the cold.
Perhaps a Christmas tree or some decorations as a nod to the season.
Perfect though.
- Christine (8/5): Great stay for family get together. - Great location. Spacious house warm and comfortable. Owner communicative and helpful. Dishwasher not working. Could do with some wine glasses.

- Ella (6/5): Great property, fab location, just needs a little love - Lovely quirky old property and great communication from owner Sadly it wasn’t very clean. Cobwebs in all windows, dirty oven, and old socks under one of the double beds - would also have been helpful to have a welcome sheet with explanations about heating controls in all rooms etc. Sorry, we booked for someone’s birthday and it didn’t quite live up to the pics
- Ann (9/5): - Don’t think there were hand towels as well as bath towels.
Lamps in sitting room would be nice - we moved the upstairs ones downstairs whilst we were there.
But otherwise fab!
Thank you.

- craig (1/5): Awful , misleading - Address said it was in Bakewell it is not the place when we finally found it was in the middle of nowhere. It was tired looking flies everywhere and when we went up stairs . There was a smell like someone had died there . We loaded the car back up and took the two hour drive home . See what we liked above

- Rosemary (9/5): Lovely place to stay - The Chapel is in a beautiful part of the Peak District. It is very well managed and an ideal base for couples or a family get together. Nothing
- Simone (8/5): -
- Hannah (10/5): - Excellent location

- Mark (8/5): Very good - Location and unusual building. Lots of room and a specious house. Excellent value for money for the size The towels and bed linen, particularly in the small twin room were a bit old, and with a stain or two
- Jim (9/5): Great base for a short trip away with friends - Unusual character property, good location The interior and furniture were a bit tired and dated
- Jenna (6/5): Pleasant -
- Rose (9/5): Superb -
- Ingrid (10/5): Wayne was a fabulous host. Very very helpful indeed. - Beautiful location. 2 nice little pubs just a few minutes walk away . Nice and peaceful Can't think off anything
- Sean (9/5): Really good stay in a converted chapel in a quiet Peak District village - Great chapel conversion retaining features like the stained glass windows and super bath in master bedroom. Nice open plan living space with great dining table and large TV with Netflix, Disney plus etc. 2 min walk to both pubs in Birchover. Lovely quiet village. The living room was quite bare - could have used some board games, cards, chess set etc. to make it feel more homely and give groups something to do in the evening besides watch TV.
- Catherine (8/5): Unusual property - Lovely stained glass. Comfy beds Worktop in the kitchen needed a clean.
- Sally (8/5): Stunning well positioned chapel conversion for 6 people - Lovely building. Well done out, great space for 5 adults. 2 fabulous pubs down the road and good facilities. Three comfy bedrooms, and a great sitting space. Stunning oak table but very rustic and hard to clean if you spill something. Was a perfect 2 day stop over in a beautiful setting. Thank you. The dishwasher is still broken.
Be aware that the gorgeous stain glass windows have no curtains, so it can get light in the bedrooms very early.
3 bathrooms is one downstairs loo, full bathroom with shower upstairs and a bath and sink in the master bedroom. , so two loos, one shower, one bath, three sinks. We were aware of this due to other comments, but it is worth being clear.
No outdoor area to sit
- Amy (3/5): Disappointed with the cleanliness. Distracted from a relaxing stay. - Had everything that we needed for our stay. The property was extremely dirty, bathrooms not cleaned with urine stains, some of the towels were not clean. Surfaces and light fittings thick with dust.
- Ford (8/5): Great venue and location. - Cooked breakfast indoors. Every draw in the freezer was frozen with an inch of ice at the bottom, this could have been defrosted and cleaned out.
- Laura (7/5): Great location, comfortable house but some broken facilities and no outside area to use. - The positives are the following: Location - walking distance to two excellent pubs and a short, scenic drive to Bakewell. Also several lovely walks that you can do directly from the house. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and perfect for a group of 5 or 6. The beds are comfortable. There is a good TV and good WiFi. We had trouble getting into the house, and the host was very responsive and came over to help us which was great. The facilities in the house could have been better. The dishwasher was broken, the window in the bathroom did not open, the hot tap in the sink in the bedroom did not work and on our last morning there was no hot water (we did not report this, as were were leaving anyway). There was no kind of welcome pack, and no information in the house about how things work, local amenities, ideas for walks etc...which was a shame. There is no outside area for the house, and the front door opens onto quite a busy road so this could be an issue for those staying with dogs or small children.
- Claire (8/5): Would recommend - Lovely old building, 2 nice pubs in walking distance, beds were comfy and large dining/living room. Very easy check In process with the key safe. Ideal for visiting chatsworth, matlock and bakewell. Dishwasher was broken, only one shower which leaked into the living room. Left over food from previous guests still in the freezer. Could do with a deep clean
- Karen (3/5): Poor - The cleaner needs to look at every area especially in the toilet areas.. the skirting boards are disgusting. it’s very dusty in the lower areas of the whole chapel… the cleaner needs to look closer in every area.. Wayne was lovey but his cleaner is definitely letting him down..
the kitchen needs a refit.. the fridge didn’t shut and the freezer was dirty with other people’s stuff left inside..
I would advise a huge upgrade to this property..
also no windows had curtains so my friends did not sleep after 5am! Not good at all
- Rachael (9/5): A fabulous evening meeting with friends in a beautiful period property. - Beautiful building, with some fabulous architecture. Clean and everything in working order. We only stayed one night, but found nothing wrong with it.
- Rachel (8/5): An amazing property but needs a little bit of maintenance - Stunning location. Unique accommodation. A lovely property but a few issues - shower door didn't close properly and there appears to be a leak. After a few quick showers there was water dripping in the lounge which we managed to collect in a cup. Also disappointing to find the dishwasher was broken.
- Bentley (8/5): very spacious and comfortable, and great location for local walks and dining - great location for local walks and dining dishwasher out of order.
- Jess (8/5): The chapel was beautiful, we went to the pub in the village and had a nice meal - Yes it was beautiful
- Karl (8/5): Very good - Very spacious accommodation in a great location. The lounge and dining area are big. The kitchen was well equipped (with exception of no dishwasher). The check in process was easy (via key safe). Overall good quality accommodation and good value for money. There was no functioning dishwasher, so for a larger group dining this was a little inconvenient. I contacted the host via email through booking.com to ask a question but did not get a response. A tip for future guests - bring towels as there were not enough provided for the number of people staying.
- Elaine (8/5): Very nice for a short getaway - Very spacious and lovely character, almost all amenities. 2 decent pubs well within walking distance Whilst it wasn’t dirty the Lack of cleaning very apparent; aged cobwebs and dust clearly visible in all rooms. The bedding was clean and comfy, however. Dishwasher broken which isn’t ideal for a group booking of six
- Gallagher (9/5): Superb -
- Thomas (8/5): A unique house close to nearby attractions, but could use better maintenance and cleaning. - The house was cozy, spacious and comfortable, and the old stained glass windows add some unique charm. Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and the shops at Bakewell were all within about a 15 minute drive. We were unable to get consistent hot water in the shower, and the quilt in the master bedroom hadn’t been washed and had a bad smell. The dishwasher in the kitchen was also broken, which was a little inconvenient.
- Mary (6/5): Chapel house in Derbyshire - The location and concept of the converted chapel was great. The dining /living room was spacious and comfortable. The whole place could have been cleaned for the next user and new bed sheet clean and fresh as new. The ccoking area and some cups and plates were not cleaned property. We saw spider webs in the bathroom and bedroom. The pillows and duvet in the nain bedroom were not fresh and you could smell someone else used them beforehand. Not a fan of sprung mattress as they are not comfortable.
- Rebecca (6/5): Lovely setting but falls short of expectations for this price - The stained glass windows, the warmth upon entering & the local pub The Druid inn. The uncomfortable beds, the coffee & sugar granules in cups which were open to the air, the lack of a bit of milk for a cup of tea on arrival, the lack of information such as recycling/fire exits/etc
- Francisco (10/5): Exceptional -
- Heather (8/5): Very good - Warm, cosy and comfortable - a great location with lovely walks and a couple of nice pubs in the village. We did have some problems with flies that seem to have hiberated in the window frames - think this was probably a one off due to the changing seasons.
- Penny (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely property nicely converted
Clean and cosy
- Jeanne (8/5): Very good - Super building, beautifully done out in a good location. Main bedroom had several, 5 or 6 flies, after we got rid of those, there was more. So decided to open the velux to shoo them out but then a swarm tried to get in, so slammed it shut. I have notified the owner, who hasn't taken it seriously! Lots of dust and cobwebs behind beds and door, even on tv table, needs a good vacuming in corners etc.
Also notified outside light not working, a must on dark nights.
- Karen (8/5): Very good -
- Debbie (8/5): Very good -
- Yan (9/5): Superb - Beautiful property in a quiet area, we loved it.
- Holme (8/5): Good for overnight stay - Nice property and good location for the Peak District and its amenities and attractions. Parking is limited to two cars, and this is shared with the lower part of this chapel. The chapel is split into two lots of holiday accommodations. So you don't get the whole chapel.
- Isabel (8/5): Very good -
- Cittern (8/5): Great space for a group of adults to share - Parking space, spacious individual rooms
Lovely location
- Rebecca (8/5): Very good - Liked the idea of a converted chapel, didn’t explore surrounding area as there for 1 night. It could’ve been cleaner. Empty crisp packet poking out from under a chair, hair grip on floor and a pile of rubbish on the banister. A good going around with a duster would have helped!
- Alastair (10/5): Exceptional - Beautifully serene and peaceful place to stay. Excellent host.
- Sue (6/5): Lovely old chapel but in need of some attention by owner - Great location- lovely village and so close to Bakewell and Chatsworth. Converted chapel so building was characteristic. Nice communal lounge area. Where to start- this property has not been cared for. The doors all squeaked, beds were creaky and not the best mattresses. The property was not properly cleaned- dirty mugs in the cupboard and dusty/dirty. The dishwasher was broken and based on previous review, has been since at least February. Hardly any communication from owner. No welcome or instructions. It could be so lovely but we were very disappointed.
- Marie (5/5): Ok if you like quirky and don’t mind bugs! - Nice village, interesting building refurb. The property was not very clean, there were many cobwebs, dead bugs under a bed and lots of live and dead spiders in plain sight. The dishwasher washer was also broken which would have been an issue for a longer stay. There also needs to be better fire safety considerations as the windows didn’t really open and the one we tried nearly slammed down on a finger.
- Ella (9/5): Superb -
- Mark (9/5): Superb - natural light and stained glass windows
dining table
large lounge area
Good size bedrooms no light on the outside steps
we assumed we were in the accommodation next to the parking space not round the corner and up the steps
a pint of milk would have been welcome as there was no local shop
tea towels could have been provided as the dishwasher was broken
- Jan (8/5): Birchover Chapel Chill - Fully equipped kuchen, nice decor, and very well presented. Could do with coffee table in front of the sofas.
- Marie (7/5): Good -
- Daniel (7/5): Good - Nice building No Milk or tea or coffee, just some small extras like that would have been nice.
- Jane (5/5): Would not stay there again. - Lovely features in the old chapel. Well equipped property. Good location. Very disappointed in the standards of cleanliness. Bed sheets had not been changed in one of the bedrooms - quilt could not be used. Shower room floor and vent needed cleaning.
Only 5 teabags were provided and the instant coffee was in a mug and had gone hard.
- Sacha (8/5): Very warm, welcoming and a lovely house :) - Everything as advertised and more!
Was very modern and spacious inside, everything has been well thought out as the property still had lots of character.
We only needed a base as we were taking part in a charity hike, but it was very comfortable and could easily have stayed a few days.
The location is absolutely perfect and I would highly recommend! There is nothing that was a major concern and would not stop me returning.
A few cobwebs in the windows in the twin room and the down stairs toilet did smell a bit musty - I think due to lack of air flow in there as it was clean.
- Jessica (9/5): Superb -
- Collette (7/5): We had a great weekend in a lovely village with 2 great pubs but felt it was a little overpriced for the accommodation - Great location in a lovely village. Comfy beds and plenty of sofas. Well equipped kitchen. We felt the accommodation could benefit from a deep clean. Disappointed the dishwasher wasn't working.
- Debra (10/5): Perfect property for a group stay in Derbyshire - Very well serviced, comfortable, clean and excellent amenities
A spacious, well laid out and attractive property No outdoor space and limited parking
- Victoria (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amanda (8/5): We thorough enjoyed our stay and felt relaxed and comfortable, a lovely cottage full of character. - Good location Felt it could have been cleaned a little better, fridge hadn’t been cleaned out and there were cobwebs around the building. However this didn’t spoil our holiday.
- Hannah (7/5): Good -
- Jackie (8/5): One night stay in Birchover - The facilities were good and we were comfortable. The property was warm and light, and there was a pub within walking distance where we had our evening meal. We were disappointed that the bathrooms were not as expected., There was a bath and basin in one bedroom (useless without a toilet as well). The other toilet was downstairs. We were only staying one night so this was workable.
- Paul (10/5): Would stay again - Spacious and lovely location Few cobwebs around kitchen window but I suppose that’s rural life
- James (5/5): Passable -
- Julie (7/5): Good -
- Rachel (7/5): Good - Beautiful location, parking, big rooms everything you would need It wasn’t clean - dust and dirt on all the floors, marks on bed sheets etc
- Rachel (4/5): A good base in a beautiful area but the property felt a little neglected. - The property is situated in a lovely village in wonderful countryside and is quiet - no outdoor space but parking good. It was warm and spacious and a good base for walking and visiting - 2 good pubs The property was poorly equipped in the kitchen with a broken dishwasher - not particularly clean in the lounge /kitchen but tidy. Beautiful windows but no view and some windows not able to open ( bathroom window was locked)
- Oliver (8/5): Very good -
- James (10/5): Stayed for 3 days with our kids. Beautiful location with easy access to some great walks and pubs. - Beautiful little converted chapel in a lovely quiet village.
- Frances (7/5): Just what we needed - Beautiful building with clean and fresh decor, whilst maintaining character. The house was warm, welcoming and is exactly what we needed for the overnight stay. The dining room/kitchen/living room is a lovely social space. Unfortunately the dishwasher wasn't working (and no washing up liquid supplied). Shower didn't give hot water (dial faultyl and beds uncomfortable.
- Rebecca (10/5): Lovely house, beautiful surroundings - Beautiful property, great place to socialise with a big group!
- Ruth (10/5): Really beautiful conversion and lovely area! - Lovely and spacious and very warm
- Michelle (9/5): Superb - Birchover chapel was just fabulous, plenty of space, facilities great. 5 min walk to 2 pubs. Lovely underfloor heating. We saw the owner had a quick chat and he was kind enough to pop back with milk for us. A great stay while visiting chatsworth house 15 mins down the road. Not a problem for some but being women of a certain age it did get a little warm for us, soon solved by turning the hearers down
- Nikkela (9/5): Beautiful accommodation. Really enjoyed our stay and felt at home and cosy. Comfiest beds ever! - Decorated beautifully throughout. Very cosy. Beds were extremely comfy. master bedroom was really hot during the night, despite thermostat being at minimum.
- Suzanne (9/5): Well recommended and we plan to return. - Stunning location, beautiful spacious apartment with gorgeous original stained glass. Very helpful host.
- Whitham (10/5): Excellent property and great for exploring the local vicinity - Perfect location for exploring the local area. Excellent pub just down the road and just a short drive to Matlock
- Samantha (10/5): Lovely area for walking, nice pubs. - Gorgeous property, well set out and equipped A bit on the expensive side
- Amanda (9/5): Very comfortable property located in a beautiful area. - Comfort, location, beautiful building. The description of having 3 bathrooms is strictly correct however, one of the bathrooms is just a downstairs toilet. Another bathroom is a handbasin and a bath within the master bedroom. The only full bathroom was good but would benefit from having a privacy lock on the door.
- Alan (8/5): Very good -
- Michelle (9/5): Wonderful, comfortable conversion - This is a really well thought out conversion of an older property, which feels like a home while keeping touches of its history all through it. The kitchen is really well stocked and you could cook anything in it, and there's load of space for spreading out in the living room - we had a sofa each! You could walk to the village pubs and the Wi-Fi was great, especially considering I had no reception on my phone at all. There's only one shower in the three bathrooms, which was fine as there was only three of us, but could be frustrating if you had six people staying (the max capacity). The parking is shared so with the apartment downstairs and the cottage next door, and unfortunately when we were there we were dealing with selfish neighbours who ignored the parking instructions and left no room on the driveway when we could have easily fit on if they'd had a bit more consideration. That's not the owner's fault but you might find yourself having to find on-street parking.
- Lucy (8/5): A really lovely stay, for an excellent price! - Easy to find, in a lovely location. The chapel is full of character and The stained glass windows were stunning! Accommodation was great especially the open plan dining and living space. Two large bedrooms with double beds and one small room with 2 single beds in.
The free standing bath was a really cool feature! The lighting in the main living space was a bit dim considering it was so large. There were a few cobwebs in the main bedroom.
- Jian (8/5): Very good - Nice setting in a beautiful village.
- Patricia (6/5): Disappointed …not good value for money - Location No outside space
Described as having 3 bathrooms…only one bath one shower and 2 toilets
Dead bees and flies inside window fittings
Washing machine didn’t work
Dusty
Poorly equipped kitchen
- Emma (9/5): Nice property in a very picturesque, well to do village - Great, exactly what we needed as a group of friends reuniting from corners of the country, comfortable and nicely decorated. The area was gorgeous, I have never been to this part of the UK and it was lovely, crowded, but lovely. Pilgrim was fab for a few beers and an evening meal Dishwasher was broken, 3rd bedroom was quite cramped with 2 x single beds
- Mohammed (10/5): Exceptional -
- Louise (10/5): Exceptional -
- Moira (7/5): Good -
- Rachael (10/5): Lovely place - Lovely design and style It is a very warm house
- Smith (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kerri (9/5): Superb -
- Clarkson (10/5): it was a lovely and much needed night away with friends - just wish we could’ve stayed there for longer - it was gorgeous inside and out nothing :)
- Shelley (10/5): We had a fabulous weekend at Birchover Chapel! Wayne the host was amazing and went above & beyond to make sure we ha - Loved everything about Birchover Chapel especially the large lounge where we were able to relax for the weekend!
- Carmen (10/5): Wish we could have stayed longer - Beautiful property in an amazing location Nothing
