Guest Reviews
- Charles (9/5): Great, cheap, classic breakfast, and an overall friendly vibe - Liked the comfy beds and the spacious room. Liked the breakfast room, with the home-cooked option feeling very old-fashioned in a good way. Yum Brekky. Showers and Bathroom were closer to hostel standard but very clean and definitely adequate. The ski room was under the entrance stairwell, so it was a major pain to put them in there. Not a big thing. The main detriment was that the bar underneath was pretty loud. Some fantastic singing that was had there. Didn't affect sleep or anything and we were arguably the closest room to it.
- Davin (5/5): Avoid unless you want to stay up all night and be surrounded by obnoxious drunks. - The breakfast each morning was decent. The quality was good, but the portions were very, very tiny. If you wanted more, then the only option was cereal or toast. It was way too noisy. I didn't realize that the rooms are above a bar, and not just any bar, but what seemed like a destination for Australians, who were constantly yelling until 12:30 am or 1 am, congregating in the streets outside the rooms, and occasionally even loudly hanging out in the hallways until 3 am. They clearly didn't come to Niseko to ski, but rather only to party. And it's not even that cool of a bar. It's just a bunch of loud Aussies and some Americans who want to be in a place that feelsl just like their home country, and not like Japan (which is pretty lame). The staff is mostly made of up Austrailians who must get free room and board or something, but they were pretty indifferent about providing good service.
- Mason (10/5): -
- Oscar (4/5): - The beds, the rooms were great and our main host was fantastic ! Honestly if you’re a couple/family who’s just wanting to ski/board. Do not come here !!! The combo of the bar, the loud staff and the house parties nearby it kind of ruined our skiing experience. You’re better off spending $30 extra and getting a hotel.
The staff bar the host really sucked. I get its end of season but they were unfriendly and just didn’t care. They were all coughing and most likely gave us covid as we’ve been sick ever since. This is very much a season filler for them so you very much feel like you’re just staying as guests in their home and they simply just don’t care and we had 0 interactions with them.
If you’re looking for party and late nights with very little focus on the skiing then this is the place for you. However if you just want to ski and have a good time on the slopes and feel well rested, literally go anywhere else.
- Eva (8/5): -
- Hannah Louise (10/5): - Great place to stay and friendly staff. Very accommodating
- Seabert (10/5): - Immaculate vibe. Stay classy There's nothing to hate here.
- Damian (7/5): Pet project could be great with a little more effort - This pension has a bar "half note" in the basement & the same staff run the bar & the accommodation. This gives the place a really fun vibe, but also it's being run by young people that seem perpetually hungover. The other standout item was the feather doonahs - so airy and warm - some of the best sleeps I've had in months despite the challenging conditions.
There's a communal fridge in the kitchen and a washing machine in the basement with powder supplied. The heater in my room (two floors above the bar, next to the street, pictured) had some kind of exhaust leak. I had to leave the window on the opposite wall ajar to keep the air breathable. It's not because the vent on the outside becomes blocked but you also have to monitor that if there's a lot of snow.
The bar closes at 11:30 and the patrons leaving are noisy, but if you sleep with ear plugs it's not an issue. You also can't hear the music through the floor which is kind of impressive actually.
They have parking and it's mostly staff vehicles. With a little more snow removal and organisation each vehicle could have its own spot & remove the car shuffling problem for guests.
It looked like the floor to the toilets was not cleaned for the week that I was there.

- Dickerson (10/5): - great location and rooms. staff was incredibly friendly and breakfast was great
- Caitlin (9/5): Will be back again!! - Great location and excellent service, Nyoki and his staff went above and beyond! Good breakfast and great vibes in the afternoon with the fire! Never needed to wait for a shower or bathroom. Overall, great stay and experience. We did find it sometimes a bit loud when people were hanging around outside of the bar downstairs but not a problem if you are in a room on the other side!
- Edin (10/5): Best stay of our trip - Fantastic place. The staff are incredibly friendly, kind, and inviting. Made some great friends and the bar below the accommodation was a bonus - it went off every night, and we made some great memories. Great location for skiing too - well, a little walk, but nothing too bad.
- Brenton (10/5): Best holiday ever! - Awesome vibe. Great location. Great amenities. We loved everything.
- Rebecca (10/5): -
- Sam (10/5): -
- Joshua (10/5): Great Location, staff and cozy vibes - The hostel had the best vibe, staff were super friendly and helpful. Cozy common room with plenty of room. Heater in the room was perfect for drying out wet socks. Location is great as it is close to the mountain and the bar downstairs is great. Definitely see myself coming back Water pressure was pretty low but nothing to complain about
- mori (6/5): -
- Hang (7/5): Apart from the sharing toilets with drunk people from the bar, everything else was fine with us. Very friendly staffs wh - Friendly staffs and good location Sharing toilets with the guests from the bar so often got vomits and dirty things in it
- Mickey (10/5): -
- Nicolas (10/5): -
- Santiago (10/5): Bonita estancia, muy buen rollo con el personal. Súper Recomendable - La ubicación lo mejor y el buen ambiente
- catherine (10/5): Very glad I stayed there, keen for a return visit - Great staff, perfect location in town, good storage.
Easy shuttle bus access to the lifts. The fumes from the kerosene heater, but it was bearable with the window open
- Rebecca (10/5): The best place in Hirafu - Look nowhere else as this place is perfect. It’s like a beautiful European chalet in the heart of hirafu. The location is perfect, the beds couldn’t be more comfortable and to top it off Nocki was the best host - so kind and even drove us to the station at 6am. The beds were insanely comfy and the fireplace was always blazing after a good days skiing. The shuttle was just outside too which is perfect. Loved and can’t recommend enough. Nothing!
- Jake (10/5): Everything about this place was perfect, definitely coming back - Absolutely everything Nothing
- Tim (10/5): - Good value compared with other options. Location also good. Friendly staff.
- Guy (9/5): Old style - The room was of a good size for 2. The breakfast was good enough to start the day. The location was excellent with eating places in easy reach and shuttle stop across the road. The lounge with fireplace was great for a drink, meal, chat with other guests, a highlight. Old style lodge with character. The stairs down to the bathroom were exceptionally steep, shower heads were narrow and it took a while for hot water to arrive. Rain heads in the shower would have been nice.
- Andras (10/5): - Extremely cute little hotel with a homely living room and shared bathroom facilities. Wonderful hospitality by our kid host, Nyoki.
- au chun (9/5): A fantastic lodge exuding fantastic ambience in an excellent location in middle hirafu. We will be back…very soon. Domo - Pension fullnote is a fantastic lodge style accommodation w comfortable beds, communal lounge/dining/fireplace. Our room (206) faced Mt Yotei and she greeted us on quite a few mornings n even some afternoons. Toilets on each floor were spotless. Communal sinks (M n F) on first floor only. Breakfast was simple but def ample. The staff esp Nyokki were excellent n very helpful about hirafu, restaurant recommendations, picking us up n taking us to the Welcome Hirafu Centre. Directly opposite the free bus shuttle was super convenient. Great restaurants all around our lodge w lots of choice plus food truck areas n konbinis within 5 min walk. Access to a microwave n fridge in the communal area was fantastic. A free washing machine n slow dryer were located in the basement. Showers in basement were always clean. Didn’t have to wait. You can also access the downstairs Halfnote Pub from the basement and go to your room the same way. My husband thought this was the highlight of the lodge. Great facilities for this price point. If you are not prepared to use communal facilities then probably not for you. The showers were down really steep stairs in basement next to the Halfnote Bar. I never saw another person in the shower. Somewhat disconcerting hearing the pub patrons whilst showering but not an issue. Would have liked a better mirror in the bedroom. We had also heard the noise from the pub was loud but we didn’t have any problems.
- Andreas (8/5): -
- Hannah (10/5): Perfect location for skiing and enjoying Hirafu village, and great price in comparison to the rest of the area. - The pension was so cozy and welcoming, noki (sp?) was such a gracious host!
- Felipe (7/5): Great base for skiing in Niseko, reminded me a bit of some older ski lodges at Hotham with shared bathroom facilities an - Old style ski lodge, very friendly and helpful host and staff, comfortable beds and rooms, breakfast, pick up and drop off at Welcome Centre, Shuttle stop across the road. Low shower pressure, toilet maintenance.
- guy (10/5): -
- Melanie (9/5): Great location, walking distance to the slopes - Great location for skiing, within walking distance to the tows. Staff are really nice and breakfast is freshly made every day.
- James (10/5): A perfect spot to acces japow - The staff at pension full note is absolutely incredible. Nokki is incredibly friendly and takes hospitality seriously. Location and atmosphere is also top notch.
- Chris (10/5): Incredible location, comfortable housing, and great staff. Will stay here again! - Amazing staff. Great breakfast. Close to everything. Rooms were a little dusty
- justin (9/5): Quintessential Japanese mountain home - The property is a quintessential mountain lodge. They have breakfast and good vibes. Fireplace is often crackling and the most lively spot in town is in the basement. The caretaker is very thoughtful and felt like japan in the 80s. Overall solid experience. The bus stop is right across the street but the buses are a bit random and it’s a bit of a walk without the bus (20 min). The showers are downstairs by the bar but pretty clean. I didn’t mind it but some people might not be comfy with the idea - has more a hostel vibe there.
Beds could be a bit more comfy.
- Yichen (10/5): Shoutout Nyokki - The lodge manager Nyokki was the absolute best and most of the other staff were amazing too. We got picked up from the Hirafu Welcome Centre by one of the staff because Nyokki was busy that evening, and on the day of checkout, Nyokki offered to drive us to Kutchan station at whichever time suited us. Free breakfasts were great too. For the first few nights of our stay, the other guests definitely helped make the whole trip more memorable 🥰👍
- Claire (7/5): -
- Mikayla (10/5): Amazing lodge style accommodation - Cozy and cute ! Friendly staff and very welcoming. Spent lots of nights by the fire playing with puzzles and stretching from mountain activities. Also a great bar downstairs to have some drinks and biggest banh mi you've ever seen.
- Riley (10/5): - Great host and great location
- Andrew (10/5): Cute stay in the heart of everything with amazing staff - Just a lovely little stay.
The staff were absolutely lovely
Very comfortable
Thank you for breakfast
- Christina (9/5): Great place, the staff was wonderful. The fireplace and common area was very cozy and a nice place to relax after a day - The awesome staff and the delicious daily breakfast were the best part of the stay! The clothes dryer doesn’t really work.
- Thomas (10/5): Awesome spot that exceeded my expectation’s! - Amazing location Nothing
- Thomas (10/5): -
- Elaine (8/5): - Friendly staff, parking provided, comfortable beds and linens. Shower at the basement, noisy with downstairs bar patrons talking loudly at the streets near our window, toilets are not smelling nice.
- Jiri (9/5): Exceptional place for skiing in Niseko with great value for money - The manager, Gnocchi (like the pasta, but unsure of spelling 😱) was exceptional. He was very welcoming, informative and helpful when needed.
Location was great - easy access to ski bus or close enough to walk to ace gondola in the morning and walking distance to lots of Izakaya, food trucks etc.
Accomodation has all you need and is exceptional value for money.
Communal areas are great, crackling fire in afternoons. Breakfast was average, very functional and got the job done. (Breakfast changes daily)
Ski room not fully secure. Obviously low risk in Japan but would be nice for peace of mind.
- June (10/5): - The price is awesome in an expensive area. The lounge with fire pit is nice and comfortable. Nice staff.
- Kate (8/5): Super fun place to stay in Niseko. Would recommend. - Such a great place to stay in Niseko, close to everything and has all you need. We stayed as a family in the loft/family room and it was great. But of noise from the street/bar below but it quietens down after 11pm. Cooked breakfasts were awesome! Fun vibe in shared lounge/dining area. Easy to chat to other guests. The only thing that marred our stay at all was that the shared toilets on the accomodation level smelt bad. I don’t know why. They weren’t dirty and they had plenty of deodorisers in there, but it wasn’t pleasant.
- Nicholas (9/5): Comfortable and enjoyable, would happily stay here again if I return to Niseko - Friendly and welcoming staff, especially Nyokki the manager. Great location, good facilities and lodge has a very homely feel. Can be a bit loud as the bar closes downstairs and other people slamming doors early in morning, but that’s expected and not a major issue
- Jared (10/5): Big thanks to Nyokki and the rest of the staff, we had a fantastic time and look forward to staying again! - Fantastic location, great breakfast, warm rooms and super friendly and helpful staff!
- Jess (8/5): Amazing! Would come again - Loved gnocchi! I know that’s not how you spell it but when he said like the pasta I never got it out of my head Toilets could have smelt better
- Alexa (9/5): - The amenities were simple but exactly what you need. The location was exceptional and the house manager was incredibly helpful and kind.
- Wallace (10/5): great base for amazing skiing adventure for family. - friendly staff, breakfast cooked fresh every morning. rooms are basic but clean, warm and plenty of space.
the place is clozy with a log fire, laundry and showers downstairs, and and can cut through to the half note bar in slippers for happy hour. remember this is a 2 star pension, so really good value for money.
- Debbie (9/5): Great stay - Friendly and helpful staff. Great bar staff in the bar downstairs. Good breakfast. Close to shuttle bus.
- James (10/5): Highly recommend, great facilities! - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Fullnote, rooms are spacious and comfortable, bathroom facilities and common room are great. All the staff that work there, are extremely friendly and great. There is a bus stop right outside to the gondola or it is a short 15min walk - amazing location near restaurants and bars! Thank you for your hospitality Nyokki, it is greatly appreciated - we will see you again!
- Rachael (10/5): Always Niseko! - PFN=Pension Full Note
Location - amazing
Staff - brilliant
Food - perfect for the slopes
Bar - downstairs - perfect for Après and socialising in the evening - didn't hear it from our room upstairs
Beds - warm snuggly clouds
Bedrooms - were a good temperature - not too hot like some other hotels. You also had the option of turning the heaters off and enjoying the briskness of the air. You can crack the window open a bit to freshen up the room but when it's snowing, (and when it snows it doesn't stop) best to keep them closed!
Showers - could have a little more pressure but temperature was perfect for me - hot! (warning - access to the showers was steep but you get used to it).
Property - great break out lounge, super clean, access to Netflix and other platforms, staff always happily available and super helpful.
Surrounds - short Walk to Family run and lower ticket office. superb coffee from up the street at Hidden Stand (Aussie fav), supermarket at top of the street (fridge and microwave available at PFN for guests), shuttle every 15 min opp PFN if needed, 'Mnails' bar behind the food trucks (yes, food trucks - good variety), and the Asahi Ice bar (giant igloo) was about to open when we left - looked like fun).
FYI - We travelled from Tokyo to Kuchan via Hakodate with the Shinkansen (a good 8 hours). It was definitely worth doing once. At Shin Hakodate/Hakone you need to swap to a local line (Hakodate to Oshamanbe) then get the local train (2nd stop) to Kuchan.
Let PFN know when you will arrive and they will happily collect you!
Leaving Niseko we took the train to Sapporo and stayed the night there before flying back down to Osaka for a few days - 2 hour flight was great! Nothing...seriously!
- Mitchell (8/5): -
- Freya (10/5): -
- Michelle (9/5): - Amazing value and beautiful common areas for relaxing. Noki-san was a great host, and breakfast was delicious. Could not get hot water in the men's shower.
- 雅英 (8/5): 楽器も演奏出来るゲストハウス - スタッフさんがとても親切で、朝食が美味しかったです やはり、古さですね
- Julio (10/5): Just amazing place - The owner is so nice, the place is just incredibly beautiful Nothing
- Romana (8/5): - Location and staff Very old, breakfast could be more diverse
- Riccardo (8/5): -
- Richard (10/5): - Sehr nette Leute. Einfach gemütlich und persönlich. Wir wurden sogar am letzten Tag nach Kutchan an den Bahnhof gefahren, dafür noch mal ein dickes Dankeschön …
- Greg (9/5): We felt at home right away, and Nyokki went out of his way to make out stay run smoothly. His breakfasts were outstandin -
- Erin (6/5): Location is perfect to walk to dinners and catch the free shuttle to the slopes. - Manager of the property was so friendly and kind. We would return again simply because of him. There is a gasoline/kerosene smell in the lobby. House slippers are to be exchanged at the front door but only extremely worn slippers are offered. I don’t think those cost very much- would be a nice touch to offer each guest their own pair during their stay.
- Michelle (9/5): I loved my time at Pension Fullnote and did not want to leave. I would definitely stay here again! - Pension Fullnote is an extremely charming place to stay. The host, Nyokki, was amazingly friendly and thoughtful. Tho location is well situated to easily get to the ski lifts as well as lots of restaurants and bars. The breakfast was delicious! The pension is on top of a bar that hosts live music until 11PM. This would not be an ideal place for anyone who is a light sleeper that once to go to bed before 11PM.
- Elliot (9/5): Great place to stay in the heart of the action, surrounded by great bars and restaurants. - Such a friendly place to stay, with great staff and great food. An excellent place to meet people and relax. We weren’t expecting shared toilets and sinks, but it wasn’t an issue for us at all. Music from the bar below can go on past midnight.
- Fasil (9/5): Authentic comfortable mountain stay experience. - Very central in the heart of Niseko. The building had a nice worn in feel and immediately felt like I was at a family lodge.
The breakfast included was great …..adds to the value. Parking was great as well…nice perk. Not much to not like. The bar downstairs the Half Note is fantastic. Now when there is live music and you want to sleep …. Know that you’ll be hearing it pretty clearly on your room.
- Catherine (10/5): -
- Sophie (10/5): Great! - Amazing vibe, service and immaculately clean Showers are in a cold room in the basement. We went to the onsen.
- Victoria (10/5): -
- Satoshi (9/5): -
- Oliviazhu (10/5): - The hotel exceeded my expectations in every way. The staff, especially Nyokki, were exceptionally welcoming and professional throughout my stay. Their warmth and attentiveness made me feel valued as a guest. The service was prompt and efficient, and Nyokki went above and beyond to ensure my comfort. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a memorable and enjoyable stay.
- Kyle (3/5): Be aware- loud music on some nights from - The breakfast in the morning was delicious and the beds were comfortable, but READ BELOW before booking I wish I would have seen this as others had mentioned as well. There is a bar/resturant on the ground floor that they have VERY loud music playing until at least 11:30pm. So if you want a good nights sleep to ski or explore the next morning (or have kids!) I would not recommend this place unfortunately. We moved places the next day as we couldn’t sleep with the base of the music in our ears. Staff is kind, but they won’t do anything about the music. They helped us change locations the next day which was very kind.
- Windy (9/5): -
- Josh (10/5): will be coming back plenty of good times had. - Very comfy, homely feel, well priced In an expensive town and the staff were great always wanting to chat and check up on you. Suits people willing to accept there is a bar underneath that’s open till 11pm. I will be coming back plenty of good times were had. No complaints
- Cameron (10/5): -
- Amy (9/5): Feels like home. - Exceptional stay at Pension Fullnote. Great location, walking distance to the main street and the free shuttle stops right out front. Nyokki, the host, creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere that truly feels like home. Our Japanese style room was spacious with incredibly comfortable beds. Each morning, we enjoyed delicious breakfast, adding an extra touch to an already fantastic experience.
- Mark (8/5): Brilliant staff! Very fumey room heater. - Main lodge staff Nyokki and Seichu (not sure about the spelling) were incredibly helpful, friendly, sweet guys. Cannot say enough about how great these two were.
Lodge was cosy with big rooms and comfy beds.
Pretty good central location in Niseko Hirafu. Unfortunately we found the fumes from the heater in our room unbearable - felt like we were being poisoned. Guys swapped with a column heater which almost kept the room warm.
If you're self catering, the kitchen is very cluttered and confusing. It's also used by staff to prepare meals.
- Noel (6/5): Comfortable but not luxurious, good value for money stay. - The two Japanese staff were always very friendly and helpful but we’re not always available. Breakfasts were simple but tasty and filling. The fire in the evenings was a fantastic feature. Showers were disappointing - could do with a renovation. A Japanese style bath would have been great.
- MA.CHRISTINA (9/5): Must stay in Niseko if you’re lucky enough to get a booking! Amazing value for money! And great staff who run it! - Nyokki san and all the staff were super accommodating and the BEST!
- Chloë (10/5): Wonderful hosts, lovely cosy fireplace in the lounge -
- Wen Hao (8/5): -
- Mark (10/5): Best pension ever - Great location, unreal bar, super friendly staff, great value Nothing. I’d absolutely stay again if I come back.
- Chris (9/5): Would definitely return! - Cozy little spot. Great location. Solo traveled and met some wonderful travelers there. Loved that there is a shuttle to Hirafu right across the street, and the other bus stop is right up the hill.
- Randy (10/5): - Everything was perfect for our stay. We would stay here again without question. The staff was amazing.
- Robin (10/5): -
- 福島 (9/5): 楽しくてお得で、すごーく良かった! - スタッフの方 たまたま宿泊した日がハーフノート(バー)最終日あたりに重なり、パーティーをしていたのでうるさかったこと。
- Daniel (9/5): Unique experience with nice jazz music and a great place to make friends while in Niseko. - Nioki's service was amazing! Very helpful for planning our day. Loved the constant jazz music that played in the common room - the music played all day. The breakfast was simple but delicious! Location was only a few hundred metres from the nearest ski lift. The Halfnote bar downstairs was always pumping and lively, lots of scheduled activities to fill the evenings with. Men's showers could do with another drain installed as there was one drain between three shower cubicles, so occasionally it would start to pool if it clogged. The bar downstairs played music loud until 11pm so if you need an early night it may be difficult to sleep until it's finished downstairs - (or just join in?).
- Hang (8/5): very good location and nice spacious rooms - nice comfortable room but just basic nothing
- Marek (10/5): - I would make the breakfast more diverse
- Greg (9/5): excellent place to be alone or socialize with other skiers and Fullnote managers pre-post phenomenal powder skiing - great customer service and I loved sleeping on floor futons in tatami mat room long uphill walk to lift, or packed shuttle to lift
