Guest Reviews
- Mari (10/5): Go as a guest, leave as a friend - The inherent hospitality of the Albanians shines through in this family.
They helped me get all my contact lenses back from Corfu to here. An unbelievable story! Extremely helpful family.0
The room is as beautiful as the photos. Great views and comfortable beds, with a great bathroom.
The views are incredible.
It's perfectly situated and very quiet.
The breakfast is plentiful and if you don't want to eat so early, Meroli will pack it up to take with you.
- Sara (10/5): Would stay here again in a heartbeat - One of our favorite stays in Albania so far. The room was so comfortable, and the hosts were incredibly hospitable and kind. Absolutely fantastic breakfast on the rooftop in the morning!
If you're driving yourself to the property, we did find it to be challenging due to the size of the roads and the "no entry" road signs. There is parking at the Guesthouse once you make it there.
- Susan (10/5): Beautiful room, delicious breakfast, and perfectly located. - We loved our stay at Guesthouse Hoxha. Our room was beautiful, and the breakfast was delicious and served on the roof top patio with a gorgeous view of the town. The owners were charming and had 2 cats and a kitten we throughly enjoyed. The location was perfect. It was across the street from the Ethnographic Museum and a few doors down from the Skenduli House. The Bazaar was a 5 minute walk away and the Castle not much further. I would definitely recommend it to anyone traveling to beautiful Gjirokaster. Nothing - everything was wonderful. Our hosts didn't speak much english and a couple times we used google translate as an aid.
- Dianne (10/5): A real guesthouse with lots of care and love served - Perfection. We loved our stay from breakfast and dinner on the rooftop . Our wonderful
Host spoilt us so much we wanted to live there. The views of the mountains are incredible. We visited the castle and walked to Ali Pasha bridge. Don’t hesitate to book here. Only 2 rooms you feel like being part of the family . Thankyou ❤️🙏🏽 Nothing

- Maaike van der Eerden (10/5): Best guesthouse in Gjirokaster - Super kind and helpful owners. Room is beautiful and very comfortable. Super clean and well organized guest house. They helped us out with arranging a taxi/ transfer, early check in and luggage storage during our hike. The terrace has amazing views over Gjirokaster. -
- NEIL (10/5): A delightful experience. - Beautiful room, wonderful view over Gjirokastra, delicious breakfast, charming hosts who, it is clear, were rightly proud of their offering.
- Oxana (10/5): Wonderful stay with warm hospitality - This place has only two rooms, and we got one with an amazing view. The owner noticed I was sick and kindly offered me mountain tea, even giving me some leaves as a gift. The room was charming, super clean, and comfortable, just a 5-minute walk from the bazaar. The location is perfect for experiencing the old town, and parking is available. Breakfast was rich and delicious, but most importantly, the hospitality was warm and truly kind. Nothing, everything was just perfect! Thank you!
- Norbert (10/5): -
- Sylvie (10/5): - Superbe chambre
- Juliana (10/5): Magical, welcoming oasis above the city. - I haven’t felt so welcome and at home in a hotel or guesthouse in a long time. I could not have asked for better mornings, sitting among the dancing swallows with a delicious hot breakfast, looking out over the magical view of the city. Photos do not do it justice! Accommodations were large and comfortable. I can’t speak highly enough of Mirella. I really felt like I was a houseguest. Having a private lot was clutch as well (drive up from the Google maps directions from Tirana, not the directions from Saranda- the steep hills and narrow alleys are hard to navigate!). Thank you so much for the lovely stay! Nothing
- Rachel (10/5): 10/10 thank you - Amazing room, and the rooftop breakfast view just wonderful. The host was the loveliest woman.
- Dvorak (10/5): Palorto i love you - Nice and accommodating hosts, beautiful and clean rooms with great views, delicious breakfast on the terrace with great views. Thank you for the nice stay.
- Kristina (10/5): - Super Unterkunft in Gjirokaster.
- Burim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ana (10/5): Amazing - The very friendly hosts, very Nice people!!
The location was amazing!!
The view from the balcony was great!
- Jo-anne (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful room with a magnificent view over Gjirokastor. Very large and comfortable bed, good bathroom and a kitchen shared with one other room. Breakfast on the rooftop looking at the castle was great. The hosts were super friendly and helpful and arranged a last minute taxi from Sarande and also a lift to the bus station. It's a fairly level (for Gjirokastor) walk to the bazaar.
- Pui (10/5): Great Place to Stay! - I absolutely love the room. It is huge and has an amazing view. Breakfast on the roof is great. I also love that the room has characters such as stained glass and wood ceiling but the bathroom is completely modern. Great location too. It is just a short walk and gentle climb to the old town. Nothing. Everything is perfect.
- Alec (10/5): One of the best of our stays in Albania. - The breakfast offered was amongst the best that we had in staying at five different places in Albania. The view especially was a superb accompaniment to breakfast.
Mirella and her husband looked after us very well in a beautiful room. The guest house is very well situated for a couple of days in the old town of Gjirocaster as there is very little climbing needed to get to the attractions and the restaurants. It was not their fault in any way, but we were woken at about 5.30am by a neighbour's dog barking, which did not stop until we had finished our breakfast around 9am.
- Bodo (9/5): Characterful, friendly guesthouse in Gjirokastra - Quite a special place to stay, well located (with a parking space!) in the middle of Gjirokastra upper town.
There are two en-suite rooms with a shared eating/kitchenette space. We booked both rooms for our family, which worked great. But it you only book one of the rooms we guess you could be sharing the shared space with another couple.
The room at the back (overlooking the valley) is spectacular with a great view and lots of antiques, stained glass etc. The other room is comfortable and spacious, but not as atmospheric.
In fine weather breakfast is served up on the roof terrace - really lovely!
The landlady is very friendly and engaged with guests. She doesn't speak much English, but communication is fine (and she used google translate when needed). She was kind enough to prepare a tasty vegan breakfast plate and provide non-dairy milk for our son, which was very kind and thoughtful :)
You can arrange for her to provide a cooked dinner too if required.
The guesthouse is steps from the Folklore Museum and the Skenduli House and a short stroll into the centre of the old town and bazaar. Recommended! Everything was great. Nothing that we didn't like.
- Marianne (10/5): Perfect stay in Gjirokaster 💖 - Perfect hosts, lovely family!
Location , view, breakfast etc etc SUPER Niks
- Giray (9/5): Wonderful - The guesthouse's location is perfect and the view from the room was really nice. Mirella was an excellent host. She prepared a delicious breakfast. Moreover, she and her husband helped us a lot to plan our journey.
- Cristian (10/5): Exceptional - We were greeted as we arrived and w ewere helped to have a parking spot in front of the guesthouse. The room was huge and with a view towards the mountain and lower city. The interior is very nicely decorated. A bit hard to heat the room during colder nights , but there is AC that works fine in the end. The location is perfect, close to city center, but very quiet area. The hosts were very friendly and can cover basic interactions in English. The breakfast had a basic salty part (some vegetables would have been great) plus fabulous tea, orange juice and quince confiture and it is served on a terrace with splendid view. Price was ok .
- Charles (10/5): Exceptional - The guesthouse was in a fantastic location, near the ethnographic museum, and there were great views from the breakfast verandah as well as our room. The hosts were very friendly and helpful, even offering to park our car in a space opposite the hotel. Many restaurants nearby, and a fantastic breakfast included. Google maps is not reliable at some junctions. Arriving from the north it was fine. But at least two other times the route was impassable (except on foot)
- Chloe (10/5): Loved our stay! Amazing view, great breakfast and lovely host!! -
- Andrij (10/5): Amazing experience - - Amazing mountain views for the room
- Comfortable and authentic rooms
- The owners are very friendly and helpful, communication English was good, we needed to know the time when the bus to Saranda departs from bus terminal and they called couple of people and told us the time
- at check-out we needed to get to bus terminal and they organised transfer for us by public bus, some friends of them helped us to board the bus and helped us get out on the right stop, very friendly approach!
- Michael (10/5): Great place and great people. - Our view room was tremendous! Great view of the city and mountains. The room was large, clean, and very comfortable.
Breakfast was really good!
Our hosts were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed getting to know them, they are super people.
The location is an easy level walk to the bazaar area, and close to several museums and the castle.
- Yvonne (10/5): Exceptional - Loved everything about our stay with this hospitable family. When we entered our room, it was a "wow" experience, just as depicted in the photos.
Johanna and her parents have made Guesthouse Hoxha very special. Eating our beautiful breakfast on the terrace was amazing. Getting there with our car was a little tricky but with Johanna's guidance it was not a problem.
- Sean (10/5): Great stay in Gjirokastër - Great location, beautiful breakfast and wonderful hosts.
- Christopher (10/5): A perfect guesthouse experience in Gjirokaster - Very friendly hosts. Epic breakfast served on a terrace with an incredible view. Wonderful location - walkable to all the sites. Parking immediately opposite the front door. Comfortable, spacious bedroom with modern ensuite bathroom. Nothing.
- Aidan (10/5): Amazing hosts and a beautiful room. - The hosts were amazing. Really friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. Amazing views, great location and beautiful room. Breakfast was excellent. Nothing could be improved. Everything was perfect!
- Claire (10/5): Exceptional - Extremely clean and large room
Comfortable beds
Ideal location
Amazing breakfast No faults at all.
- Miguel (10/5): Every member of the family went above and beyond to ensure a pleasent stay - Great breakfast - which included freshly squeezed orange juice - with an even greater view!
- Stephen (9/5): Superb - Beautiful place, short walk to old town. Husband gave us a ride to the castle for 500 lek as it's quite a hike up a steep hill. Good AC and excellent breakfast with a great rooftop view. Good parking. Really nice people. Google maps takes you up some terrible roads and is short of the destination... They should send a prepared Google map that routes you up the better roads.
- Rim (10/5): A piece of haven - The best guest house I have ever been. My room was a piece of haven big and confortable. The breakfast is served on the The roof top with n incredible view. I can't thank enough Mirella, Drini and Kavjol for their help. It's very quiet far from the noise of the center. I didn't want to leave this place.
- Lynne (10/5): A Stay with Family - In the old part of town and easy to walk to most everything. The best part was the guesthouse family. They made me feel like ‘family’ from the very first moment. Nothing was too much for them. I arrived and Joana’s father parked my car. Her mom had a traditional lunch waiting for me, since I had not eaten since early morning. My room was very spacious, bright and very clean. Decorated in traditional way. Outside my room was a shared kitchen, plus a frig with beer, soda, etc for purchase. The upper terrace with a view of the castle could be used at anytime. Breakfast was served viewing the castle. To ease my anxiety on how to find my way back to the highway Joana had a father & mother do a video. Piece of cake! Trying to find it. But with Joana’s audio video help she led me right to the front door. Prior to arrival, Joana sent me a map link, which I brought up when I was further into Gjirokaster and pretty sure the reason the map link took me on a route that was impossible! So bring up the link before you come into the town off the highway.
- Olivia (8/5): Nice stay - Great location. Beautiful and sparking bedroom/bathroom. Good breakfast. Parking onsite. Nice hosts. During our stay, we could not reach the hosts via booking.com and the phone as they were travelling abroad. We had issues finding the location with our car (got lost several times). We finally found our way thanks to locals. Would have been easier to be able to reach the hosts in a way or another.
- Andreas (10/5): Little gem in Gjirokastra - Absolutely wonderful traditional guesthouse run by a lovely couple. They were very welcoming and helpful. They even prepared a vegan breakfast for us and parked our car 🙂. We highly recommend this experience! Everything was perfect
- Marsela (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rimjhim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Claudia (10/5): Highly recommended - Fantastic place with very tasteful decorations! View was amazing and host very friendly. Excellent breakfast! Everything was perfect
- Bora (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jill (9/5): A warm and welcoming stay in a delightful small guesthouse - We were treated like family. The hosts made special arrangements for my husband’s plant based diet and we were able to use the host’s microwave oven to prepare his dinner. For a modest fee the host did our laundry as well. We were warmly greeted, and the room was very comfortable. The roof top terrace was a bonus with a view over the historic town and castle. One morning the electricity was off and the host went to the local bakery to get some delicious breakfast pastry for us in addition to fruit and vegetables and cheese and home made jam. As in many places in Albania, there are barking dogs at night. The host has no control over this so it is not meant as a criticism of the property - just part of the environment.
- Gertruda (6/5): A pleasant stay that ended with a bit of a negative feeling - The location of the guesthouse is a short walk outside the old town. This suited us fine as it was quiet and next to the Zekate House and the Ethnographic Museum. The room was big with a small bathroom. It was clean with a big bed. As the window gives out on a dark little street it was a bit dark in the room. The roof terrace where breakfast was served has spectacular views. The breakfast was very extensive and one of the best ones we had during our stay in Albania. Although the hosts were very friendly to start with, we left on a sour note. The guesthouse has drinks available for sale. When we left, the owner wanted to charge us 1000 lek for the homemade wine which was listed for 100. It might have been a mistake on their part but I didn't appreciate first having to pay for their mistake and then being lied to. The lady told me that the 100 was old lek and that now it means 1000 in new lek. I never heard about a difference between old and new lek. We settled the dispute (after a lot of palaver) with paying slightly more than half of the difference but it did leave us with a negative feeling after what had been a pleasant stay. In addition, the owner did not speak English which made the communication difficult and had to go through a third party.
- Edith (10/5): super great! - very nice! so clean and so central with a great view. thank you for everything and all your help! tip: bring enough cash to pay, I forgot that it won’t be charged automatically with credit card in Albania. all good absolutely great Standard for the country
- Zoran (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dror (10/5): Lovely Village double room in a village house - Lovely decoration
generous family.
They have two rooms. The double room is special and also has great view. The triple room is less attractive.
If you are a family of 5 it can be great to combine both ( there is a shared kitchen)
Don't be confused - it's opposite the ethnographic museum.
- Andrey (10/5): Friendly and quiet home in the centre of the town - Quiet location, no noise at night (so you are not disturbed - which is not a given in the very centre). It's only a 3-minutes walk from the very centre of the town, where all restaurants and the colorful bazaar are located. Great host, very friendly. Huge home-made breakfast at the rooftop terrace with a view; local jam, traditional dumplings, cheese, sausages, bread, milk, eggs and local joghurt "koz". Everything was very clean, the aircon was efficient (we visited in July, it was about +36 Celsius), the bathroom was all new and fresh. Besides all that, I loved the idea of staying in an old traditional home, just to see and feel a local house from the inside.
The only detail I would mention is that there are 2 different rooms, and the view from one of them is phantastic, whereas the other one has actually no view of the city. Just bear that in mind while booking, and anyway you can enjoy the view from the rooftop terrace, so for us that was no problem. Anyway, it was a great stay.
- Morgane (10/5): A perfect stay! - The bedroom was so lovely and spacious, with an incredible view over the mountains. The localisation is great! The breakfast was nice and varied. You can take it in the terasse, which is so peaceful in the early morning. The family was nice, they reserved seats on the street to let us park there. If you come with car, be aware that there is a big climb to arrive to the guesthouse. Gjirbrokastra is on a hill, so it’s kind of “normal”
- Lukrecia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Váňová (10/5): amazing!!! - The best accommodation throughout our trip in Albania. The place is in a traditional house with a stone roof that is typical of the city of Gjirokaster, right in the historic center. The space is truly extraordinary, and it enhanced our magical experience of the city of Gjirokaster. The accommodation has access to a rooftop with breathtaking views of the castle and the old town, allowing guests to enjoy breakfast with an amazing view. The room is beautifully furnished, clean, same as a bathroom and kitchen. The owners are incredibly kind and willing to help with everything, going above and beyond to fulfill our needs. The food was excellent. If I have the opportunity to visit Gjirokaster again, I will definitely return here 100%! There isn't a single negative thing i could say.
- Lila (10/5): Exceptional -
- Klevis (10/5): It was a hospitable and friendly environment and the location of the property was great - The breakfast was an excellent meal to start the day with. The owner cooked a traditional breakfast including tasty and exceptional homemade jams, juices and tea. I cannot think of something that we didn't like during our stay.
- Amarilda (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful city, warm reception, very clean and beautiful house. Wonderful food with a picturesque maple of the city.
- Visar (10/5): Exceptional -
- Klement (10/5): The house was so clean, the hostess was friendly and it was so convenient - Mirela and her family were so friendly. The house was so clean and we felt very comfortable staying there. It was very closed to the Bazar and all the restaurants.
The day that we left Mirela made us a delicious breakfast that we enjoyed in the balcony overlooking at the Mountains and Gjirokaster.
We will stay here again!!!!!!!
