- Guiwen (9/5): So Perfect - Both dinner and breakfast are very good and comfortable. One more bottle of sea salt for bathing is the best, and one more bath towel would be more perfect.

- Nazia (10/5): Always lovely to stay at the Mal. - Very spacious and clean …
- cerise (10/5): Perfect place to stay - Breakfast was perfect beautifully cooked and good ingredients , really enjoyed our stay , staff were friendly and helpful at every contact , hotel was so convenient to the railway station but not compromised by closeness to it . perfect place to stay . Nothing it was all good .
- Margaret (8/5): Last minute booking - Breakfast selection was great. Having fridge and safe in room and decent coffee machine. Black out blinds. Sky tv channels. Rain fall shower, robes and slippers. Lovely bar area. Handy for train station and city centre. Bathroom and shower base but grubby through wear and tear, little details that need redecorating on skirting.
- Graham (10/5): Excellent hotel and price. Really enjoyed our stay there. - Great venue and very modern, clean and tidy. Nothing
- Zenobia (8/5): Really lovely stay. - Really close to the station, great sized rooms. Good facilities. Could hear the noise from clubs from our room - out of hotels control though.
- KENNETH (8/5): - The location was perfect for visiting the town centre, very close to the railway station and bus stops to visit some very interesting places in vicinity. We didn't require breakfast. Taxis were unable to pull up outside of the main front door because of a double red line.
- Vanessa (3/5): Staff were good but property needs some tlc - Very efficient and friendly staff. I reported issues with cleanliness and they dealt with this promptly. Stain on carpet and shower tray and glass needs upgrading.
Some noise from the street but ear plugs helped.
- Daria (8/5): All very good - I liked the location and how friendly the staff were Didn’t appreciate renovation work outside my window at 1am in the morning (one night only so not that much of an issue)
- Pascale N (10/5): - Friendly staff. Comfortable bed. Close to train station and shops. Peaceful and quiet. Lovely size room. My room had a bath. Pillows very soft. When I opened the curtain I was greeted by a concrete wall. Only had waterfall shower head available.

- Neil (10/5): Great hotel, friendly and helpful staff, lovely room - Great room, very comfortable. Able to check in a couple of hours early which helped. Would recommend and would stay again if in Reading another time
- Clive (8/5): -
- Abigail (10/5): Clean, comfortable and really nice - The room lay out Nothing
- Anne (10/5): Lovely hotel next to Reading station - Lovely large double aspect room and bathroom! Bed very comfortable and plenty of refreshments.
Staff were very friendly. Lighting by all mirrors rubbish for applying makeup.
- Pitts (10/5): -
- Kamilla (9/5): - very large and comfortable bathroom
ideal location no access to YouTube and Netflix on TV
- MICHAEL (10/5): Wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else! - Central location. Exceptionally clean. Fantastic food at a great price. Nothing. Would have been easier to have been able to park outside temporarily to drop cases off. The railway short stay car park being closed (which is nearby) wasn’t the hotel’s doing !!! But hey, a small glitch which was out with the hotel’s control!!
- Tomás (8/5): -
- Susan (8/5): - The room and bathroom were very clean. We were fortunate enough to have the room on arrival from Canada due to an early checkout. Staff worked diligently to make this happen. Breakfast very expensive. Went to Mark's and Spencers and had breakfast there.
- Mary (9/5): -
- Deanna (8/5): A pleasant pit stop in Reading - Booked last minute to visit my daughter at UoR & location & proximity to station & city centre was perfect for my stay. Polite & welcoming staff, big bathroom, comfy bed & delicious cooked breakfast. Bedroom itself was very small & dark, a lot of grey paint. Nice enough but not sure I’d class it as 4*

- Pauline (7/5): A pleasant stay. - The location - being near to the station. Well furnished, comfortable, modern room.
The breakfast was excellent. Surprised that there was no beer available at the bar - only lager - and for that we were directed to a competitor across the road.
At just 7.30 pm on a Friday evening, two of our main course food selections were not available.
- Reiss (1/5): -
- bonner (8/5): see you soon - lovely
- Lee (10/5): Was good from start to end and will come again - The breakfast was spot on
- Pierre (9/5): Great location and comfortable hotel - Very convenient location for those travelling by train, the suites are well appointed, well equipped and spacious. A good value breakfast. Two many stairs to reach our suite (Ghan), and only one stand for our two suitcases.
- Darin (4/5): Very disappointing when we were looking forward to staying there - Close to train station Music from nearby bars vibrating through the hotel into the early hours
- Allan (9/5): Very comfortable overnight stay with a luxury bedroom and lovely breakfast choice - great room. one of the suites. very large room with a large bath and separate shower. good TV channel selection. very comfortable bed. Lovely cooked breakfast nothing
- Janet (9/5): -
- Lydia (8/5): Would definitely recommend if you need a good value central location for a stay in Reading - Very central and very reasonably priced. It was a bit noisy (not their fault - it’s near the station etc which is very convenient)
- Colin (8/5): We will definitely stay again - Very friendly helpful staff. Accommodation clean and comfortable The original room we were in had a very noisy air con and we couldn’t sleep. Went to check in and was immediately given another room
- Michelle (8/5): - Large clean room, safe, coffee machine which makes my husband happy, Bed was a bit hard but still ok
- Alex Bagnall (6/5): Take earplugs for air conditioning units - Comfortable beds with really good pillows.Helpful and friendly staff when problems arose. The first room I was given had a buzzing air conditioning unit.. (.no one would have been able to sleep through the noise unless drunk or deaf).Very helpful staff found me another smaller room where the buzzing was further away from the bed so more tolerable but still not ideal.(Couldn't be turned off). The style of hotel means rooms are quite dark and trendy but not light and airy. Great location by station but definitely wouldn't stay again
- Lee (8/5): - Great location next to station. Fab breakfast and friendly staff. Nothing
- Antony (9/5): Perfect hotel for a stay in Reading! - Great location. Nice room decor. Nothing!
- Anne (9/5): Meeting up with daughter and Bf. had a lovely Steak night dinner for the 4 of us. Staff excellent - All the staff were lovely and friendly Initially the little stairs were a shock but we got used to them.
- Stacey (10/5): Lovely stay - Comfortable beds, clean, friendly staff Nothing
- Melody (9/5): -
- Jess (10/5): -
- paul (8/5): -
- ESTHER (10/5): -
- Christina (10/5): -
- Simona (10/5): Clean and comfortable room, good breakfast -
- Julien (10/5): - Perfect location, delicious breakfast and great staff
- David (10/5): -
- Paula (10/5): - Everything, except... Pillows, they did provide me with alt option
- Alexandra (5/5): Not as luxurious as I had expected (given rate) - Perfect location so near to station Given the rate we paid I was expecting something more luxurious
- Shepherd (4/5): Pleasant but shabby - I liked the beds. Very comfortable and size of the room, decent amount of space. The fact there is no option just to buy a particular item off the breakfast menu. You are forced to pay £20+, even if all you want is egg on toast. I thought the price was rather steep and didn't have any breakfast in the end because of it.
The place is in need of refurbishment, so that it matches the higher standards of decor at other Malmaison hotels. I have stayed in many and chose the Malmaison in Reading, as I thought it would have the same standard of decor that I have become accustomed to in your other hotels, namely, Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds. The outside of the building was pretty dirty and the curtains inside the main bar were also looking shabby, along with the funiture.
- Wrigley (9/5): Comfortable base for our travels. - Very well provided for central location. Very comfortable! Nothing.
- Sougata Mukherjee (9/5): Comfortable stay with great location - I really liked the room—it was cozy and clean. The location was perfect, close to everything I needed While the breakfast selection was somewhat limited specially for Vegeterian, the quality and taste of the food were commendable
- Lake (10/5): Amazing hotel - atmosphere, comfortable, clean, cosy, luxurious N/a
- Graham (8/5): -
- David (10/5): Lovely stay in a polite and nice quality hotel. - Well presented and great location.
- julie (3/5): Have stated many Hotel du Vin and Malmaison's - not the standard I expected. - sheets were stained and chemically smell in the room
- Scott (7/5): Nice location, good rooms, customer service lacking - Great location, spacious and comfortable rooms Only one receptionist at a time, meaning long queues at reception.
Staff in restaurant were quite unfriendly.
- Christopher (9/5): -
- Erin (8/5): - Car park that’s recommended is very expensive
Mould in bathroom ceiling
- Longbottom (10/5): - Everything . Nothing .
- Thompson (7/5): Comfortable, acceptable. - We didn't have breakfast. The location is ideal for the railway station & Central Reading and reginal buses. The property, from the outside appeared tired. This appearance continued inside. The public areas were clean but in need of refurbishment. The room was clean and tidy but the theme continued, tired!
- Beverley (8/5): An very nice hotel, very convenient and staff are very pleasant - Location was right near the station. Bar and Restaurant had the same menu but you could choose the atmosphere. Minor hiccup with the lift but was immediately sorted. Room was large for two people comfortably and pretty modern bathroom but with large shower over the bath and there is a heated towel rail. Usual appliances TV, kettle and hairdryer. Wardrobe, desk, suitcase folding frame and computer chair. The room has heated air control so you can adjust the temperature and fan speed. There is plenty to see in the near vicinity including the Abbey ruins and the excellent Museum exhibitions a the Town Hall around the corner. Because it is an older building, once I left the lift, to reach my room, I seemed to be gong round and round corners then down stairs and then upstairs again.
The bathroom in my room was down a flight of 6 stairs! It may look imposing but having to constantly go up and down those flipping stairs was a bit of a nightmare, especially when you're half asleep and nipping to the loo in the middle of the night.
I have two hip replacements, so having to climb into a high sided bath to get a shower was also a nightmare for me with only the heated towel rail to hold on to, to get in and out. When being allocated a room, maybe staff could take this sort of problem into consideration when doing so?
The lighting in the bathroom is impossible for women to apply makeup due to the angle of the light and the same goes for the mirror above the desk. I resorted to pulling back the net curtaining at the small window and using my small mirror to apply makeup. there is no shortage of quality lighting, but just the wrong ones for the job.
My last and final gripe is the shed-load of Sky sports channels for male visitors, but NO NETFLIX for those of us (some of whom are women) that can't abide Sport.
Overall the hotel is excellent and would recommend staying there, however my list of criticisms are purely on a personal level due to my age and state of decrepitude.
- Pauline (9/5): -
- Megan (10/5): Dreamy comfort in reading - Beautiful hotel! The rooms are GORGEOUS!! And the staff is absolutely wonderful and kind, they really make you feel welcome! The rooms itself was like a dream, and the comfort of it was to die for! There wasn’t anything I didn’t like, It was perfect !

- Guest (8/5): -
- Dominic (5/5): -
- Marcus (8/5): -
- Phil Pedley (8/5): -
- Peter (10/5): See above - Hard to fault it - perfect position to stopover between Heathrow and catching a train to Devon after a 30+hour flight from Australia Nothing
- Robert Kearney (9/5): Excellent value - Good hotel for the price There's no close parking
- Guest (10/5): -
- Serica (6/5): Overall, the room was comfortable and in good condition, but the inaccurate parking information and the way it was handl - The suite I booked Parking information provided prior to arrival was inaccurate. The confirmation email stated Q Car Park was a 5-minute walk, but it was actually 11 minutes, which was frustrating as we had to drag our suitcases in the cold expecting a much shorter distance.
We also later found several nearer car parks offering £15 for 24 hours, while we paid more for Q Car Park (£24 for 24 hours) based on the hotel’s recommendation, only to be told they no longer have any association with it.
When raised at reception, the issue was simply attributed to Booking.com rather than being acknowledged or resolved, and no alternatives were offered.
Additionally, the signage within the hotel was unclear, making our suite difficult to locate.
