Guest Reviews
- Randall (10/5): A delightful cottage in a perfect position for a few days stay. - Wonderful cottage with great facilities. The breakfast provided was great, and provisions lasted the few days we stayed. As a bonus, the adjacent gin distillery was a gem to find, and I arranged to have 3 bottles posted home! We will stay again when next in Huonville. Thankyou both. Nothing really.
- Teresa (10/5): The homemade muesli, preserves and jams for breakfast made our little cottage feel like home. - We stayed in the little cottage and it was just what mum and I needed for a little getaway

Quiet & relaxing comfort! - My sisters & I had a family wedding on in the area ,so we enjoyed a wonderful relaxing stay at this beautiful historic home. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed & looked after by our lovely host’s Carolyn & Graham. It was like stepping back in time. Nothing was too much trouble & they were both so friendly & helpful. We absolutely loved our suites. So spacious, clean & elegantly decorated! - Sts86 (10/5): Heaven on earth - Lovely hotel, super quite, very nice hosts. We spent two nights here and wish we could have stayed more. Cute room with everything you need, a comfortable bed and the nicest view possible into the garden. Super good place if you are traveling by car, amazing restaurant called "The Kiln" nearby which gives guests a discount and an extra nice treatment. We would come back to the region just to stay in this place again.
- Nadine (8/5): Historic house with charm and good location - Great property and location, good communication by venue. Comfy bed. Not that I didn’t like, but only cold breakfast options, very tasty but in winter it would have been nice to have a cooked breakfast.
- Leonie (10/5): Beautiful historical place lovingly maintained - Beautiful setting, quiet, lively staff and beautiful historical house. Everything you need and lots of space. Signage for where to park.
- Diane (10/5): My stay was the most wonderful ease filled break you could hope for - From the moment I arrived my hosts were as warm, welcoming and gracious as the house that greeted me - the stained glass windows of the entrance hall enveloping me in their history as I stepped inside leaving the cold Tasmanian winter's eve behind - My room was a delight with the double dormer windows delivering the picture perfect country view - dotted with grazing sheep and complete with apple trees and quaint out buildings during the day and a view of the brilliant stars of the southern skies at night - A travellers delight - The bed was super comfortable - and snug - the facilities and other accoutrements were of a quality that enhanced my getaway experience - I found my hosts informed, friendly and helpful, individual and enterprising - nothing was too much trouble - from having my breakfast delivered to my room at a very odd hour to sorting all my technological inadequacies -
Centrally located in the Huon Valley I found Clifton Estate the perfect base from which to explore the Valley and areas beyond - or to while away a day or two in comfortable and elegant surroundings, as I found myself doing - The attached eatery the Kiln ( operated by the the next generation of family members ) is an added bonus - here you can sit in the only remaining old Hop Kiln in Tasmania and have an eating experience that can transport you around the world in a bite - a veritable gourmet delight for the taste buds - and perhaps to accompany your food, you can, as I did, indulge in a taste of one of the unique gins created from botanicals grown for generations on the property itself - or ( I had both ) indulge in a warm Hobart Whisky infused Hot Chocolate
Hoping I find the time to return - a peaceful and idyllic spot My stay was too short
- Helen (10/5): Our stay was simply not long enough. - Carolyn made us feel very welcome during our stay, the accommodation was exceptionally clean and comfortable set within beautiful gardens. She was also very informative about what to see and do in the Huon Valley. The Kiln Eatery, on site, made us a very tasty breakfast, (using thick old fashioned bacon) and serves great coffee. I would thoroughly recommend this place to stay, rest, eat and explore the picturesque Huon Valley. Nothing to mention.
- Philip (9/5): Superb - Had a great breakfast at the Kiln. Location very central The heating in the room could have perhaps been a little warmer
- Mr.r.k. (10/5): Comfortable and informative. - One feels part of history with the restored oast house and homestead.
Custodians and staff knowledgeable and extremely helpful.
We will be back! Nothing comes to mind.
- Reay (10/5): Exceptional -
- Graham (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful room and welcoming atmosphere.
Thank you
Our hosts provided a warm atmosphere and a very interesting and entertaining homestead and hop kiln history.
Recommend the kiln eatery as a place of local history and a great place to dine or enjoy a coffee
- Rebecca (9/5): Quaint countryside getaway just outside Hobart - It’s hard to escape history in Tasmania, and Clifton Homestead was no exception. I really appreciated the short story explaining the history of the place as one of Tasmania’s first and most important apple and hops farms. The home is very cosy and warm, just like Caroline was warm and friendly too! Overall a great experience. We didn’t stay long enough to appreciate it! Also, it is extremely quiet in Ranelagh, which meant any small creak of the floorboards or sound from the dogs echoed - just a warning to noise sensitive people, bring earplugs to make the most of it.
- Meredith (10/5): Exceptional and looking forward to our return - Beautifully decorated
Very welcoming and encouraged to use all areas of the homestead
Carolyn and Graham were friendly and informative of the property and surrounding points of interest to visit Nothing
- Etchells (9/5): Superb -
- Ethan (10/5): Exceptional - Charming historical house in very good condition. The hosts were wonderfully accommodating, provided a great breakfast, and a fascinating historical tour of the adjacent hop kiln. Highly recommended.
- Mor (9/5): A brilliant base for visting all the charms of the Huon valley. - The beds were extra comfy with linen sheets, it was very easy to have a restful sleep in total quiet. The breakfast supplies were sumptuous, the visiting chickens were there for your morning cuppa. The rufus wallaby with her joey was right at the door. Dinner could be had at the historic Kiln restaurant and a morning expresso was just a short walk to the bakery. Carolyn was a brilliant host, lots of information about what to visit without any intrusion. Exceeded our expectations.
- Jaime (10/5): Highly recommended place to stay. Wished we could stay longer! - The owner was very attentive and understanding. The room that was allocated was superb. Cozy bed, very clean room and truly relaxing place. None.

- Linda (9/5): Hosts were really lovely even changing our room as I was unable to get up steps due to an injury - Breakfast and hosts lovely. Graham gave a great history and tour of the oast house, beautiful gardens , Nothi
- Catherine (10/5): Exceptional - My family’s stay at Clifton Homestead was absolutely divine. Graham and Caroline were so welcoming, offering delicious homemade Anzac biscuits to go with our Tasmanian tea, a beautiful continental breakfast, along with locals advice for our day’s travel plans and a personal tour around the oast house that accompanies the estate. It truly felt like a home away from home. Our family would recommend this experience to anyone visiting Huon Valley in a heartbeat.
