- Yiğit (10/5): Great place to stay if you want peace and quiet. - Very comfortable. Great wifi. Friendly staff. Helpful in extending stay. Nothing really.
- Jonathan (8/5): - It was nice to be next to the countryside, relaxing place. Good value. They didn’t communicate with me well before I arrived… such as answering questions about how to get there from Vientiane in the evening, causing me to not be able to make it there for the first night. Thankfully, they forgave my costs on the night I missed. Once I arrived, they were nice and helpful.

- Nelissen (10/5): - I loved to stay at Maylyn guesthouse and will defenitly stay there again if visiting Vang Vieng. It's a little bit out town but still on walking distance to the town. You're in a quite and green environment. The domain is beautiful, with luscious nature and beautiful mountain view. The rooms are sober and decent and have all you need. There are some sweet cats on the domain to protect you :) The ladies working there are very kind and will help you out. /

- Keegan (9/5): - Really cool spot. Had an old school bungalow, faced out into a field. Came with the downsides of a bungalow (dark when the windows are closed, not well insulated) but honestly getting harder to find places like this in SE Asia and was a great throwback.
Loved being slightly outside of VV center. It was quiet and once I rented a bicycle for the day, the distance was nothing.
- Louise (10/5): -
- Aayush (10/5): - Amazing place. Calm and beautiful.

Ein absolutes No-Go!
- Didier (10/5): Super ! - Super !

- Hugh (9/5): Characterful and comfortable - Characterful, nice views. Steep steps up to the cabin. Noisy blooming microlights flying overhead in the early morning (though they can't do much about that, and the noise must affect a large area).
- Pearsall (9/5): -
- Riccardo (10/5): -

- Gail (8/5): Nice room with beautiful garden setting - Great location on the quiet side of the river. Garden was with lots of huge butterflies. We ended up staying in a room rather than a bungalow since we were a family of four it allowed us to hang out the balcony outside our two rooms. Very quiet. Bed was comfortable. The location was good next to some good restaurants. Unfortunately, the closest footbridge over the river was closed so the walk into town was a bit longer. You can hear other rooms as the walls are thin. We could hear coughing from the room next-door.
- Sandra (8/5): Budget friendly, peaceful and tranquil setting not far from busy Vang Vieng. - Maylyn Guesthouse is away from the buzz and hubbub of the main part of Vang Vieng. It is set in gardens with a stream at the back and backdrop of mountains. This was the main draw for choosing it.
I had originally only found a bungalow on the booking site which on arrival I didn’t like so I checked with the manager and she gave me an alternative which was a room set in a block which I much preferred. Being June, this is low season so there were hardly any other guests within the complex.
Previous reviews said Maylyn do some light food but this was not an option I was offered nor requested. Maybe due to it being June therefore low season. There is a small shop and some restaurants within a minute of the guesthouse to get essentials and get breakfast but I did not try these.
My interactions with the hosts was limited due to a language barrier and also me doing my own thing. However I am sure if I needed them to arrange anything e.g. excursions and hire of buggy/ scooter/bike they would have obliged. There is a buggy and scooter hire place across the road.
Within 10 minutes walking over two frankly perilous bridges you can be in the centre of Vang Vieng.
Overall, I would recommend this accommodation to anyone looking for a tranquil setting away from the busyness of Vang Vieng and working within a certain budget. Rooms in the bungalow have paper thin walls between them so could hear all the noise from the other room - footsteps, using bathroom etc.
Due to its setting within nature and close proximity to water, bugs are inevitable. Mosquitoes and big spiders found their way into the room and bathroom. Bug spray was not provided in the room but I had bought my own.
Whilst standalone and so offering more privacy for those who want it, Bungalow 14 in my opinion was not very spacious or light and the bathroom setting with open brick at the top was open to bugs getting in. A mosquito net was provided in the room.
The occasional noise of the tractor from the fields behind the accommodation being tilled ready for rice planting season.
If you change your original accommodation, make sure you check the price for that with the hosts. I was still charged for a bungalow even though I had changed to a room.
- Anonymous (7/5): Good -
- Yuezhen (5/5): Passable - No breakfast, but the view is so pretty. The attitude of the staff(or owner?) is unwelcome
- Daniel (8/5): Very good - Lovely resort; super friendly helpful staff, not least of all was Bom, who is a delight! Near a creak so mozzie central.
- Laura (8/5): I loved the peaceful terrace overlooking the mountains. Very quiet and walkable distance to the city center - The gardens en Mountain View The beds are a little stiff and bathroom could use some renovation
- Vasco (9/5): Very good value for money! - The room was very nice, but I think I would take the bungalows next time as they seemed nicer and were cheaper
- Micheal (9/5): Superb - Beautiful place in a quiet environment!
- Steph (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (9/5): Superb - Peaceful natural setting.. beautiful grounds and gardens WiFi for bungalows was not strong enough signal. A WiFi signal booster would help.
- Lina (10/5): Perfect serene and quiet stay. - Great guest house. I stayed in a bungalow 4 nights in the middle of green and calm. Loved it here.
There is no AC, just a fan, but at night, it is not too hot.
Basic bathroom, which is simple and sufficient.
The owners are the nicest people!
You can arrange for transportation e.g. to the train station directly here. The walk in the louder and more busy town center is 10 min over the river. There are two good restaurants very close by for breakfast and you can rent scooters and buggys across the street to go to the lagoon or the motorcycle viewpoint. No soap in the bathroom like in a lot of places in Laos. At night, the music from town was loud sometimes, but nothing the owners can do anything against and it is still a tourist town. Construction is growing and it will likely be busier the next years.
- Ben (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joelle (7/5): Pleasant stay in a nice garden - The location, the bungalow well made, with taste, very clean and well kept, the pleasant garden, everything neat and tidy, the nice family of the guesthouse. The music all night - there was probably a wedding- and the paramotors in the morning for the sunrise. It is probably not a problem in a room but in our light bungalow, it was.Not protective enough against the noise.
- Denisse (9/5): Superb - the location is really good because you are not exactly downtown but super close to it, so is not crowded; all the staff where super nice; the cabins are surrounded by nature, that was my favorite part; restaurants and cafes just outside the property
- Dominique (10/5): Exceptionnal place!!! - 2 mn walking from the noisy center, an Eden garden peaceful. Nice rooms with balcons, fantastic view on the mountains. Quiet, great! Bed, clim, hot water, clean ok. No fridge in the room, but is it really so important?
- Scott (10/5): A quiet and lovely location - The garden was gorgeous. The people were very nice.
- Justine (9/5): Peaceful stay, great place to relax - Situated in the quieter area of Vang Vieng - a 10 minute walk from the centre but well worth it for the peace and serenity you experience being a bit further away - also not an issue at all if you rent a scooter. Comfy, cosy bungalows with a fan and mosquito net as well as a place to hang your clothes on hangers. The bathroom is semi-open air but definitely the best shower we experienced in our 5 weeks in SE Asia - warm water and good shower pressure (it almost hurt, in a good way!) . If you wake up early enough you can also see the hot air balloons flying at sunrise 😊 Wasn’t aware about the semi open air bathroom situation but it didn’t really make a difference- the shower makes up for it ! The sink leaks a bit every time you use it however the water just drains into the same place as the shower.
- Sho (8/5): Good value - Room and bed are comfortable. View and balcony were really nice. View of mountains exceeded our expectations. They have water refill station. Pretty quiet at night. Overall, good value for money. The hotel is off a road that is very dusty and high traffic. It is a location most taxis/vans don’t want to go because the bridge is bad, so you may need to walk a few minutes across the bridge for your van pickups. Only a few restaurants nearby.
- Cornelia (7/5): Not bad. Better than other places there - Gorgeous place near nature away from the noise. Comfortable bed. Big room. Water dispenser to save plastic bottles. Friendly staff. Fresh smelling towels. Big toilet paper dispenser. Ok WiFi near reception No light to get to the room at night. Walls very thin and you can hear everything. Zero communication over booking.com. Missed vital information because of that. WiFi hardly existing in the far away rooms. Looks like a construction site in the front. Walked past first time.
- Danielle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Clarisse (10/5): Spent an amazing night and only had great interactions in the morning. Highly recommend !!! - It was calm and peaceful, with an atypical setting which only reinforced the charm of the house. There were also adorable pets
- Greg (8/5): Very good - Comfortable, wooden cabin overlooking a small river and fields. Great location. Very quiet. Had our own balcony with chairs and table.
Bed was pretty Comfortable and came with decent mosquito net.
Cold and hot water was available for free, with coffee and tea available in the morning.
Nice relaxed, quiet place. Would stay again. The pipe under the sink leaked slightly(fresh water), leaving the floor constantly wet where you step into the bathroom. Tbf we didn't actually mention this to them. Tea and coffee all day would be good.
Nothing really to complain about.
- Kirsten (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect. Beautiful spot
Easy to rent scooters om the other side of the street and go explore. And easy walk to the mainstreet
- Alexandrea (9/5): Superb - Owner is extremely friendly and there is a cheap laundry service you can do with them! Loved my stay here in the quiet are of the town.
- Beth (10/5): Don’t look any further than Maylyn!! - Hands down the best place in Vang Vieng and the best place we’ve stayed in Asia. We absolutely loved our stay, and wouldn’t look to stay anywhere else in vang Vieng. Nice and peaceful away from the town, overlooking beautiful mountains and hot air balloons every evening. We will be back in the future ❤️ More soundproofing is needed between rooms - but no major problem you can just hear doors closing/footsteps from your neighbours :)
- Péter (9/5): Best place in Vang Vieng! - Just perfect! Amazing hideaway guesthouse, 10 minutes walk from the noisy center. The accomodation is much better, than I expected, and the owner, and the whole staff is the friendliest, that I ever experienced. Great breakfast for reasonable price, and the value for money is very good at all. My bungalow had a nice terrace and view, I recommend to choose a bungalow instead of room! Some water leaking in the bathroom, but nothing else.
- Michael (10/5): Full English in the cafe opposite.Beware the village Rooster. He nicked my bacon - The lady who ran the guesthouse was lovely.
Would definitely recommend .Honest trustworthy and friendly Nothing springs to mind
- Tun (9/5): Superb -
- Alessandra (10/5): Exceptional - Maylyn and her family are really welcoming. The house is really beautiful so are the room, hidden from the noisy city center and in the heart of a beautiful garden
- Nicholas (8/5): Very good -
- Mel (10/5): Exceptional - Staff is really nice! Loved the location because just opposite this Guesthouse I could rent a scooter and take off that road to start my day exploring Caves, and lookouts..
- Helmut (9/5): A relaxing place in a wonderful setting. - Room T-4:
The location of the Guesthouse is great. It's a 10 minute walk, away from the ugly town.
The layout is very beautiful with plants and trees all over the place.
It is a soothing place to calm down and relax.
The room has something cozy about it. The size is comfortable , so is the shower.
The view from the common terrace , in front of the room is beautiful with the forest and the mountains.
Somehow all the other guests picked up the vibes as everyone was quiet and gentle. The blanket was too thin for the cold nights.
The terrace is common, not separated balconies so you hear and see everything from your neighbours.
Unfortunately also the smoke of cigarettes travels around the space.
- Helmut (9/5): This place is a gift from heaven if you like peace. - Room T-4:
Great place in a beautiful surrounding. Peaceful, chilled, cozy. The thin blanket was not enough for the cold nights.
- Miriam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jacinta (8/5): Very good - Lovely family, location and beautiful property
- Justin (8/5): Very good -
- Saff (9/5): Very chill and scenic! - Beautiful place to stay, surrounded by greenery and a stunning view of the mountains from the shared porch of our room! Great places to eat only 5 mins walk from the guesthouse. The rickety bridge to walk into town can be a bit daunting especially at night as there’s barely any lighting. An experience all the same. Would highly recommend booking tuk tuk to train station from the lads across the road, who rent the buggies.
- Paul (9/5): Superb - Great mountain views and most comfortable bed we've had after 6 hotels in Laos!
Go before it's surrounded by high rise concrete boxes to accommodate the tsunami of tourists arriving on the High speed rail link!
No breakfast but great little cafe across the road. Kettle would be nice....
- Shawn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brad (9/5): Superb - The rooms were spacious. The views off the terrace are spectacular. Located on the way to all the attractions None
- Swani (8/5): Very good - Very calm nice place, lots of nature around, nevertheless walking distance to the center.
- Caroline (9/5): Loved it! Tranquil location, comfortable room, short walk in to the main town, helpful hosts… - Peaceful location just outside of the main town (10 min walk across rickety bridge) with amazing views of the mountains (from our room - might not apply to all rooms).
Room was lovely and cool. The shared balcony / verandah outside the room was a great to sit and enjoy the views. Can’t think of anything we didn’t like but no fridge or safe (although opportunity to ask host to keep valuables safe for you).
- Marta (8/5): I can really recommend as it is very peaceful place with great personel! - Green area next to the bungalows. Quiet, calm and green place 😍 Frog and cockroach in the building (toilet is open so its normal in such kind of place).
- Travel (3/5): Too noisy and far, I don't recommend it. - Only the mattress Far from the center, on a bumpy and muddy road where there is a lot of traffic of minibuses, buggies and bikes. I booked a room with mountain view but it had the view on a wall and on the road. Very very noisy. No forniture to put the stuff, no bin, dirty basin. Absolutely over priced.
- Alain (10/5): Garden paradise - Beautiful bungalows and rooms set in a maze of gorgeous gardens. Serene and one of the best places I've stayed in Laos. A dreamy place. That I couldn't stay longer. I added an extra day as soon as I arrived!
- Lisa (8/5): Quiet little gem for a peaceful stay - This was a comfortable property with a lovely garden and decor. The bed was comfy and on the quiet side of the river. A great little breaky spot over the road. Probably just the shower pressure and the lack of shelving in the bathroom. But I expected this with the very cheap price
- Qiuyue (10/5): everything is so good - so beautiful
- Victoria (9/5): Superb - A great location if you want to be a little away from noise of the main town. Much more peaceful here and a nice walk over the bridges to get to the town. Great location for access to the viewpoint hikes via scooter - and rental place opposite accom. Simple accom but good for the price. And staff very helpful.
- Natalia (8/5): Very good - The rooms look better in real life than in the picture.
You can easily go to the blue lagoon and many viewpoints.
The nature around the guesthouse was good. You can see many plants, stars, near the river. It was a little bit old.
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nury (9/5): Garden oasis in Vang Vieng - Fantastic oasis in Vang Vieng, very quiet and surrounded by beautiful gardens. You’re a few minutes away from town but feel a village vibe.
Super clean bedrooms and friendly owners.
We hired bikes from JTP tours and the owners allowed us to leave them in a shed secured overnight.
We recommend the cafe’s around- Lotus, Kiwi, Lucas. Nothing.
- Gabriël (7/5): I do not regret my stay! It was a great getaway from the busy vibes of downtown and a beautiful area to feel connected w - It was a quiet environment with lots of nature all round. The views from my balcony were over a rice field with the mountains in the background, which made for the perfect scenery. It was quite secluded from the city center. I had to walk a standard 15-20 minutes in the heat to get to a specific destination downtown. The bathroom I had was also not in the best condition, like not the newest appliances, simple tiling, and insects.
- Raphaël (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice owners, clean room, beautiful location !
- Hendrik (10/5): Exceptional - Maylyn and Jo are amazing hosts. The bungalows offer great mountain views and are located in a lush and lovingly maintained garden.
- Van (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were very helpful. There are many places nearby to rent bikes. Quiet area, you could hear the nature in the morning which was lovely. Loved staying here
- Sarah (9/5): Superb - Stunning property close to town but surrounded by nature. The rooms are amazing, individual rooms on stilts with private Veranders and bathrooms. No air con but I was staying in dry season and found sleeping with the fan on, windows open and mossie net down was very comfortable, especially on the huge bed.
There is some traffic noise early morning so if that bothers you bring ear plugs 🙂
Absolutely loved my stay here. Highly recommend
- Elina (10/5): All in all, we really liked the place - The view and garden are really nice, and the bungalow looks pretty nice, you feel the unity with nature when taking shower with a frog on the wall, hahah. The place is really quiet and not crowded, we didn't hear all hustle and bustle going on outside. In addition, there's protection from insects in the room, you can cover your bed with it The bridge to the city is pretty much dead, so usually we used the one further
