Guest Reviews
- Lorraine (9/5): We’re already talking about when we’ll return. It was hard to leave! - We stayed here for a week as a family and it genuinely exceeded all expectations. The house itself feels like something out of another era—in the best way. Grand, peaceful, and full of character, with high ceilings, vintage furniture, and beautiful old touches that made us feel like we’d stepped back in time. It helped us feel more connected to our roots in Galway, which was really special.
The stained glass window and staircase were just one of many stunning features, and the whole place had a slow, cosy pace that we absolutely loved. Evenings by the lake (just a short walk from the house) were unreal, especially at sunset. We spent time playing chess, listening to Irish radio, and gathering around the big kitchen table over tea and soda bread. Even on rainy days, the house felt bright, warm, and photogenic.
It’s not too far from everything we wanted to explore, but also just remote enough to feel like a proper escape. The hosts were lovely and helpful, and while the appliances and decor are old-fashioned, they’re exactly what gives the house its charm. And despite the size of the place, it warmed up quickly.
We’re already talking about when we’ll return. It was hard to leave! We had a young child with us and we found there was a lot of stairs which he needed supervision on - not necessarily a negative but just something to be aware of.
- Hull (9/5): Superb - The house is a perfect example of an Irish rural manor house. As a student of Irish history, it was a treat to stay here. It was very quiet and had enough room for everyone to spread out. This is a very old house in rural Mayo so adjust your expectations accordingly. If you are looking to get away from it all, this is the spot. QA
- Juan (10/5): Excellent experience in this great house. - Ballycurrin House is an incredible place to stay, close to the lake, with big bedrooms and vintage living room and dinner room. We were quite welcomed. We hope to come back as soon as possible.
