Guest Reviews
- Awa (8/5): - Très bon accueil !
Belle vue. La route pour arriver était très compliquée.
- Martin (10/5): Great place! - Victor is super helpful and very nice. The surroundings are very beautiful, view of Kilimanjaro, among Masai villages. Lots of cattle. On the way here we saw giraffes, gazelles and zebras. Close to another place that has a restorant.
The road here is not the easiest, maybe there are other ways.
- Camille (10/5): -
- Johny von Milde (10/5): Nice stay in Amboseli - Everything was perfect. Nice, cozy and clean rooms, hot water. Very calm place. Nothing, everything was perfect.
- DenisZl (10/5): - Fantastic location
- Roberto (8/5): -
- Sylvia (10/5): Amazing view to Mount Kilimanjaro - victors breakfast panels were lovely. He also organised a tour to the Masai. You can easily walk there. The view to Mount Kilimanjaro is fantastic and the Amboseli National Parkbis a 10 minutes drive away. It was very clean and the internet was great too. I really enjoy being there and I even stayed a day longer. I came with a small car, which wasn’t perfect to get there. There is also no Supermarkt or restaurant around.
- Ranjit Kumar Dey (10/5): Nice - Very very good, spacially I can't forget victor the caretaker, who takes care of us,all necessary items in the room, I think no need to carry anything Nothing
- Christian (7/5): - La tranquillité et la proximité du parc.
Électricité et eau chaudes disponibles. Logement difficile à trouver car non indiqué.
Il n’y avait pas de réfrigérateur et le congélateur ne fonctionnait pas.
- Marie-Aude (7/5): -
- Yvonne (7/5): Large house, near Amboseli - Very large accommodation, could even sleep 6. Views must be spectacular, but unfortunately it was cloudy, so we didn't see Kilimanjaro. Near the entrance of Amboseli national park. Friendly caretaker, who spoke limited English. Cute birds visiting in the morning. Surrounded by Maasai villages. The cleaning was pretty well done, but still we had cockroaches and flies. The price is high for what it is, even to Kenyan standards.
- Coralie (9/5): - Le lieu, le calme, la proximité avec le parc, proposition par l'hôte d'activités, leur gentillesse et leur réactivité.
- Leander (10/5): Exceptional - Nice and charmful 3-bedroom accomodation in a very quit place near Amboseli Nationalpark Iremito Gate. Kitchen and dining area are very well equipped. Great to relax after a game drive.
Mt. Kilimanjaro is visible during sunrise/morning hours. It can be hard to find and a 4x4 is highly recommended to travel comfortable on the dirt roads. Follow the signs to Little Amanya Camp to get to the Red House.
- Denise (9/5): Beautiful house with great view - The location, the landscape and the house are warm, comfortable. The view is great. The house is big and spacious. The porch is really pretty. The house is well furnished. There js no wifi as indicated.
- Agatha (10/5): It's value for money and I'm now a fan. I won't be embarrassed to recommend this place to others. - It was a self-catering place and had everything we needed to prepare the cooked food we had already carried for our trip. When we arrived, the caretaker was already on hand to welcome us. He respected our privacy, so as soon as he saw that we were settling in, he made himself scarce. Sure, the water pressure was low and the freezer wasn't cold, but that's because of the general location itself, so it's not a deal breaker at all. My sister and I were respectful of conserving electricity and water. Any guest who comes should be aware of this and manage their expectations. The important thing is that we had a restful and comfortable stay in the Red House. We had a fantastic view of Mount Kilimanjaro. The breeze was refreshing. The owner was very responsive to my queries. I had a bit of a challenge driving on the corrugated dirt road. Took me longer than expected, again nothing to do with the accommodations itself, but any visitor should be aware that they really need a 4x4 to get to the location. I will be a repeat visitor, for sure. Can't wait to return with friends in the near future. There is nothing to complain about the Red House. It did exceed my expectations. I've been to Amboseli a few times and have availed of a variety of lodgings--from Serena to the KWS public campsite. The Red House is now my favourite go-to for Amboseli.
- Jeff (8/5): We truly enjoyed our stay at The Red House and seeing the beautiful area of Amboseli! Seeing Mt Kilimanjaro every mornin - We loved the location of The Red House! Also, the groundskeeper and night guard were excellent and were able to provide everything we asked. There were no fans in the bedrooms so it remained hot through the night. Also, the deep freezer was not able to stay on through the days and nights due to the solar power.
- Nadine (6/5): the location has its charm - the view of Mount Kilimanjaro in the early morning hours is astounding.
easy communication with the host. the property was not ready for us when we arrived. took over 2 hours to get it ready.
the place not clean.
the caretaker living on the property requested us to close windows while we were still eating dinner, which seemed odd and since there are zero fans anywhere it was unbearably hot.
- Miguel (4/5): A lot to be improved. - The location. We spend 3 nights at Red House and we had 2 nights with a crickets infestation (hundreds of crickets inside the house, bedrooms and kitchen) and the mosquitos nets weren't a barrier for them, so we couldn't sleep. We also had problems with power (not possible use the fridge or charge phones, batteries, etc) and with the water supply in the bathrooms.
- Bethany (8/5): Very good -
- Jack (6/5): Pleasant and relaxing. Shame about the weather. - Great location, very private and the hosts were friendly and left me to it. The solar system was under powered, so I didn't have any electricity for most of my stay. I can make do, but others might not
- Winnie (7/5): Breathtaking location - The real selling point of this is it's location. The views of kilimanjaro are breathtaking, and it's proximity to the national park is great. Eating breakfast and dinner, or relaxing in the porch with these views are out of this world. The company recommended by the hosts for game drives were excellent and thoroughly recommend their services.
The on site staff were helpful and friendly. All communication ahead was prompt. One thing to note, the electricity is very unreliable, it's solar, but the battery system to store energy is very poor, meaning electricity is very limited (even if it's a very sunny day), and the fridge was only on for around 1hour per day maximum. As the nearest shop is more than 1 hour away (on bad roads) this could be an issue if food spoils/you don't bring non perishable supplies.
To reach RedHouse it's a 17km drive on a extremely rough track, suitable only for 4-wheel drive. This should be emphasised in the booking information
- Florian (8/5): house needs a bit improvement but overall a very nice location - nice location, house was ok. kitchen well well equipped. accessibility is ok. housekeeper is always available and assists everywhere. good service, we asked for a game drive. liked the sustainability aspect of the house. no fridge but a freezer. bit uncomfortable to store items inside. warm water was not really available. moskito net had holes. showers are not really functional. toilet seat is not comfortable.
- Dickson (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alain (8/5): Very good - Close to park
- Edarus (10/5): Exceptional - view thorns
- Eric (8/5): Good accommodation with nice view (but not the guide) - Nice view on the Kilimanjaro.
Clean house.
Friendly housekeeper. When we arrived at the accommodation there was also a (Masai) guide. He went with us to Amboseli, but it was our mistake to go with him. A lot of promises which he did not kept. Yes for the red house, but do NOT use the services of the Masai guide which is their. If you want a guide (which is in Amboseli not necessary), ask one at the gate.
- Salua (4/5): No hot water, no electricity, no internet, cockroaches and terrible communication - We liked the staff members Kitumana and Jonathan. We also liked the mattress, it was comfortable. Where to start... So many things went wrong and made our stay a nightmare.
The main problem is the communication with the manager of the hotel. No clear communication at all, no rules, no price list for activities. It was very hard to get clear replies from her only via booking.com chat. And talking on the phone with her was not helpful either, when we tried to ask more details. She decided to book a game driver for us for every day even if we didn't want nor asked for it. As the driver showed up, they started complaining that we didn't want to do safari drives every day, as the manager had promised them.
Payment of the hotel and the drives was a problem too. They had arguments between themselves and they put us in the middle. Payment was an awful experience, very stressful. No receipts are issued, they only accept cash and the problem is that you will be in the middle of nowhere with no access to banks or ATMs. Therefore you need to withdraw a lot of cash upfront and the whole payment situation becomes very sketchy.
There is no electricity in the evening, after sunset. The solar panels don't work properly. Therefore dinner is in the dark and there's no way you can charge your camera or phones at night. It only works from 5AM. We were constantly using torches to move from one place to the other, as it is pitch black in the desert. We also had dinner in darkness.
There is no hot water. Solar panels don't work properly therefore only cold water is available. Even if you shower during the hottest hours.
There is no internet. This is a bigger problem than what is seems. You cannot ask for help or look up things online, in case you have problems as we did, you are left with nothing. The staff members also don't have internet. We had problems on the last day as the driver didn't want to take us to the airport and we had to go for help to the nearby camp, which has internet.
The bathroom has cockroaches, many.
- Yaron (9/5): Great stay! Best value for money! - Great location, well equipped and maintained, quiet and clean. Great staff caring for the house. 10 minutes drive from Amboseli Iremito Gate.
- Joh (10/5): Exceptional - THE HOSTS, the askari, and the guy looking after the property, both are very good people!! Location, the host, and the place are really all you need for a weekend away!!! you will see me AGAIN!!! NOTHING
- Holger (9/5): great place - nice people - perfect place to explore amboseli Nationalpark.
thanks for organising the game drive with Joseph. we had a great time.
indoor + outdoor shower
thanks to Alex who helped to keep everything clean and working. only downside might be the freezer, which can be used via the generator only.
- Duncan (7/5): Good -
