• Pauline (10/5): A relaxing and very pleasant stay - We arrived in the afternoon and checked in to a lovely room overlooking the pool and river. A lovely relaxing room and beautifully appointed bathroom. We decided to have lunch. Goodness what a variety of food at such a very reasonable cost. It was displayed like it was a painting and it was hard not to disrupt the cakes and pastries that were on offer to. All the staff were so pleasant and very kind and helpful. We had breakfast the next morning and again were not disappointed on the amount of food to choose from. A great hotel and would definitely recommend.

La piscine et la salle de sport sont de vrais plus pour profiter pleinement de l’hôtel. Le personnel est respectueux, attentif et valorise vraiment les clients. L’équipe de sécurité est présente et rassurante. L’emplacement est parfait, et le room service est de très bonne qualité. Tout s’est très bien passé dans l’établissement. Le seul point négatif concerne un groupe de voyageurs à notre étage qui faisait beaucoup de bruit, ce qui a un peu perturbé le calme du séjour.

Front desk make you feel welcome the way they only can do in Sri Lanka. 1| One of the two rooms we entered had a very strong smell of food, specifically pasta. The previous guest must have ordered room service, but the smell was honestly nauseating. It was far too strong to ignore and made the room feel anything but fresh or welcoming. 2 | We had lunch by the pool and, once we were finished, I brought the plates back to the bar myself because there were many crows around. When the manager noticed this, he publicly reprimanded his staff because he felt they should have cleared the plates before I did. That reaction was completely unnecessary and, frankly, humiliating for the staff. It felt uncomfortable to witness and very unprofessional. In my opinion, good management is not about publicly scolding people, especially not in front of guests. A proper manager supports the team, corrects things privately and treats staff with respect. The lunch itself was fine, but this incident left a very bad impression. This kind of behavior is not acceptable in hospitality.

Staff manning the entrance and the valet parking were superb. Can't say the same about the staff at the reception unfortunately. My son stayed at the hotel for around 10 days during a junior cricket tournament, and during that time, Vochana stood out for her warm and welcoming nature. She was always friendly, approachable, and made a lasting impression on us. Her professionalism and enthusiasm in promoting the hotel and its facilities truly encouraged us to come back and experience the property ourselves. We decided to stay over a weekend, and it was absolutely worth it. Vochana is extremely knowledgeable, welcoming, and always willing to share helpful information, making guests feel comfortable and well taken care of. Our stay was fantastic, the rooms were clean and well maintained, and the entire staff was incredibly kind, helpful, and attentive. Highly recommended, and special thanks again to Vochana for making our experience even more memorable!

Was a trifle disappointed that there were not many varieties of fresh,cut tropical fruits at the buffet, compared to similar buffets in Thailand or Malaysia. Both the Chinese and Thai restaurants in the hotel were good. The latter more so.All in all a pleasant enough stay. I didn't like that the place settings at the breakfast buffet didn't have teaspoons. Had to run around and ask for one.

• Reisefreund (8/5): Gutes Hotel in guter Gegend - Super Frühstück, höfliches und schnell reagierendes Personal. Tolle Lage unweit von Bahnhof und Strand. Es gab einige Mängel im Zimmer. Diese wurden jedoch von der Rezeption zur Kenntnis genommen. Es erfolgte eine Rücksprache mit dem Manager und dem Manager für die Zimmer und dem Service.

Provision of kettle, iron and ironing board in room. Plenty of window and natural light in room. One of the elevators would not recognise my keycard/floor choice as valid - so would have to get into another one. Minor inconvenience but annoying when you have sore knees .

• Mark (7/5): Great staff but the hotel could be so so so much better with just a little more effort - We had a 1 week stay with our 5 month old baby. Enjoyed overall but it could be so much better … First and foremost, every member of staff was incredibly friendly & helpful. Nothing was ever too much of an ask, and the staff always responded with a smile. I feel compelled to give a special mention to Angelo on the front desk, and Pasan & Manjula from maintenance. We had an issue with our room, and they were all a great help in getting the issue rectified. Sadly, the hotel itself is a bit tired overall. It needs some TLC. There a few things that should be considered to improve the customer experience. I’m informed that the hotel is part of the John Keels group, so I’m pretty sure there is money to spend on some simple improvements. Some constructive criticism below: - The key card system doesn’t work. We had to get a new card every time we wanted to go to our room. And I know we weren’t the only ones. Tiresome. - Great buffet breakfast, but nowhere near enough space to house all guests. People and tables were on top of each other. Not a nice experience. - The pool and bar area is too congested with nowhere near enough shaded space. There is a whole row of beds running down the left side of the pool without a single umbrella for shade. Would it be too much of an ask to add 4 or 5 extra umbrellas down that side ? - The small narrow garden that runs by the lake (down the steps from the pool) is such a lovey area, but it’s totally underused. Why not grass the whole area next to the lake and put more sun loungers - in small bays of two beds with a table. Have a bell on each table to ring up to the pool bar for drink / food service. Would be a nice touch and also ease the congestion round the pool. - The lake itself is very dirty with lots of litter on the shores near the hotel. Clean daily? - The bar / live music venue … is it really necessary to be pumping out loud music up until midnight . Our baby couldn’t sleep, and I know other rooms also had complaints about this. It’s great having a bar, but maybe consider the hotel guests who don’t appreciate the noise when trying to sleep. - Wine options. I know Sri Lanka is not really the place for drinking wine, but be good to have a few options. There was only 1 bottle of white to choose from?! I hope you find the above constructive.

There was nothing that we did not like at this hotel.

• Gillian (1/5): Terrible - avoid - The evening buffet was good The first room they showed us smelled!! We paid an extra supplement to upgrade to an executive room! The room is tired, dirty toilet, pillows and mattress cheap and uncomfortable, but the worse thing was being woken up at 8am by workmen hammering above and the DJ from a very loud party thinking it was ok to do a sound check at 8.30am. The pool was too warm the sun loungers really uncomfortable and the extremely loud music from a party happening at the side of the pool meant you couldn’t relax!! No apologies
