Guest Reviews
- Leonid (10/5): - Great location, a lot of food, quick reaction of hosts on WhatsApp and messaging, great coral reefs, they suggested snorkel trips. It is a simple but nice place, if you enjoy sleeping with sound of the sea it is the place for you.
It is good value for money, simple and nice.
- Arne (9/5): Perfect Island-Getaway with local village character.
- Chistian (7/5): Slightly disappointed but still authentic stay - The bungalows and location is nice. There is a small village on the island which is great to explore and the spots close by like Friwen wall or mioskon a great for trips. Super simple food and repetitive. They barely speak Englisch so Communication is difficult even for arranging trips. Despite it being an homestay it was not really clean in comparison to other homestays.
- Katja (8/5): -
- Mark (9/5): Very comfort and relaxing stay in a superb location with water lapping under our cottage. - really enjoyed the vibe on Friwen, friendly fellow guests, plentiful and tasty meals, lovely to be on a small island and appreciated the interesting birdlife (Palm Cockatoos, Great-billed Heron, various doves and parrots). plastic rubbish!
- Jon (7/5): Would revisit for the view! - Lovely location, veranda overlooking the sea. Good reef off the beach. One trip to Friwen wall, very good value. Bathroom very basic but worked.
- Till (7/5): Great food, privat balcony but no clean toilets - Food was great, had a lot of very delicious fish :) Toilets were pretty smelly and not really clean
Discussion houleuse et très pénible.
- Barbara (8/5): - Decent bungalow with a bathroom outside. But only in my case - two other bungalows dedicated for two had bathrooms inside. Basic but very tasty food - we must remember that the homestay is on a tiny island. Bathroom...
- Uli (6/5): - Durchschnittlicher Homestay.
- Peter (8/5): - Great location, good beach in front and another on short walk. Food was typical RA Homestay. Could get cold Bingtangs next door. Twin beds were not that comfortable. Bathrooms dark.
- Masayoshi (9/5): -
- Frederik (10/5): Underrated island. Go there! - Great bungalow. Good food. We asked for veggie options and everyday there was tempe tofu and egg for us and a big fish for the omnivores and a big plate of veggies. And all day around there is bananas and oranges.
Snorkeling was great. We spotted 15 dugongs between the two rocks early morning at Hightide.
The village is nice and Snorkeling at the jetty great too
- Viktor (10/5): Amazing - Beautiful island and this amazing homestay is on the best part of the island, good food, wonderful staff. 10/10
- Jeroen (9/5): We had a great stay - Great family who did a great job. Best food, very helpfull, lock for the room and guitar music. Snorkling around the corner and help to arrange some dives. Magical place!
Sehr weiche Matratzen
- Ddaedalus (10/5): Gorgeous Slice of Paradise, Easy Accomodation - I booked 8 days here. I went diving for three days on the Pulau Gam and snorkeled daily on Friwen. They are about a 10 mins boat ride.
The Homestay is rustic. There are two beds covered with mosquito net. They are totally fine but somehow one would get in every night. It’s an island at the equator, there are mosquitoes. Also geckos! That’s part of the adventure.
The room has an interior slide lock and there’s a clipping lock with a key for locking when you’re away. Honestly I never locked my place. The island seems very safe. Kids playing, most of the folks on the island are involved in tourism, though they don’t speak much English. It wasn’t an issue.
I traveled solo and spent most afternoons in the hammock, reading, writing or napping.
The food was amazing, delicious, the cook is very sweet and calls you to breakfast, lunch and dinner. The fresh fish is caught daily. Vegetables and rice, very delicious and all included. Large quantities. Box lunches are available if you are diving all day. Bananas are snacks. Unlimited instant coffee, tea, hot water.
The island is stunning. Sunsets amazing. The reef has more life to see while snorkeling than most places (Europe, Caribbean, US, Latin America) have to see while scuba diving! I saw turtles, squid, dolphins playing, reef sharks and millions of coral.
A not about cash and other fees: you will need ~140,000 to take a ferry from Sorong to Waisai. Then you’ll need 600,000 to ride each way from Waisai to Friwen (this can be divided with others, provided there are other riders.). On Waisai, you’ll have to buy a Marine Park pass and an entry pass, in total 1,000,000. So you’ll need around 2,250,000 in cash (be prepared bc the pass can be purchased online, or card but sometimes their system is down and you have to pay cash). In Sorong airport there are four ATMs, most of them don’t work well. There are ATMs on Waisai but you have to ride a motorcycle to them.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Keep in mind: you’re going to a remote island: this isn’t a resort. You will have to go without some comforts of civilization, that’s what makes this place beautiful.
Electricity is usually on during the night. No WiFi. My cell didn’t get good signal, might have been the best part of the trip.
- Barbara (10/5): Exceptional - Great food, sweet family
- Petr (10/5): Exceptional -
- Xabi (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing place and amazing people :)
- Jacab (9/5): 100% recommended. - Fantastic bungalow with a very comfy bed. The staff is super friendly and always made sure I had everything I needed.
You are provided with a lock for the main door of the bungalow, but to be honest I didn´t need it. I felt all my belongings were always safe.
The island is small and has a village with a couple of small shops and a church. Everyone is friendly and is happy to meet you there. Smiles guaranteed.
There was a couple of beautiful Kuskus on a tree next to the homestay.
Snorkelling by the jetty is great, and just a few minutes walking from the bungalow.
There are two scuba dive centers on islands nearby (corepen and tarzan). Contact them and they will pick you up.
- Roland (1/5): Not recommended - The views from the bungalow are nice and the food was acceptable. All the good reviews led us to book this place but we later found out that are a bit misleading in our opinion. The private bathroom was super dirty and smelly, so if you book this place consider having the room with no private toilet (the shared toilets are even worse though, but at least you don’t smell them from your bed).
But the worst for us was having rats inside the room. We read in many places that it was advisable not to have food inside the room and we didn’t have any, but somehow one of the nights we had rats inside (we even saw one of them) and ripped off one of our bags. There was even rat poo on top of the mosquito net.
- Dario (8/5): Very good - Family very friendly and nice. The island is little gem Difficult to communicate
- Richard (9/5): Lovely quiet location, beautiful sunset views from the balcony. - Mama Olin was a great cook. The family were super friendly, but don’t speak much English. Location is beautiful - right on the beach. We had an attached bathroom with a nice shower (but no hot water). You have to take a boat to reach a good snorkeling place. The neighbor Pak Otto, has a boat and is an excellent guide.
- Moto (8/5): I Love this home stay - very warm homestay. I had very great time here. There was no guest excepting me.but I've never felt lonely cause the family always care me and kids played with me.
foods were very nice. The fish which Grace (second daughter)caught and coocked was great. nothing special
- Joaquín (10/5): Exceptional - The homestay is really nice! It’s by the beach and you have lots of corals just in front.
The food is excellent :)
The family is very welcoming and nice
I highly recommend :)
- Ziad (8/5): Very good -
- Louise (8/5): The homestay is beautifully located next to the water. Here it is very quiet and private, and with almost no boat traffi - Great view, lovely people, lazy days, private hut. You had to swim for a while to get to the house reef
- Jan (9/5): Nice place to start or end your RA adventure - Nice homestay, just 2 new huts with 2 shared toilets and 2 real showers. Towels provided. Huts are nice, spacious with raised beds, quality mosquito nets and blankets to cover. Fans are available with electricity whole night till morning. No noises from generator.
Nice and tasty meals 3x per day.
Owner always responded to my questions sent, his wife Olive take care of us with smile and was very attentive.
This homestey is on the left to Aldejus, google maps shows there Aldejus homestay but there is Amfriwen and Aldejus is more on right side looking from the sea to huts.
Once accommodated if you go to right from your hut you find there during low tide a picture perfect Caribbean style beach and you can snorkel to left from this beach over nice coral. Just mind if you swim straight or left from your hut there is just sand and grass, you have to keep to the right to reach coral. Boat trip to Friwen wall is 200k and recommended during afternoon hours due to sun position. All was ok.
2 chairs could be added to each hut terrace.
- Romy (8/5): Very good homestay for a very good price on a very good spot - The location and spot are great! Its a very beautiful island with lots of accessible reefs around it. The owners/family is very kind and gives you a welcome feeling. The food is good. And the cottages are basic but clean, there is a ventilator+mosquito net. Sanitair is how you expect it at a honestay, they got western toilet. Owners dont speak English, but there are people around that do, so its not a big problem. And the owners are very much willing to help.
A little bit more pro-activity in regards to excursions to other islands, will be nice. They offer us some snorkeling tours after we asked for it, some of a list would work.
- Juan (9/5): Superb - This Island is very underrated, it is one of the greatest places I have been in Raja Ampat, moreover if you want to go away from the tourist stream, the family managing the homestay are very friendly! Moskitos
- Adelheid (8/5): Excellent- would stay again! - Small homestay , nice family and gorgeous sunsets- and with luck you see dugongs! I enjoyed staying there! All was fine!
- Eileen (10/5): Exceptional - We enjoyed our stay at Amfriwen. The bungalow was clean, had a fan, a mosquito net and a little shelf space.
The veranda and the view were amazing.
The bathroom was outside and for us one of the better facilities during our stay in Raja ampat.
The food was very simple but always enough.
We enjoyed our stay and say thank you to the lovely family.
