Guest Reviews
- Paul (10/5): Recommend - Great location 👌
Lovely and compact very clean and bright
Everything we needed a a relaxing stay
Thank you so much Kristen and Mark Nothing not to like
- Katie (10/5): Great location, cosy and stylish room, perfect for a weekend by the sea! - Another lovely stay here. The room is really cosy, super stylish and perfect for short breaks by the sea. It's location is perfect for exploring Hastings and St Leonards and opposite the lovely Alexandra Park. We highly recommend The Pumphouse Cafe for food and drink options all day.
- Paul (10/5): Lush - Lovely outside space , Worth the booking alone . Great host and very friendly pet dog , who’s a bit of a character . We enjoyed starting and ending our days /nights in Hastings on the private terrace surrounded by a gorgeous lush greenery and adjacent established back gardens . Made it feel like we were in a forest . There is a woods directly behind and the beautiful Alexander Park to the front . Highly recommended. Nothing, for our requirements and needs it was perfectly fine
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional - Great location, the park over the road is lovely
- Matthew (8/5): Quiet, self-contained apartment in Hastings, 25 minutes from centre - The self-contained apartment behind the family home is in a quiet location just opposite Alexandra Park, on the outskirts of Hastings, a 25-minute walk from the Old Town, 20 minutes from the station. It is generally quiet and comfortable with good facilities, including hot-drinks machine, toaster, kettle, wi-fi, fridge, crockery etc. It is secure, behind a lockable side door and lockable entrance facing out onto the tiered rear garden. There is a composite bath / shower with removable showerhead.
Kristen the owner is very helpful and friendly. Milk and coffee-pods were included. The windows have flimsy curtains which do not stop any light so eye-masks may be useful. Be aware there are 25-odd stone steps up from street level to the apartment. Be cautious of the trip-hazard doorways between bedroom and kitchen, and bedroom to bathroom. We covered the low step with the bath mat, to guard against stubbing toes! The hot water can take a few minutes to come through so it is suggested to run the bath hot-tap on full at the same time as the sink to pull through hot water. But the host can switch on the booster on the family boiler. We didn't find that necessary. One simple fix would be for the host to add a few coat-hangers. No TV, but we didn't want one anyway.
- Dries (8/5): The perfect place for a first trip to England - The location is perfect : within walking distance of the city center, many parking opportunities and the appartement is next to a beautiful park.
The hosts are always easy to reach if you have and questions, and they do their best to make you feel at home.
If you're planning to visit Hastings, look no further, this is the place to stay ; ) No negative mark but just a heads up after using the shower, the bathroom gets really humid so don't forget to let the window a little bit open to reduce it.
- Katie (10/5): Excellent location, cosy and relaxed - We absolutely loved our stay at Alexandra Retreat. It’s beautifully decorated and as it’s set at the back of a large house with its own entrance it’s nice and quiet, with use of a little sun trap courtyard garden. The location is excellent being a short walk into town or over to the old town. It’s also located opposite a lovely large park which has a really great cafe called Pump house who do a fantastic all day menu. The host is extremely friendly and responsive and gave us local recommendations. Highly recommended. Nothing, we love it and we’re are booking in again this summer for another long weekend!
- Elizabeth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lena (8/5): Very good - Clean, lovely bathroom, well equipped. Steps to flat, no handrail on second flight, made it difficult to descend.
No television.( but was aware of this before we came)
- Andrew (10/5): Quiet, peaceful and homely - A lovely property in an ideal location lovingly looked after by the hosts. Clean and very well presented. Can't think of anything.
- Amit (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amy (10/5): Exceptional - Cosy lil place to stay! Right by a beautiful park.
This place has everything you need for a stay away. It was really nicely done. Shower and bath amazing!! Clean. Comfortable bed.
I had a really lovely stay xx
- Simon (10/5): Great place, nice and quiet, would definitely stay here again - Very nice place, convenient to get into town, near a park, and quiet
- Anjee (8/5): Perfect for a short break. - Hosts were lovely! Great location, well equipped and very clean. Also have to say, the shower is fabulous! A TV would have been nice.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amelia (10/5): Cosy stay - Well kept everything we needed really simple, left alone, nice and tucked away, close to shops and the sea front, shower was amazing nice and powerful bed was super comfy and the houseplants made it feel super homely.
- Benedict (9/5): Very pleased with Alexandra Retreat; it is tucked away but everything is within walking distance. - The apartment was extremely stylishly designed. I really appreciated the friendly welcome note and packet of biscuits! And it was one of the best showers I have had! I think the apartment would benefit from a TV to watch in the evening.
- Devanw (10/5): Perfect stay at Alexandra Retreat. - Our stay at the Alexandra Retreat was absolutely perfect. The room was in a lovely central location with everything we could have possibly needed. The hosts were incredibly welcoming and kind. The room itself was really well designed and felt like a home rather than a hotel. If we ever come back to Hastings, we know exactly where to stay. There wasn't a single thing we disliked.
- Carmel (9/5): Superb - Great hosts. Let us check in early.
- Jane (7/5): A great place for sightseeing and for catching up with some friends in a neighbouring town. - Very friendly hosts who were quick to respond to messages and offer suggestions for local attractions, as well as making parking permits readily available. Property was accessible to town and train station. The level of humidity was quite high in the property which meant that towels did not dry.
There was a clothes airer but the humidity prevented the washing from drying.
- Miriam (10/5): Cute French feel to a lovely Hastings stay - We purposely booked this property for its French feel and style, it was within a small walking distance to the main town and had everything we needed and more. There is nothing that I can really say, we found the place perfect.
- Lorraine (10/5): Wonderful - Location was excellent - just across the road from Alexandria Park - such welcoming hosts - the little annexe was perfect in every way and having the little garden was icing on the cake - great place can highly recommend it
- Colin (10/5): Exceptional - We really enjoyed our weekend stay here. The accommodation had more than everything we needed and was clean and bright. A lovely peaceful location to relax and unwind. We would definitely recommend, especially if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the seafront. Right on the doorstep is Alexandra Park which is beautiful, full of wildlife and the cafe does great food.
- Amy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maeve (8/5): We are very familiar with Hastings so this central location suited us well. - Very clean annexe.
Comfy bed.
Coffee, tea, milk & biscuits were a nice touch.
A hand towel in the kitchen and kitchen roll would have been welcome in the kitchen. Blackout blinds needed as too much light coming through in early morning.
Step into bathroom needs to be clearly marked to avoid tripping. (we solved this by placing the bath mat at the step).
- Lily (10/5): Lovely relaxed stay in a great area of Hastings - The annex was beautifully decorated with everything we needed for our weekend stay. The location was lovely and quiet and super close to the station which was handy.
- Ophelia (8/5): Very good -
- Nadine (8/5): Lovely stays - We stayed for a long weekend and had a lovely time, the location directly at the park is great and it's a nice walk into town with many pubs, restaurants, etc within walking distance en route. The place is at the back of a family home and thus feels very cozy and private. It has everything and more that you need, it's thoughtfully equipped and makes for a cozy stay. The communication with the host is very quick and informative, and she is so lovely! We would stay again ! We stayed in Hastings during what felt the coldest weekend of the year and despite hot water bottles and the moveable heater it was quite chilly at night. But to be fair, every single place in Hastings was cold indoors during that exceptional weekend, so that might not be representative of what it usually is like. We enjoyed our stay nonetheless (also thanks to lovely hot baths!)
- Barbara (8/5): Value for money. Nice welcome and help with parking permit all round very nice cosy place to stay. - Nice and clean bright and welcoming.
Nice touch with the welcoming personalised note. There wasn’t any hot water in the morning.
