Guest Reviews
- Richard (9/5): Wonderful Isle of Wight retro retreat. - Unusual glamping & camping site for something that little bit different. Fabulous site manager. Spotlessly clean everywhere. Nothing
- William (10/5): Retro starvation is a very welcoming place to stay, its close by to so many attractions and place to see, Sarah gave us - We loved the retro feel of it, I hadn’t anticipated it would be so well laid out, with gas hob, a fridge, it even has its own sink and shower within the caravan. As well as the convertible sofa bed, it has 2 single beds for the kids with a separation from the main living room, which provides great flexibility when travelling with older kids. The sofa bed was tricky to convert, but bear in mind it’s from the 50s and it didn’t deter from our enjoyment!
- Stefan (10/5): Excellent accommodation and location - Great quirky accommodation. Sarah was brilliant and took time to show and explain the history of the Airstream caravan Only having 2 nights
- Louise (10/5): - Beautiful van, beautiful location, excellent host, very friendly and welcoming!
- BeeL8 (10/5): Amazing stay at Retro Staycations! - We absolutely loved our stay at Retro Saycations! The caravan was good size, all the facilities were there and the staff was super helpful. We also ordered the breakfast of the fresh local produce from the local farm shop and it was delicious! Would definitely recommend!
- Linda (10/5): Fantastic and relaxing - The site and Airstream was perfect and Sarah the host very friendly and welcoming.
- Paula (10/5): Fantastic x - The quirkiness x For me distance yo toilets but I’ve shared that with the owner x
- Matt (9/5): Funky 1962 airstream caravan. Loved it. Would definitely recommend - Loved the airstream caravan and its originality. Very friendly host. Nice quiet location apart from the occasional speedway which is worth a watch. 24hr farm shop that came in handy. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for something quirky Other campers banging the toilet door in the early hours of the morning
- Kristina (10/5): Thank you for such a special and memorable stay. We’ll definitely be back! - We had such a wonderful time at Retro Staycations! Alex and Sarah were particularly kind and helpful throughout our stay, which made everything feel extra welcoming. The trailers are absolutely charming — stylish, beautifully preserved, and full of character. Ours was from 1949, and it was such a unique experience to stay in something so well looked after yet comfortable.
The site itself is set in a lovely spot complemented by the delightful little farm shop.
- Preeti (10/5): -
- Emmerentia (10/5): Had a great stay, we loved the Airstream and it was kitted out with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The site -
- Nathan (10/5): -
- Risny Sharaff (9/5): - It was better than we expected, Sarah was very helpful and very good customer service, it's very good experience for us, Kids love the place.
we had a very good time, we would love to go again.
- Eline (10/5): Heel bijzonder en zéker voor herhaling vatbaar! - Uniek! Dit moet je een keer meemaken! Sarah is ontzettend aardig en zorgt dat alles er is! Niets!
- Hull (10/5): Perfect getaway from it all! - We loved staying in very comfortable and stylish Freya, for a birthday celebration, made all the more special by lovely Sarah! We so enjoyed being in the Isle of Wight and our experience with Retrostaycations on Hazel Grove farm was perfect. The facilities, farm shop and campsite were ideal for a getaway from it all time and we would love to return ❤️. Leaving!
- Jessie (10/5): Had a lovely time. Great location! Kids loved it. Clean and amazing staff. - Lovely airstream and great experience
- Laura Beese (10/5): Would recommend! - My other half and I stayed in ‘Humphrey’ for our one year anniversary, we absolutely loved it. We were so impressed with how retro, clean and quirky it was. Sarah, the host was absolutely lovely and very accommodating; we not only got free teas and coffees but also a small pint of milk (from the farm shop) which was lovely; also free little shampoo and soap which wasn’t expected.
We absolutely loved the whistling kettle, the oven was great, the hob worked fine and we loved the little shower (which we called the little tin can!) The bedding was lovely and the bed was very comfy, the fan worked a treat; we absolutely loved the drawers and how you opened them, along with the American switches and plugs! We loved the retro Stereo too and the fire pit and bbq outside.
We made good use of the bbq and fire pit, this was absolutely lovely, we went shopping beforehand (nice big fridge and freezer too), we loved the little 24 hour farm shop, that was absolutely amazing, what a treat. Also, the toilet block was also very clean!
Overall, we had the best 4 days in Humphrey and were very sad to leave. We will definitely be back and we would definitely recommend to others! Everything was perfect!
- Samuel (10/5): Brilliant place for kids - Lovely welcome from Sarah Bed was slightly uncomfortable
- ian (10/5): Long weekend in a heatwave with the family. The airstreams looked cool and kept us cool - Sarah, our host could not have been more helpful, from the moment we arrived, she greeted us at the gate, explained everything, went above and beyond providing additional accomodation for nothing to aid our comfort. Loved the airstreams, very cool and comfortable. Loved the dog friendly camp site, shower and toilets were also much better than expected Nothing. It was excellent from start to finish
- Ruvimbo (10/5): I really enjoyed my stay no complaints and l regret booking for a short stay - It’s unique and feels at home because we had everything Absolutely nothing
- Sam (10/5): Fantastic, unique stay in a wonderful site and caravan! Sarah was super friendly and available. - The Airstream was great fun! Very quirky. Loved having a shower in the caravan. The setting was also lovely. The honesty shop was convenient. The sofa bed could have been comfier.
I couldn't find the hairdryer.
- Carla (10/5): - Our family had a fantastic stay and we didn't want to leave. Sarah was an excellent host, she greeted us when we arrived and settled us in explaining all the fun quirks of the van. She was always on hand either on site or at the end of the telephone if we needed any advice or help. We all loved staying in Walt and he contained everything we needed. We enjoyed bbqing, and sitting round the fire on warm evenings and snuggling up warm and cosy on rainy ones. We highly recommend staying here.
- Duncan brian (10/5): -
- Stewart (10/5): An incredible experience and a wonderful hostess called Sarah who was really accommodating and extremely helpful. X - We had the most amazing time together as a family and the airstream had everything you would need. I was impressed how clean it was and how easy it was to use. My kids had the most wonderful time. It was great to get away from all the devices !!!
- Emma Marie (7/5): - Location, and staff lovely. Good clean facilities The bed in lounge was so uncomfortable and kept collapsing
- simon (10/5): quiet time - for some peaceful time away from the real world this is ideal, honesty farm shop has all the food you need to get by…. nothing
- Charlene (9/5): We booked our holiday stay on a not too nice of a weather. But staying at Retrostaycations gave us an experience that we - It was unique and an incredible experience on its own. We can’t really fault anything because we don’t have much to compare from.
- Razvan (10/5): -
- Debs (10/5): This was such a memorable trip, Sarah the owner was so lovely and took the trouble to go over everything that was availa - Totally unique, really lovely There wasn’t anything I didn’t like.
- Shubhendu (7/5): -
- Hannah (10/5): Amazing - Amazing location and the host Sarah was so
Helpful Nothing
- Louis (8/5): -
- Louise (10/5): Brilliant experience - This is a wonderful place to stay. Our airstream was beautifully restored, clean, comfortable and had everything you could need. We had a fire pit and a bbq, there’s a little farm shop on site selling delicious food and logs. The staff were incredibly helpful, can’t fault them at all. The location is great for exploring the island, only 20 min from the east cowes ferry port, and only about 10 min from a big Tesco superstore for all your supplies. There wasn’t anything we didn’t love about staying here, sad we couldn’t stay longer.
- Taryn (10/5): - The whole experience was a good difference. Not what I normally do so it was an amazing experience and Sarah was so helpful and friendly. Would do it again and try a different caravan The rain on the first night 😂
- Nicholas (8/5): Would 100% recommend a visit here. - Really lovely campsite. Big field with a small number of 1950s airline caravans sensibly spaced around one side. All the things you'd need to enjoy a camp in a little more comfort and style than being in a tent. Good bed, BBQ, fire pit, picnic table etc. Our 5 year old daughter loved it, and so did we. No complaints at all - these are vintage caravans on a campsite - so facilities are exactly as expected.
- Nathan (9/5): Memories made - Great place to stay and use as a base. Had bbq's and a fire which kids loved. Very different, clean, quiet. Nice place to relax.
- Dominic (8/5): - Staff approach and cleanness
- Victoria (9/5): Relaxing and enjoyable stay! We would definitely go back. - We stayed in Humphrey, the caravan was very clean with great quality bed linens. Towels were also provided along with welcome tea, coffee and local milk, which was a really nice touch. The main bed was comfortable and I slept better than I have in hotels over the years. Shower and toilet block was kept very clean and despite being very small shower and toilet cubicles worked very well. I was impressed. The setting is lovely and quiet with a farm shop on hand 24/7. Having a field to use was so nice and we felt very relaxed sitting outside at the picnic table or on the 2 Adirondack chairs. Cooking facilities were brilliant in the caravan with a 3 burner gas stove and oven. Along with BBQ and fire pit outside.
I was also concerned that the caravan would be hot inside, but it wasn’t at all.
Host Sarah was warm and welcoming. She was there during the day and 10 minutes away overnight in case of any issues. My only complaint, which I mentioned to Sarah as we left, is that the “sofabed” in the living room for my teenage child to sleep on was not comfortable at all. It was a small L-shaped sofa, which you lay flat for a bed. However there is a rock hard bit in the centre which you can’t lie on, and either side of that the support is so squashed down that it is not comfortable. Even with the provided mattress topper it was highly uncomfortable and not really suitable as a bed.
Sarah was a fantastic host and said she’d look at this as they are still learning with this only being their 3rd season.
As Humphrey was made in 1949, he does smell a little musty inside, but with the windows open and the very nice scents provided in the caravan we didn’t mind.
- Prakash (8/5): -
- Gill (10/5): Loved every minute - The accommodation is so unique; we stayed in the ‘Little Eva’ Airstream Camper and it was adorable and very comfortable. Sarah the host is very thoughtful and I was particularly touched by her kindness when she rang to say our accommodation was ready an 1 1/2 earlier; she knew we were getting the 12 o’clock ferry and would have been trying to entertain the children until the 3oclock check-in. Also I would recommend the breakfast basket and using the farm shop.
- Vivienne (9/5): Definitely recommend and hope to return ourselves sometime. - Everything. Fantastic location 10 mins into Ryde. Caravan was well equipped and comfortable. Sarah was extremely friendly and helpful. Shower and toilet block was clean. Would highly recommend for a stay with a little bit of difference from a “normal “ caravan. Stayed with the grandchildren and they thought it was fantastic. Nothing. Only thing would take a couple of American adapters with you as all original fixings. This isn’t a problem as you are provided with two, but if you have a lot of “devices” could have done with a couple more and would have taken some with us.
- Chris (10/5): -
- Jenny (10/5): We had the most wonderful time! The staff are just so friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be returning in the future - All the vans are so cool!! Each and every one is so unique and have be beautiful maintained.
- Marco (9/5): -
- Faye (7/5): - Friendly atmosphere, no TV so playing games and actually talking to each other. Different settings than we are use to and took sometime to adapt but by the end of our stay we was use to it and enjoyed it. Farm shop also sold beautiful tasty products Sofa bed was slightly uncomfortable the join stook out and it dipped where people sat on as a sofa. But to be expected from the age. And shock having to walk across the field for the toilet
- Christine (8/5): A great experience. - The chance to stay in an airstream caravan, authentic in all its facilities was interesting. Great location and even had a shop on site. You have to remember this is a 60s caravan so electrics are always going to be an issue when you are used to charging lots of devices.
- Andrea (9/5): A fantastic experience of American caravaning! - A beautiful, quiet location, near to Ryde town, with major supermarket / garden centre nearby.
Caravans well positioned with sufficient space between them for privacy.
Deckchairs, firepit and bbq provided for outdoor living, however interior had ample cooking facilities, eg. gas hob and toaster.
Fabulous decor, well laid out to maximise small space, with ample storage and all utensils provided.
Separate toilet block and shower nearby if you didn't want shower in caravan.
Sarah provided little touches with biscuits, milk and a food basket (extra cost) to start your holiday.
Sarah went out of her way to ensure a warm welcome and informative tour / history of the Airstream caravans. Nothing.
- Kayleigh (10/5): - Amazing, family friendly. The peace and quiet.
The family feel. Nothing I loved it all
- Reg (9/5): We enjoyed our stay in Humphrey and the location was perfect for us - Perfect location, lovely and clean and bed very comfortable. The staff team were all very helpful and friendly, this really impressed us.
- Suzie (10/5): Home from home experience se - Loved absolutely everything
This was our second stay at Retro Staycations and it just gets even better and better
The breakfast we ordered from the farm was incredible as well Loved everything
- Claire (10/5): - Loved the quirkiness of everything! loved the extra touches - the cookies, tea and coffee, washing up things and the games the only bad thing about our stay was the weather!🙈
- Elizabeth (8/5): Great - The experience was really good the site was quiet as its the end of the season
- Mark (7/5): Kitsch , retro caravan - Couldn’t walk-in to Ryde
But taxis cheap enough
- Guest (10/5): Relax and peaceful holiday - The property was so clean and well looked after. Nothing really we had a lovely time x
- Ronald van (8/5): Uitstekend - Mooie plek om het eiland te verkennen en te kamperen niets
- James (9/5): - The location was great, getting back to basics, no mod cons and Humphrey the caravan just had lots of nostalgia. N/a
- Joseph (10/5): -
- Hayley (10/5): Perfect - We loved everything about our stay. The setting was perfect, plenty of outdoor space to play in which felt clean and safe. The pic nic benches, bbq and firepit were very welcomed by us and the farm shop selling firewood, eggs and other handy bits was another bonus.
The airstream itself was the main wow factor. Really quirky, great attention to detail and very clean and comfy.
Finally, Sarah our host was great, so welcoming and helpful.
we would love to return one day.
Thank you 😊 nothing
- Ryosuke (9/5): -
- Suzie (10/5): This was our first visit to The Isle of Wight and to Retro Staycations and boy it did not disappoint - Simply AMAZING!!Absolutely loved every part of our wonderful stay
Such a unique experience in a wonderful location and so much fun for our little family
Completely faultless and we can’t wait to return
From the moment we booked Sarah and Alex were in touch to offer guidance and tips on where to visit whilst on the Isle of Wight, what to book in advance and eateries which did not disappoint
They constantly kept us updated on what there was happening the weekend we were visiting on site and off site and were on hand throughout our whole stay and 24/7 if we needed anything at all
For us it was the personal touches for our girls especially that meant so much and it was my daughters 4th birthday whilst we were there which they made very special along with early celebrations for my 40th birthday
Can’t recommend enough and we can’t wait to return
Thank you Sarah and Alex x Nothing to fault at all
