Guest Reviews
- Laura (10/5): We had an excellent stay and definitely plan to return. Three nights was just not long enough! - Very comfortable and cosy. Excellent shower and hot tub a lovely treat. Nothing
- Helen (10/5): Peaceful location - Loved the hot tub, peaceful location and
the beautiful paintings on the walls which were painted by the hosts Grandfather.
The cottage is very close to the Red kites and nesting Ospreys near Threave castle so plenty to see nearby.
- JENNIFER (10/5): - We loved everything about Strathken cottage, so homely and our hosts made us feel very welcome. Lots of lovely personal touches in the cottage made us feel at home. Hot tub was amazing, beds were so comfortable and we could see so many stars through the sky lights. Nothing, our stay was perfect.
- Anne (10/5): - The cottage was lovely, clean and just the perfect get away when you need some peace. There is a few other hoses in the row and disnt even know they were there. Was lovely to watch the sheep and lambs from the window or the gate at the field. Would definitely visit again.
- Katharine (9/5): A super place to stay! - Exceptionally clean. Little touches made us feel very welcome. Everything was there that we needed. The hot-tub was a delightful luxury! The hosts were great at communicating beforehand to arrange things.
- Anne (10/5): - This rural cottage is a quiet and tranquil delight.
Its decorated so perfectly, the beds are comfortable.
The art work was a personal touch of the family which I loved as an amateur artist myself.
The added extras provided by the owners were greatly appreciated by my mum and sister.
Overall we had a fantastic time and being able to relax in the hot tub was fantastic.
The wildlife was amazing to wake up to in the morning and everything was a couple minutes drive from the cottage.

- Martapritchard (10/5): What a lovely cottage! The hosts went above and beyond! Thank you for our lovely treats on arrival -
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Emilia (10/5): Easter break - We stayed at the place over Easter weekend. Everything was just great. The cottage is situated in a quiet and beautiful location but within easy access to some fantastic attractions. The property was clean and tidy with access to a very private garden and hot tub. There is everything in the property that you might need even for a longer stay, such as washing machine, dishwasher, and grill facility.
Rooms are nicely decorated, and there is a fireplace for cooler nights. This is a very romantic and peaceful place that anyone can easily enjoy.
The owners are friendly , attentive, and easy to communicate. The extra touches such as welcoming bootle of Proseco and delicious biscuits made our time in the cottage even more special.
We will be booking the place in the future 100%.
- Lorna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Douglas (10/5): Even during storm Ashley this place was so cozy. We are already looking at dates for returning. - Hosts were tremendous and really helpful with information on things for us to take the kids to. We didn’t book for long enough!!
- Joyce (8/5): Very good -
- Karaman (7/5): All the positives far way out any negatives and would recommend the beautiful cottage - A pretty and well maintained small cottage with everything you need. Lots of local country walks and beautiful scenery. A complementary bottle off Prosecco and chocolate on arrival which was a nice touch. Tasteful decor and the hot tub was relaxing. The fridge freezer is a bit on the small side as we arrived with lots of fresh food due to us staying for 5 days and struggled to fit things in. The kitchen is quite small but it does have everything you need. The 2 seater and 2 single chairs were not the most comfortable, particularly noticeable when we were rained in for 1 day.
There does need to be a black out blind in the bedrooms as it does get very bright in the morning.
- Hichem (10/5): Amazing experience. The lodge has everything you need to enjoy your stay. - The lodge is well equipped for an enjoyable stay. It is very clean and has a superb decent garden with an amazing hot-tub. The location is very quiet and green but within a short drive from Castle Douglas. There is nothing to dislike about the lodge. We can only thank the host for the great efforts and wish all the best to their immaculate efforts to make their guests enjoy a great experience.
- Rose (9/5): Beautiful cottage with lovely personal touches - lovely rural setting, outside Castle Douglas. -
- Jan (8/5): Very good - Liked the hot tub and quiet location Blackout blinds in the bedroom would have been essential as I didn’t like being woken at 4:30am! More comfortable seating would have been appreciated.
- Lisa (10/5): Getway - Absolutely loved the little cute details throughout the cottage making it feel homely hot tub is obvious plus Nothing
- Anonymous (10/5): Great little place, clean, had everything we needed. - Very clean, had everything we needed and more Couldn’t fault the property in any way
