Guest Reviews
- Lyndsey (8/5): Relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable! - Very quaint, cute cottage. Had everything you need for a little getaway. Very clean, very well thought out. Particularly loved the plates, mugs and bowls and that things like sponges, washing up liquid, hand wash and kitchen roll were provided.
Big walk in shower and gorgeous garden. Very quiet and picturesque! For me and my friend this was ideal but the stairs were very steep and if I’d booked this for me and my mum, she would have had a problem getting upstairs. The bathroom was downstairs, something to be aware of.
- Mowat (10/5): Quaint English Cottage - Amazing cottage in a peaceful location.
I had to work while I was there and the WiFi was super fast.
The owners were very helpful and responsive and the cottage had everything I needed.
Nice big bathroom, fully equipped kitchen and very comfortable sofa.
Sky TV was a bonus.
Will definitely come again.
- Katy (10/5): Lovely cottage and location, would definitely recommend 😊 - Blackbird Cottage is a really beautiful place to stay, everything we needed, compact and bijou. Easy parking, stunning quiet location but easy to reach all surrounding places. We will definitely check availability next time we are out this way. There was nothing to dislike.
- Jane (9/5): Lovely cottage, beautiful setting and lovely hosts. - Location is lovely. Quaint and quiet.
Beautiful garden. New well equipped kitchen and new bathroom.
Comfy sofa. Quick to heat up and cosy.
Pig and waffle breakfast was fabulous and short walk away. Be aware is downstairs bathroom and sidewinder stairs if not so agile.
Fine for us!!
- Alisha (10/5): I loved it and will definitely be booking again for Bussiness and Personnal - Full of character, quirky and peaceful with a cozy home feel
- Jane (8/5): Lovely cottage for 2 people and an interesting area to explore - Lovely cottage, recently decorated and with a new kitchen and bathroom. Easy and helpful contact with the host to arrange access to the keys, and directions to the property. Some essentials left (milk, tea, coffee, biscuits), which was very welcome as no shop nearby. Lovely to be able to sit out on the garden furniture to enjoy the sun. We did some amazing walks from the property. Very interesting area to explore. Steep stairs - but we got use to them! Downstairs bathroom (should have noticed that from the photos on the listing), I think the shower lacks water pressure as it ‘pulses’. No local shop/pub so need to go prepared.
- WJA (10/5): Absolute Gem - Lovely little cottage with a beautiful garden in a calm countryside location. Fab hosts who provide everything you could possibly need. Biggest bonus is that the place is genuinely dog friendly and my girl loved it. I had hoped to try the local pub but it wasn't open during my stay (start of the week)
- Julie (10/5): -
- Andrew (10/5): -
- Sarah (9/5): Picture perfect cottage, had a lovely weekend. - It’s in a charming village and picture perfect. The gardens enclosed and large and would be lovely in summer. The cottage heats up quickly. Lots of extras in cupboards to make your stay more comfortable. Easy parking. The bathroom downstairs but I knew about it and there’s nothing that can be done that being said it’s a good size. The stairs are a bit steep.
- Tree (10/5): Will definitely be returning - A beautiful little home from home, so cosy and fully equipped, beds and sofa really comfortable. So peaceful and perfect base for visiting friends in the area.
- Colin (9/5): Very good - Excellent location; great village; convenient for our purposes
- Suzanna (10/5): - A lovely little cottage perfect for a weekend getaway!
- Katie (10/5): Perfect in every way! - Absolutely beautiful little cottage. Comfortable and had everything I needed. Hosts were great! So peaceful and quiet! Already booked another stay. Nothing I didn’t like at all.
- David (9/5): Beautiful, quiet, comfortable cottage in idyllic village excellently hosted. - A pretty cottage in a beautiful and very quiet village location. The property is beautifully maintained to a high standard, has a well equipped kitchen, top notch clean bathroom, a cosy lounge with a comfy sofa (nicer than the one pictured), Wi-Fi and television all good too. A longer than expected pretty garden with lawn at the end, well secure enough for our dog to enjoy. We didn’t use the attractive decking area but would have if staying longer. Enjoyed walking our dog around the village with some interesting old history and WW2 US airforce history to take in including the impressive memorial where the runway was. Upfront communication was first rate and much appreciated. Nice bonus welcome pack too. Thankyou. Definitely recommended by us. Only thing to mention is we are a tall family and it is a quite small cottage. In no way was that an issue for us - we loved the place but just had to remember to duck the beam in the lounge and door !
A steep narrow few bottom stairs fine for us but maybe worth knowing about for others.
No negatives. Just things to be aware of. Blackbird Cottage exceeded our expectation for a perfect short stay.
- johnv41 (10/5): - The cosy cottage All good
- Kelvin (10/5): Brilliant host fantastic accommodation beautiful location - 10/10 with everything
- Joanne (10/5): Lovely stay in a gorgeous cosy cottage. -
- Samantha (9/5): - Cottage was idyllic, lovely location, and the host was fantastic with great communication. The kitchen facilities were great and the sofa was really comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay! As others have mentioned, the water pressure was a little low within the shower!
- Varya (10/5): - We stayed at this lovely cottage for two nights, and it was a wonderful experience. The atmosphere in the cottage is cozy and inviting, and the cottage itself is beautiful, with some historic features like a straw roof. The kitchen is very well equipped, and as we like to cook, this made our stay even more enjoyable. The host is super nice, attentive, and welcoming—we asked for a late check out, and she was happy to accommodate us. Overall, a truly wonderful experience, we will definitely be coming back.
- lee (9/5): Visiting the grandkids - All spot on. We have stayed there before and will again. Great location and property Only downside is the water pressure is quite low but it didn't impact us too much
- Gary (10/5): Super helpful host - peaceful stay - 2nd time. -
- Victoria (10/5): - The whole thing The shower was not to poqerful
- Sabine (10/5): Perfektes Häuschen - Die Lage in einem kleinen englischen Dorf. Es gibt leider keinen Bus.
- Rachel (10/5): Beautiful cottage in lovely village, very welcoming and had everything we needed. - The cottage is situated in an idyllic village not far from Kettering. The owner sent us very detailed info on how to find the place. We also were welcomed with tea/coffee/sugar/milk/biscuits etc. The cottage was spotless and had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. Have already booked it again as it suited our needs perfectly. The surrounding countryside is wonderful. We didn't use the village pub/restaurant but it looked nice. We did have dinner at a place called the Red Lion at Cranford only a couple of miles away. Lovely food and surroundings. Excellent place and highly recommended. Nothing. Some people have mentioned the downstairs bathroom, but this is detailed so can't see why anyone would go if that was a problem to them. Steps are very steep to be fair but fine for most able-bodied folk as long as you take care. But it's an ancient old cottage so what do people expect! If you want modern, go to a Premier Inn.
- Alison (10/5): A little piece of heaven. Perfect for a quiet relaxing stay. - I have just spent 4 wonderful nights in this idyllic cottage. It is so quiet and peaceful. I took my small dog and it has a big fenced in garden so no worries about her getting out. Inside it just got better and better. Beautifully laid out rooms and it was spotless. It was very well equipped all through. The bed was extremely comfortable and the bedding had a fabulous fresh smell and feel all the time. I could go on and on but I can certainly recommend this cottage. You will not be disappointed. Lee was so helpful, a perfect host. There are some lovely walks in Grafton Underwood and the people ( if you do see anybody) are very friendly and helpful. I hope to be going again at some time. Nothing
- Daniel Schofield (10/5): - Nice and quiet location .nice history to walk around and pig and waffle pub was nice No local shop
- Susan (10/5): - Lovely quiet location
Clean and comfortable cottage
- ANDREW (9/5): Perfectly located and unusually luxurious for our favourite festival this year -
- Nolan (10/5): Exceptional - By far the best communication we have ever received
- Gary (10/5): A tranquil cottage with a helpful host -
- graham (9/5): most enjoyable - lovely little cottage, good parking no loo or bathroom upstairs
- Pauline (10/5): Excellent - Beautifully clean and well equipped. Gorgeous garden Caution advised for those who cannot climb stairs as these are very old and steep due to age of property and bathroom downstairs. We are a family of over 6 footers so also had to watch heads on doors. Added to the fun
- Lorena (9/5): Cottage incantevole - Luogo tranquillo e pittoresco. Il proprietario è stato gentile e disponibile. Il cottage era pulito e in ordine. Bagno e cucina molto comodi. Il materasso per noi era un po’ scomodo, ma credo sia una questione di gusti ed abitudini ☺️.
- Linsey (10/5): Perfect little cottage - It was a beautiful cottage. Spotlessly clean, lovely location. Private and peaceful. Nothing, it was perfect
- Claire (10/5): Amazing ❤️ - Beautiful little cottage in great peaceful location and host was very helpful before and throughout stay and even let us check out a bit later which was great for us would definitely recommend and would visit again loved the very friendly Beautiful local cat that visited us also 😊 everything we needed was at property including extras like chocolate biscuits 😊 Nothing at all to not like
- Anna (10/5): Fabulous… beautiful cottage and would definitely return - Cottage was lovely . Well equipped and perfect for a few days break. Outside area was lovely . And nice seating provided . Village was very quiet and had a lovely pub/restaurant.. would definitely recommend pig and waffle . Host Lee was great , communication great and all the info provided that was needed Low beams for your head .. so if your tall be prepared have to duck a bit .. but would still go back
- Jon (10/5): Business stay - Very pleased to find a real gem. Very comfy, very quiet, everything you could need. I stayed due to work commitments in the area, and it was ideal. Nothing, but I would say the doorways are low, so mind your head, and the stairs are steep.
- Malcolm (10/5): Lovely and comfortable base! Cottage was well equipped and host was fantastic! Thank you so much for the tea coffee and - Very peaceful and quaint cottage
- Karen (10/5): A welcoming, pretty cottage in a lovely location! - Located in a quiet, pretty village (which has a bar/restaurant), we loved this cottage with its well equipped kitchen, good shower, nice towels and easy parking. The host kindly supplied milk, tea, coffee and biscuits - a great place to stay whilst visiting family. Would definitely recommend.
- Sally (10/5): Exceptional -

- John (10/5): A perfect and well equipped cottage in a stunning location with easy access to a fabulous pub - A perfect and well equipped cottage in a beautiful rural village setting.
Great local walks and a fabulous pub serving great food only a short stroll away.
Really good outside space which is very secure for dogs. Nothing to complain about
- Harry (10/5): The first 24 hrs in the cottage I was poorly but the warmth and cosines helped enormously. Although we are in our 80’s w - The old English feel, the lovely village setting, the warmth of the cottage, the very modern kitchen and bathroom. Something which obviously cannot be changed but, as a geriatric I found the stairs needed a bit of thinking about. Coming down the stairs backwards solved any tricky negotiating. The lady at the end of the lane was always sold out of fresh eggs🙁
- Sunjay (10/5): Excellent stay at this amazing cottage! - The host was super friendly and approachable. The cottage had a lovely stash of coffee beans, instant coffee, sugar and tea bags. We were not short on any of the basics that we have now taken for granted that we simply bring our own. The cleanliness was top notch and even behind the scenes it was clean. The grass was trimmed and the enclosed garden was loved by my small dog.
The village is super quiet and exactly what we wanted from our long weekend break.
We found some amazing walks both local and within 15 drive from the village. There are no negatives - exactly as described so have no hesitation in highly recommending this cottage.
- Lee (10/5): Weekend break - Nice setting very quiet. Well set up with great wireless and facilities. Good dog walks locally and easy access to Kettering for the shops
- Lauren (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kannan (9/5): Beautiful rural retreat thatched cottage surpasses expectations - Charmingl cottage in a beautiful quiet location set back in this pleasant rural village. All facilities you need in a home from home as a base to explore the area and an excellent pub within 5 minutes walk, which specialises in tapas.
Mobile data and mobile phone reception is poor outside the cottage but the WiFi is excellent inside property. A good excuse to put phone down and enjoy dinner at the Pig and Whistle.
- Helen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kathryn (9/5): A well appointed cottage and great host - Cosy cottage, great village location Nothing
- Zac (10/5): Good Location, Perfect cottage, great value for money. - The location of the property was why we booked this specific cottage.

Visited Lyvedon Manor NT for a nice walk; Oundle, a lovely market town with its famous school; Geddington with its Eleanor Cross and a cheeky drive through the Ford beside the Bridge. Nice local church in Grafton Underwood itself and thatched cottages everywhere!
- Emma (10/5): Great, just what we were looking forward. - The cottage is lovely. The only thing for us was the pillows in the beds were lumpy, but we like a firm pillow.
- Andy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sophie (10/5): Exceptional - Lots of little extras like tea, coffee and milk that homes don't always provide. Very informative host and lovely little cottage. Nothing

The cottage contained everything needed for a relaxing break and the owner was easily contactable if needed. Nothing to dislike.
- Kevin (9/5): Superb -

- Kathryn (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent communication from Lee. Very welcoming and comfortable. Local pub excellent. Very convenient for local historic houses.
- Rachel (9/5): Beautiful cottage, quiet location, helpful host - It was our second stay at Blackbird Cottage & it was just as great as our first! Beautiful little cottage with good amenities & a large garden that was handy for our child to run around and let off some steam! I liked everything, only one small comment that an additional shelf of some sort in the bathroom would be helpful to store toiletries bag etc.

- Olga (8/5): Very good -

- Linda (10/5): It was a special pleasure to stay in such a beautiful Northamptonshire village. - Blackbird Cottage is a delightful thatch in a quintessential English village. We had the added bonus of an excellent Tapas bar within very easy walking distance. To be honest - who would ever have thought that a restaurant with a Spanish Tapas menu would thrive in such a small village - but thrive it does. We visited it on two evenings and both times were lucky to get a table.
If you do not know this little area of Northamptonshire then you are in for a treat. Sudborough, Lowick, Aldwinkle , Wadenhoe, Twywell. Woodford , Geddington ( with the most perfectly preserved Elanor Cross) and Twywell, to name but a few are just perfect gems of English villages. They are reminiscent of the busy Cotswold hotspots of Bourton etc, but on a much smaller, more intimate scale and without the wearisome hoards of tourists. Slightly, very slightly further afield, Oundle and Fotheringhay should not be missed. If you are keen on visiting stately manors then the area is busy with them. This holiday we visited- Kirby Hall and Lyveden New Bield. On another jaunt to the area we visited Boughton House - truly gorgeous Next time , Rockingham Castle is on the list .
The Nene river meanders its joyful way throughout.
Twywell Hill and dales is a great area for dog walking - again unspoilt and uncrowded!
Blackbird Cottage has comfortable beds, an attractive array of kitchen crockery, a excellent shower, a sweet cottage garden and very comfortable garden furniture. Hard to say.... The stairs are tricky at the bottom rung..... but that is absolutely all. If you keep your wits about you, all will be well, as it was for us!
- Jane (10/5): Lee thought of everything and the property has an excellent layout. Thank you. -
- Jackie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Frances (9/5): Great value cottage break - Lovely character cottage fully renovated with all mod cons. Exceptionally clean with every facility you’d need thought of. Great patio area and enclosed garden perfect for our two small dogs who enjoyed the space outside. Great communication from Lee with detailed instructions to find property, he was on hand for any queries. Really steep stairs weren’t a problem for us but could be an issue for anyone with limited mobility.
- Rethenwyn (9/5): Superb - The cottage was lovely and peaceful, well equiped and set in a beautiful location. It was very clean and the host was extremely friendly and accomodating. Many thanks!

- Zoe (10/5): Amazing wonderful stay with an excellent host. - Beautiful property with stunning scenery. There was a noice from actors the fields that you could hear now and then but not an issue at all didn’t keep me awake. Shower could be more powerful but again very happy.
