Guest Reviews
- Robert (10/5): If you’re looking for something exclusive and affordable - Wonderful place and exceptional building. Nothing
- Karen (7/5): Pleasant. Beautiful location and Castle. - The Castle itself. Interesting and we were able to explore as no functions on at the time. Rigorous check in. On line and on arrival.
Average afternoon tea. Very expensive, pork and apricot sausage roll missing. When queried the nice lady explained we had extra finger sandwiches. And although my husband and I both had individual menus. Three of the mini cakes had to be cut in half. Hard scones. Not special or value, £74 for both of us. Definitely not luxury.
- Julie (9/5): Great Castle location - Location and staff excellent. Chicken caesar salad was served with wrong lettuce in leaves rather than shredded and 2 chicken legs! instead of chopped chicken breast. Huge portions
- Januchowski (3/5): Not suitable for someone with mobility problems. - Good breakfast. No lounge area
- Frances (9/5): Outstandibg hotel - very atmospheric - I loved Peckferton. This was my 4th stay and i noticed some very tasteful refurbishments. The vaulted bar is very atmospheric. The only thing i didnt like was the intrusive music played at Breakfast
- Karolina (7/5): Ciekawy ale na raz - Bardzo wygodne łóżko.
Wanna i prysznic w łazience.
Klimat
Zniszone fotele.
Kontakt zrobił zwarcie w mojej ładowarce i lekko ją stopił.
- Natalie (3/5): -
- Christine (8/5): - Room was clean and comfortable. Charging more for some breakfast items.
- Francine (1/5): - I loved the old fashioned type of building I was overcharged on my bill when checking out
- James (4/5): Fantastic location, stunning castle, average room. - Stunning location and stunning building. Room smelled and was dirty in the bathroom.
- Vic (9/5): -
- Aleksandra (10/5): - A beautiful castle with amazing internet and wonderful service.
- Paul (10/5): -
- Samantha (10/5): Excellent service especially in wine cellar bar - So beautiful Nothing
- Julia (6/5): Great other than no food options other than fine dining - Location great. Staff all so nice and helpful. Wine bar is a highlight. Price we paid was very good for surroundings. A man talking outside our room door at 4am. No where to have drinks other than wine bar. Only place for food is fine dinning at £60 a head. No room service food options other than cold sandwiches. Needs more food option's!! Bar food like the last time we stayed would make it perfect!
- anna (10/5): - Absolutely fantastic room and castle Shower gel / hand soap..overpowering smell. Had to request a bar of soap.
- Carnall (9/5): Loved our stay it feels quite special. - Extremely impressive. Did a Land Rover experience which is run from the castle, so really convenient. Staff generally lovely and helpful. Had food in the Brasserie very average.
- Thorne (1/5): Terrible - The bath of dirty with grime stains on it , my partner had to clean it her self , rust spots around the plug hole and also a brown stain on the outer part of the sink . Bed was not comfy at all , plenty of noise surrounding the room and a egg like odor in the bedroom . 11.39 pm we packed up and left for home ,never to return again , asked for my money back but no response at all so they can keep it . I know for sure I won't be spending my hard earned money to stay again , really nice building but I'm afraid this hotel business does not match such a beautiful building . Nothing
- Tracy (4/5): A sleepless and disappointing stay — would not recommend. - The location is absolutely stunning, and the staff serving breakfast were attentive. The food was well cooked and tasty. We were really disappointed with our stay. The room we were given was tired the toilet seat was loose and the room itself was above the kitchen area so we could hear a constant humming noise from a generator all night. The mattress was okay but the pillows were flat and uncomfortable — they were clearly old, completely flat, and really needed replacing. Between the noise and the pillows, neither of us slept and we were exhausted the next day.
When we checked the bedding before leaving, we found the mattress protector was stained, which was unacceptable. In addition, the bed was uncomfortable because of the pillows and we were shocked to see the mattress cover was stained in places.
We informed the receptionist in the morning and the response of the reception staff was, “I thought the noise coming from the kitchen gets switched off at night, sorry,” and regarding the bedding stains she said she would get the cleaning staff to check it — and that was it. I told her that no paying guest should ever be put in that room and that we would be sure to do a review. I had stayed at the hotel previously and it was so disappointing to be put in a room like that after enjoying our last stay which was good.
It was clear to us that the receptionist didn’t really care, given she had booked us in and was aware that the kitchen generates the humming noise. I’m pretty sure we weren’t the first to complain about this room and won’t be the last. The noise, lack of sleep, and the cleanliness issues completely spoiled our stay and our plans. A very disappointing stay — would not recommend at all.
- Sandie (10/5): Fabulous stay with excellent food and service - Beautiful setting, castle was amazing. Superb food, drinks and service Wasn’t too keen on our bedroom (Alice) not to my taste
- Kari (10/5): -
- Emma (8/5): -
- Chris (3/5): Disturbing wedding music on what should have been a peaceful relaxing evening - Wedding event on which was extremely noisy right below our room 302.
There was no courtesy notification upon booking that the venue was holding a disturbing wedding event with extreme music until midnight
Unable to sleep or obtain any peaceful relaxation in the facility due to the event.
- mike (8/5): -
- June Ann (7/5): Nice location and building. Restaurant lacks character. - Beautiful building, great parking and friendly staff. The cellar bar was nice. The restaurant lacked warmth. It needs some subdued lighting and some nice linen tablecloths. In such a beautiful building it felt like we were eating in a cafeteria.
- Janice (7/5): Would have given 5-stars had it not been for the obnoxious smell coming from the bathroom - We were glad there wasn't a wedding on as we might not have had the chance to explore the castle, which is fabulous.
All of the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was very good and lots of coffee/tea refills.
Comfortable bed and the best pillows we've ever had in any hotel.
The cellar bar was very pleasant.
Sadly the restaurant was fully booked, which might have been a good thing as we had a fabulous meal at The Pheasant nearby. Watch out, anyone with a low sporty car...
The speed bumps entering the castle grounds are high and hit the exhaust going up to the hotel.
Obnoxious drainage/sewage smell coming from the bathroom. We were in the "Bickerton" room.
The smell got worse as the evening went on.
Lucky my husband finally managed to fix it very early in the morning by running some water in the bath. He thinks stagnant water gets heated up. Every time the bathroom door opened it wafted into the bedroom, horrible.
I mentioned this to the reception staff who seemed embarrassed, I now see there were other reviews with similar feedback, so obviously this is an on-going issue.
I wasn't looking for a discount or anything, I just wanted to let them know how we resolved the issue.
The response was "That's what we recommend people do". Really, can you imagine telling your guests as they arrive "please can run some water in the bath so you don't get a sewage smell in your room" - this should be part of the daily cleaning process.
The cellar bar sadly didn't have most of the whiskeys on their list, shame.
The continental part of the breakfast area was very small which lead to queuing.
- Lucy (7/5): Gorgeous location, cool room, perhaps some more amenities and facilities that could really make this worth the price poi - Stunning grounds, we stayed in the turret room which was very atmospheric and a cool experience. The staff were lovely and helpful and the bed was comfy with great sheets and pillow. The breakfast was delicious and generally this was a great venue. For a luxury accommodation there were a few things I thought were lacking e.g we were in an extremely high (about 4 flights of stairs inc a winding staircase? No lift obviously given the building!) turret room and no one offered to help us with our suitcases/ to show us the way when it was a labyrinth. We struggled around for a while. In the room there was only 1 packet of biscuits, only normal tea and very little of it, quite a few of the breakfast items have a £5/6 surplus. There was not much lighting and the room was pretty dingy when not daylight and only one useable plug socket (which if in use came at the expense of the main lamp and the kettle) in the whole room and not near the beds or the desk, the bathroom was pretty basic too. It’s obviously a beautiful location but I do think that compared to similar price points there are a few more touches that could be thought about.
- Adrian (6/5): - Venue is fantastic Brasserie restaurant quite poor !! Attention to detail
Poor
- Alan (9/5): -
- Holland (10/5): comfortable and a joy to explore the building - very good and the surroundings nothing comes to mind
- Lewis (10/5): -
- Sarah (10/5): -
- katrina (9/5): Highly recommend - Beautiful setting, very friendly staff, spotlessly clean everywhere, tasty breakfast
- Samantha (10/5): Brilliant and good value for money - It was immaculate, fabulous room, bar area and food and the staff was attentive and professional. Nothing. It is a 10/10 venue
- Roy (9/5): -
- Gill (10/5): Fabulous! The experience was like staying in a castle you visit and are unable to stay in and wonder how it be to stay t - Beautiful castle in a fabulous location, highly recommend.
- Mandy (10/5): Great stay in a castle - Lovely location, great room and food. Excellent customer service.
- Hanna (10/5): -
- ivan (8/5): great place great location poor food - great bar expensive but nice brekfast was ok evening meal very average had a steak just fat spoke to the waitress all i got was i will let the chef know and nothing else very disappointing
- Aubrey (7/5): Great location with a few communication issues - Gorgeous location, fabulously grand and very clean. Amazing last-minute deal. Delicious breakfast. Strong WiFI My room took about five minutes to walk to and there were at least ten sets of stairs. I'm fit and healthy but with a suitcase, a briefcase and a handbag to carry, it wasn't a great experience. Travelling back down the two spiral staircases with luggage was quite precarious. I was in the tower and the room was lovely but I feel there should have been a warning. Even the slightest of mobility issues would have made the room impossible to reach. Reception was very smooth but there is an unusual process at breakfast as you wait to be seated at the top of the stairs - I waited for Ben who was mad busy but other staff who seemed less busy let me stand there for about five minutes...I was then seated and again waited for Ben to take my drink order. Poor Ben. A bit of teamwork is needed in the restaurant.
- Stephen (10/5): Lovely surroundings and stay - Room & facilities were top notch Wasn’t impressed with the food in the brasserie
- Carl (10/5): -
- Gavin (7/5): Worth a visit as it’s not very often you get to stay in a castle. - Great building It was cold. I know it’s January but had to sit in the wine seller bar with our coats on.
- Michael (9/5): A simple overnight stop turned into a quite amazing experience! - Peckforton Castle is a wonderful building. Our room in a turret was very comfortable save a minor hiccup with heating.
Breakfast was served in a very well appointed room, an excellent breakfast.
All staff were welcoming and cheerful and helped make our stay special.
- Lois (9/5): Enjoyed staying in a castle - Interesting decor. Beautiful lighting and antique furniture Slight smell of cigarettes in communal areas on ground floor but not in our bedroom. Ie reception, lounge.
Didnt like my breakfast. I ordered porridge and it wasnt cooked properly. I think it had been soaked and then warmed up or not cooked for long enough as the oats tasted raw.
- Matilda (9/5): - The dinner and breakfast were delicious. It was lovely to have a view of the castle grounds while eating breakfast in the morning.
- Michelle (10/5): -
- Richard (9/5): -
- Williams (10/5): - Everything Everything great views
- Simon (10/5): -
- Margaret (7/5): Staff amazing, food was wonderful, very clean and amazing property - Lovely property . Historical detail Notification about the function under my room would have improved the stay as I would have taken ear plugs
- Vanessa (7/5): Overall a lovely night away. We came for the taster menu and we weren’t disappointed with that - A beautiful property in a wonderful setting
The taster menu was fabulous and good value, so was the wine pairing Only one dark and cold bar open.
Poor hospitality tray.
Even though breakfast had to be ordered didn’t seem freshly cooked - tough bacon, rubbery egg etc as if it had been under heat lamps.
- Phil (10/5): Simply Magical - The castle and surroundings were perfect and a totally unique experience, the staff were friendly and very professional Absolutely nothing
- Pauline (9/5): It was a great experience - The food was exceptional and not that badly priced (although we didn’t use the fine dining restaurant. Would have been nice to have a spa area tbh as we only stayed 1 day - enjoyed the atmosphere and castle immensely but not sure what we would have done with more days I know it can’t be helped as it’s part and parcel of the castle but l’m a bit claustrophobic and we were right at the top in room 402 with very small windows. I felt bad but asked if there were any other room available even though ours was a lovely room.
- Marie (8/5): We had to Change rooms as the one we were allocated had not heating . But they were excellent they upgraded us straight - The property was stunning

- Ian (8/5): Pleasmat stay in a castle - Ambience
Pretty castle
Nice room Very average breakfast
- Adam (8/5): Room 202 - Beautiful location, receptionist was lovely showed us around some of the decorated rooms/ great hall and the wine cellar, stayed in room (202) was spacious and very cozy. Not really much to say could do with a dehumidifier in the bathroom to help with the damp around the window walls/ the radiator didn't turn on in the bathroom
- Kenny (10/5): -
- JOANNE (9/5): -
- Mary (8/5): I enjoyed it very much and would definitely return if in the area again. - The breakfast was cooked well. The castle was very grand made all the better the way it was decorated for Christmas. Staff were polite and helpful. I arrived at night and it was quite difficult to find even with the sat nav. It would’ve been better if there was a large sign which was lit up at night time. There were some very large potholes on the road leading up to the car park so you had to weave in and out to avoid them. The car park was quite dark and muddy after the rain.
- Brown (9/5): -
- Eirlys (7/5): Worth a visit just to see the castle. - The castle itself is fabulous. Some decor was tired and construction work was being carried out in some corridors but still very interesting.
Restaurant staff were lovely and polite and the food was very nice. However, the included breakfast was very poor when it was served cold and rushed. Due to a discrepency between booking.com and what the castle actually had available, the first room allocated was not as ordered and freezing. The staff managed to move us to a 4poster bedroom as per our order, which was much warmer. However, an additional payment had to be paid. Decor was tired although could be in keeping with the castle. - furniture with water marks and raised veneer on cabinets? No information relating to breakfast times etc nor any historical information was in the room. Two A4 sheets with short historical summary and castle map were supplied on request but no restaurant times were included. Disabled parking was disappointing as only 1 space was allocated near reception. When we visited a large van was in that space with no permit. However, there was an area used by Landrover nearby that was blocked off by bollards which could have doubled as disabled parking when no Landrover events are live.

- Ioana (8/5): A good stay - Character Breakfast
- Julie (10/5): - The atmosphere
- colin (8/5): -
- Michael (9/5): -
- Mark (5/5): Would never visit again - Location Food very overpriced and not as described in the menu, you can get better in Weatherspoons. They also take every opportunity to charge you extra for everything (£25 for checking in 15mins early) leaking toilet ,torn bedding and for a Sunday night at £250! Money completely wasted! Trust me I could go on and on.
- Ian (9/5): Great place, fantastic wedding venue - Amazing place, great location, nice staff Slightly early check out than usual
- richard (8/5): Nice stay, food in restaurant wasn’t particularly great, breakfast was decent - The setting was nice and it was much better than a boring travelodge No heating on in room when we arrived so it was freezing and took ages to warm up slightly,
Heating also switched off in the night despite radiators turned up to max
- Michael (9/5): - Location and the fact it's a historical castle! Breakfast a bit naff.
- Stephen (10/5): Fantasy - History Nothing
- John (10/5): fantastic location and food. Exceptionally good value - Breakfast was beautiful, staff more than helpful, courteous and friendly. Hotel super in general. distance from parking to the reception
- Lisa (9/5): -
- Dave (2/5): Disappointing, even more so given the reputation and fact they are a wedding venue - Location I was incredibly disappointed at overall experience.
I had booked the one night stay to propose to my girlfriend with every intention of us having the wedding there so it would always be that special place brought it all together.
Unfortunately this mornings disappointment with the shower not having any hot water (literally only cold water) and the bath shower head being the complete opposite and almost to the point of scalding hot, put a complete dampener on the stay and the prospect of using the venue at present. We did highlight to the reception but as we were booked for a breakfast slot and had the check out time we just had to leave.
Apologies for sending this note but I wouldn’t want anyone else to experience this
- Sophie (10/5): Amazing experience! - Beautiful hotel, amazing experience, lovely staff, delicious food, fantastic service all round! Excellent value for money! Nothing.
- Talibah (8/5): Fabulous would definitely return. - Breakfast was lovely, fresh produce. All the staff I interacted with were polite and kind and I was given a little tour. Overall lovely stay and beautiful surroundings. My room was by a laundry room so loud banging doors in the night woke me up a few times and the pillows were to soft for my personal liking.
- Barnett (10/5): - Lovely place very clean food very nice staff very friendly and helpful Nothing
- valerie (7/5): - Food in 1851 nice Rooms need upgrading ,poor heating didnt like most of the castle grounds not avaiable to walk round so doesnt make the most of views
- Kim (10/5): -
- Talita (10/5): All excellent! - The hotel is beautiful and has the feel of a castle. We had dinner at the Brasserie and the food was lovely. Our breakfast the next morning was also excellent. Nothing, all was impecable.
- Thomas James (8/5): - Breakfast was disappointing for the price. The shower wasn't hot enough.
- Alan (7/5): Very Good value to be staying in a grand castle but did lack coffee etc refreshments. - Beautiful building and surroundings , very quirky with incredible architecture.
The midweek offer price was very good for such a grand location. Food in the Brasserie restaurant was good quality and service, apart from limited choice, and very limited vegetarian meals. Was a little hard to understand the Indian receptionist English diction.
And was looking forward to breakfast but found was too late start time of 8am and wouldn’t offer a 7.30 for us. I am sure 8am is too late for many guests who have events etc to attend.
Wasn’t even offered coffee etc, and no coffee/tea facilities in the rooms i found surprisingly poor.
- Stephanie (10/5): Fabulous stay - Our room decor was beautiful and comfortable . Decor throughout was very classic and had a lovely ambiance. Nothing to dislike.
- michael (9/5): -
- Carol (5/5): Disappointed - The location is lovely Check in was poor the room was very tired carpet was dirty bath was scratched and stained bathroom tiles were cracked the food in the brassiere was poor
- p (9/5): -
- Jill (3/5): A small break from hell for my poor son! - Location lovely, breakfast very nice. My son had a accident in his room, bad lacerations to his foot from the bedroom carpet to the bathroom on 20th August 2025. The hotel didn't apologise until I had to send the owner of the castle a message plus photographs of my sons foot then someone offered a discount for the next stay, laughable, will not be staying their again.
Oh the small double bed in our room was awful, didn't sleep very well, had to have the fans on constantly as there was no air in the room, the one small window doesn't open very wide.
- Alan (8/5): Good value for money-staying in a castle, but a little lacking in the peronal touch in not accommodating our earlier bre - The incredible building, great quality room , warm and comfortable. Lovely surroundings. Breakfast was included, but didn’t get to sample it as only served from 8am. This in my opinion is too late , in this day and age when folks often need to be at an event or appointment. Surely they could have allowed us to have had earlier snack breakfast in the dinner area of tea/coffee toast cereals etc.
Also was no tea/ coffee making facility in rooms, as we needed to leave before 8 .. would have been nice to have at least a drink before leaving.
- Holland (9/5): -
- Paul (5/5): In short this hotel is all 'Fir coat and no underwear'. Which is a shame. - The Castle is very impressive and the grounds it sits in are beautiful. The place is peaceful and full of wildlife, we saw a lot of Pheasants on the drive up to the castle. Were told a reception that breakfast seating was limited, and that we should have booked. I was disappointed to learn this and surprised as the hotel had contacted me after booking to suggest booking in the restaurant. There was no mention of booking Breakfast. We had to pay extra for a room service breakfast and received one cup between two of us.
The room was impressive on first glance, but we soon learned that fixtures were quite dated and some damaged, carpet was tatty for example. There was a coffee pod machine in the room, but no cups or pods. All the little details that you'd expect from a hotel of this supposed calibre were missing, this carried on through the hotel.
Dinner was very nice and the food was indeed excellent. The service was below standard although the staff were helpful, it did feel a little disorganised. There were 4 sets of diners (including ourselves) in the bistro area we were and 3 out of the 4 complained about various things. I did not have the heart to complain.
- Young (9/5): Step back in Time - Quiet, forested location, well set back from road. Comfortable, roomy suite with plenty of hot water and a slipper bathtub.
Attentive staff, yummy breakfast. Not so much didn't like, but something to consider. The castle is huge and has many rooms and very long corridors and stairs. Also, like most castles, there is no lift, but assistance is available for transporting luggage.
