Guest Reviews
- Alba (6/5): Very good for the low price, great for budget travelers like myself - The dormitory cubicles were very private, wifi was good, filtered water available, locker available you have to leave a deposit for the key, clean dorms and bathroom The small puppy tied up all day and night to a post, crying at times. Staff have minimal or no English so couldn’t ask for information just basic general info
- Hari (9/5): Superb - I liked room, bed and bathroom.🤗 I liked everything.😊
- Rosnita (10/5): Perfect stay! - - Spacious and clean room
- Free drinking water
- Balcony
- Space to hang the clothes Not centrally located but not a big problem to walk
- Finn (8/5): Very good - Free drinking water Matrazes are worst in asia
- Marie (9/5): I could've stayed there for a long time :) - Very private feeling and spacious dorm beds. A bathroom in the dorm room and also in the corridor. Quiet location and nice owner. Some spiderwebs in the bed cubicle, mattress was quite hard and the bathrooms could've looked cleaner.
- Gang (8/5): Very good -
- Aleksei (9/5): Superb - wifi was rly fast. you can also pay card while checkin(with a small fee). location is not in the downtown so it makes the place pretty calm during the night. bed is comfy. owners barely speak english but still was kind with some permissions the bathroom could be better
- Lucas (9/5): Superb - Good dormitory , lovely and helpful staff ! Bathroom could be better and cleaner
- Julia (7/5): Good - It’s good for the price but it could’ve been better.
The bed was very uncomfortable, I never had such back pain before. The floor in the bathroom is always wet and it’s not very clean. The location is nice, it’s a quiet neighbourhood. They also have a cute dog.
No social area. So it’s quite difficult to make friends there.

- Alli (8/5): Quiet location, helpful staff! - The owner bent over backwards to please me and I am not hard to please however when I booked, it said I would have a balcony but unfortunately not every room has a balcony and even though the owner has put that into booking, it still shows that every room has a balcony. I came from Luang Prabang from a room that was literally the size of my twin mattress and so I was very much looking forward to an outside space. If you are booking here make sure you tell them you want a balcony so they will hold one for you. The bidet in my bathroom leaked so the owner tried to fix it. He couldn’t and disappeared and in 10 minutes was back with a new one. The location is excellent but it was hard for the taxi driver to find the place. If I were back in Vang Vieng I would probably stay here again.
- Sarah (9/5): Superb - such a nice clean guesthouse especially for this price!! The 4 bed dorm basically are private rooms, with thin walls but you get your privacy so thats amazing :) location is great too, short walk to the centre only downside is the sink for the 4 bed dorm, because literally everything got wet while using it
- Maria (10/5): Definitely recommend - lovely family run guesthouse - 1. Very spacious room.
2. Very clean.
3. Friendly family run guesthouse.
4. Nice balcony.
5. Bed comfy.
6. Free drinking water.
- Luis (7/5): Good - Value for money is extremely good. The beds make noises when you turn around, however, they are comfortable. There is a free water dispenser and a convenience store is one minute away.
- Ольга (4/5): Disappointing - I liked that it was a private room. There is no trash can or box or hanger for things in the room and the fan is very flimsy, which does not cool anything. Thin cardboard walls, you can hear everyone in the hallway and dirty bed linen! The toilet is dirty and huge cracks above the door are visible to everyone and everything 🤯 no shampoo and soap and napkins in the toilet 🥲 an incomprehensible tap in which it is impossible to wash! Far from the main street and shops
- Ben (7/5): Good -
- Gabrielle (8/5): Great value for money overall but rockhard mattress. - Great location, lovely staff. Bunks are like pods, with curtains at the narrow end which offers incredible privacy. Plenty of room in the pod to store your belongings and plenty of sockets too. Loads of social seating areas with big tables for those who want it. My bed was ROCK HARD! When I saw the other reviews about this, I thought it was probably just from people who like super soft mattress and were being dramatic, but they were not joking. The mattress was literally like sleeping on a wooden plank!! It was so hard I had to have my travel pillow under my hips/back to give some cushioning and comfort.
The WiFi was not great - the signal was strong but the speed wasn't the best and I constantly got "no connection" errors when browsing the web.
This homestay has the potential to be a 10/10 if the owners would just address the mattress situation. The WiFi absolutely could be overlooked if you were able to get a comfy sleep.
- Ana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Oz (7/5): Good -
- Kali (7/5): such good value for $ - Can’t complain about much for the price. Good shower, clean, privacy curtains, and relatively quiet! Wifi works better than most places we’ve stayed. Not sure if the AC was working in our room but wasn’t too hot regardless.
- Paul (6/5): Pleasant - Good location. Average guesthouse. Staff is really helpful A bit dusty
- Jack (5/5): Passable -
- Andre (9/5): Superb -
- Keirin (9/5): Superb - The price for the space is amazing. I stayed in a double bed room and was comfortable and spacious. The staff were really helpful in getting me a good deal for the tours. I would stay here again. It’s a little far from the main strip of where all the tourists are but I didn’t really care
- Kareece (9/5): Superb - Really good value
- Isobel (9/5): Great value for money, recommend to everyone - Really nice guest house in the town. Staff were lovely and happy to help with everything, room was spacious, clean and the bed was so comfortable compared to others. Great value for money would recommend to anyone in vang vieng For the money everything was great, can’t complain
- Daniela (10/5): Really good - Nice staff and everything was clean
- Lukas (8/5): Very good - A super helpful and friendly host, he was always available and attentive, sorted us out with an amazing tour for a good price, also ordered us a tuk tuk to the train station and helped with the laundry service. The bed was quite comfy too. There was a crazy loud sound from a venue/people next door that would go up to 4am.
- Si (9/5): Superb - The 4 bedroom dormitory is better, you have your own room.......
- Tahiyyah (8/5): A good, clean guesthouse with helpful staff - Such a friendly helpful staff. I stayed in the dorms. The mattress was not the best but the location, price, and helpful staff kind of made it up for me. Outside of the staffs hands but people in the dorms were up in the middle of the night making so much inappropriate noise , I don’t understand why they did not just get a private room
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Saldivar (10/5): Exceptional - The place was clean, the bed spacious, and privacy. I had also space for doing yoga outside
- Dude (9/5): Superb -
- Paulo (8/5): Very good - Easy check in. Room matches the pictures. Big and comfortable bed. Bathroom is a little dated and could use some maintenance but the shower works and there is hot water. Wifi is good. Location is nice, not too far from the city centre and in a quiet area. They don't speak much English but with google translate you'll be fine. Free water available at any time. Also, they can arrange a pickup to the train station. There is nothing that I didn't enjoy to be honest. It was a bit loud at times in the evening because of the noise of the family and friends outside, but overall it was not a big deal.
- Philip (10/5): Love this place. - Liked everything about the place. The room is simple but clean and comfortable and the aircond and wifi both great. The bed is extremely comfortable. A quiet place but still very close to the busy main road. The owner is really helpful. And finally a room where the bathroom light is focused on the mirror so you can actually see yourself clearly in it. That's rare. Definitely one of the best places have ever stayed in when it comes to value for money.
- Ellie (7/5): For the money it is fabulous - Nice family vibe , beds were private with heavy curtain. Good location Very uncomfy beds
- Hing (10/5): Exceptional - The hostel owner is nice Nothing
- Rosie (5/5): Passable - Bed is very comfortable, strong wifi and good location I was in a room which shared a window with an outside kitchen. You cannot see out the windows because of this which limits natural light. It was very loud and staff were not considerate at all in relation to noise. A staff member was cooking/watching videos at 1am, which woke me up and illuminated the whole room. None of the powerpoints in the room worked on arrival but the staff replaced one for me (whilst I waited)
- Dexter (8/5): Very good - I had a wonderful stay in both shared and private room. I like how peaceful yet you can get beautiful view from the hostel. Staffs are awesome!

- Genese (7/5): Great stay with comfy beds. Decent WI-FI - The nicest bed I’ve slept on in awhile The alley was a bit scary only because there were two dogs who Bark at people
- Marián (10/5): Exceptional -
- Trung (7/5): The staffs were helpful, nice. Nothing negative about them. The price is good. - The location. The dorm is surprisingly cheap. Lack of information about other things, like renting a motorbike, buying bus/train tickets, etc.
- Diego (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alex (9/5): Superb - I liked the capsule like bed, a lot of privacy, like a small single room. Good location (not in the middle of the Vang Vieng party zone), host very kind even if his english is poor, very kind dogs. Nice place to extend the stay in Vang Vieng. I will surely go back there. There is a nice dog and puppies. And a little boy. In presence of his family (but the owner wasn't there), he mistreated one of the puppies and no one intervened. The puppy was screaming in pain. The whole family looked at the boy, but it was only me who finally stepped in. Please take good care of your animals.
- Lisa (9/5): perfect guesthouse - beds were soo comfy, great value for money, room was very spacious, got towels, soap & water provided and a super good laundry service. would definitely recommend! there was some really loud music next door until 10-11 pm… this of course wasn’t the guesthouse’s fault, but it made my stay a bit less comfortable.
- Gysel (9/5): Superb - Very clean, staff is helpful when we need, quiet place close to everything in town.
- Daniela (7/5): Good - The Owner was very kind thay have also a lot of puppys so cute.
The room was big and clean you have a lot of space. The AC didn't work properly. It was realy hot in the room.
- Gek (7/5): Convenient location, helpful staff, spacious room and good wifi - A short walk from where we alighted from the bus from Vientiane and quite near to the night market. The room and the bed are spacious. The en-suite toilet is also big and the hot shower is good. Laundry is charged per kg and the price is reasonable. The staff are willing to help although most can't communicate in English without a tranlation app. A water dispenser is conveniently located. Wifi is good and fast. The directions the host gave us were not suitable for luggage with wheels. Our room is on the ground floor and the big table for guests and staff to dine, gather and smoke is right outside our windows. It would be nice if the staff could smoke a little less frequently there.
- Warren (10/5): Exceptional - Very helpful staff. Good quiet place to hang out Nothing
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- Phil (10/5): Exceptional -
- Camille (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing for the price
Very nice and helpful family
Good internet for online meetings
- Tuyet8329 (9/5): Good address - Really good hostel next to the center but still really calm ! The dormitory is great and you can have your own space. Loved my stay there !
- Georgia (8/5): Great value - Really good value for money. Nice, clean big room. You can see the mountains from the window. Hosts are very helpful - they do laundry for 20,000kip per kg. A few mosquitos about due to a bit of gap under the door, but if you turn on the AC they disappear.
- Kseniia (10/5): Quiet place with a view - I got the second floor room and I could see hills just behind my bed! The bed itself was super large and very very comfortable. There was also a small terrace. Would be great if they can fix the shower holder and add a kettle in the room.
- Megan (10/5): Great value for money, comfy bed! - We really enjoyed our stay here! The hosts were so accommodating and always greeted us with a smile and hello. Their puppy was also so cute! We booked a tour through the hotel and it was amazing value for money compared to online booking sites. Our room was clean, spacious and the bed was super comfy! The AC worked really well. The location was great only a short walk to the busy street with shops and restaurants and a 5 min walk to the night market/ATM! Great value for money as well! Would happily stay here again. Nothing!
- Yam (8/5): Very good - Simple backpakers dorms, was great for one night to settle into the town.
- Nitin (10/5): Best for everything. - Free bath soap 🧼,free shampoo, free toothbrush 🪥 and pest , wifi good , water free , two toilet and shower, working space . Free towels, locker facility available, 24/7 aircondition working. Nothing
- Nitin (10/5): Best for everything - Free coffee, free water, free wifi , free soap 🧼, free shampoo, free toothbrush and pest , good working area, good location, best staff, owner good , best wifi speed. Nothing
- William (10/5): This place is great value, no real complaints for the price. They don’t speak much English but you can get by with the t - Great value room, free water, nice puppy, nice hosts, can organise tours and scooter rental. Away from the main strip so it’s quieter. Rooster next door woke us up but this can’t be helped.
- Katharina (10/5): Can highly recommend - best accommodation in Asia! - Most comfortable bed and best shower I've had in all of Asia so far in 2.5 months. The staff was super friendly and always around. Very clean, hot showers & perfect location. Quiet but at the same time very central. Would definitely stay here again. Nothing
- Georgia (9/5): Great - Great value for money and nice to have a pod style bed with lots of space at the side of the bed for my bags. Also nice and quiet but still near enough to walk to all the restaurants / bars Lots of mosquitos in the room so I got bitten quite a lot despite the mosquito spray, and the bathrooms could be upgraded but you get what you pay for !
- Yun0923 (8/5): Very good - Located in a quiet area
Very quiet hostel, good to rest
Bed is comfy
People are very kind
You can not demand so much with such affordable price Lack of common area to hang out
- Crystal (8/5): Basic facilities at a cheap price, if you’ll be out most of the day, it’s a great deal. - Location was great, walkable to the main town center and closer to the bridge leading to west Vang Vieng where the viewpoints/caves/lagoons are. Also far enough from Nana Backpackers so that you could faintly hear the thumping bass and still sleep.
Bed cubbies very private feeling, good string ladders. Wider than usual. Lockers medium sized. Shower had warm/hot water. Towels provided.
Staff was eager to help, friendly.
Lines to dry clothing outside from swimming/kayaking adventures. No shampoo, soap, or toilet paper. But from what you save in the cost per night, not a big deal to get those yourself.
This was good for an anti-social person, if you want to make friends and socialize, this is not the place for you.
Mattress was thin, if you’re a heavier person or side sleeper you would feel the board underneath.
- Meg (9/5): Perfect - The hosts are really lovely people. Always smiling. They helped us book the hot air balloon at a good price as well as arranging transport to the train station.
They also gave us some local food to try.
The green room was downstairs which meant there wasn’t much privacy when the curtains are open but we didn’t mind.
.
Bed is really comfy and aircon works well.
Shower is good.
Just off the main strip of vang vieng so good location The only bad thing is the rooster next door which is very loud in the morning, but again we didn’t mind this as we were up and out early anyway
- Anastasia (8/5): Very good -
- Sasha (10/5): Exceptional - Staff were lovely. Rooms clean. Hot water. Puppies very cute. Quite central to everything and very quite. Not very social but you can go to Nanas in the evenings if you want to socialise.
- Jean-luc (8/5): Very good -
- Cécile (8/5): Very good - The location of the guesthouse is really good and the owners are really nice and try to help you as best as they can, even if they don't speak good English. The dormitory and bathroom were clean enough. I think it is totally ok for the price you pay ! Mattresses in the dormitory are really thin so the beds are not really comfy, but it is OK for a short stay.
- Ellie (10/5): Exceptional - The bed was extremely comfortable which allowed us to sleep so well. The host kindly helped us check in really late when our bus was significantly delayed. The laundry service was good as well. Great location too. The owners have a gorgeous wee fluffy pup who is very playful, which is of course a lovely bonus!!
- Dude (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kristina (8/5): Very good - The dorm beds had lots of room, but no where to put your bags. The shower was hot. The host was very helpful and booked a tour for me. You can do laundry here and rent a scooter. The dogs are cute, especially the puppy. The bed and towels were very clean. The location is good for getting to various attractions and there are lots of great restaurants nearby It smelt of dog sometimes (which can't be helped as there are numerous dogs on the site) and the toilet/sink could be a little cleaner. I enjoyed my stay here though
- Yanki (10/5): Exceptional -
- Balieiro (6/5): Pleasant - The bed was comfortable and room very spacious The staff don’t speak much
- Abel (8/5): Very good -
- Emily (8/5): Very good - Super comfy bed. Good sized room. Good shower. Good location. Friendly family :) The street dogs howl all night long so bring ear plugs
- Dr (5/5): Passable - Comfortable bed, good electricity socket, can get plates & cutlery from kitchen The owner speaks only Chinese that led to numerous misunderstandings and complications, he constantly smokes near the windows of the bedrooms, he cares only about money.
- Matthew (7/5): Nice place but hard beds - Quiet hostel with decent bathroom and friendly staff, although communication was limited (not much English). Clean and tidy with a nice sleeping space. The biggest letdown by far was the bed comfort. Thinnest mattresses I've ever slept on in a hostel, and wasn't far off sleeping on hard wood. I had to change hostel after 2 days.
There also wasn't much storage for bags, which wasn't much of a problem considering there weren't too many people.
- Tereza (10/5): Exceptional - We had an excellent stay. Owners are great and can’t do enough for you. Located close to everything you need. Super comfortable beds.
- Rachel (7/5): Okay for price but expect noise and insects - Lovely owner, large spacious room, very comfortable bed, shower works very well, easy walk into town, fair price. Private room but lack of privacy due to being on ground level and window looking directly out to reception and where people are coming and going. Had to keep curtains drawn at all times.
There was a small gap above and below the door. The door opens directly to the outside. This means that the room was full of flies, insects, ants and the odd mosquito.
There is a rooster that starts from very early in morning and doesn’t stop until later in the afternoon. It gave me a headache and drove me mad. Even earplugs didn’t help, There is also a young child who lives with the family. The child cried a lot during my stay. This was very close to my room. If you want peace and quiet then this is the wrong place. I think I would have preferred to be staying opposite a bar over this as I left being extremely sleep deprived. Disappointing considering how great the bed is :(
The air con only works for a little while then starts to leak so needs to be switched off. Toilet paper is not supplied so need to buy it. No filtered water that I was made aware of either. The room would benefit a smaller light too instead of just the one main light.
- Rasquin (9/5): Superb -
- Tami (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing value for money! New, very comfortable beds. Great location. Lovely staff. Great shower. Nothing
- Zdenek (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elke (10/5): 11/10😃 - We honestly can’t fault Sokxay Guesthouse!! Clean, spacious room with a comfy bed and exceptional value for money. The guesthouse is run by the sweetest family who can’t do enough for you. We were collected from the train station, able to do laundry for a small fee and were helped with renting a motorbike and booking our onward journey to Thakhek. Amazing place and if we ever find ourselves in Vang Vieng again, we will be back! Thanks so much😃 Nothing.
- Deanne (8/5): Very good -
