Guest Reviews
- Elizabeth (10/5): A peaceful and beautiful retreat. - It was so peaceful and calm and relaxing and surrounded by such beautiful landscapes and so much wildlife, not to mention the award winning bakery just over the road!
- Niki and Simon (10/5): -
- Nicola (10/5): Lovely short stay was perfect - The location, character of the property and the fire was a lovely touch. Lovely cottage for a getaway Would of been lovely if there was a couple of board games
- laura (5/5): If you love peace and quiet with things to dip into to do on your door step - Amazing location, lovely little house opposite the pub and deli, good communcation House needs a deep clean, freezer, dishwasher and oven need some attendance and all cutlery/crockery need a thorough wash.
- David (9/5): Lovely family stay in a comfortable and quaint cottage in a great location. - Location, top floor bedroom. Bigger tv
- Kim (7/5): -
- Holmes (10/5): Lovely cottage - Close to a local bakery and pub/restaurant
- Jacqueline (10/5): Romantic and ideal for dogs. - Exactly as advertised, very homely and wonderful surroundings. Nothing
- Mee (7/5): - Listening and seeing birds especially in the hedge outside when sitting at the table ,the cottage had a homely feel ,woodburner was wonderful ,generally it was cosy and warm and a,bonus that the heating in the bedrooms could be altered to all our needs . The dog hairs especially on the stairs and top bedroom floor !
- Howard (10/5): - Everything
- Natalie (9/5): Very comfortable for a short break away - Open fire very nice
- Eddie (8/5): -
- David (5/5): Please be aware of how this property is described, it is nowhere near the beach and had no sea views - Wood burner The description of the property was woefully inaccurate in relation to its position.
It was advertised as ‘beach front’ and ‘stunning sea views’.
Neither of these are correct. It is nowhere near the beach and there are no views of the sea from anywhere inside or outside the property.
- Marsden (10/5): Golf trip with 4 adults - Great location and separate beds for group stay Great location for trip to play golf
- Natalie (10/5): -
- Richard (8/5): Great stay with the family. - Pleasant little cottage. Decently appointed. Open fire was a treat. Perfect location near the beach and right opposite a wonderful pub. Shower very good. Kitchen getting a bit tired. Dishwasher ropey and didn't work very well.
- Judith (7/5): - Great location.
- TrevGreen (8/5): - Location is excellent. Cottage very quaint. Very small yard area, other adjacent cottages appeared to have gardens. WIFI instructions in book do not work, instructions on back of router.
- Giovanna (10/5): Charming, quaint cottage in a perfect location. - Charming and with everything we needed. The location is absolutely perfect. The living room and bedrooms are much smaller than they appeared in the pictures. But suitable for us nevertheless.
- Julia (8/5): Lovely stay with everything we needed. -
- Rosie (8/5): Lovely little cottage, nicely decorated, fantastic location. - The location was fantastic, opposite the pub and bakery and a short walk to the beach. Play park at the pub was an added bonus for our little ones!
- Victoria (9/5): - A lovely little cottage - really well located next to a pub and bakery that we used a lot!
The beach is a nice easy walk away and Thornham and Brancaster are close by.
- Denise (7/5): A beautiful dog friendly cottage in a good location. - Characterful, in a good location. A 15 min walk to the beach. Holme next to the sea has a beautiful beach. You can walk both directions, to Old Hunstanton one way & the RSBP nature reserve in the opposite direction.
There was a lovely community common a few minutes walk from the property, which was a lovely wild flower area & great for walking dogs. There was too much furniture in the sitting/dinning area, so it wasn’t comfortable for watching tv. The chairs blocked the view.
Maybe some fold up chairs which could be tucked away would be a good idea.
- Alison (8/5): Ideal location - Ideal location off road parking.
Opposite the pub in Holme next to the sea.
Sleeps 5 at a push ( probably not 5 adults as single room more or a cupboard )
Two bathrooms was great
Price and location great can walk to the beach Seating in lounge a bit squashed sofas need updating as too bulky arms take up nearly a whole seat worth of space, and poof very heavy.
Dinning table a little big also but only 4 chairs
There were 3 of us and 2 dogs staying so was idea thou but little room for dog beds / crate.
Bathrooms could do with better sized bath towels ( too small ) and hand towels not big enough for hair / head, also needs bath mat.
Cleaning could be better cupboards under stairs full of dust and due to furniture layout we had to move puff / sofas to get dog crate in and we’re not very clean behind sofas if smaller / more compact sofas would help.
- Jackie (8/5): Very good - Pretty cottage, tastefully decorated and furnished. Very poor Internet connectivity
- Christine (8/5): Very good - Stair's were steeper than expected, No grassed area on sight for our dog at the Cottage but there was for other cottages to use. WIFI not working when we got there, BT engineer came on the Wednesday so had to wait in for him to correct it, which made us late going out.
- Stephen (8/5): A nice little cottage - A cosy compact cottage with decent facilities in a good location for getting around the coast. The only thing I would say is the stairs are pretty tricky to negotiate so I wouldn't recommend to anyone with mobility issues or younger children.
- Lucas (8/5): Perfect cottage and location for a short break with our Cocker Spaniel - Location was ideal for ideal access to the beach and the pub opposite the cottage. The bakery/cafe next to the pub was excellent for breakfast & lunch The front garden hedge needed trimming
- Deborah (10/5): BEAUTIFUL DRIFTWOOD - Everything.
We appreciated and enjoyed the cottage. Its lovely. Plenty of room. Lovely soft bedding and comfy beds. Peaceful.
The White Horse ( pub opposite)was quality and good value.Staff very professional. My son enjoyed the coissants from The Bakery, this is on The White Horse site, they make good bread and coffee.
We loved it. Thank you Norfolk. Coming home.
- Rosie (8/5): We had a great stay, cottage was cosy, weather was kind - The location.
The log burner.
Two bathrooms The bathroom door was difficult to close, no lock.
The double bed and one of twins was squeaky.
The towels had seen better days
- Brian (9/5): Abolsute Quality lucky to find and will visit again ! - Excellent relaxed accommodation in lovely village all was perfect
- Fleming (9/5): Fandabidozi cottage - We booked your cottage for our daughter's 40th birthday. We had a really lovely time, thank you.
There are a few things I would like to mention, the visitor Information book was so well written and friendly, it covered everything you need to know. Please note the below are NOT criticism and in no way detract from our lovely stay.
As there is no shop on Holme it would have been nice to have a little welcome pack, milk, bread.
Some cleaning products, toilet cleaner.
The handle on the dishwasher came off.
The latch on the door to the upstairs is broken.
These are comments, suggestions
Thank you for a lovely stay
- Anonymous (9/5): Pretty cottage near coast - Very pretty cottage in Holme, a peaceful Norfolk village just inland from the coast, & a short drive from Hunstanton. Excellent food at pub right opposite. Great woodburner! Nicely decorated, well equipped & comfortable:
- Karen (4/5): Disappointing - Very characterful cottage, quiet location. Some difficulty getting in to property when arriving at night since entrance at back and name sign not easy to see at night. Owners were responsive in helping us out. Everything apart from the kitchen was well maintained. Beds were comfortable and the place was warm with decent shower. We liked the stove burner. The kitchen was v disappointing and not as advertised. Coffee machine did not work. Dishwasher was old and corroded and did not work. I had to clean two saucepans straight from the cupboard and baking sheet because they had remnants of food on them. The microwave looked unsafe. It had significant signs of wear and corrosion in it's interior. If it hadn't been for the poor kitchen facility I would stay again. I did feed this back to the hosts and they immediately sought to check the kitchen after my stay so hopefully may be improved for next clients.
- Alison (9/5): Relaxin - Beautiful cozy little cottage. Every thing we needed.
Loved the log burner and underfloor heating. Holes in the hedge meant the dog could get out the garden, but it wasn’t a big issue once we were aware and wouldn’t put me off staying again.
- Poole (9/5): Superb -
- Rebecca (8/5): Cute Coastal Cottage - Small but cute cottage, close to the Holme beach too! Sadly the wood burner wasn’t working when we arrived so couldn’t use it on the first night and had to wait until the second night but it was fixed quickly.
- Diane (7/5): Nice location - Location, the pub opposite, historic property House was really cold when we arrived as bedroom windows were open. . Got a fire going and heaters and upped temperature. Smaller bedroom heater not working but made contact and they dropped a small plug in heater the next day. Draught from front door.. Bathroom latch hard to shut and plug was temperamental. . Paintwork tired in places
- Liz (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful cottage with anything you need was clean tidy and very cosy, perfect location to the beach for the dogs and close to shops and towns would definitely stay again.
- Diane (10/5): Absolutely fantastic - Clean warm and location was brilliant Aa I have to write what I didn’t like about the property I have to comment there is no garden it’s a yard. Not an issue in January but summer months not so great
- Liz (8/5): Very good -
- Sarah (10/5): A fantastic Christmas destination and I’m sure anytime would be perfect. - Fantastic location … beach dog walks close by and lovely pub across the road … literally!
Gorgeous cottage
Log burner perfect
Christmas tree and decs … nice touch … home from home
Great shower in en-suite btw Nothing
- Elizabeth (9/5): Lovely stay in beautiful, well equipped cottage - Pretty cottage in great location just opposite the pub. Helpful owner, good communication with speedy responses to messages. Very comfortable bed, under floor heating and glorious wood burner If I was to be picky the only thing was an uncomfortable sofa. However, not a massive issue
- Lucy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kevin (9/5): Superb -
- Richard (10/5): Lovely relaxing break at Driftwood Cottage. - Ideal location, pub nearby and a nice walk to the beach.
With the underfloor heating and log burner the cottage was nice and toasty. Nothing.
- Luke (8/5): A cozy cottage well situated for exploring North Norfolk - The cottage felt warm and comfortable The sofa & easy chair were not that comfortable for us
- Janet (7/5): Driftwood - Nice position pub opposite handy. No outside lights which would have been useful as it's November. Few niggles inside, flickering bulbs in kitchen and one bedroom, no kindling or firelighters and window shutters didn't stay closed in bedrooms. Beds were comfortable. Dishwasher needs securing in its place as whole thing tips when top rack is pulled out.
- Victoria (9/5): good value for money autumnal break - quiet village location, good pub the sofa and chair in sitting room was uncomfortable to sit on
- Karen (10/5): Relaxing, great walks, feel refreshed. - This is my second stay at Driftwood and again it didn't disappoint. It is a warm cosy house with lots of lovely features and everything you need for a relaxing stay. The location is quiet and idyllic. The White Horse pub across the road is very friendly and serves great food which meant I didn't have to cook, which made the stay even more relaxing. Can't think of anything.
- Sketchley (7/5): Although quite small, we found it relaxing. Cooking pans need replacing, not very nice to use - Quietness Crockery and cutlery were in short supply
- Amanda (8/5): Cosy cottage - Brilliant location, right opposite the pub, lovely cosy cottage. Would definitely stay here again. No soap in upstairs bathroom, lights on 1st stairs not working. Would have been nice to have fresh milk in the fridge in arrival.
- Stanley (7/5): Good -
- Dean (10/5): Definitely worth a visit - Everything, location ,size, decoration and a good price Nothing
- Lisa (7/5): a wonderful area to walk the beach and dunes. warm, quiet and comfortable accommodation. - The location is quiet and a perfect spot for walking along the beautiful beach .
The log burner was great and we were left lots of logs to keep us warm . the cleanliness in the kitchen was poor. items had been put away with marks on. the microwave and oven are in need of a clean.
- Julia (8/5): Very good -
- David (8/5): Very good -
- Sally (8/5): Cost cottage weekend - Cosy
Well equipped
Good position Maybe a few more mugs
- Paul (9/5): Superb - Great cottage and great location. Would use again without doubt. Being critical the top floor electric radiator is hopeless. Without thr towel rail radiator it would be very damp now it's colder. Also some noise from neighbouring house? water filling(toilet flushing?) at night could disturb sleep for some.
- Margaret (9/5): Superb - Loaction, good facilities Nothing of note
- Vanessa (8/5): Very good - Very quiet. Lovely location, near the coast. Some of the heaters didn't work.
- Patrick (9/5): Superb - Attractive snd well presented. Handy for ge beach. Easy to find. No problems
- John (8/5): Very good - Good location, had everything you’d need We only need 1 bedroom so expensive unless your a family, that’s no slight on the property itself
- Caroline (7/5): Lovely comfortable cottage, ideal for exploring the local coast and villages. - The property itself was lovely and the White Horse pub opposite was very handy and offered great food and service. It was a good central location to explore Hunstanton, Old Hunstanton and the neighbouring villages. The property details stated it had sea views but this wasnt the case. The welcome pack was limited and the bathrooms were not as clean as we would have liked.
- Phil (9/5): Superb -
- Brendon (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful fisherman's cottage in Holme next the sea. Ten minutes walk from the beach and the Norfolk coastal path, loads of great pubs around including the one opposite.
- Sarah (9/5): Very good - Location excellent. Enjoyed our stay Location to Pub and Beech
- Jane (8/5): Really pleased overall - Very cosy and convenient, nice village with lots of friendly people The beds and sheets had some marks on them, but it didn’t matter, and to be expected so overall it was a nice little cottage
- John (7/5): The location was beautiful and there were plenty of nice places to eat nearby, the Whitehorse - Not applicable The steep stairs were an issue for me as I have mobility issues - and both toilets were upstairs on first and second floor. Unfortunately this information wasn’t made clear on booking.com at the time of booking, otherwise I’d have looked elsewhere. However the host did let us know near the time but it was too late by then.
- June (9/5): Fabulous definitely would return. - Excellent location. Great facilities. Love sunny little yard. Was some areas of cleanliness that had been overlooked eg. Bedroom drawers full of biscuits and crumbs, bathroom floor had toothpaste and hairs. Bathroom door lock difficult and close missing on single bedroom door. Tiny things that could be easily remedied. I think owners would appreciate knowing.
- Robert (8/5): Lovely cottage with a free wake up call by workers - Lovely little Cottage in a perfect location. Wasn’t advised about work going on at pub directly across from Cottage (White Horse). Woken up every day at 07:30hr by builders and machinery. Had to sit wearing jumpers at night due to big gap around front door, this is an easy fix. Woken up early by fitter who was booked to fit new carpet that we wasn’t aware off.
Lastly don’t plan on eating at the White Horse. Food is very nice but the price is a ripoff with many hidden extras ie tips big price for every side etc. When you add the extras you are paying big city prices, Take a 5 minute drive to the Lifeboat inn down the road far better priced and great food.
- Kathy (8/5): Lovely and cozy cottage with a great location - Location Carpet on stairs not fitted properly..needs a bit of fixing near the top bedroom
- Jason (9/5): Beautiful little cottage well located in Norfolk. - Perfect location and a very beautiful cottage, it will be even better when the pub opposite is refurbished. i always expect a comfortable bed, hot shower and good wifi while travelling, it certainly met our expectations. it is extremely quiet. not that i didn't like it but the stair carpet runner came loose during the stay. i only mention if for safety and to avoid a fall in future.
- Susan (7/5): Compact accomodation but had everything needed to make a comfortable stay. - Good central location. Thought stair carpet was dangerous. Very loose on stairs. Needs refitting? Door to stairs would not close fully. So had problem keeping dogs downstairs.
- Natalie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wayne (4/5): Misleading - Quiet location, comfy bed, clean linen, log burner and powerful shower in en-suite. The fact that the information provided is incorrect. There is no sea view at all and it is not beachfront!! It is a 15 minute walk even to the car park. This shouldn't be advertised as such as it is misleading. The host did tell us there was no sea view but it was once we had booked, and due to the fact it was a last minute booking we could not cancel. The pub in one of the photos and described in the write up is closed and looks like it has been for ages - it has been purchased by a larger chain. It is a building site at the moment and I can't imagine it will be ready to open at all this summer. This is not in the control of the owner of course but would have been useful to reflect this in the description. We had hoped not to drive too much to eat out as this was bang opposite.
The big problem for us was the steepness of the 22 stairs that was not mentioned until we had booked. They were extremely steep and the property is over 3 floors with hand rails only a part of the way on each flight. Really scary for anyone with any mobility issues or for older people. This should be clear in the description rather than just mentioned in a question. Lastly, as others have said, the large rug in the sitting room was very badly stained with old stains which was off-putting.
- Paul (9/5): Superb - In a great location a short walk from the beach . Very quiet and peaceful location . Cottage was lovely, clean with everything you need for a relaxing stay . Showers were really powerful and lovely log burner with plenty of kindling and logs .1 thing we did think which wasn’t really a negative but to left of the front door maybe somewhere to hang coats .
- Emma (8/5): Lovely cottage - Lovely location, beautiful beaches!
20 minute walk to beach
Log burner kept the house nice and cosy
Parking outside. Radiators wouldn’t work but thankfully wasn’t needed as the log burner kept the house warm , bathroom door wouldn’t shut. Also master room was loud at night, I think the water tank warms up at certain times and I could hear it (I’m a light sleeper)
Pub across the road is shut but opens in may
- Donna (9/5): Superb - Fantastic communication
Lovely cottage
Great location
- Michael (8/5): Much needed break - Spacious, well equipped and good location Pub across the road was closed for refurbishment 🙁
Weather rubbish
- Ian (9/5): Ideal base for a long weekend - Perfect location for a few days of walking and birdwatching. The cottage was a perfect temperature, and using the log burner made it extra cosy. There was plenty of hot water and kitchen equipment. N/A
- Clare (10/5): super cottage - the cottage was idyllic. so near to a beautiful sandy pub and the white horse pub over the road.
the cottage was very comfortable...we really enjoyed the wood burner and under floor heating...very cosy. parking very easy. there was nothing I didn't like
- Potts (8/5): Great little cottage. - The cottage was in a great location and the beds were sooooooo comfy. No hot water for 2 of the 3 days we were there. Alison, couldn’t have been more helpful though and tried to sort on every occasion she was informed.
- Louise (7/5): Good - Lovely location and really cute little cosy cottage. Unfortunately wasn't clean downstairs, floors dirty but somehow bleach was all over one of the upstairs bathroom's floor and my partner's socks had to be thrown away. Could do with more utensils in the kitchen like a bigger frying pan. No dishwasher tablets supplied.
- Jacqueline (8/5): Enjoyable - Comfortable and pleasant and loved the wood burner Radiator did not work in the double bedroom.
- Julia (10/5): Fantastic Cottage great location - This cottage was beautiful and suitable our needs. The location was perfect too. Just what we needed There was nothing we didn't like the only problem with our stay which is not to do with the cottage but the local pub was closed.
- David (9/5): A quiet getaway in a quaint village near the sea - Lovely cottage in a quiet location opposite a nice pub and nice walks from the door
- Stephanie (10/5): Fantastic, cosy, homely in idyllic location. - Very clean & well organised, with everything you could need to make it a cosy home from home experience. Great location, lovely!
- Kirsty (9/5): Great family stay with our old dog - The beach is a short walk away and a lovely pub directly opposite. We were all grateful for the log burner after we all got wet and cold from the beach. The cottage had everything we needed. We will definitely be staying again. Nothing major, but if the gaps in the garden hedge could be blocked up as I could see some dogs seizing the opportunity to escape.
- Gemma (8/5): Very good - Lovely comfy cottage with everything you need and the wood burner with delightful
- Jan (9/5): enjoyable - good location for us touring and walking. cheap enough for two friends needing separate rooms, as my friend is a snorer!
- Karen (10/5): Fantastic stay at Driftwood Cottage. - A truly idylic place, our stay here was a very cosy and homely one which had everything we needed and more. Location was perfect with a pub across the road that had a warm and friendly atmosphere which served wholesome food and the beach was close by too. I would definitely go back. To be honest there wasn't anything I didn't like, the house and location was perfect for what we wanted.
- Anonymous (10/5): Warm, welcoming, cozy and great location. - It’s a lovely cozy cottage. It has a lovely pub across the road. 15 minute walk to beach.
The hosts left a hamper of teas, coffees and a bottle of wine. Would highly recommend. Would stay again.
- Samantha (8/5): Lovely cosy cottage in great location - Lovely cosy cottage. Perfect size for us myself, my teenage daughter and her friend and 2 small dogs. Might have been a too small had there been more of us. Brilliant location. The pub across the road served excellent food and the staff were really friendly. Convenient for Hunstanton, brancaster and 2 minutes to Eric’s and the farm shop. Nice little dog park and easy walk to the beach too
Beds were super comfy and cottage had everything we needed. Log burner was great for the cold evenings. The shower was amazing (very rare to get a good shower) Coffee machine and pods nice touch
Parking is on the road but always plenty of space. Although it’s dog friendly there are gaps in the hedge so couldn’t let the dogs outside without being on a lead as they could escape through the hedge. This is only a minor point though everything else about the property is spot on!
- Danny (6/5): Pleasant - Location
Beds
Hot water Dirty
Poorly cleaned kitchen and cooking utensils
Dirty rug in lounge
Mouldy books on bookshelf
Freeze part of fridge needed defrosting
TV size....
- Jo (6/5): We enjoyed the location and walks but cottage just needs a bit of TLC. - Location
Walks
Beaches
Local pub in Thornham and Fish and Chips from Eric’s The cleanliness was not good despite it smelling heavily of bleach.
Mainly the kitchen and lounge It was very dusty on Bedside cabinets and under the furniture. It need a thorough deep clean
- Maria (8/5): Had a lovely time but didn’t sleep well - Dry clean everything worked and good location Let down by uncomfortable mattresses. Main bedroom only had a double bed
- Linda (9/5): Perfect location, directly opposite a charming village pub (friendly with good food), easy access to the beach. The cott - Location. Pretty decor. Good facilities. The only thing that warrants comment was the lounge rug. Being dog friendly, was very evident.
- Nicola (9/5): Superb -
- T (9/5): Lovely, just a couple of issues.... - Lovely cottage, great location only minutes walk from the beach, very comfortable, bedrooms and bathrooms were immaculately clean. As I have thick long hair I dread coming across a weak shower spray, but no such problem here - powerful and plentiful water. 1.The kitchen floor hadn't been cleaned properly. I had removed my shoes when I unloaded our shopping we had brought, and my socks were sticking to the floor. On closer inspection, I could see that cleaning had been attempted but a very quick wipe over only, so dog prints, sticky residue and food/drink drops/spills still evident. 2.We don't have dogs and the living room stank of dog. I appreciate this is a haven for dog lovers, and there was a diffuser in the living room but it wasn't strong enough to mask the smell.....maybe a liberal spray of some air fresher would help? And I'm assuming that the rug gets professionally shampooed at the end of the summer season? It was dirty.
3. I've stayed in various cottages over the years, and just want to mention that there are no paper towels or serviettes, nor salt and pepper sachets at the property. This isn't a deal breaker but its good to know so you know to bring your own
