Great staff
- Victoria (6/5): Could have cleaner and staff can friendlier - Lots cockroaches around and toilets were not as clean. The need daily cleaning as it was a shared ones Staff were not that helpful

- Pamela (6/5): It was good enough for one night but a bit overpriced due to the bathroom facilities. - There was no breakfast offered was told to go to the shop across the road. I liked how old the pub was and its colonial style with a huge beer garden. It was close enough to the venue I attended on the Friday night. No air conditioning, thank goodness it wasn’t too hot and the ceiling fans worked well. Shared shower bathrooms. I’m in the position that I need a toilet closer of a night time due to frequent use.
- Takehiko (10/5): -
- Teresa (7/5): Friendly staff - Location for the event. Very Friendly staff. Door lock wasn't secure enough on room. Safety concern.
- Terri (7/5): Great place -
- Bradley (10/5): -
- Patricia (1/5): Poor - Ok the food was nice The rooms were dirty in the corners the timber bed frames were also dusty and both bed lamps had blown their globes - The shared bathroom the corners of the rooms had dirt and grime and there were cobwebs hanging above the shower- I pointed out to staff that the UHT milk in the fridge was dated August 25 Expiry - the sugar tea and coffee were in rusty canisters
Way over priced for what you get and it was grubby in the rooms -
Who ever is cleaning the rooms and bathrooms needs a lesson in cleaning

- Jason (4/5): - What Breakfast was not offered, Location very noisy No TV or Airconditioning. No soap provided, no loose sheet on bed, wifi kept dropping out. Not value for money
- Andrew (8/5): A great pub which harks back to yesteryear with good facilities. - Loved the room and had a share fridge for guests outside. Late night deliveries not ideal but such is life..
- Lizabeth (8/5): We booked late for Dec 30th on a road trip from Sydney to Brisbane. This hotel was available in the general location whe - Funky hotel with an interesting history. Good restaurant on the ground floor. Billinudgel is not a hopping town.
- matheson (10/5): - Good location great helpful staff but no airconditioning in rooms and shared bathroom
- kenneth (4/5): -
- Larissa (9/5): -
- Raymond (6/5): Loved it. Would stay again but at a cheaper time of the year. - The pub itself was great. Large, iconic old style pub rocking along nicely on the day/night we visited (29 Dec 25) with its history plastered on its walls along with a lot of other memorabilia. Very interesting place. Great staff. No nonsense but good friendly service and up for a chat when able. Meals were good value, plenty to eat and good. Was an indoor eating area seperate from the bar but we chose to sit in the large outdoor eating area out the back of the pub. Large lawned area adjoined which allowed young kids to play but in perfect safety. Big carpark area belonging to the pub down one side. Not sealed so no probs in the dry. Be interesting when she teemed.
Accommodation was on the first floor. Henry Lawson would remember it if he came back because it looks still all original. Our room #4 was smallish. Two doorways, one locked off so we entered from the verandah. No key codes, just the old Lockwood and a key. I’d say original wooden floor. Big comfy bed in the room - which to be fair took up most of the space in the room, couple of reading lights, some double power points, some of which worked, and a ceiling fan. Couple of hooks on the wall were only hanging space. Shared bathroom down the hallway and around the corner. One for the girls, one for the guys. Gents had a basin, shower and toilet.
Loved the romance of it and perfect if you’re backpacking (except the price which I’ll come to later) but not for those lugging cases. As it was I had a back pack and my other half just grabbed her toiletries bag from the car - and a spare top and pair of knickers and she was sorted.
Now if all this sounds like a litany of complains it’s not, we both loved the place, this is just a description of what it was. The tariff. Good luck to them cashing in over the holiday season but the room itself, as much as we both loved the pub, the patrons, the food, the staff and the night in general, wasn’t worth the $230 ( from memory - might have been a bit more or less but it was over $200). Having said that as I hadn’t pre booked any accommodation in the area (we didn’t know how far up the coast we were going to make it that day) beggars can’t be choosers so it was what it was and it was the cheapest option left of any remaining accommodation in the Brunswick Heads or close by areas. Also no air con. Not a problem for us on that night as it was a beautiful 24 - 26C with very little humidity so the ceiling fan did the job.
- Noela (5/5): A very nice experience in a historic pub which meant I could drink lots and fall upstairs to bed!!! 🤣 - This is a very old hotel located in a town with basically no other shops except a General Store and a Pizza restaurant/bakery. There is a garden surrounding the back of the pub with lots of tables and chairs and a stage set up.
It’s historic and very nice however……! I booked in for a 2 night stay on 28/12 at an incredible cost of $200 per night. A basic room with no mirror and a window that would not stay open and had to be propped open with a mug I got from the kitchen. A shared bathroom and no shampoo only a wrapped soap the size of a matchbox. I could hear someone snoring all night in a surrounding room. In all it was an ok stay if you need a clean comfortable bed.
- Paola (1/5): - I don't recommend this place at all. It's very old, beds and walls are dusty and have spider webs plus the music from downstairs can be heard loudly in the bedrooms.
- Diana (10/5): We had a great night just thought the rooms were overpriced - The way they have kept it traditional. No air conditioning in summer
- mark (8/5): lovely. will stay again - great staff. loved staying in an old hotel with original flooring etc lovely coffee shop and Mexican restaurant opposite the hotel. $5 tacos! was a bit toasty in the room even with the ceiling fan
- Helen (5/5): we liked it - location was good & so was the food no covers over the door glass it let in to much light
- Deeley (8/5): Billinudgel, a portal back in time, - It's a Historical building, and fascinating just to see the old paintings and newspaper clippings all over the walls.
The outdoor area is very peaceful, spacious and welcoming. There are plenty of tables amd seats and different spaces all around so very easy to find yourself a quiet little spot to eat and drink and warch the band. As with any historical buildings, the facilities are pretty minimalist. The price reflects that however. Overall the accomodation is quite utilitarian but comfortable enough for a night. Realistically, there isn't much to complain about. The shared bathroom situation isn't the usual modern luxury ensuite one might expect, but there is no way to update the rooms without totally gutting and altering an iconic piece of history that needs to be preserved.
While it isn't what I would necessarily recommend as a romantic couples retreat, for the solo traveller just wanting to be in Billinudgel and enjoy the tiny village and its people, I think it's quite fine!

- Karin (7/5): Shared bathroom not mentioned when I booked - The staff is very kind. My booking confirmation didn't mention anything about shared bathroom. There was only two shared bathrooms and they were dirty. The room is small and has only the bed. There is not even a chair or a table.

- Graeme (10/5): I would love to stay there again on my next trip to Qld - It’s rugged , rustic, unique look . Nil
- Jennifer (9/5): -
- Manfred (1/5): -
- Suzanne (5/5): Not good value for money. - History
Bathroom was of a decent size
Staff from the cafe across the road Shared facilities and cost of stay. Not clear when booking that this was a shared facilities room. When paying $130 per night one expects their own facilities. Very spartan room. No a/c only ceiling fan. Needs to state if you have a disability or mobility issues this accommodation is not suitable for you.

- Kaliwoda (10/5): -
- Warren (8/5): - Atmosphere and outdoor area
- Michael (1/5): -
- Steven (5/5): Pretty Basic. - Food and beer was Ok even if a little pricey. Bed was comfortable. Basic room, quite noisy with no air-con or other facilities for $130.00. Not really great value, I can remember when pub accommodation was the cheapest option.
- michael (9/5): A must for anyone wanting to experience an authentic Aussie experience. - Excellent location. Brilliant slice of life experience.
- Benjamin (10/5): All round great stay - The history surrounding and displayed within the hotel was wonderful, the building has an amazing charm of the old school public house. The staff were so friendly, I felt like a local in no time. I will book this again. I wish I stayed for a few more days
- Jeff (6/5): -
- Brendan (10/5): Just a bloody good time, super chill - Great vibes, great people
- noel (2/5): poor - food and beer ok There were people in a nearby room talking loudly until past 3am and I was unable to get to sleep for hours.
- Blondie73 (5/5): Never again - I thought the place was haunted. Staff at bar were friendly and knowledgeable. Lady taking orders in kitchen clearly haes her job and the food was terrible.
- John (8/5): -
- Lynelle (8/5): Privacy is an issue - Lovely staff, clean and warm room, quiet location Door to room had glass panels that you could see through, had to hang a towel on door to have privacy.
No mirrors in room or hangers for clothes for a three night stay.
- Truus (10/5): A have to go to place!Staff went above and beyond to make our stay very enjoyable. Great vibe - Authentic old Aussie pub
- Katherine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elena (8/5): Very good -
- Aniesha (10/5): Best atmosphere! Felt like a sleepover at a mate’s place - My son and I stayed here a night and it was such a great atmosphere. The staff were all so friendly and helpful, the beds were super comfortable, our room was clean and cozy, and the vegan food was delicious. Would definitely stay here again. Nothing
- Agnes (6/5): OK I suppose - Comfortable beds, lovely staff, interesting heritage building Cleanliness of room and shared bathroom were not great. Noisy which is expected from a working bar. Not much at the township itself but good proximity to other towns that offer a bit more
- Thomas (7/5): Ok for an overnight stop - Convenient location off main highway.
- Peter (9/5): Superb -
- Rouwen (4/5): If you’re at the end of your rope, you might consider it. - The hot water is excellent, the mattress is comfortable, and the staff are very friendly. There are spider webs in every corner of the room—on the ceiling, above the bed, on the blanket, pillows, and inside the wardrobe—making it feel like a haunted house. The soundproofing is extremely poor.
- Hayden (6/5): Pleasant -
- Craig (10/5): Fun filled week meeting characters looking forward to next day - Old school rooms . Plenty of character. Comfortable beds. Friendly staff, great food gold beer great atmosphere
- Chrisi (7/5): Bargain stopover in old pub - Lovely friendly staff and yummy traditional pub food. Good for a stopover on the way up to Queensland. Very thin walls.
- Jacquie (6/5): Pleasant - It was different. Plain and simple
Great food, lovely staff
- Jack (6/5): Pleasant -
- Ross (9/5): Superb -
- Amy (8/5): It was exactly all we needed for our stop over - Stopped over on our way to the airport. Just needed a bed for the night. Staff were great food was great bed was comfortable. Noise from the pub finished early. Shared bathroom was clean. Just needs some hooks in the bathrooms for towels and clothes.
- Stapleton (7/5): Good -

- Jenny (7/5): Good -
- Andrew (8/5): Very good -
- Jason (3/5): Poor - Location Poor facilities
- Sean (9/5): Beautiful little hotel - Stayed here for 2 nights, only a 15 minute drive from Byron Bay. This little pub sits in a town that feels like something from an old western. The hotel is a little run down (rustic if you like) but has real history to it and a big local presence! good atmosphere (live music both nights) great pints, food and the rooms were very basic but perfectly comfortable. Great place! N/A
- Julian (7/5): Good -
- Deb (9/5): We found the hotel clean the beds were comfortable shared bathrooms were very clean - Staff were wonderful
Food amazing we went back to eat there regularly while we were with family Not a thing
- Phillips (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nathan (8/5): Very good -
- Oliver (8/5): Very good -
- Neal (6/5): I thought the rooms were expensive when there is no TV, aircon or private bathroom in the room. - Lovely staff. And they offer a big fridge for people who stay and loads of tea and coffee on hand.
The staff were lovely. The rooms don’t have any TV’s in them or aircon. They have ceiling fans but the room I had the fan only worked on one setting and the ceilings are very high to feel the air from the fans.
The beds don’t have top sheets, so hopefully they wash doona covers between each booking.
- Hardeep (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ian (9/5): Superb -
- Pinon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shane (7/5): The Billi - It's a great old pub with a fantastic atmosphere 👌.
Highly recommend a stay at the Billinudgel. There's nothing I didn't like
- Stephanr (8/5): Very good -
- Melvin (4/5): Disappointing -
- Jacqueline (7/5): Good - The location was convenient for a visit to Byron Bay, where accommodation is far more expensive. The room was fine, though very basic, and we got a good night's sleep once the bar downstairs closed! Good, affordable place for a short stay. There is only a shared bathroom down the hall, which we knew in advance. It was relatively clean but I'd prefer an ensuite bathroom myself!
- Pipkin (10/5): Great! - Great atmosphere and perfect for a stop over. Nothing.
