Guest Reviews

Alles wunderbar
- Sílvia Oliveira Costa (9/5): An authentic experience in an unbelievable location - We arrived late in the afternoon and didn't have any water for the night, but Danilo kindly offered us a jug of water! In addition, the temperatures dropped significantly at night, but once again, Danilo ensured our comfort by providing us with extra blankets.
The location is breathtaking and unforgettable.
The breakfast is complete and varied, better than I expected for such a remote location. We also had dinner there once and it was one of the best meals of the trip!
We didn't climb the volcano, but Danilo showed us the different trails we could do without a guide, making the whole stay very enjoyable.
Of course, the accommodation is very simple, but the hospitality and warmth of Danilo's family make up for any lack of luxury!
Please note that there is no water network, so water is very rationed. For a 2-night stay it was fine, but it could be a problem for those looking for greater comfort. That I didn't stay longer. I will definitely be back! I recommend bringing warm clothes because temperatures can drop significantly. It's also a good idea to withdraw cash when you arrive in São Filipe, as there aren't many services available in this small village. Once again, Danilo helped us find a solution. I can't thank him enough.
- Elena Laura (10/5): Living with the locals experience - Staying here feels like truly living with the locals. The family who runs it is kind, welcoming, and always ready to help with anything you need.
The room is modest and simple, but it has all the basic necessities for a comfortable stay. If you are looking for luxury, this is not the place — but if you want authenticity and a genuine local experience, it’s perfect.
The food is prepared by the family, and their homemade wine is a real highlight. Sharing meals here feels warm and personal, like being part of the household.
Dani, the owner of the hotel was also our guide—he took us up the volcano and arranged all our transport. From the airport to São Filipe, he organized a shared bus, where we left our bags at a local restaurant, enjoyed a meal, and then took the same driver to his village—all for a very small price
One thing to keep in mind is that there is no running water in the village. Water is stored in a reservoir, and when it empties, it can be a bit challenging until it is refilled. It’s part of the rural experience, but it’s good to be aware of it in advance.
Overall, this is a special place for travelers who appreciate simplicity, hospitality, and an authentic connection with local life.

- AGUSTIN IRUÑEA-PAMPLONA (10/5): - Egun zoragarriak pasatu ginen ,zonalde ederra. Danilo da etxea kudeatzen duena. Gure gidaria izan zen Piko sumendira izan zen.
Zelako pertsona giza kalitatekoa ,beti adi laguntzeko. Etxea samargarria ,han dagoen herria oso berezia da. Gehien bizi direnak gazteak eta oso atseginak dira.
Eskerrik asko Danilo ,mundu honetan beharrezko dira pertsonak zu bezalakoa.
- Carla (8/5): Very good - Good location for the hikings around the volcano. Dani is really nice and ready to help. Nice breakfast! Internet isn't always working and you don't always have hot water for showering, but it's part of the experience! :)
- Andreas (10/5): Very relaxed and welcoming place! - One of the most relaxing places I have ever stayed, great value for money. Dani and his family prepared great food everyday, very very welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Great recommendations concerning the surrounding area and the volcano. They offer all kind of tours for different levels of experience without being too pushy for it, so if you want to do a hike on your own, you still get the same great recommendations.
Overall just a great place to spend your time, very relaxing. I personally liked everything. The shower was cold, which was no problem for me, but some put more value into that than I do.
- Pierre (10/5): Exceptional - Great time at Dani's, the pension is perfect for a few nights in the Caldeira. Dani is a great guide as well, and a fantastic cook with his wife! The meals were excellent.
Definitely recommend staying there.
