Guest Reviews
- Dilek (7/5): -
- Sara (6/5): Quirky and quaint - Location was good with easy access to the underground stations. Parking was available on site at no additional cost. The property is a very old building with lovely gardens. Because of the age of the building the facilities were very limited ie floor boards are uneven so anyone with balance issues may want to bear this in mind. The shower room is tiny so some may find this a little too small for them. The bed was very comfy but the room is little dark and tired looking but we loved its charm. It's not a boutique room more a country cottage with all the old world charm that accompanies a property of that age. The size of the shower room and the dark colours in the room.
- Gerald (8/5): Great location easy access and parking was a bonus - Location/parking and character
- Eca (10/5): Exquisite - Fantastic character, great services, very clean and comfortable Location, in the middle of Enfield, a stunning property with fantastic charm
- Tracy (8/5): Friendly host, period property in a lovely location - The host was fantastic, would have been nice not to chase for check in details as a niggle only
Very friendly and informative about the area and transport routes
Would definitely stay again I didn't like parking away from the property but it was not far away and was a dead end road which was fairly quiet.
I would have felt more comfortable being able to lock the door but only stopped one night so was not a major issue for us.
- Angela (10/5): -
- Freya (10/5): Perfect! - Location was beautiful and very commutable into central London. There were also lots of free country gardens and houses to explore near by.
Bed was incredibly comfy and the room and bathroom were stunning.
The owners were very responsive and helpful.
House itself was stunning, straight out of an Austen. Nothing!
As an alert to others though, if staying in the room at the top of the stairs on the left, make sure to draw the curtain for the small window in the bathroom. It looks straight down onto the street and we hadn’t noticed it upon arrival resulting in some poor pedestrians below getting quite the shock.
- David (10/5): A lovely cottage, convenient for us as we had a wedding on the same road. Very close to Enfield Town centre and train st - A lovely, quaint cottage exactly what we needed for a family wedding
- Vanessa (10/5): Beautiful house in an Excellent location - Beautiful house in an excellent location. Bed really comfy, water very hot, fresh towels. Highly recommend this property. NA.
- Cami (8/5): -
- Sarah (9/5): Exceptional property in a unique street. Could do with a little bit of updating and TLC - Fantastic location. Wonderful old world charm Could do with a little bit of TLC
- Suwannee (10/5): -
- anthony (9/5): -
- carole (6/5): The correspondence with property owners was great prior to arrival. But the room was very tired and in need of an update - Beautiful property from the outside in tranquil area, near amenities. Couldn’t lock or even close room door when out of the property. Not really acceptable
- Paula (6/5): Disappointed and in need of some TLC - Location and free parking. Communication beforehand was very good. Comfortable bed.and clean bathroom. The place felt neglected. The shared dining area didn't have enough cups, no other crockery and no toaster. . No milk in the fridge as promised just out of date oat milk and an open tin of dog food. There was no breakfast which was advertised on the site . No free toiletries just some old conditioner in the shower.
- Eliahou (9/5): - Fantastic location, easy access to transport and amenities. Lovely spot for a walk, particularly if have a dog staying too. Comfortable beds, property has a lovely energy to it,and clearly full of history, full of nice quirks due to the age of the property. Like stepping back in time in a lovely comfortable way.
- Lisa (8/5): Perfect. - Comfortable and cosy. Wonderful nights sleep in a very deluxe bed. Nothing.
- Katherine (10/5): Amazing stay in historic house - An incredible, historic house minutes from Enfield Town. Curated beautifully and full of charm. Bed very comfy and a great shower. It was a real pleasure to stay
- Stephen (9/5): Lovely location, quaint building - great place to stay! - Loved the location and the charm of the place. It's easy to get into Enfield Town and a short walk to either of the two railway stations. It's right next to the park and the river, and close to pubs and shops. No signficant issues. Would have been nice to be able to lock the door from the outside as other guests could gain access but a minor concern.
- James (9/5): Superb. - Superb location N/A
- Innes (7/5): Pleasant property with lovely garden. Access and check in instructions were good. - Location and very pretty exterior There was no key or lock for the bedroom door
- Trudie (10/5): Fabulous - Absolutely beautiful cottage, so much character. Tucked away and very quiet.
Because of it's age there are many cute quirks which totally added to our experience. The house has a long and interesting history we found out.
The room we stayed in had the most comfortable bed ever!
Amenities close by and a couple of pubs within walking distance along the pretty river walk.
Excellent communication from the hosts too. N/A.....all perfect
- Niall (3/5): Disappointed - Very rustic feel to place Id booked this cause of both parking and the look of the place.
On arrival I discovered there is only parking space for 3 rooms, and it was in use therefore I had to park on the road.
When we got the place there was no one to great us and show us to room, just a message sent 10 mins after we arrived while we were sitting not knowing what to do.
They informed us before hand that there is no proper lock on the door but I would have aspected the door to at least stay closed/not be a jar even when locked from the inside.
The room was clean to an okay standard, however everything felt very dusty "part of the rustic feel".
The bathroom needed a good clean and was very small.
We ended up having to leave by 8am the next morning as the street we were parked on needed permits.
All in all I would advise not to stay here unless they can give it a revamp.
- Jane (8/5): We had a great stay, we didn’t meet the hosts but they were very responsive to messages. Shower lovely and hot and beds - Loved the charm and quirkiness of the property, so much history and in a beautiful location. Thought breakfast was included but wasn’t, didn’t really matter as we went out.
- Louise (10/5): -
- Guy (10/5): -
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chloe (10/5): A cottage with class and character! - Beautifully old and a great location! Daniel was really friendly and helpful too
- Carl (8/5): charming house in a quiet and green part of Enfield - I had an excellent contact with the owner of the place. There was a change in the arrangement for breakfast and the understanding and friendliness of the owner solved the problem to our satisfaction. Our stay was most enjoyable: the house has tons of charm, a cosy house, full of history, located in a quiet part of Enfield, with a superb view of the garden. The beds are soft and comfortable and we had a perfect night. It's an old house and you must accept that the bathroom is rather small, but the shower works alright.
- Linda (8/5): Historic house in a great setting - Beautiful setting in a historic row of houses next to a pretty little park. Super helpful hosts
- Kate (9/5): A beautiful place in a perfect location - The location was incredible; this is the most beautiful and quiet part of Enfield yet within such a convenient distance from so much of what the town has to offer. The cottage was like stepping back into history. Even the lack of a TV and a small amount of electrical sockets added to its charm. We rented this cottage to get ready for a wedding. There weren't any places to hang a dress or suit bag and it was a bit tricky to get a mirror with an electrical socket in close proximity so it was a little tricky.
- Hossein (10/5): We enjoyed staying at Cottage 👌👌. - Beautiful place 👌👌. Amazing host 👌👌.
- Simon (7/5): Good - Nice surroundings, clean and tidy. There is no cold water in the large en-suite bathroom shower as the tap is broken.
- Debra (7/5): Quirky can still be clean. - Carpets were grungy. Parlour wasn't cleaned one day to the next. Bathroom smelt strongly of mould.
- Eliades (9/5): Superb - We liked the sheets on the bed and the bedding. We liked the pictures, the history and the furniture. On arrival no water, no toilet paper, no milk. Floor not suitable for my nan because it was uneven.
- Kathrin (8/5): Very good - Very nice room in a great location, walking distance to the town. I liked everything…perhaps there could be an additional latch-lock in the rooms
- Baz (7/5): Good - was aware of location., good parking. Did not meet owners, although instructions to enter property clear.
No breakfast available.
- Moira (9/5): A house with such history. - Beautiful very old building with character and tastefully decorated. Quiet lovely location. Small washroom but unavoidable in such an old building.
- Ian (9/5): Perfect in every way - Wonderful cottage in the old part of Enfield village yet just a few minutes from the shopping centre and transport. Renovated to incredibly high standard and tastefully furnished throughout. Nothing really.
- James (10/5): A beautiful period property in the heart of old Enfield Town. - Beautiful old building. Nothing
- Suzanne (6/5): I should have researched it more before booking as it was all a bit tired, albeit probably to be expected given the age - The location was good in relation to the town and eateries. Too quirky. The breakfast provision and room was very basic.
- Pat (8/5): Very good -
- Tara (10/5): Comfortable and cosy very clean and very historic - An amazing historic property that has been tastefully decorated to reflect this. It’s like stepping back in time. There is nothing not to like about this place if you are looking to stay in a place of genuine history
- Eirean (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lucy (7/5): Good - The location suited us well as we were meeting up with family in north London. The property was fascinating and we enjoyed bird watching from the breakfast room. The room was fairly comfortable and sufficiently heated. The breakfast was ok, but wasn't quite as described on this website (i.e. no homemade bread or croissants provided). The room was fine, but we didn't feel completely secure in the ground floor room, as it was not lockable from the outside and was right next to the main entrance. This fact had been pointed out by the owner in advance and it should have been fine, but for some other guests' lack of care in locking the front door, which left us feeling vulnerable. Although we were contacted by the owner on social media prior to our stay with some instructions, I would personally have preferred a more traditional style of communication; perhaps with a personal note of welcome from the owner in the room together with some house notes, including specific instructions about kitchen appliances.
- Annie (9/5): Great stay in a period house - Beautiful, quirky little house with everything you need in a great location Nothing really (although nearly ran out of toilet roll, so spares would have been good)
- Amanda (9/5): A little piece of history - An amazing historic house set in beautiful gardens.Quirky & creaky but we loved it.
Ben was very helpful with communication & sorting things where needed.
Huge,comfy bed.Linen & towels were spotless.
Plenty of wardrobe space & hangers
Ideal position for buses/ trains/ shops.
Very quiet location.
Plenty of places nearby for anything from coffee to dinner.
We would definitely return.
Had walked past this building thousands of times & it was a privilege to stay there & see inside. Breakfast option wasn't for us but we simply sorted ourselves
Maybe tea/coffee in the rooms would be better.
- Julia (8/5): Very good -
- Rachel (10/5): Super find in Enfield - Absolutely beautiful house in a very convenient location. Bed was very comfortable, plenty of hot water and a very nice continental breakfast. Loved it all!
- Barbara (10/5): I don think anyone would be disappointed staying there. - Beautiful graded building, the location of the cottage was superb, a nice ten minute walk through the town to the train station. The building was very quirky & fascinating to explore, the brochure giving the history of the house was very informative.
- Andrew (8/5): Very good - Great location Needs locks on individual doors
- Lee (8/5): Perfect for the trip - Location Nothing
- Joseph (10/5): Exceptional - The cottage was cozy and beautiful with plenty of restaurants and interesting places to walk in the area.
- Joanne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brenda (7/5): Good - Breakfast was OK
- Callaghan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Scheville (10/5): A lovely place to stay 👍👍👍 - Lovely quiet quirky place to stay, lovely cosy room and super comfy bed. Beautiful house, Good communication with owner.👍👍👍👍👍 Only staying one night
- Lindy (8/5): Handy location. - Location. Historical property. Clean. Not a lot left at breakfast!
- Louisa (9/5): A happy memorable weekend enhanced by beautiful surroundings - Clarendon Cottage is a very old, quirky, interesting property in a beautiful area of Enfeild. We loved Gentlemans Row, just a little walk from Enfeild Town Train Station.
The bed was comfortable and there were plenty of cereals, yogurts, toast, fruit juice and drinks provided for breakfast- on a 'help your self' basis. We would have liked to have met the host. It felt a little strange staying in Bens house and not meeting him.
- Joanna (10/5): Exceptional - Great location
- Morgan (10/5): The definitive country cottage b and b, yet close to London - A delightful historic building, full of charm.
- Julie (9/5): Beautiful comfortable cottage, great location - The cottage is set in a beautiful location with so much character. Our room was extremely comfortable with a large bed and double windows looking out on to the gardens. The breakfast choices for our short stay ideal, Alpen, toast and jam options as well as yoghurts and fresh fruit. Quiet location, only a walk away from train station, buses as well as parks and walks. It also was dog friendly and included free parking. The bathroom is small and basic. I can appreciate this is a very old building and it would be difficult to change. It more than suited our needs for our stay.
- Emma (9/5): We had a very comfortable stay in this lovely character property! Perfect location too. - Great location for travel to and from Alexandra Palace. The train station is an easy walk away. The crown and horseshoes pub is also a short walk away. Very good communication from Ben the owner. Nice that there’s parking for guests too.
- Peter (9/5): Peaceful elegance so close to London - Character, location, such a beautiful period property. Very welcoming, comfortable and clean. The path leading to the cottage a lavender walk of fragrance. The Wi-Fi was not reliable
- Julie (9/5): Really enjoyed our stay. - Comfortable bed and interesting historic property. Really good communication from owner before arrival. It would have been good to have a kettle in the room
- Piia (9/5): Unique house, nice green surroundings. The super comfortable bed exceeded expectations. - The instructions we got from the hosts prior to arrival were very clear. This place was pretty and unique. It was quiet with garden and park surroundings. The bed was one of the comfiest ones I have ever slept in, I slept like a log! No complaints. Everything was clearly communicated and we knew what to expect.
- Frances (9/5): Superb - Loved the fact it was such a historic building. It was also in a lovely area with nice gardens.
- Bev (10/5): Such a gem. Book book book!!! - Quirky cute interesting and SUPER comfortable
- Juliah (9/5): Lovely little gem. - The cottage was lovely, quirky, with period looking furniture. It was in a pretty area, with 2 pubs and lots of shops an enjoyable short walk away. The room for accessing breakfast was well laid out, with a good choice of teas, coffees (instant), cereal and cereal bars, a bowl of pears and a loaf of bread and spreads. You could help yourself. The room was shared between anyone staying in any of the bedrooms in the cottage, one other room was being used but we didn't really come across them much.
The room was lovely and perfect for our needs, the bathroom was clean and spacious, the beds very comfy. There was not a tv in our room but there was one in the breakfast room that we could use. We did not see the need as we were not actually in the accommodation for long enough. The floors sloped due to the age of the building, which all added to the charm of the place. We had a couple of small issue which were sorted quickly by the host, who was quick to respond to my messages and keen to make our stay and enjoyable one. The only fault we had was that the stairway carpet was not the cleanest, but this did not bother us. One thing to bear in mind when staying in a place alongside other people is that you need to rely on them being fair when it comes to sharing the food and resourses available. The couple sharing the cottage with us decided to take all of the cereal bars except one. There were 4 of us and only 2 of them yet they left us with 1 (arguably the worst) cereal bar. There was plenty of other things to eat but this is the risk you take with this kind of accommodation. This is in no way a criticism of the accommodation itself and again did not ruin our stay.
- Simon (8/5): Very good -
- Adam (9/5): Superb - This is a beautiful house full of history and period furniture.
The beds were firm and very comfortable.
Are 13 year old son enjoyed looking through the library.
Great location in a quiet part of Enfield Town, and only a couple of minutes walk to the town.
Was a lovely treat to come back to Enfield after relocating 12 years ago. It made it so much more special staying at Clarendon, which was a house we would have walked past every day.
Good communication with the owner before and throughout our stay. There was no negative feedback as it was wonderful
- Robert (10/5): Enjoyable stay. - Beautiful historic property. Great location. Parking available. House contents - good furniture and furnishings. Comfortable bed. Decent breakfast.
The complete opposite of a bland chain hotel, it is a one off.
- Donna (10/5): A little gem in a beautiful part of Enfield - This was a little gem. A very old grade 2 listed building, it was delightful, and we had it to ourselves (that was lucky).
Ben the owner, send excellent pre check in details.
Could not have asked for more! Nothing
- Geraldine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alistair (9/5): Superb - Wonderful building full of character. Great location for transport to London and Enfield shops.
- Cullen (10/5): We had a fabulous time at Clarendon Cottage and would stay there again in a heartbeat. Thanks Ben. - Clarendon Cottage is a gorgeous period property full of charm. It is perfectly located for an easy trip into London, and is a lovely, comfortable place to stay. Ben is a friendly and approachable host. Having the front garden looking so beautiful in the May sunshine was an added bonus! Nothing
- Elona (10/5): Exceptional -
- Corrinne (7/5): Good - The host was helpful with his directions and the venue has parking. Breakfast.
- Verena (9/5): Quiet, unique and beautiful - Special and unique old cottage with the comfort of a very modern bath and bed. The host, Ben was very caring and dog-friendly.
Very private as there are only two guest bedrooms and the building is surrounded by beautiful gardens and a park on the opposite side of the road. Still close enough to London. It took us around 50min (~10min walk, ~40min over- and underground). Also permits for parking the car were provided without additional fees and there was always a good spot available. More British breakfast options would have been nice.
- Aisling (9/5): Wonderful gem of a B&B, highly recommend! - This was an excellent find for a fab property, pretty much in the heart of Enfield and came with parking too, unusual in this location! The property owner gave excellent detailed descriptions and was so lovely, friendly and accommodating too, I couldn't fault the level of care provided to the guests. The breakfast was a great continental mix and with the provision of a microwave an added bonus! Nothing not to like!
- Steve (9/5): Superb - Beautiful and peaceful location with a friendly and helpful host.
- Jackie (10/5): Exceptional. The host Ben was so kind, thoughtful and communicative - Property is well located. Clean. Spacious and stunning 😍 The historical context of it
- B (9/5): Relaxing home away from home 🏡 - Ben was the perfect Host; catered to everything we needed! So friendly and welcoming. I loved the surrounds of the cottage and the indoor decor, such a beautiful place- it took me back to an era gone by, onviously which was not mine.😊
The beds were confortable and had great nights sleep.
The thing we loved the most was getting up in the morning and having breakfast in the breakfast room whilst the sunlight flooded the Georgian windows, you can just there and be. Nothing.
- Morris (9/5): Lovely comfortable stay, excellent host who was really helpful. - Great location, very quiet and good car parking.
Easy check in and check out.
Very comfy bed. More choice at breakfast.
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peter (8/5): Lovely location very comfortable bed - Quirky very old house easy access and quiet charming location. Tiny wash basin but understand why! Limited security.
- Carla (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (9/5): A really comfortable stay in a quaint cottage - Quaint cottage in excellent location. Very clean and comfortable. Quiet.
- Lesley (7/5): Interesting house with some good facilities but hosting needs some thought. - Excellent location, historic house, comfortable bedroom with luxury bedding. But breakfast was serve yourself and minimal (eg porridge sachets needed warm milk so not suitable offering) and not clear whether dirty dishes were to be washed up by us or not (at 10pm they were still on breakfast table). We washed them in our tiny sink but when we went to breakfast next morning there were clean dishes laid out. Needs some clarity re housekeeping in general. Otherwise no complaints.
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alison (9/5): Ben was an excellent host. Answered questions very quickly and very accommodating and helpful - Fantastic location
Lovely quirky very old house
Very comfortable beds
Relaxed atmosphere Nothing really
Maybe a few more choices for breakfast
A bit of fruit
Different bread choices
Cornflakes.
Honey
- Chris (10/5): Little gem in North London - Quaint cottage in lovely enclave near canal; walking distance to good pubs and train station. Free parking. Breakfast was cereal and toast/jams with tea/coffee so quite basic but great considering it’s included in the (very reasonable) price, and available in a lovely breakfast room overlooking the garden.
- Tomasz (8/5): Very good -
- Geoffrey (8/5): Fascinating, quaint property in a v quiet location at a good price - Quaint property in a v quiet side street. Spacious room, good continental self serve breakfast. Didn't appreciate that we would share accommodation with upto 4 other guests. Locks on the bedroom doors would therefore be a good idea. Security of the rooms
- John (10/5): Fabulous - A very quirky property
Very comfortable and will definatly stay
Again
Every thing perfect
- John (10/5): Ideal place to stay in Enfield - Perfect no faults
- Graham (8/5): Very good - A stunning property full of period features.
- Dragan (9/5): Superb - Accommodation at Clarendon Cottage was outstanding. Even though the property is in old authentic house, it feels fresh, very clean, tidy and beds were very comfortable. There is a stunning library with a fire place. Overall an unique experience for us.
The staff is very kind and helpful. They helped and supported us for what we are very grateful.
The property is at a great location and has perfect access to the Enfield city center and central London.
Thank you very much Clarendon Cottage. N/A
- Edward (3/5): didn't stay, bedroom door did not close or lock -
