Guest Reviews
- Gary (1/5): - Nothing at all Internet connection poor if any was there /no central heating / no hot water had to wait 2 hours for shower after work was not happy and the property is in the middle of no where in middle absolute dive steer well clean people
- Susanna (3/5): Can not comment on AbingPlough since we were offered other accommodation. - The owner emailed on the day to say we would not be able to stay. There was an electrical problem.
We were offered a run-down b&b at short notice.
- Dave (4/5): - Quiet location Mould on ceiling and in bathroom. paint peeling in a number of places.
Owner not around when we arrived have to phone to get into accommodation
- Tanaka (8/5): - Lovely cottage.
- John G Francis (7/5): -
- Afzaal (8/5): Too much noise outside - Location
- Elli (1/5): DO NOT STAY HERE UNLESS YOU LIKE THE COMPANY OF A DEAD RAT AND DIRTY UNDERWEAR - Absolutely NOTHING nice about this property, not even the welcome committee of a dead RAT on the doorstep! The DEAD RAT on the doorstep, the dirty underwear left on a shelf, the empty water bottle left, the place had obviously not been cleaned so we left and didn't stay.
We informed the property and they offered us alternative accommodation 24 HOURS LATER! NO THANK YOU! We asked for a FULL refund, currently expecting a 50% one and trying to argue for the rest but the property are not answering booking.com calls or emails as they are trying to AVOID paying the rest!
- susan (8/5): - Very quiet and large comfortable room. Friendly staff
- Heather (4/5): -
- Masud (5/5): -
- Kate (5/5): An ok stay - The property is a nice old building and the receptionist was friendly The whole place looked tired. It needs tidying up.
I couldn’t have breakfast as it didn’t start until 8am - too late for most working guests.
- Brian (7/5): - Very handy to the meeting that my husband was attending. There are lots of WIFI options to connect to for your various devices. There was a portable radiator in the room that you can use prior to the heating kicking in at pre-set time. It was not made clear that the pub was no longer doing meal service (thank goodness Barley Mow is just down the road). Checked in was not too clear however when we called the phone number, we were given the self-checked in instructions (Thank you Jackson).
- Andrew (1/5): -
- joanna (7/5): - The location although in the middle of nowhere was only 10mins from the site I am working at. The fact as warmer weather coming prices was put up so decided to go elsewhere that doesn't
- Barrett (3/5): Stay from hell - How cheap it was but the saying goes you defo get what you pay for 😔 The accodation inside is unclean we found bed bug in bedding, hard matteresses and loose wires everywhere. Dead zone to phone signal internet didnt work. Breakfast wasnt nice. We wont go back silly us didnt read the reviews everyone else says the same. I want a refund !
- Louise (1/5): this has been put on our DO NOT USE list - The property was not clean, bedding stained etc, not suitable for our operators to stay in, 2 out of 3 operators were moved. There was also a very strong smell of drugs, and there were quite a lot of people around smoking drugs. All of it!
- Lucy (6/5): - Breakfast was overcooked and I didn't get a cup of tea. Didn't really eat the breakfast.
The room was clean, although I would stay there again but not number 1 room as the bathroom/bedroom was on split levels which was awkward for me with my balance issues. Breakfast.
- Dinis (7/5): -
- James (8/5): - Location is nice. Staff very helpful. Advance check-in information
- Franco (8/5): -
- Casey-jane (10/5): Banging bruv - The best thing about this place is the staff mirra and her boyfriend go above and beyond to help and are so friendly great little place would highly recommend The only thing that could do with improvement is the rooms could do with being modernised other than that the property is lush and unique
- Matthew (2/5): -
- Vikki (7/5): -
- Hashir (8/5): -
- Ana (8/5): - The bedroom and cooked breakfast The reception
- Jeanne (9/5): -
- John (7/5): Cheap and cheerful - Cheap and clean Probably could do with a revamp
- Sasha (1/5): How is this place even allowed to stay open??? - There was nothing we liked about the property. The whole experience was shocking and the property was so run down. Even the managers car parked in the garage had been in a smash that evening. It was dirty, dusty and full of cobwebs. Lampshade hanging off the walls. Mould on the walls. Scum marks on the jug of water which was not fresh. Damp towels in both rooms. No hot water in the morning. The manager argued with me over and egg which was definitely not poached. The breakfast was so un edible every person in the dining room left it. Our overall experience was unacceptable. If we weren't planning on going to the fireworks we would of left there and then and asked for a full refund. My partner did ask the manager if there was an alternative room to stay in but her reply was no.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE STAYING AT THIS PROPERTY AND IT DEFINITELY SHOULD NOT HAVE A 3 STAR RATING. IF ANY RATING AT ALL.
- Wall (5/5): -
- Daniel (7/5): . - Good area
Women on the desk was good aswell On of the staff was very helpful when I asked him for toast he just looked and walked off.
Breakfast was okay but very small .
Shower bracket was broken and quite alot of cob webs around the room.
Had to force sash window shut as it was half stuck open .
Bathroom was refurbished but wasn't to a very great standard.
My friends room also had issues with shower door not closing
Extractor van completely full of dust
Also the shower in there room the dial symbols had worn off so much u had guess what setting.
The duvet didnt fit the bed properly.
Bed was okay for the night we stay okay for the price
- Josie (8/5): - Great and friendly staff
- Bridget (6/5): Fair night’s stay for a fair price - The venue was helpful in assisting us to book in late in the evening. The property is historic and has a quaint feel. The cooked breakfast was excellent. Arriving late at night, we struggled to find the hotel or completely missed any signage.
Our room was basic and would need some updating to make the stay feel relaxed and more user friendly. There was an adequate level of facilities but given the age of property, lighting and electrics need updating. Poor cleaning around the bed which was quite off putting.
However the price for a one night stay was good.
- Jan (8/5): Good value but not a great location - Very pleasant A very busy road nearby made walking anywhere difficult. Visiting Oxford was tricky as it was 2 bus rides to get in
- Jens (7/5): -
- Aphra H (10/5): - The staff were very helpful. I stayed in the family room with a huge television, which was great for me.
The free breakfast was very good. I would definitely stay again.
It was great value for money.
Thanks!
- David (9/5): Satisfied - Poor signs at night
- claire (6/5): - Depending on who made it the cooked breakfast tasted exceptionally good.
- hyein (8/5): -
- Steve (4/5): Won’t be going back. Won’t be recommending. RIP off price for the standard - Good location Very poor upkeep. Loads of maintenance issues that have obviously been there quite awhile and are being ignored. Hot tub in the description is non existent

- Edward (7/5): Fair - Had character Poor internet and traffic lights at entrance very slow to get in and out. Chair lift made noise and not user friendly
- Ricky (1/5): -
- Anne (5/5): - Location Shower room facilities were on a separate level from the bedroom with dangerous stairs.
- David (10/5): - Mika was lovely, always smiling and extremely efficient and helpful
- Nigel (6/5): - Nice place, 600 hundred years old , very quaint. Improvement would only be in management organisation of booking in and breakfast ordering
- Vanessa (5/5): Faulty Towers - read on - Bedrooms were good size, clean and comfortable. Very quiet too. Lady staff member very accommodating. Given a good clean, this place would be 100 times better. Reception area was interesting. A bucket on the floor (obviously not emptied in days) collecting water dripping from the ceiling (it wasn’t even raining?), a filthy outside toilet and at breakfast, the tea bag bin with days (possibly weeks) of old tea bags in it.
- Thomas (1/5): This stay was an absolute joke! Do not book this place to stay. I don’t know if it has new owners or something but the p - Nothing The owner, the beds, the cleanliness
- Steven (8/5): - We stayed last night for work and was fine. Would definitely stay again Nothing
- Highton (9/5): Great, cosy place. - The room itself was large and spacious, it was clean and they were flexible for checking in. The room I was given was directly above the breakfast space - so I was woken up early by people downstairs!
- Andy (1/5): We’ve been ripped off! - Not what is advertised, mouldy uncomfortable rooms, definitely not what is advertised
- Vicki (2/5): Disappointing, unsettling. We were expecting basic, but it was shabby. Wifi unreliable. Staff OK. - Location was right for us, inbetween family visits. Beds and towels seemed clean, we had a separate bathroom to ourselves, breakfast was good. Tea and coffee facilities in room. We drove past at first as it looked like an abandoned property – it is a scruffy old pub that has been turned into an AirBnB style accommodation with key boxes. Our 'Deluxe Double Room' had child's curtains as it hadn't been updated from when it had been a family home. Our kids' room backed onto the kitchen corridor and was very noisy at breakfast time. The windows were very old and hard to open/close. Late evening, one of the guests was smoking something very strong outside our window and the receptionist rudely came up to ask if it was us. The whole vibe was run down and creepy. We were lucky as we got a fairly good rate (I would have been angry if I'd paid what it's saying today), but Deluxe Double Room is a laughable description. The facilities mentioned a hot tub, but there was no info in the room to say if this was anything other than a bath. Wasn't entirely convinced the main property was secured at night time.
- Lee Fountain (8/5): -
- Tina (5/5): Was ok - Nice breakfast. Great little village Booking.com pictures were obviously taken many years ago. The room we had was showing on the internet, but it was nothing like the picture. Our room looked like the Dumping Ground of extra furniture from other rooms. Way too much furniture and totally mismatched. Says there's a bar but there was no bar.
In the car park there was a caravan with a collapsed awning which was really welcoming.
- Rickards (1/5): Big let down. - It looked pretty from the outside. Property on a main road. Nobody at reception so had to self check in. Had to remove 5 spiders from the bathroom. Mattress not suitable for the bed and no hygiene sheet fitted. Breakfast between 7.30 and 8.30 so chose 8am only to find nobody present and all shut up. Many people missed breakfast.
- Andy (7/5): Weekend visit. - The room was lovely and comfy, the bed was soft and gave a good night sleep.
Tea making equipment was great and a carafe of filtered water was most welcome.
The fact that it was close to where we were visiting was a bonus.
Breakfast was nice and well presented, efficient service throughout. Not really a case of didn't like, more a maintenance issue with the toilet seat, it came off when sitting down and previously had been held on with rubber hairdressers curlers.
Potentially could have been a disaster.
- Amanda (8/5): Great location - Great location and price Nothing
- Alex (7/5): -
- Alex (7/5): Ideal for Oxford. - Lovely property, being refurbished sensitively and to a very high standard.
- Rebecca (9/5): -
- Darren (5/5): accommodation was fine , but frozen hash brown at breakfast .......... - THE 2 GUYS THAT STAYED THERE, SAID EVERYTHING WAS FINE, UNTIL BREAKFAST HASH BROWN WAS FROZEN , SO THEY WALKED AWAY & LEFT THE BREAKFAST !!!!!!!!!!!! Breakfast
- Hooper (5/5): Nothing to write home about! - Breakfast was passable and location good for our visit. The appearance of the outside needed tidying and cleaning up, lack of maintenance. Water too hot on shower and couldn't turn it down. Whole place needs updating.
- Paul (10/5): -
- Lorraine (1/5): Didn't get a room - I was booked in for the wrong night and they had no vacancies for the night I had originally booked for. I had already passed the free cancellation rate so still had to pay. The receptionist phoned the owner who directed me to a guest house in Oxford where he said I could stay for an extra £20. I was told to phone his number on arrival. I parked on the side street on my blue badge, phoned the number, got no reply, front door locked with no response. I didn't feel safe in the area so left and booked into an hotel in Oxford at a cost of £200 which I wish I'd done in the first place. The owner of the Abingdon Plough phoned me and asked where I was. I explained and he started shouting at me and virtually telling me I was lying. I hung up and blocked his number. An expensive night all round as it turned out!
- Rachel (7/5): -
- Dennis (8/5): -
- Vincent (10/5): -
- Daniel holland (8/5): -
- Prong (10/5): Totally satisfied. - It was clean and comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful.
Velmi doporučuji si udělat zastávku zde i včetně anglické snídaně ❤️.
- Megan (10/5): -
- Lyndsy (8/5): -
- Joeri (8/5): -
- Stephen (7/5): - Lovely old thatched property. Vehicle noise on the main road in front of the property.
- June (5/5): Quaint but needs tlc. - In a pleasant location by the River Thames with nice places to eat and drink. Needed updating. Very dark in places on staircase. Shower door not opening. Small breakfast. Noisy by road.
- Lucinda (6/5): Ok but would not stay again. - Location, clean room and bathroom, water pressure and bath, and helpful staff. External area and windows were dirty - weeds and building rubbish lying about. Communal staircase was cramped and smellt mouldy.
- Ian (4/5): One of the worst places we have chosen on Booking.com - Very little. A lovely local pub was in walking distance. The overall standard of the property was extremely poor. Some of the electrics were potentially dangerous…four into one socket on our landing. The interior decoration was very much below standard for the price we paid and in some cases totally unacceptable. See photos. Our booking was for four people and one couple had a ground floor flat in a separate building. In this room there was an unsecured work top with glasses and a water filter on top which, with weight on the right, would have catapulted the whole lot on the floor. The carpet had not been fitted at all and overlapped the wall in places. Frayed towels.
In our room the top of the toilet cistern was askew and dirty.
The breakfast was limited and any cooked breakfast ordered arrived while you were eating cereal. The cooked breakfast was almost cold. Consequently we cancelled breakfast on the second day and went to the local pub. The gentleman (owner?) who served breakfast was dressed in clothing completely unacceptable for serving food…tatty tea shirt ,shorts and crocks. The lady however was considerably better and very helpful.
- Ron (8/5): Exceeded our expectations & wouldstay here again. - Spacious room & good-sized bathroom. Comfortable bed. Good breakfast. Friendly staff. Location was tricky to find - even with a sat nav.
- Tim (7/5): - Room Not being able to get food/drinks on premise in evening
- Ehsan (9/5): I loved this place - Clean
Good staff
Nice area
- Paul (6/5): -
- Nimmo (4/5): - Bed comfortable Not hot tub as advertised. staff unattentive breakfast was ordered for 9am and ordered the night before yet at 9 am no clean table to sit at all previous people's stuff still there waited till 10am and gave up went back to the room got ready and left
- VALERIA AGNES (6/5): Fairly nice - It was well located and the bedroom was lovely and clean. The bathroom was far away from the bedroom, i had to use the stairs down to the bathroom and then back to the bedroom, and had a stained shower floor. The customer care was lacking, as the lady at the reception didn’t was arguing with on the phone.
- Barry (9/5): -
- Pauline (2/5): Not good will not be going back - Wi-Fi good had a car park Breakfast bad bacon hard sausage not nice coffee not very nice .Busy road outside no cold water in tap towels have holes in the rail in the garden to go up the few steps is not safe
- John (4/5): - One of the cheapest options in the area Felt dirty in the rooms. Could hear the person making our breakfast coughing and splurging whilst making it which was a bit off putting.
- Emma (1/5): Awful, please don't be mislead by the photos and positive reviews - Clean sheets and nice old building but those are the only positive elements of the stay. Grubby place, rodents in the walls woke us during the night, the bathroom smelled of urine. The breakfast was poor. I feel I was robbed of £140 for one night's stay in this awful place. I'm still shocked. I'd like to make sure no one else makes the same mistake as we did! The photos and positive reviews are very misleading.
- Adrian (9/5): -
- Vivienne (8/5): Excellent village location and good breakfast. - Lovely village, near Thames and another pub. Room was lovely and also big, well furnished. A few bits around the property could be tidier but room was fine.
- Darrell (9/5): -
- Lynn (8/5): - Location and was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was also very good 1 night we didn’t have hot water and the electrics were multiple plugs plugged into one socket
- Alex (8/5): Fantastic place to stay - Lovely room with a large bathroom and the largest TV in Christendom.
The lady on duty was excellent and was working extremely hard. There was a slight technical hitch with the booking but all sorted. Lovely breakfast in the morning. Excellent value for money. Very bad signage on the outside which referred to the previous name of the establishment.
- Peter (8/5): Pleasant stay friendly staff - Quaint house, quiet and peaceful Difficult to find post code sent sat nav 1 mile down the road
