We got a lovely bottle of wine as a welcome gift too.
The Magpie & Stump hotel has great food and is just next door
- Susan (9/5): Clare Valley summed up in a cottage - - very cute cottage, has everything you need , even muesli etc for breakfast and a bottle of wine !

- Colleen & Charles (9/5): Lovely cottage in historic village - Lovely welcome pack, & breakfast provisions great. Very comfortable and cosy. Kitchen a little small but fine for overnight stay.
- Geoffrey (10/5): Excellent - Lovely accommodation right in the centre of the village. Very clean and well appointed with every need catered for.
- Linda (10/5): Perfect for short stay - or longer if time allows - We only had one night to stay in the Clare Valley so this suited our plans perfectly. Close to Martindale Hall and a great pub next door for evening meal. Very comfortable and a great space to relax. Loved the welcome bottle of local wine for our arrival. Good communication.
- Catherine (10/5): -
- Helen (10/5): A treasure of accommodation. - We were very impressed with The Bullock & Bridle Retreat at 62. Definitely value for money accommodation. It was spacious, comfortable and renovated to a high standard, but including some original features. The large TV with Netflix was a bonus for relaxing after a busy day exploring the beautiful Clare Valley. The bed was spacious and sooo comfortable and the lovely bathroom with the rainhead shower was a pleasure. A nice little kichennette with new appliances and a light breakfast was a bonus to start the day. The bottle of wine was a nice touch too. The cottage is next door to the lovely pub, remember to book as it gets busy. It's also across the road from Reillys Cellar door who do free wine tasting and great food. Mintaro is a beautiful little town with lot's of historical buildings so great for strolling around. We will definitely stay here again. Nothing, we loved everything.

- Lisa (10/5): A fantastic little place to stay, perfect size. Thank you for accommodating us for only one night! ❤️ - Everything! ☑️☑️☑️☑️ A few low hanging cobwebs in the bedroom area

- Susie (10/5): Cosy, quiet and right in the heart of the quaint little Clare Valley town of Mintaro. - Cosy, quiet and right in the heart of the quaint little Clare Valley town of Mintaro. My elderly parents loved their stay. Open plan and flat floors. Perfect for people with mobility issues. A very spacious place which was great for them. Excellent communication and lovely touches including snacks and local wine.
- Lauren (10/5): Very peaceful, comfortable and relaxing stay. - Very detailed instructions about booking in, easy to follow. Lots of lovely extras in comfortable cottage. Not a lot of bench space in bathroom but not a problem really.
- Phillip (9/5): - The location was great, nice and quiet, the breakfast was good, there is a pub next door. Nothing.
- Lucy (10/5): -
- Julie (10/5): Quiet, secluded, beautiful, with breakfast included. Great couples getaway winetasting around Clare. - A wonderful, comfortable, beautifully furnished place to stay. The breakfast and other facilities here were amazing. We can't recommend it enough and wished we could have stayed longer. The pub next door was wonderful with yummy food and the wine tasting across the road was great. It was a shame we didn't have time to taste their food too. An easy drive to loads of wineries or to go into Clare. Quite, secluded, beautiful place to stay. Highly recommend for a couple's getaway. Nothing, we loved every part of staying here and will be back for sure.
- Alex (9/5): -
- Elizabeth (10/5): Great place to stay- very convenient to many local attractions - Great location, close to the pub. Lovely ambience. We had difficulty finding the property but only because we assumed that google maps had it accurately pinned. We found it after we rechecked the email which had good instructions
- Karen (10/5): Very comfortable and spotlessly clean - The accommodation had everything we needed and it was great to have breakfast supplied. Amazing bathroom, very comfortable bed and spotlessly clean.
- Darren (10/5): Well renovated "stable" in a quiet town in the Clare valley. - Well renovated "stable" in a quiet town in the Clare valley.
- Paul (10/5): Great accomodation, great location, great hosts - Everything Nothing
- Boy (10/5): - Clean, fresh. Looks exactly like pictures. Located next to the pub, which had excellent service and food. Beautiful little town. Liked everything about it
- karen (10/5): We have stayed at both of these properties and have been very impressed with both. - The provisions were lovely and the location was perfect for us. Very accommodating host.
- Neale (9/5): Great - Everything we needed Tv reception no good at times
- Carol (9/5): - Loved the location, the history of the building, quiet, private, and comfortable.
- Glenn (9/5): Excellent - Spacious and clean with new feel
- DYS (9/5): Lovely little hideaway - Clean bedding and spacious living area.
Modern bathroom and functional kitchenette.
Efficient heating and cooling
Nice little courtyard for sitting outside.
Complimentary breakfast provided also a nice touch. Not much at all.
- Craig (9/5): Great stop in Minarto - Excellent small property. Great location. Very neat and clean Nothing
- Richard (8/5): - communication with the owner for access was clear and simple, the cottage was perfect for what we wanted, overall was excellent value for money I would definitely stay again when we are next in Clare. nothing
- Anthony (4/5): - Nice facility with comfortable bed Breakfast provisions were woeful and totally inadequate. No fruit, no juice, no yogurt and cardboard bread for toast. I suspect the owner has never experienced a proper Continental breakfast.
- Judith (9/5): -
- Alice (9/5): Peaceful, private discovery. - Unexpectedly quiet. Seamless entry and exit from property. Loved the pub next door yet hidden charm of the setting. The name had made us a bit nervous but then it turned out to be lovely. Mosquitoes kept us awake, and bitten. We were careful with door and windows yet they still came in.
- April (8/5): -
- Ann (8/5): -
- Francesca (8/5): - What a great spot and studio accommodation.
Perfectly located behind the Local Pub.
Breakfast Supplies and Complimentary Wine completely unexpected but a wonderful surprise.
Very Comfortable and Roomy.
Great Stay.
- Andrew (10/5): -
- Catherine (9/5): -
- Jan (10/5): Highly recommend staying at this beautiful place. - loved the quaintness of the property. Location was excellent and so close to everything. Facilities were clean and loved the complimentary bottle of wine. Nothing
- Karen (10/5): A beautiful property - This is a beautiful property and the breakfast provisions were a generous touch
Would definitely recommend staying here
- Joanne (9/5): - Lovely historic town. Property so well equipped, warm despite the cold windy weather.
- Carl (10/5): Simply superb - Simply superb. The level of comfort and style in the presentation and delivery of this wonderful property . I certainly will return. Thank you to the owners for the effort you have put in. There is truely nothing to dislike.
- Patrick (10/5): Excellent accommodation in a prime location. - Location couldn't be better. Right in the centre of the small village and next to the pub for dinner. The accommodation had everything that a traveller needs. A washing machine would be nice.ee
- maree (9/5): Fabulous would highly recommend, and in fact have told lots of our friends about it ! - Loved everything, the location the originality of it while adding a modern touch . The only thing and it’s quite petty , but just found the couch a touch firm !
- Nene (9/5): Charming and comfortable heritage property, perfect for couples. -
- Laurita (9/5): Only stayed one night but this cute space would be a perfect base for a few days exploring the area. - Very cute space, had everything we needed. Aircon in the main space kept us warm. Bed & bedding very comfortable. It was a little chilly in the bathroom despite the small bar heater.
- Matt (10/5): Exceptional -
- James (9/5): Superb -
- Andy (7/5): A pleasant Stay ..... - It is a good location being centrally located for the major wineries. Being winter, a wood fire would have been better than air-conditioning.
- Frank (9/5): Excellent accommodation and country location - We stayed here for a number of nights in July 2025. It was cold, but the room heating was up to the job. The room is well laid out and has a full kitchen other than an oven. The hosts provided us with plenty of complimentary items including a bottle of the local wine. Shower was hot, bed was comfy and the SMART TV and Wifi all worked fine. Pub and restaurant is next door and Wine tasting and great restaurant across the road. Property has a spacious outdoor area, but the wet weather stopped us using it. Plenty of wineries nearby. We'll definitely stay here again. Parking was out the front of the property, so some concern about pub patrons walking by late at night returning to their cars parked in the same area. The road from Claire to our accommodation was a little rough and a bit longer than we expected.
- Jayne (9/5): Superb -
- Ildefonso (10/5): Couples getaway in Mintaro - Peaceful location behind the pub. Spacious with lots of room. Huge bathroom and clean toilet. Nothing really! I'd say it was a perfect stay.
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brian (8/5): Enjoyed our short stay at the Private Guesthouse in Mintaro. - Breakfast was excellent and location great as next to the Magpie & Stump Hotel where we went for lunch.
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (9/5): Great cottage in a wonderful historic village. - Cottage was more than we expected. Fittings and fit-out are above average quality and showed owner has travelled widely and a good knowledge as to what makes a comfortable stay. Continental breakfast provisions and a bottle of wine were most welcome. Staying in the heart of Mintaro was a real bonus for us. As we have never been to this historic village before we were delighted to walk the streets and admire the towns heritage buildings and history. Having the Magpie and Stump Hotel right next door to us meant we could go there for dinner have a wine (or two) and not have drive home. Highly recommend Private Guesthouse Mintaro. Would have been nice to have off street private parking.
- Louise (10/5): Wonderful stay in a lovely town - Location well appointed little extras provided very clean ease of entry
Just a lovely choice Nothing
- Debbie (10/5): Wonderful little B&B - Location was perfect . Bed very comfy . Breakfast good overall experience lovely .
- Sherryl (10/5): Beautiful cottage with all the trimmings. -
- Avery (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gail (9/5): Great rural escape in picturesque village - If you are looking for a quiet and well-located place in a small, beautiful village in the SA countryside with great amenities then this could be the place. We stayed on a weeknight and had dinner at the Magpie on the Stump hotel (next door) where the service and food were terrific. The breakfast provisions suited us really well, the bathroom is modern, bed was comfy and it was very private. And, also not very far to Martindale Hall which is well worth a visit and of course there are many wineries a short drive away.
- Leanne (10/5): Exceptional - We loved the breakfast and snack supplies, thank you for your thoughtfulness.
The location is quiet and private and the room was clean and well set up. The cooktop had a crack but we didn’t need it anyway.
- Tim (9/5): Great location for exploring the Clare Valley. - Great location, clean and tidy. Good base for exploring the area. Recommended. NA
- Adam (10/5): Loved the unit and the town and hope to return before too long . - The breakfast was a basic continental , which was all we were expecting and totally fine . A complimentary bottle of wine was provided , which was a nice touch . The location next to the pub was also helpful . We really enjoyed our stay and hope to get back there one day . There was nothing to dislike but an information manual on where to find local historical places etc would be great , along with some instructions on how to work the TV ( which we sorted ). Brody did give us a few tips to get us going . I would probably put some potted colour on the outside terrace just to jazz it up a little but it's not a major issue .
- Margaret (9/5): Superb -
- Jackie (9/5): Superb -
- Guest (8/5): Comfortable & very convenient with dinner next door . Attractive town to walk around - Spacious , clean , comfortable/ firm bed. Great shower. Well appointed. No hot water in kitchen sink & no tea towel to aid washing up. Draining rack impractical for glasses. Some local tips could have been helpful.
- Monique (8/5): Very good - A very spacious appartment with seperate bed and livingroom/kitchenette area. Communication with the owner was easy and arrival time flexible. The unit was modern with a nice shower and toilletries. Complimentary breakfast was nice and a bottle of wine a nice bonus! The pub a few doors down was lovely and served nice pub meals. A good place to stay in Mitaro for 1 or 2 nights to explore the area. We personally prefer a bigger bed, but queensize is standard in Australia. Personally, we would also have preferred slightly thinner pillows, but that's very personal.
No hesitation to recommend if you are looking for something in the area and the facilities as described/depicted meet your needs.
- Kate (10/5): Exceptional -
- Denise (10/5): Exceptional -
- Helen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Melissa (7/5): Good - The wine in the fridge was a nice touch. Bathroom was clean and big although a shelf that was a big bigger to be able to put your toiletry bag on would have been even better, instead of having to put it on the floor. I found the gate lock to be very difficlut to open. It might need some WD40? I tired it over ten times before it finally opened. In the morning I also found it difficult to get out of the property due to the gate lock being quite stuck. Perhaps it also was the extreme heat on the day that made it worse.
- Rashele (9/5): Gorgeous historical location with beautiful clean facilities. - It was so easy to get into the residence. It was really clean and comfortable I really enjoyed the stay. There is nothing I can fault in the accommodation because it was really beautiful. One thing that would have been nice was an iron and ironing board as I was staying for business.
- Sally (8/5): Very nice, relaxing and close to the pub that does amazing meals - Good location
Comfy
Includes breakfast in price
Quite Our gps threw us of track so we had a technical hiccup finding the place but after a helpful phone call everything got easily sorted
- Veronica (9/5): A lovely relaxing environment to prepare myself for a busy day of work. - Lovely and peaceful and quiet. Tastefully renovated and very comfortable. N/A
- Sara (9/5): Beautiful quaint and quiet - Spacious, big shower, comfortable lounge and bedroom. Very private and secure. Breakfast food provided. Pub right next door and weekends have the coffee shop for breakfast. Mintaro is the most beautiful little town. A short drive to the wineries and Riesling trail Nothing comes to mind
- Patric (9/5): Perfect for a short visit to the Clare Valley wine region - The apartment was top. A lot of space and equipped with everything one needs, with the exception of a washing machine. Other than that, top! Clean and comfy. There is even an outdoor seating (after cleaning) and parting right in front of the entrance. Breakfast was a bit simple. 4 slices of bread (per day), butter, spreads and cereals. Host showed goodwill though. A washing machine would make this place 100% complete.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - Nice rustic building. Good location close to the pub.
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michelle (10/5): Amazing accom in an amazing little town! - This place is amazing! Everything is thought of and it’s the most beautiful historic building glammed up so tastefully. Mintaro is a superb little town with excellent places to go out for meals and excellent wineries to visit. We had an awesome time here!!
- Sara (9/5): Nice spot in Mintaro - Nice little apartment in Mintaro Limited breakfast
- Ann (8/5): Thoroughly enjoyed the location, and the accommodation was very high quality and comfortable. - Continental breakfast was very nice. There is no shop in Mintaro, so I wish I'd taken (more) tea bags and some fruit. Nothing.
- Brett (8/5): Enjoyed our stay - Facilities were good, nice to have a dishwasher although plates didn’t fit, great location. Bed was uncomfortable
- Jeffrey (7/5): Comfortable apart from smelly air conditioner. - Breakfast was OK. Location was good There was a bad odour coming from the air conditioner, was very musky. I think it needed servicing? Had to put extractor fan on in bathroom to help reduce severity of the smell.
- Shreethi (9/5): Superb - Quiet and peaceful despite being just off the main street Nothing to complain about
- Steve (10/5): Exceptional - Clean, spacious, well located, everything provided, a/c was on when we arrived which on an extremely hot day was greatly appreciated. We only stayed overnight but could easily stay a few days as the property was well set up to be self sufficient if you chose The wife was concerned there was no additional toilet paper (even though we did not run out), tea bags were 'weak', nothing of any real concern, perhaps a couple of additional bed pillows?
- Christopher (10/5): Exceptional -
- Blake (10/5): It had everything we needed and was nice and peaceful - Everything about the place was great, couldnt fault anything
- Kirsty (10/5): Beautiful stay in a clean well converted stables - A wonderful place to stay to explore, very convenient for the local pub and cellar door. The accommodation had everything you would need, as well as a complimentary bottle of wine which was much appreciated and breakfast. Would defiantly recommend
- Veronica (9/5): Superb -
- Patrick (9/5): Perfect, magical getaway in a beautiful historic town - across from pub and a winery. - What a magical little hideaway. Just behind the pub in Mintaro, 15 minute drive to Clare. Free bottle of wine on arrival, large shower, comfy bed, free wi-fi, big TV with access to streaming services, breakfast provisions. Perfectly placed power outlets. A great eye for detail. Looking forward to our next visit! Honestly can't think of anything at all. It's the perfect weekend getaway and very reasonable priced.
- Francis (10/5): Fantastic location for Clare Valley travels - Plenty of space and very neat and tidy. Had difficulty opening gate with the code supplied. Not sure if lock faulty or code changed but managed to open by other means..
