Guest Reviews
- NICOLA ELIZABETH (1/5): Awful experience, would not recommend - Absolutely nothing On a Street Lined with Rubbish – Far from Luxury and Very Disappointing
We booked this property to celebrate a friend’s 40th birthday, expecting something comfortable and special, but it fell far below expectations. The property is on a street lined with rubbish and smelled strongly of pets throughout — a clear insight into what you’re getting into.
Inside, it was poorly maintained: dirty scuff marks covered the walls, the fireplace was not securely attached, the toilet was loose, the shower curtain was mouldy, and the rail kept falling. There was a hole in the ceiling, broken headboards, sinking mattresses, and no blinds or curtains in several rooms. The bed sheets even appeared to have been previously used.
The “dining table” was actually a pool table with a piece of wood placed on top, and there weren’t enough chairs for six people. It’s advertised as a cottage, but it’s really just a terraced house. The kitchen lacked basic equipment, and the back door was broken.
The outside space was equally poor: mouldy, soaking wet garden cushions, animal faeces, a tiny rusty barbecue, and a blow-up hot tub with a strong stagnant smell — nothing like the luxury described. Parking was virtually non-existent.
We reported all of this immediately after arrival, but the owner was completely dismissive. For the price and for such a special occasion, this was incredibly disappointing.
Would absolutely not recommend.
- Karen (5/5): - It was deceiving of where it was located. Parking a real problem.
- Dawn (1/5): We left a day early, not clean, hot tub freezing cold - Not clean, hot tub didn’t work, pool table unplayable, pillow case stained, laundry basket overflowing in kitchen, tumble dryer no where to be found. Host acknowledged issues but refused refund.
- Lauren (9/5): A really good stay - I booked this property without reading the reviews and I’m glad I did. The reviews have definitely been exaggerated a little. We only stayed for one night but we had access to the hot tub and the pool table is a really nice touch on the property. The neighbours we’re super friendly. The only thing that let this property down is that there are no double beds which is something you would of had in a three bedroom cottage. It would be nice if you would put in the description a-bit more detail about the location because you don’t state that the cottage is on a housing estate with quite a few rows of terraces houses.
- Christina (4/5): -
- Damien (1/5): I would not recommend this property based on our experience. After booking, we were told the hot tub wouldn’t be availab - Nothing! Everything!
- Betsan (7/5): - Value for money Beds were not comfortable
- Bhavik Patel (1/5): - Pool table for playing Not good for long and short stay.
Not properly clean mattrasses, comfort and some heater was not worked properly.
Not good for safety as specially for Toilet, washroom and living room door were not fitted door locks.
- Zac (1/5): -
- Boyles (8/5): - The house was nice and well size for the money .
I liked the garden and got hot tub, the pool/table tennis was also good and shower/bath was good. Kitchen well equipped. Sonny was very responsive and helpful. Like how the key check in worked. Nothing too much Didnt like...umm, maybe time it took for hot tub as we couldn't use it Monday and parking.
But the mattresses on the Beds not comfy at all. Could do with an actual double in one room.
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional - The host was really quick to reply with any queries. The house was lovely and the hot tub made it a little extra special Parking
- Suraj (1/5): Host makes us disappointed. - To be honest , it wasn’t the same Brynhyfryd cottage as we keen on site .it was totally different . It looks more like scam .we had a little laugh .well Let’s come to to service . Firstly cleaning was so bad . Bed were smelling horrible . There was no towels , bath rope , toilet roll . Hot tube was very dirty . There was human hair and dead insects in tube . There no private parking . Hardly manage to park on street . Our holiday was worst ever .
- Leanne (10/5): Sonny side up 🙃 - We had a fantastic weekend stay at Brynhyfryd Cottage. The house was in good condition and had everything we needed. The hot tub and pool table were a bonus, and we very much enjoyed the chilled out atmosphere. Nice views from the garden/sun trap. The garden was well secured, and our dog had fun enjoying the views and sunbathing, too. Lots of lovely walks around. Some start from the end of the road. Brecon beacons right there. Conveniently situated. Our host, Sonny, was fantastic. He made us feel very welcome and was on hand if we needed anything. That we only had 3 days/nights there!
- Kate (1/5): Revolting and dangerous. - Absolutely nothing. The whole place is a house of horrors and the surrounding area is just as bad. We actually came home early as we couldn't stand to stay there. Everything!! This is the worst place I've ever stayed in. Holes in the walls, dirty, hot tub took two days to get remotely warm then when we went to get in, it was filthy!! My young son found a sex game on the games shelf!! I've now had to explain to him what sex is. My daughters bed was sinking in the middle. Lifted the mattress and there was a hole in the bed!! Behind the back gate was full of bags of rubbish and other bits of rubbish just thrown over. The office upstairs has a loft without a hatch!! No curtains up in any of the bedrooms. One bedroom has no blind, the other one did but it was broken. When ever we wanted to close or open it, it would break!! The area was not quiet at all. People shouting outside and bags of rubbish lining the streets. What was described as a positive area is actually a poverty stricken estate which did not feel safe! I paid almost £400 for this stay and I am absolutely disgusted by the state of the property. The owner has a bit of paper on the wall with the WiFi code that does not work and places to visit. The pub they describe is derelict!! The whole place is a hazard and should not be allowed to be a holiday let. Vile vile place. I have requested a refund however, the owner has not replied so I've had to get customer services involved. If you're into getting conned, this is the place. If not, I strongly recommend you find somewhere else.
- Paul (8/5): Lovely traditional Welsh village house - Well positioned for what we wanted, clean and tidy with everything we needed. Great communication before and after with the owner.
- Beth (8/5): Overall we really enjoyed our nights stay and was a great end to our trip. Thank you! - It was available same day as booking, very clean and had everything we needed to cook dinner and entertain us for the night. The Hot tub was great and we enjoyed a game of pool before bed. Although we didn’t stay in the area for long, looked like a quiet but good place to stay for local activities and lots of info was given. The beds could be a lot comfier and could provide At least one double? Okay for one night last minute. You could tell it was maybe a house set up for hen/stag dos.
Oven didn’t work so had to use the grill.
- Corey (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gareth (9/5): Quirky house with pool table, hot tub and great view - Stayed here for one night with my wife and three kids when we visited the awesome Tower Zipworld nearby. Lovely, quirky place with amazing back garden view, all we needed for a relaxing evening and peaceful sleep. Handy convenience store ten minutes walk away, great Italian in Aberdare (10 mins drive) and stunning climb up the mountain over the road in the morning. Plus the hot tub and pool table kept the kids very happy! Lovely owner who sorted us out beautifully. Highly recommend. House was on a floor but that was part of the charm!
- Donna (1/5): Grim. The worst I’ve ever experienced. - Nothing. Wow, where do I start. Firstly, it’s a terraced house on a housing estate. Bags and bags of bins lined the streets so that was a lovely start. Parking is pot luck.
We received a ‘welcome’ message during the day from Sonny to say there were fresh towels and bedding throughout - bare minimum I would suggest for any property. However we could tell straightaway that the bedding hadn’t been changed and on closer inspection they all smelt dirty from the previous guests (not sure how far back we’re going either and how many different guests had slept on them - see previous review - they smelt that bad). I didn’t dare look at the bottom sheets.
There were two threadbare towels for 5 guests - one sheet and one towel - oh and two hand towels, how kind.
The kitchen floor had bits all over it where it hadn’t been hoovered or washed.
The toilet was dirty (photos attached) - again how many guests had gone through it, is anyone’s guess.
The hot tub was the pièce de résistance. As we were only staying for one night, we directly transferred Sonny £30 (big mistake) in order for him to ‘clean’ and get the hot tub ready for us. Bear in mind, this changed from £30 to £35 between talking on air BnB and booking. com. That should have been the first red flag. The hot tub was the main reason we had booked this property and the kids were really excited. Well, when we lifted the hot tub the smell that hit us was absolutely foul. I can only describe it as a fousty, mildew, mixed with gone off vegetables. Not a cleaning agent in sight. In fact one of our kids said it smelt of broccoli. The water had a green tinge to it and there was a film of grime floating on the surface. I’ve tried to take photos (attached). It was a health and safety hazard and there was no way my kids were setting foot in that tub. They would have almost certainly got ill. It was truly disgusting.
I called Sonny and explained the issues and said we would be leaving the property.
- Jessika (1/5): Avoid at all costs. - The size of the property. How long have we got? The shoddy attempt at customer service or the lack of accountability when a complaint comes in within minutes of the customer checking into the property?
The cleaner due to personal reasons as confirmed by the owner, accepting no one came to the property to clean. We were expected to sleep in the same beds as other guests the day before? Disgusting and completely unhygienic. The previous guests food and drinks left on the side. Washing up still left out. No towels left out. The owner instructed us over the phone to gain access to the very top shelf and grab a key to get towels out of the storage cupboard. A group of girls who could not reach this high, we had to stand ontop of a chair causing health and safety had one of us fell due to this request of the owner.
We paid additional for the hottub to be used yet due to a cleaner not being there before, it wasn't full to the correct level and it wasn't hot either, so again something else not maintained.
I spoke to Sonny (owner) upon checking in, through out the night I rang him yet I started to notice even though he promised he would get someone in tonight, he never did and he continously ignored my calls, WhatsApp and messages through the booking.com app.
Sonny had absolutely no issues contacting me the following morning though to just remind me of the check out time, how considerate..
Again, I aired that we were in the least bit happy with the cleanliness of the property, especially the beds and sonny assured me he understood exactly how I felt as he would also feel the same.. Yet tell me why after 2 months I'm still being ignored by Sonny and why he is also ignoring my refund requests that booking.com have put in on my behalf??
Honestly just save your money and a headache and just do not bother booking this place. Absolutely not worth it.
- Williams (1/5): Bad - someone was clearly staying at the property. when i arrived the house was left untidy and not clean. the main bedroom with the double bed was un made as if someone had been sleeping in there, so i did not sleep in the bed, overall very poor.
- Michael (1/5): Never again - Easy entry but parking was terrible. Owner is a nice guy and I can’t knock him in any way House was absolutely awful. Dirty, no blinds on windows, stains everywhere, kitchen facilities dirty and old, one towel for us both, shower curtain and rail broken, shower head had to be balanced to make it actually useable, sofa’s are harder than the effort it took to smile during this stay. We also had to make our own beds, moving the bed sheets from a room with no blinds, into the only room that had blinds. Never had a stay like it. Owner was a nice guy but that house is not the place you’d want to be. Great place to suggest to anyone you don’t like though. Overall 2/10. Sorry but this needs a whole load of improvement before it should be classified as a good stay.
- Darnell (10/5): Exceptional - The property was clean and spacious. It definitely was an enjoyable stay. There were lots of games such as the pool table that doubled up so that we could play table tennis, more importantly turn it into a dining table. There were ample utensils for your culinary needs, which made cooking enjoyable. The property was on a quiet road on top of a mountain. The views seen from different areas made for a great appreciation for the surrounding areas. The host was very friendly and easy to get into contact with. There were not a lot of things that I didn't like. A couple of notable things to mention. Noticed in one of the rooms, there was a missing cover for the loft. Another thing that was unfortunate for our stay was that the hot tub had a change filter alert, meaning I couldn't get it to work. In the end, I didn't get to enjoy it, but the facilities that the property had made up for it.
- Shannon (1/5): Bad - I did not stay at property was supposed to be a cottage with hit tub but it was terraced house and no hot tub Everything
- Nishat (7/5): Good -
- Jodi (6/5): Pleasant -
- Morgan (4/5): Disappointing - The place was OK but it's a house and not a cottage The ad for this is very misleading and whilst the home itself was OK, it is a house and not a cottage at all, I read some of the reviews before we went and thought I'd just see for myself but the house is on the middle of an estate, it is not a good area at all. Neighbours arguing and shouting in the street constantly, motorbikes up and down the street all the time, we arrived there at around 4pm for a 2 night stay and we decided to leave the property at 8pm the same day, we just went home, the street is very clicky especially with where you park your car, we didn't feel safe there
- Klaudia (7/5): Good enough if you are on a budget - House was ok and clean. Close to lovely walking trails. Very difficult to park a car, narrow roads, very dirty on the streets and narrow streets with car parked everywhere. Only single beds, unstable floor upstairs.
- Aimee (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was so nice and clean hosts were lovely and helpful Everything was perfect Thankyou
- Kaylee (1/5): Awful Experience - Honestly, one of the worst Airbnb experiences I’ve had. The place was disgusting—there were bodily fluids on the duvets, blood stains, and hair everywhere. It was beyond gross and clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly.
On top of that, the listing advertised a hot tub, which was a big reason I booked. But after confirming the reservation, I got a message saying the hot tub isn’t available for one-night stays. Funny how that detail magically appears after you’ve already paid. If I’d known that, I never would’ve booked in the first place.
Super disappointed with both the cleanliness and the sneaky, misleading info. Would not recommend.
- Williams (1/5): Bad - Booked last minute spoke to the owner to be told he could not accommodate us due to cleaning no hot tub available as advertised very dissatisfied Very unprofessional
- Carys (5/5): Was okay for a one night stay but would not recommend and unfortunately will not be returning - The property was on a busy street so very hard to park, it was a house but is stated “cottage” in the name there was a few things off putting such as hair ball by the fireplace and a used plaster next to one of the beds the hot tub was not available for one night stays which was said to be in the description but was not visible enough for me to see
- Matthew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Watkins (10/5): Good quiet place to stay with friends lots of enjoyment in the house 10/10 would stay again - The hot tub and the pool table Hard to find
- Sofia (10/5): Perfect homely fun getaway! - The hot tub and pool table were a great added touch to the property with great views! Was a perfect place to gather the family in one location!
The house was also decorated lovely for Christmas which made the stay extra special
- Elise (10/5): Very enjoyable, would visit again. - The views from the property were really stunning. And the area the property is in was very quiet and peaceful. The bedrooms were a decent size and comfortable. We had a lot of fun with the ping pong/pool table and overall it was modern and clean. The host was fab with communication and allowed us to go to the property early and explained where a nice walk was straight outside of the property. We were not able to use the hot tub in the evening due to our own mistake when booking but the host was very kind and resolved this for us without us even asking.
- Jodi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Damien (1/5): Avoid... - Leaving the property Upon arrival to the property it was apparent that the description and photography used within the listing was somewhat inaccurate. The property was listed as if it was luxurious, sortafter and in a secluded location. The images show the property in a good light however in reality it has been finished to a low standard and wasn't worth the money we have paid. The rear of the property backs onto an estate with low fences all round and the neighbours look right into the property. The listing images have been taken from a low angle pointing up to the hills to make it look as if the property is in a secluded location. The interior images again show from a good angle but fail to show the rest of the property where an old unit has been left in the kitchen area, poorly finished lounge with weak flooring near the table, the main bedroom has no window covering such as blinds or curtain. The property which is old I appreciate, has many angles to the landings and floors and it feels unsafe to walk around. Even the banister to the landing is on an angle, doesn't look or feel safe. Poor quality to the sofas in the lounge area far from luxury, more student accomodation. There was a heavy smell of drugs in the air, locals outside drinking, kids going up and down the road on crosser style bikes, loud neighbours running up and down the stairs which you could hear. We didn't even feel safe with the local surroundings to unload the car, let alone open the blinds in the front room which are closed to block the appalling view out front, or even use the outside facilities such as the hot tub as it is overlooked by the neighbours a far cry from the photos listed. I find it hard to see how this listing has made it this far and the response from the owner said he has never had anyone leave, however following on other site the reviews of the property which I wish I had read to save me the hassle reiterate our points even people leaving early.
- Ellie (5/5): Wouldn’t book again. - Overall the property was clean and modern, the view of the valleys from the back garden was amazing, games table was a good extra too the property had everything you needed, which can’t be faulted. HOT TUB - we booked a 2 night stay, the main reason we booked this property was for the hot tub, only to be told on the day of our arrival that it was emptied that morning and refilled for us and would take a few hours to heat back up, we received this message at 1pm, upon arrival at 6pm the hot tub was still cold and unusable, much to our disappointment after a long day travelling it was still cold by midnight, After contacting the host he said there is nothing he could do and said that it states in the description that this would of been the case when there wasn’t anything to say the hot tub wouldn’t be able to be used for the first night of our stay, unable to offer any sort of refund for the inconvenience, we decided not to stay on the 2nd night.
Description also states that you are 20 minutes away from Cardiff when it’s actually a 40/45 minute drive away.
- Elizabeth (3/5): Not as advertised. - It was a nice house, just not what was advertised, if you are looking for a location to have a party with friends it is perfect, just not for a family with young children. The advert reads like it is in a remote location, quiet, private parking (was met with abuse and swearing trying to park) and was on an estate, with heavy drug use, arguing, fighting, abuse, vandalism and with a door that didn't unlock so could access the best part of the property, you can see it had been recently damaged to break in. The toilet seat had a hole in (the owner did call me to let me know this so this isnt a complaint, just wish I had cancelled at that point). A few crosser bikes roared up the streets all day and night, causing alarms to go off at all hours. The advert claimed to have around 20/30 amenities that it didn't have, so unless you are literally looking for a house with no extras like is advertised I would look elsewhere. We left early after listening to the 5th aggressive argument outside.
- Łukasz (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing view , spa and that we could you a pool and table tenis Few things to fix , like a toilet seat which was a bit broken but other than that all really good
