Guest Reviews
- Michael (10/5): -
- Shelley (10/5): - Beautiful cottage, responsive hosts
- Gary (9/5): Wonderful stay - Well situated for the park but there was noise from the road which is a shame. A beautifully maintained 17th century cottage with great features. Nothing
- Clare (10/5): - Great location for visiting Yorkshire Sculpture park.
Cosy, clean and warm cottage. Comfortable sofa and beds.
- michelle (10/5): Absolutely beautiful cottage you wont want to leave. - We stayed for 2 nights.
This really is an exception little get away. Its absolutely adorable, and as soon as you walk in your blown away. The decoration is so complimentary to the original features. We just fell in love with your little cottage. We loved the feature like the log burner, and we love the old system water for a proper shower! The garden is absolutely beautiful.
The neighbours were so lovely and welcoming. Particularly the older (young at heart) couple on the end.
The update and welcome folder was easy to read and follow.
Its truly a beautiful cottage, in a beautiful area and we feel so honoured you share it with others. It made us feel so relaxed and back to our roots. We absolutely fell in love with the whole area.
Thank you for sharing your home with us ❤️ Leaving! 🥰
- Joan (10/5): Lovely property near to Yorkshire sculpture park - The only downside for us was the road noise and the speed of traffic. It's a shame for the village; it needs something to be done, I think
- David (10/5): Impressive Cottage - Lovely cottage. Furnished to a superior level. Very well equipped kitchen. Comfy beds and fantastic shower. The garden was well maintained with a nice seating area and bbq. Although by a busy road, traffic noise wasn’t an issue.
We stayed during the hottest days of the year so far, but the cottage remained cool throughout the day and night. Best kitchen window ventilation device ever!
Would like to come back in the winter as I imagine it would be a very cosy place to stay.
The snack-pack hamper was a great touch. Being 6'6" and my son 6'3", we had to be wary of the downstairs doorways. However, the lounge ceiling was high (impressive beamed ceiling), and the upstairs doorways were of normal dimensions.
- Sue (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (10/5): Perfect place in a peaceful spot, we all loved it - Everything, it was spotlessly clean, extremely comfortable and had all that we needed Not really a negative but being tall I soon learned to duck through some of the doorways
- Emily (8/5): Very good - The accommodation was lovely. Very clean, comfy beds, easy to find, lovely little garden. A very generous welcome hamper on arrival. The accommodation was very clean and looked freshly painted but there was a really horrible smell. I couldn't put my finger on what it was. Old food, grease, damp, slight cigarette smell it was really odd.
- Carey (10/5): Ideally placed. - In an excellent position to visit all the attractions in the area. It was very comfortable very clean and well equipped.
- Lee (10/5): perfect weekend break - stay was clean and comfortable lovely location. it felt life a proper break n/a
- Colleen (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (9/5): A lovely cottage with thoughtful festive touches for our ‘twixmas’ stay. Perfectly located for The Yorkshire Scultpure P -
- Mabbutt (8/5): It was convenient for what we wanted and we enjoyed our stay - We brought our own breakfast. The location was ideal for our family party at the Sculpture Park . The welcome pack was very much appreciated . The house felt quite cold when we arrived on Friday night though it was a very cold day. The fire was laid but it took quite a while to warm up.
- Joanne (10/5): Beautiful cottage with lots of thought and care, put into details for the age of the property. - Amazing quaint traditional cottage Finding the entrance was a little difficult as hidden away
- Gemma (10/5): A great weekend - Beautiful and well kept home. Lovely fireplace, nice and warm in every room. Lovely soft towels and bedding. Cute Kitchen with more than everything we needed. We will definitely stay again if we are in the area. Thank you to our hosts Not a "didnt like" but the towel rail in the bathroom wasnt secured properly and fell off as I grabbed the towel. it was in no way an issue I just didnt want you to think we had broke it. it looked as though it just needed a little screw under it to secure it. Also the milk packets had been opened and were off. Again I dont think it was purposeful from the host we just didnt want you to think it was us that did it. They will need checked as there may have been more than we noticed.
- Yvonne (9/5): Superb -
- Glenda (1/5): A massive disappointment. - Very little. The double bedroom is large and bright. Everything could have been better. Woodpecker Cottage was a disappointment from start to finish. Unkempt area around entrance, key in lock box on a scrappy plastic key fob, damp smell in entrance porch, dark poorly lit sitting room, not even a pint of milk in the fridge despite hamper being prominent on the website pics, aga door dirty on inside, freezer needs defrosting, impossible to control heating yourself (the thermostat is covered by plastic casing and you need to phone the owner to adjust it remotely)
The washbasin taps are loose.
Access in and out of the road which goes behind the property (the only way to access) is tricky as the main road you turn off and into is 60mph and a tricky bend just before the exit from the access road makes this a dangerous experience. Chopping the hedge back a little would help.
The cottage experienced loss of power on the morning of 23rd August as did most of the area. This was obviously out of the owner's control but their response when I notified them was not helpful. I needed to get ready for my son's wedding. No electricity/hot water etc/hot drink/breakfast because of this. The owner's response was to send me a link to the National Grid and a link to the Motorway services where the owner said I could get a shower. That was the end of their communication with me. Most unprofessional and unhelpful. I saw another neighbouring cottage owner visit their holiday makers with flasks of boiling water etc so they atleast could have hot drink. The owner of Woodpecker cottage did not contact me again to say when power was back on or to ask how we were coping. As a holiday property owner, you do have a duty of care to your occupants.
- Green (8/5): Great find, great shower and good location for the Sculpture Park. - Lovely cottage, well equipped, clean and has a fabulous shower. A good location for the Sculpture Park.

- Victoria (9/5): Superb -
- Matthew (8/5): Very good -
- Frank (10/5): lovely little house in a lovely part of England - lovely home in a wonderful surrounding, walking distance to the terrific Yorkshire sculpture park, everything you need is there - highly recommended that we just had 2 nights :-)
- Bronwen (9/5): Roomy comfortable cottage stay - Lovely cottage. Surprisingly roomy living room with lovely bay window and with very efficient multi fuel burner. Comfy beds. Incredibly clean throughout and hosted with attention to detail. Off road parking. Nothing!
- Louise (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gabriela (10/5): I would like to return. - Very clean, warm and lovely. Beautiful bathroom and great log burner. Very well equipped kitchen. Nothing
- Catherine (10/5): Superb - Character of property and location
- Matthew (9/5): Superb -
- Emily (10/5): Exceptional -
- Charlotte (5/5): Highly disappointing experience considering the amount paid! - Nice interior and good water pressure. Too noisey! The traffic outside is constant, and it is very audible from the master bedroom and living room.
No welcome basket as shown in the photos.
The garden also isn't peaceful as it's next to the main road.
The temperature of the property isn't controllable, this is managed by the hosts which I have never experienced before.
Terrible time checking in, it took calling Booking.com to get the key safe code.
In my entire experience of booking places to stay, I have never written a negative review. It was very dissapointing.
- Adam (10/5): Lovely cottage, quite and peaceful - Charming, beautiful cottage, top notch shower. Very comfortable and homely. Short drive from the M1 Nothing
- Huong (10/5): A perfect little cottage in the countryside - Beautiful little cottage in a quiet area. Parking right outside the door.
Gorgeous interior and spotlessly clean. The place smells of flowers and there’s a real fireplace! We loved that it heated up the house so quickly and was already set up for us as we’ve never used one before, that was a big bonus.
The bathroom has a really powerful shower.
Beds are really comfortable and there was two types of pillows to choose from (firm sand soft) which I really appreciated.
