• Marco (10/5): The absolute best time and best host! - The best host, 10 mins away from port. Beautiful apartment so much space and it has everything you need! We had the best couple of days here and I could recommend this stay any more!

• Marian Mae (10/5): - This is my second visit to Hydra. I stayed centrally during my 1st visit and I was looking for something away from the very touristy areas and Smaragda's place was just the perfect location. We loved the terrace with the view of the city and then very close access to the viewpoints from above Hydra. The apartment is also fully equipped especially the kitchen so ideal if you want to cook every now and then so ideal for more than 2 days stay. The place is quite a walk from the port so you should be ready for that but Smaragda offers to contact donkey ride if you have luggage (for a small fee). The place is very clean and she provided us with fresh oranges and lemon from her garden. How lovely! I also left a pair of pants and she arranged, very kindly, to bring with her to Athens when she came by.

• Camille (9/5): Un vrai petit paradis hydriote - Petite maison très spacieuse et confortable, avec de nombreux équipements disponibles, et une hôte très agréable et très serviable. La terrasse offre une vue magnifique sur les collines d’Hydra. Il y a tout ce qu’il faut pour passer un excellent séjour : salon, salle à manger, double vitrage (on n’est même pas réveillé par le coq du matin), café, oranges et citrons du jardin, petits biscuits et les précieux conseils de l’hôte. il y a même une petite épicerie à proximité, Vraiment super. Tout était super mais, s’il fallait trouver des détails à améliorer : le matelas est un peu dur et les casseroles ne semblent pas forcément adaptées à des plaques à induction. Les marches pour monter depuis le port peuvent être un obstacle pour certains mais pas pour nous.

• Lindsey (9/5): Beautiful apartment, lovely host! - This is an awesome place in a quiet corner of town with a fabulous and caring host. We had everything we needed and then some and were incredibly cozy at this apartment! It might just have been some poor weather and cloud cover causing it, but the wifi was really not working well at all during our stay, and I couldn’t use my phone as a hotspot because I had very poor cell reception inside the house.

Smaragda vous accueille comme si vous étiez de sa famille et vous soigne aux petits oignons avec plein de petites attentions et de conseils sur Hydra. Sa gentillesse et son sens de l'accueil se reflète sur le logement qu'elle propose car tout y est parfait. Propreté impeccable et logement super bien équipé ! Terrasse spacieuse avec magnifique vue sur ce magnifique village. Au plaisir de te revoir Smaragda :-)

Hydra has a lot of steps and she organized a donkey to pick us up and take us back to port with our luggage. Would definitely recommend! It is about a 15 minute walk from the port. We found it charming to walk through town, however.
• Mary (10/5): Wonderful home in Hydra. - Smaragdas’s house felt like home. It was welcoming, spacious, beautifully decorated. To have two full bedrooms, plus a kitchen, dining room and living room was wonderful for 3 adults. The mattresses were very comfortable. The property was meticulously clean. The hiking on Hydra did not disappoint. I appreciated Smaragdas explaining the history and customs of the island as well. It was very quiet on the island being in the middle of winter. But there were numerous restaurants and lots of supermarkets open during our stay. The property is a 12-15 minutes walk from the port on cobblestone streets/alleys. Make sure you use google maps so you don’t get lost. Loved the location. But it might not be for people with limited mobility.

• Marion (10/5): Tolle Ferienwohnung auf malerischer Insel mit Superausblick - Ein wirklich wunderschönes Ferienhaus mit einer sehr liebevollen Vermieterin (Smaragda). Es sind zwar einige Stufen vom Hafen bis hier noch, aber dafür hat man einen tollen Blick von der großen Terrasse. Die Wohnung sieht genauso aus wie auf den Fotos abgebildet und Smaragda ist eine tolle Gastgeberin, die sich wirklich kümmert und mitdenkt. Wir würden sofort nochmal buchen! Nichts - alles bestens!

• Leonardo (10/5): Amazing experience - Amazing days in Hydra. The house was extremely well equipped and clean, and the host super attentive. Super Recommend it! If only one thing, it would be that it has some steps up the hill, so it’s harder for seniors.

• david (10/5): Delightful host and property!! - Smaragda was a wonderful host who was very helpful with everything. Our ferry to Hydra was cancelled and she was incredibly helpful in making sure we got there by alternative means. Views and location perfect. Smaragda organised Donkeys to meet us at the port to get our luggage to our accommodation and again when we left. It’s a bit of a hike up the hill so would highly recommended that service if you have luggage.
• Jannie (10/5): Droomverblijf bij Smaragdas Paradise - Een fantastisch comfortabel huis met een enorm panoramisch terras. Smaragda heeft ons bij ontvangst wegwijs gemaakt in het huis en over het eiland. Er zijn twee mini markets op loopafstand. We hebben dankbaar gebruik gemaakt van de mogelijkheid onze bagage 🧳 met ezel naar boven te laten brengen. Het zijn veel trappen, maar het went. Er was voldoende water, koffie etc aanwezig. Kortom een compleet huis, zeker voor mensen die reizen met rugzak of kleine koffers. Bonus: het huis ligt haast om de hoek van het Leonard Cohen huis. Prachtige wandeling vanuit huis naar één van de twee havens met mooie wandelroutes langs de kust. Afhaalrestaurant Annita’s zeer aan te bevelen voor als je bij huis wilt eten. En last but not least Smaragda ! Alles was meer dan oké 👌
• Cec (10/5): Relaxing, no cars. - We liked being met by the Host with keys in hand. We got an orientation of the property from someone who spoke and understood English. While we lived closeby, the Host extended the courtesy to check on our stay. Good Customer Service in our opinion. The comments on Booking.com said the dwelling was a "short walk to the beach". It was quite a long walk. Thank goodness the water taxi to the closest beach was only $10. A short, beautiful ferry ride to a place we could buy refreshments and eats for a reasonable price.
• Herman (10/5): Prachtig ruim appartement met een eigenaresse die alles voor je wil doen. - Superschoon, ruim appartement met twee ruime slaapkamers, goede badkamer, woonkamer en keuken. Tevens een heel groot terras met prachtig uitzicht over Hydra en de bergen. De locatie is prachtig maar alleen bereikbaar door ongeveer 300 traptreden. Neem een muilezel in de haven als je bagage hebt!!

La seule chose est qu’elle est située en hauteur, à 15 minutes du port à pieds. Il faut vouloir et aimer marcher !

As a local, she gave us recommendations on where to swim and eat, and we were not disappointed. The place is very spacious, spotlessly clean, with every amenity one might need. The fridge was stocked with water bottles and lemons from the garden, and the bathroom had all kinds of cleaning products and toiletries. Thank you, Smaragda, for a wonderful experience! ❤️

The enormous terrace is a super place to sit & enjoy the calm of the island. Thank you again Maragda we could have stayed all Summer. There really is nothing to dislike.

We wanted for nothing, drinking water, coffee, washing liquid and toilet essentials were all provided. The most caring and generous host I think I have ever experienced… can’t recommend it enough. There was nothing not to like, it is quite a walk up from the harbour but it means an easy walk to Karminia and great views.

The house is very well prepared, with everything you might need, to cook, clean, wash clothes, bath, etc, and decorated with great care. You can feel the care and love the hostess puts into it, as well as the welcome she gives you. She can tell you all about the island, the places to go and all the history of the place. She is lovely and you can feel the earnest dedication to make you feel at home. The terrace is a highlight, with a wonderful view and a private feeling to enjoy. We will definitely be coming back. Her place is amazing and you leave - Lovely apartment with an amazing view and warm hospitality from Smaragda. All the details are taken care of and it feels like home. Hydra has many stairs so be prepared for them at any place you stay.

The house was very clean, spacious with all equipment you might need during your stay. There was a big terrace, and we liked the comfortable beds. Getting here requires climbing some stairs and turns or corners, but you won't be dissapointed :) Everything was great and superb!
• Julie (10/5): Absolutely loved our time here in a real paradise! - A wonderful place and a wonderful hostess! Spent a week there with my family in September, the hostess Smaragda is so accommodating, full of knowledge about the local area, thought of every possible comfort including breakfast things waiting for us, bottled water for the entire stay, local tea and treats in the kitchen, and lessons on how to make Greek coffee :-) Communication was excellent throughout our stay and the washing machine was a real perk. Smaragda arranged for a donkey driver to meet us at the ferry, which was especially necessary as we came in on the last ferry after dark. Mornings looking over the valley were exquisitely peaceful. Do note that you can expect a lot of stairs to get there, but that is simply Hydra. We would come back here in a heartbeat! Everything was perfect.

The hostess is genuinely kind and responsive and went to great lengths to ensure we felt at home and had everything we needed. We will come back for sure! PS. Smaragda made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. Donkey pick up & drop off of luggage is a must due to the countless steps in Hydra which Smaragda can organise for you. We couldn't fault anything, absolutely loved our stay & we would definitely return in a heart beat.

The property was very clean and had more things than you needed. The hike up to the property in the heat of day was something else. But smaragdas provided us with plenty of cool drinks when we arrived.

The apartment is complete with any and all amenity you could ask for: washing machine, full kitchen, dining area, seating area, and beautiful patio. Make sure you make contact with the hostess BEFORE taking ferry to the island. She is super accommodating and willing to meet you with donkeys to carry luggage. I HIGHLY recommend doing this as versus trying to find her hideaway on your own.

It was a bit of a walk up the hills (recommend you use the donkey service both ways), but was so peaceful in the morning and during our midday rest. We were glad we were not “in town.” Loved sitting on the patio- especially in the evening. Our hostess was wonderful and could not be more helpful for all our needs. We loved this place. I was told that “Hydra is a vacation from your Greek vacation,” and this place had it all! We liked it all.

Our host was super helpful in making sure we could find our way back in the evening after dinner, we were sent short videos of the route! Plugs for the sinks or a washing up bowl for the kitchen sink.

• Anonymous (10/5): Exceptionally cozy and comforting, didnt feel like leaving! - Beautifully furnished, with a lovely view and all possible amenities. It was a bit of a trek from the main port so might not be idea for people with difficulties in walking up uneven paths.

• Brian (9/5): Lovely apartment with a great view of Hydra town - Clean, spacious apartment, with lovely views from the terrace area. The owner (a lady called Smaragda) lives next door and she could not be more kind and helpful. Kitchen facilities all work well and the dining area is very pleasant. It is approximately a 10 minute walk to the central port area of Hydra, with many steps. The beaches are a bit further away but the coastal walking trails are beautiful. The apartment is close enough to the buzz of Hydra town, but also far enough away that it remains quiet. The bed in the double room is a bit small (?4 or 4.5 feet wide). Also the shower curtain rail is not properly fixed to the wall, it comes off easily, these are minor things, it is a lovely apartment overall.

• Chris (9/5): Hydra was a beautiful island to visit. - The property had everything you need, full kitchen, nice large bathroom, air con in every room. Spacious and clean. The owner is cheerful and helpful willing to accommodate you where they can. Can’t fault the property, We were welcomed and transferred with Mules from the ferry to the property, (luggage was put on the mules) included in the accommodation cost, but the transfer from the property to the port is not included, you will need to pay. A cost I did not expect as you would think the transfer down would also be included in the booking.
