- Emilie (8/5): Amazing safari with them !! - Excellent value for money!
Very clean. They are very friendly đđđ and accommodating!
They even stored our luggage for the day!
We highly recommend it!!
>>>We recommend doing the safari with the hotel managers because it was absolutely perfect. Again, fantastic value for money.
And the safari entrance is just down the street, a two-minute walk away.

- Simon (10/5): - Really nice, local feeling place. The guys that run it are both super lovely. Beautiful quiet location near the park entrance and near a lake to walk around and see birds.
- Lambrigger (9/5): - Die Lage!

's Avonds heerlijk gegeten. Top service!

- Samy_g (9/5): Superb -
- Callum (8/5): Very good -
- Sugee (7/5): Good - Overall everything good. Worth for the money..
The owner is genuine and friendly one.. Nothing
- Linea (8/5): Great location, air con and mosquito net - The staff that looked after the property was kind, he brought me tea and gave me advice on taking the bus into town. Location is near the National Park, easily a 5 min walk to the gate. Room was spacious, clean, air con was great, hot water, mosquito net was great. Nothing
- Kate (7/5): Basic but clean stopover for an early safari - This was a basic but clean and comfortable stop over for an early morning safari in Wilpattu National Park. The accommodation was no frills but the staff were friendly and helpful and we had a delicious meal of rice and curry the night we arrived.
You can walk to the gates of the national park in a matter of minutes so itâs a great spot if youâre doing a safari in the morning. We saw loads of animals including leopards, monkeys, crocodilesâŠ
You can also walk round a lovely lake which is on the doorstep.
Other than that though, there was not much within the immediate area, I donât think there was anywhere else to eat for example, within walking distance.
- Gideon (9/5): Superb - Nice place to visit Wilpattu national park. We were greeted by the host who was very nice and helpful. For the safari we really recommend the full day tour for the best experience, because the National park had a lot to offer with beautiful animals and nature.
- Caribe (3/5): Great location for Wilpattu safari, but pricing needs transparency - The location is perfect for exploring Wilpattu National Park. The guesthouse is surrounded by nature, making it a peaceful spot to relax before and after a safari. The staff was friendly, and the wildlife sightings around the property were a nice bonus. The final price was higher than initially quoted, which was an unpleasant surprise. It would be helpful if pricing was more transparent upfront. Additionally, the accommodation was basic, which is expected in a nature lodge, but certain facilities could be better maintained. Lastly, more dining options or flexibility in meal choices would enhance the overall experience.
- Ieva (6/5): Good location, but avoid the food there - Good location, decent room 1. The AC control wasnt working. You had two choices - fridge cold on or off completely. 2. When we left the facilities the owner charged us astronomical price for 2 dinners we had, which one of them was not requested by us. We felt scammed. Recommend getting dinner elsewhere, many options down the road.
- Gino (7/5): Handy for safari - The location is fab as you are within a short walk of the park gate. The staff are fantastic, kind and attentive. Food was excellent and tasty. They also prepared a Safari breakfast for us even though weâd booked the Safari directly. The roomâŠ.beds are awful and have none of the facilities mentioned on booking.com.
- William (4/5): Disappointing -
- Jasper (9/5): Well situated right next to the park entrance. Super cool remote spot for a great price. The hostel owner was incredibly - Well situated right next to the park entrance. Super cool remote spot for a great price. The hostel owner was incredibly lovely. Gave me a lift on his motorbike to the shop, as was the other staff member who played cards with us
- Anna (8/5): Perfect for safari - Perfect for the wilpattu safari
very nice to walk along the lake nearby in the evening
Friendly host
Very good dinner
Comfortable beds Otherwise not much around in that area
- Tanya (9/5): Nice budget friendly stay next to national park. Staff amazing and helped us a lot - Loved location and staff very helpful
- Hanne (7/5): Good - We had a great time at the hotel. Hidden in the trees and walking distance from the wild park.
The tour we had through the park was also super nice, unfortunately the guides English was not the best, but we managed all the way through and he was super polite :)
The hotel is a little bit dated, but still a lovely place to stay!
- Piotr (6/5): Close to the gate of National Park. - Close to the gate of the National Park, the host can organize the safari, close to the hotel is nice walking trail close to the park. Problem with hot water. Small room. No wifi.
- Henry (10/5): Exceptional - Air conditions and lovely food Nothing
- Iain (9/5): A good base for wildlifers. - Great location near NP gate and a couple of walks good for bird watching plus I had a close encounter with an elephant! Sisul is an excellent bird guide and very knowledgable about Wilpattu wildlife.
- Fabrice (8/5): Perfect location to access the park! - Susil and the personnel of the hotel are very kind.
The food proposed was good (one menu available only, typical from Sri Lanka).
Wilpattu Dolosmahe is walking distance (200 m) from Wilpattu National Park gate.
The beds are comfortable (good mastress) The bathroom decoration is a bit "old school"
- Preeyan (10/5): Exceptional -
- MarĂa (4/5): Disappointing -
- Tony (1/5): Unpleasant could get away quick enough. - Nothing Itâs a property which is obviously unloved and uncared for. The staff show no interest in the customer. It felt like we were an inconvenience. The bathroom was filthy. The water pipe to the toilet leaked. The whole place looked like no one had cleaned it in months. I would advise any travellers to avoid this guesthouse.
- Timon (10/5): Best location next to the national park - The dinner there was really good. You cannot get a better location, itâs 100m next to the entrance of the national park! The staff is super hospitalising! They can offer you safari drivers as well, for a really good price! -
- Josep (4/5): Disappointing - Very close to Wilpattu park entry shower and toilet not working properly. The place rather dirty: sticky floor, bathroom needed a complete cleaning,
All refrigerators were off so they had no coll drinks at all, not even water. Food was served cold as though they were recycling from the fridge Dahl, Rice and vegetables they remixed from previous meals.
They offered to organize the safari un Wilpattu and It was a complete disaster: driver kept on turning around t'he same trails on and on all morning and we only saw an Eagle, a few deers, birds and a couple of buffalo. At lunch time, other groups had seen elephants, crocodiles and other species so we told the driver to drive 1 hour and a half to the place other groups had been were we could at least see elephants. T'he Price 85US$ per person in a group of 5 people.
We feel this was a robbery
- Alex (10/5): Perfect for Safari - Great for the safari - the guide this hotel organises is great, eyes like a hawk. Kirthi and Susil were great and very helpful. You're literally 100m away from national park entrance and they have elephants walking past at nightoccasionally.
- Steven (6/5): Needs some love and attention - Close to wilpattu national park. Airconditioning worked well. Room is basic, but has the essentials. There is a lake close to the hotel which is really nice to walk to. Bathroom had a bad smell. The lobby looks like an empty shop. Not a nice place to sit or relax in. There is nothing to do in the area, so you have to eat at the hotel. There are no restaurants. The food was very basic, one time it was cold.
- Ricard (9/5): Superb - Perfect location and amazing food.
Personal very attentive to our needs, arranging the safari and the meals.
- Michelle (10/5): The perfect place to book your safari in Wilpattu - The location is near the entrance of Wilpattu and therefore perfect for safari. The host arranged an affordable safari for us, which was very nice. The food at the accommodation was delicious. The host was really friendly. He has much knowledge about the wildlife and is happy to share it with you!
- Frederik (7/5): Enjoyed our stay but i feel the guesthouse could be improved with more care. Great staff! - Friendly staff, breakfast and dinner is fine. Location is next to entrance of Wilpatu park (which is beautiful). Hot showers (even though the bathrooms look ancient). Booked 2 rooms, they are pretty basic, at one room the AC hardly worked the first night, second night the staff got it to work (more or less). Okaish clean. Bathrooms in both rooms 20+ years old, toilets have trouble flushing. Walls etc in the bathroom have not been cleaned for ages.
Place can be great, but feels like maintainance is tough. Ie, there is a nice rooftop sitting area but all the lightfittings have no lightbulbs. Also in the dinner area its kinda dark.
- Silke (8/5): Very good - Really nice people. Good spaceous room with airco. Delicious food. We only were missing the possibility to buy some drinks (beer, soft drinks).
- Elenatoni (8/5): Very kind staff and a nice location - The host was great and he was easy to talk to. He arranged dinner for us when we arrived late in the evening. The room was clean and equipped with a mosquito net. The accommodation is just a few minutes from the gate of the national park. bed was not comfortable
- Ann (9/5): Superb - The location at the entrance of the park.
Close to a lake where you could see animals.
Really nice and helpful owner. 1 bed was not comfortable.
- Chloe (8/5): Very good -
- Anda (9/5): Superb -
- Alison (9/5): Very chilled stay with an amazingly exciting safari. - The owner and staff are warm and very knowledgable about the area. They were so accommodating. It is less than 150m from Wilapattu national park . Itâs so peaceful and quiet. The meals they prepared were wonderful. They organised the whole safari for my daughter and I and our transition to go on to Our next destination.
- Miquella (10/5): Very nice - The host was amazing and easy to talk to. Arranged diner for us when we arrived late in the evening.
The room was clean and has a mosquito net. The homestay is a few minutes front the national park gate.
- Seema (7/5): Basic stay . Hotel owner and wife very nice - Very rural nothing really in locally.
- Prasanna (10/5): Exceptional - Close to Wilpattu park, Clean rooms, supportive staff, delicious food, Can have a safari with knowledgeable drivers
- Linda (6/5): We had a good nights sleep. - Location near the safari. No wifi, feels dark- but happy to have the mosquito net. The owner can also arrange a safari and it is a great place to see leopard and bears and elephants. Lots of animals.
- Nathaniel (10/5): Delicious dinner and awesome hosts - Basically next door to the park entrance, incredibly delicious Sri Lankan home cooked dinner, good room and Susil went out of his way to contact a petrol station that charged me ÂŁ100 on the way there, calling them and arranging for them to refund to his bank account and then giving me cash. Perfect place for a Safari. Highly recommend.
- Hugo (10/5): A lovely place to visit Willpatu National Park - Of you are looking for a calm and relaxing place in the middle of nature with amazing food, come to this spot. However a basic accomodation, it is very clean and had al the necessities. There are options for safari, and we even got some amazing photographs of the experience after, that our guide (who knew the park so well and could tell us all about the animals!) took with his camera. We took the school bus to the junction to continue our travels at 6:15, and our hosts even provisies is with a cup of coffee before we left, how caring and nice! None
- Aline (7/5): Good - We arrived in the afternoon and could do the safari with Susil the next day. We saw lots of animals, including a leopard, which is great. He could really tell where the animals would be and was great at spotting them, so he is definitely a good guide. The room is basic but was okay and had AC. The place felt a little deserted. It has good potential, like the roof terrace, but it's not a cozy place. We were the only people doing the safari the next day so it made it a bit expensive, but they can't do much about that of course.
We saw a lot of animals but we didn't get a lot of explanation. We had to ask everything. Also there were no binoculars. For us, it felt like a lack of enthousiasm. At one point, we were trying to spot bears and he fell asleep, which felt weird. We had to wake him up and ask if we could go further with the safari.
Maybe he had a bad day or something, we don't know as we didn't get an explanation.
- Kim (5/5): Enjoyable company of other guests. - Close to Wilpattu National Park,
Reasonable food.
Good safari. Little Frogs jumping around the dirty bathroom.
- Ăine (9/5): Superb - I loved the hospitality of the hosts - felt at home right away! Right next to the national park Dinner was quite basic but also reasonably priced so I understand.
- Bartoli (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (8/5): A lovely place to stay - It is very close to the entrance to the park.
Very welcoming and kind hosts, couldn't do more to make our stay just perfect. We went on a safari with Susil, we did see plenty of animals including a leopard. Susil is brilliant at spotting willd life when orhers just drive by. The room was small but very clean and comfortable with a mosquito net and air conditioning. Their little daughter Divina is just beautiful. When we arrived the place looked deserted but that didnt take anything away from it. Susil told me that they reopened recently and are planning to brighten the place up making it more comfortable and welcoming.
- James (10/5): Amazing location and even better host!! - Susil was a great host for us. He took time to talk with us and tell us about the surrounding area and some of the history of Sri Lanka. Made us beautifully cooked homemade meals with traditional ingredients. Very kind man that made our stay an extremely positive one. Hostel is in the most perfect location literally metres from the entrance of the national park. No wifi but youâre in the jungle so was nice to actually get away from it all!
- Cheryl (10/5): Exceptional - Just about 100 meters from the entrance to Wilpattu wildlife national park. The owner is and experienced tour guide and happily will tell you about the wildlife to be found, both in and out of the park. Just by the entrance to the park is a trail going around a beautiful lake where families come for a bath and swim. We were warned not to not to walk around outside after dark to avoid unpleasant encounters with wild animals. I would defintely go back there to stay if I am in the area.
- Laura (9/5): Superb - Great location when visiting Wilpattu NP for safari. Owners where super friendly! Food, both breakfast and dinner, where home cooked and diverse. Bed was comfy, musquito net and ac in the room. The guesthouse is close to the Wilpattu entrance and easy to reach by road. Don't be surprised to see an elephant walking past the guesthouse. There is a lake near the place where you can walk and watch some wildlife as well.
Owner has his own jeep and can arrange safaris for a fair price. Great value for money, so don't expect luxery ;)
- Cerys (10/5): Exceptional - This was some of the best few days we had during our 2 week stay in Sri Lanka. Our hosts were very sweet and couldnât do enough for us. Sussil offered us a safari tour soon after our arrival but wasnât pushy or forceful. Immediately I felt he was very genuine in the price he quoted us and was able to bring it down by asking if we would share the jeep with other guests. His knowledge and skills on safari were excellent and we were not disappointed with our day.
Even after a full 12 hour day safari Sussil made the guests Sri Lankan dinner and catered to everyoneâs needs. Absolute hero with very good English skills.
Room was good for the price and most importantly location just a few metres from the park entrance.
- Ladislav (10/5): Thank you for beautiful experience. - Beautiful nature.
The owners are super nice and careful. We had great dinner and breakfast.
- Lotus (4/5): Wouldnât recommend - The location was nice, very close to the entrance of the park. The woman is very nice and polite. The accommodation was not attractively furnished.
The owner was inconsistent with the prices about the safari, it was very unclear and tiring to discuss with him. We eventually had to book it somewhere else.
The food was really bad and relatively expensive.
You don't get water during your stay.
The room is fine but very outdated. For example, the air conditioning did not work properly and the bedding was very uncomfortable and did not smell fresh.
We would not recommend this stay.
- Karina (7/5): Very kind staff and a great location! - The staff were very kind and helpful. The bathroom had no soap or shower gel. The electricity went out and generator was quite loud. The electricity going out was nationwide.
- Nele (9/5): Great place in future! - Susil is a very nice and attentive host. I felt cared for + he seemed glad to share personal as well as Sri Lankan stories, which I appreciated a lot. He took me on safari and though we didn't have any luck with leopards, elephants or bears, I felt like he was a good spotter of them. He pointed out many birds and reptiles that I didn't seeand one time we chased a leopard just because he had found one single track on the ground (while driving). Also he shared information about the animals through open window which I guess not all guides do either because of language or because jeeps don't allow direct communication through glass between driver and guests. Dinner was delicious. I was the only guest since he just reopened, so house appeared kind of abandoned. That didn't diminish the service but I couldn't share the safari so it was more expensive+no one to share experiences with. I had genius breakfast included, but he still wrote breakfast on the bill (600 rupees). However I didn't point it out, because he offered me several coffees during the days plus dinner (because I wasn't sure that I wanted it). Having met him I am sure that if you remind him, he will not charge for breakfast if it's included on booking.
