- Phongsathon (10/5): - I had a wonderful stay at the hotel. The room and bed were extremely comfortable, and the onsen was one of the best I have ever experienced in Japan. The breakfast was outstanding, with a top-tier traditional Japanese style that I truly enjoyed. The staff were very friendly, helpful, and welcoming throughout our stay. I would highly recommend staying here, as this may be one of the most underrated hotels in Aomori. One small issue was that the kettle in the room did not heat the water enough to fully cook cup noodles. However, this was only a minor inconvenience and was still acceptable to me.
- Zul (9/5): - Super soft beds!
Breakfast was amazing, they will try their best to cater to your dietary needs.
Onsen was great!
It's in a very quiet area. You can get stink bugs in your room. Just tell the staff or put up with it.
Shared toilets can be a bit uncomfortable.
Sometimes the temperature of the onsen can get too hot.
Pretty remote area if you're not planning to drive there, with only a few buses a day going to and from the location. If you want to travel by bus here, be sure to plan your days!
- Maxine (10/5): Ranko was amazing host.Extremely helpful and hospitable. - Very clean homely and authentic. Food was lovely as well. Nothing

- Ernsthofer (10/5): - Very nice Family that is running this place. The onsen is spacious. The Food IS good. Also they have a bar with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The rooms are great with a toilet in your Room. Which Not all ryokans have. Honestly If you stay you cant Go wrong. If you are Reading this, i Hope the apple-cheese Sticks were delicious. :)
- Philipp (10/5): - Atmosphere, amazing host with generations of family tradition at this Inn, food.
- Ogden (10/5): Make a point to stay here if you’re coming to the area - such a gem - I can’t say enough wonderful things about this cozy and eclectic inn. Get the breakfast it’s soooo amazing! They use local, and traditional ingredients, including blueberries from a family member’s farm. There’s decent coffee too! And Ranko goes above and beyond the usual attentiveness for her visitors. It was clean, nice comfortable traditional rooms, and lovely onsen. My partner and I used the private onsen together; lovely. Well decorated with all kinds of Japanese art and trinkets. The floor beds were sooo comfy too.
- Jurina (10/5): Great location close to Kuroishi - The staff was very kind and helpful, and served a delicious breakfast and dinner in japanese style. The room was large also in japanese style.
The onsen was really relaxing and awesome. It is a bit more difficult to reach by bus, but this is the only a bit negative point. And for that you have a great location to stay.
- Guillaume (10/5): We were a group of 2, spend 4 wonderful days at Ranko’s place. She’s an amazing host! - Food, staff, cleanness, comfort everything. The room are super comfy, the private onsen is really great, and above all the staff is so kind and helpful. It’s a gem Nothing

- Family (9/5): Memorable. Will stay again & recommend to others. - The warmth of the host & the staff.
The meals were exceptional & very good.
- Lockett (10/5): - The staff were excellent and helped us with suggestions for sightseeing in the area.
- Seth (10/5): A ryokan stay that will remain in our hearts for life - Everything! Let me tell you about Tabinoyado Saikawa. It is a 4th generation onsen ryokan in the most lovely mountain location - conveniently located near Towada lake area as well as Aomori and Hirosaki.
The facilities: The interior decoration is lovely, the bar is one of the best decorated and designed that we have enjoyed in Japan. The rooms are large and the bed mats are thick and comfortable. They gave us apple juice everyday as well as ice water and tea. The onsen is large and luxurious. A hot water, true-onsen with water piped right from the mountain - full of mineral content.
Staff: Ranko-San is the 4th generation owner-operator who runs the business alongside her lovely parents and niece - who is a talented artist. Her father has a blueberry farm that he has tended for 20 years which provides fresh blueberries for breakfast as well as an incredible blueberry sour served at the bar.
Food: we enjoyed breakfast and dinner, which were both fantastic. The service is wonderful and the food was fresh and delicious.
Other services: Ranko-San is a talented hair stylist with experience in NY city, even cutting hair for a VOGUE shoot at one point. She runs a salon as well and provided a top notch haircut. She also arranged a shiatsu massage from a local vendor that was provided on-site. She seems to know all the locals very well and was able to make recommendations for each day of activities as well as several local vendors for anything we needed.
Final notes: 47 days in Japan, 27 hotels including multiple ryokans. This was our favorite by far, I’d gladly stay here an entire month and will definitely be back one day. Stay here for as many nights as you can spare, you will not regret it.
Thank you Ranko-San and family for the wonderful stay!!! Not a single negative comment

- Yevhen (9/5): Get off the beaten path (tokyo-kyoto-osaka-hakone) , you'll be surprised :) - Nature, tranquility, warmth of the staff, Japanese rural life, a place where time slows down.
The place itself is a 4th generation run ryokan (personally hoping that it will last for at least another four), located in the local onsen town, with just a walking distance from the Nakano park where the locals observe the autumn foliage.
What was surprising is that this place has turned out to be quite accessible even if you dont have a car, although it is recommended to have personal transport. The bus stop is right in front, and the schedule is quite reasonable. Once you get to Kuroishi, you can find plenty of connections to the other parts of the Aomori perfecture.
The hotel is very clean, the onsens are well maintained and heal you really well after a long day of exploring.
The food in the ryokan is delicious, and they have a free self-service station with tea, coffee and miso soup.
A certain highlight for us was the decor in the ryokan, cozy and intimate. leaving too soon.
- Pham Tu Linh (10/5): Ryokan d’exception.
- Nobuya (10/5): One of my best ryokan experiences. - The meals were beautiful and delicious. The decor was charming. The staff were welcoming. The local hike from the jinja is fun. The onsen is down to earth, clean and I enjoyed it so much I went three times per day. If you are looking for a remote place away from most foreign tourists this is it. One of the three family members found the futon mattress unnecessarily hard.
- Céline (10/5): Vraiment agréable - L’établissement est charmant. Magique. Le lieu ravissant
- Kinneret (9/5): Great place! - Beautiful Ryokan, very welcoming owner and stuff. Ranko who runs the place speaks English and is extremely nice. Food is great. The Onsen wasn’t clean enough
- An (9/5): Escape from cityscape!! - Location, Food, Staffs. Nothing but some noise from construction works in the daytime and some summer bugs in the night.
- Patryk (10/5): Amazing host and a beautiful authentic place - Amazing host and a beautiful authentic place
- Mike (10/5): Genuine hospitality and beautiful food - This is the loveliest ryokan with incredibly hospitable and genuine owners. The food was beautiful. We felt very welcome and very lucky to stay there.
- Nroubal (10/5): Very special ryokan, beautiful experience - The hospitality, the warmth of the owners, and the traditional ryokan experience were wonderful. Futons were very comfortable, and the size of the room was perfect for two. The ryokan is family owned and operated 4th generation, and the products that are featured there (apple juice, charcoal soap, local rice, etc) were so thoughtful. The kaeseki dinner was incredible, so good we ordered it twice. This was a wonderful area to base out of for some winter experiences in Hakkoda, Aomori, and other local ski areas. The onsen water was very healing. Loved everything. Very special place.
- Isabelle (10/5): Gorgeous traditional accomodation off the beaten track - Beautiful location and interior decorations. The onsen is delightful and the traditional breakfasts were amazing.
Ranko is a delightful host Nothing
- Cherie (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing ryokan experience in a winter wonderland!
Ranko-san was an amazing host who cared for our every needs. She even lent as snow boots for our winter hikes when she saw that our shoes was unsuitable for the snow. She was friendly and spoke English well.
The rooms was spacious, clean, and comfortable.
The onsen was big and well maintained.
The breakfast and dinner was better than any restaurant we could find in hirosaki! Will definitely be back again :) NA
- Gina (10/5): Wonderful ryokan, exceptional host! - This is a traditional Japanese ryokan with public baths (gender separated). Dinner and breakfast are amazing and plentiful, with locally sourced organic produce (even coffee!).
Our room (Japanese room with private toilet) was to the left of the entrance. It was very spacious. The heater worked very well as autumn night was a bit damp and cold. The beds are futons on wood bed frames on tatami, and they are super comfortable.
As I have a whole-leg tattoo which is usually not permitted in the public baths, I notified Ranko in advance, and she reserved the private bath for us. The private bath was a very beautiful blue ceramic bath filled with warm (I don’t think it’s very hot) healing hot spring water from the area.
Ranko’s warm personality really made the stay memorable. Be sure to ask her for recommendations of the areas. She is a well of knowledge of the area!
- Sandra (9/5): Superb - Food was excellent, and the staff were very kind and helpful
- Julie (10/5): A very homely stay. Smallish in size but huge in character! Rinko put a lot of effort in making us feel welcome and warm - Rinko was fabulous. Took care of all our every needs. The property is very quaint. Although there are other guests, they are mainly Japanese and felt totally welcomed! Nothing at all!!!
- Tze (9/5): Superb -
- Joey (8/5): Very relaxing and comfortable stay with good food. - Warm hospitality. Extremely helpful and friendly lady boss and staffs. No personal toilet in the room.
- Paisan (9/5): Superb -
- Yonatan (10/5): We had an amazing time, food was delicious and great facilities and room. Thank you Ranko! - Everything
- Anna (10/5): Awesome vegan friendly ryokan - Awesome Ryokan. Everyone is super lovely here. Our room was nice, the futons comfy and they have baths that are open around the clock.
They even provide vegan options for food and the food was so good. I really hope to be able to come back in the future. Strongly recommend coming here, especially if you want vegetarian of vegan food. That is quite uncommon to find in a ryokan.
In general the atmosphere of this place is awesome. The dining room was especially lovely decorated.
- Rachel (10/5): Stay here for the food and hospitality! - The dinner here is exceptional and they are happy to work with dietary restrictions. The breakfast was also amazing. The sheets were nice quality and the room was small but well outfitted. But what really made this ryokan special was the hostess Ranko, who was friendly and thoughtful. We'd definitely stay here again if we were in this part of Japan. We knew going in, but this is an area where you really do need a car (which we had.)
- Collyer (10/5): Thanks a million Ranko - Ranko the owner was lovely, charming and fantastic, dinner and breakfast delicious., Japanese style, organic produce including the coffee. Lovely river walk and shrine a stroll away, magnificent trees. Everything perfect
- Narelle (9/5): Superb - We loved Ranko, the owner, and her attention to detail and her heartfelt hospitality. She speaks English well from her own travels abroad. The Japanese breakfast was home cooked by her mother with local ingredients and was so delicious. If you have not booked the evening meal there is a convenience store about a 15min walk away. The ryokan was traditional Japanese style and we slept on tatami matting. The private bath is not in the room but you are provided with an hour of exclusive use - be aware that the water temperature is very hot!! I made a lantern at Irodori in Kuroishi and didn't realise where this accommodation was in relation to the town. The people in the visitor's office were very helpful in providing maps and a bus timetable, but with carry on luggage it was very cosy on the mini bus that is the local bus. Google maps was necessary. This accommodation is best suited to those that have rented a car and can use Ranko's place as a base to explore the many onsens, mountains and cultural things in the surrounding area
- I (7/5): Lovely & Welcoming Stay. - We had a pleasant stay and breakfast was delicious and healthy. A family run ryokan that makes you feel welcoming. Thanks to Ranko for her great restaurant recommendation. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and the hospitality. Toilet is outside the room.
- Walter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mitch (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarin (10/5): Best breakfast and friendly host ever! - The breakfast is best! We have been in so many full board resorts in Japan. Here is the best home cooked breakfast. Better than namy luxurious resort in the region. Love the wooden floor of the hotel, it creative & unique. The host was best, friendly and helpful. I'm looking forward to her new resort near by. There is no private bathroom. If you ain't familiar with public onsen, you may be a bit nervous taking bath with others. Also no elevator.
- Termpongnurak (9/5): I will come back again - Even this is small hotel with limit no. of room, but it's good. Staffs was nice and helpful. Onsen is good. nothing
- Jyhwei (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice place. The hot spring is excellent No
- Sroccati (10/5): Exceptional - The host was really kind and helpful, the room was spacious and we were welcomed with apple juice. The breakfast was large and delicious, with organic ingredients like the yogurt made by them. It is far from the nearest station, so you'll need to consider an extra expense for a taxi if you don't have a car, but it was perfect for our travel purpose as we were going to visit the area around.
- Tony (10/5): Very pleasant stay. Definitely will come back! - It’s a family operated ryokan with private onsen. The owner is very friendly and attentive. Meals were prepared with tasty local produce with pleasant jazz on the background.
The stories that the owner (Ms. Ranko) shared about the house and her family adds to the wonderful experience that we had in Nakano Momijiyama.
- Paolo (8/5): Very good - fantastic, thoughtful host !
free parking.
nice onsen, also private. excessive duvet for the season.
- Benjamin (9/5): Superb -
- Nuttamon (10/5): Excellence stay. Very helpful staff :) - Decoration, room is very spacious, clean -
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karen (10/5): Excellent! - We loved the authentic breakfast, and were very grateful for the explanation of all the items we were eating. Everyone was extremely accommodating when we had a request or needed anything. I am not sure there is anything that could be better. It would have been nice if we could have sat at a table where we could face each other instead of a wall.
- Dah (10/5): Well mamaged family ryokan - Small Family ryokan. Very courteous and kind proprietress. Nothing
- David (10/5): Home run hotel / ryokan / onsen / meal experience - Enjoyed everything ! Ranko was fabulous host and her mother is a fabulous cook for dinner and breakfast. The food was local and organic and much of it was grown by the family. The room and futons were clean and comfortable . The ryokan is decorated with local products and crafts with nice warm , home like feeling. we enjoyed a variety of local sakes and of course apple juice. The onsen was great with local spring water from nearby Mt Hakkoda. Conveniently located near Mt Hakkoda, apple orchards , sake breweries, art and craft centers , and hirosake castle / museum / botanical gardens. Was the best hotel/ryokan experience in japan. The stay was so nice we didn’t want to leave
- Yun (10/5): VERY - VERY GOOD
VERY WELL
VERY NICE
- Debbiehuayuhuang (7/5): Good - the quality of food is good. the cooking skill can be improved
- Tiffany (10/5): Truly Exceptional - Everything! I am a tattoo bearer and I understand that we may not be able to use the onsen. Not only was the owner super understanding, they also had a private bath!! I LOVE THAT! We also last minute book our dinner and breakfast and she was very accommodating. The meals were both exceptional and I would 100% recommend this Ryokan if you want to enjoy an authentic ryokan experience!! Also we booked the room with private bathroom :) NONE
- Desiree (10/5): I thoroughly enjoyed it and and would certainly return if I have the chance. - the authenticity of the Japanese setting it was a bit difficult to reach, not impossible and well worth it.
- Adrian (9/5): Quiet place to relax. - Room was large, didn't lack anything. The Ryokan have two private onsen (indoor) you can use anytime. Staff was super friendly!! Meal was ok (not huge, but ok!), traditional Japanese style. Place was all trraditional style and located in a small town near a dam, with beatifull scenery. Very quiet place you can only access by bus. There is a combini nearby.
- Hayley (10/5): Great for first timers, experienced onsen goers, and vegans - The ryokan itself is lovely and the staff was the most welcoming and hospitable to me and my family. My family had never been to a ryokan or experienced an onsen and it was a great first experience for them. As a vegetarian, I have found this ryokan to be the absolute best for the vegan food option out of the many ryokans and hotels I've stayed at in Japan. Cannot recommend enough!
- Cheng (9/5): Superb -
- Christine (10/5): pleasant stay in Kuroishi - what a pleasant place for my trip to Momiji mountain. Ranko has the finest touch for every thing. good variety breakfast and very delicious dinner. it is highlight of our trip. highly recommend and will definitely come back again.
- Rebecca (6/5): Pleasant - Friendly welcome Overpriced food that was mainly pickled and not particularly good. There was lots of it…..in fact too much.
