Guest Reviews
- Anna (8/5): - Hostitelka byla velmi milá a ochotná. Všude bylo čisto. Snídaně byla skvělá.
- Antonios (10/5): Great place inside the nature, ran by a lovely family - Our stay in Woodholic was an absolute pleasure for us! The tree house is made with such a good taste and is surrounded by beautiful nature. It is a family run property and the owners are very friendly and welcoming. Madara took great care of us and assisted us with everything we needed. Breakfast is very good and we also had dinner twice which was also great. The fact that they serve it in the balcony of your room is also a great luxury. We loved everything about this place and would definitely come back, when in Sri Lanka. Thank you for everything!
- Ayşın (10/5): Great, quiet and pleasant stay - İt was very quite, comfortable and a great family. Rooms were very big and the balkony was nice No refiregator in the rooms, but the family allowed us to put our idrinks and water in theyre own refiragator
- Emmanuel (9/5): On recommande !
- Pradeeban (9/5): - We stayed at Woodholic on 3rd and 4th March while planning a trip to Sigiriya. The service was excellent, and we absolutely loved the place. It’s very close to Sigiriya Rock, which was extremely convenient. Madara was attentive, supportive, and kind, and their family was equally warm and welcoming. My partner and I truly enjoyed our stay. Thank you for the beautiful memories! Not a complaint just keep these in your mind: Water pressure is low, and This hotel is located on a small path along the same route to Sigiriya Rock. However, there are no street lights after 6 PM, so be cautious. Also, you’ll need to go to Sigiriya town for shops and other amenities
- Luke (6/5): Overpriced for what it is, and lacking bikes/tuktuk options to get to the town - The bed itself was really big and very comfortable. The breakfasts were delicious and huge, with local food: hoppers, eggs, dahl and fresh fruit, as well as bread/toasts jams etc. The hosts would message us on whatsapp for what time we would like breakfast served and bring it to the terrace, so it was super convenient around our plans. The AC and fan in the room was very good. This was a higher cost stay, and from the photos and most reviews, I was expecting a more elevated experience. On arrival, the place was a building site with piles of bricks and rubble tipped around the site. The room itself didn't allow much space to move around the bed, and limited space to lay our bags. The shower never got hot. This is a more remote location, so you would expect some calm and relaxation, but every single day of our stay, there was a workshop on the site with someone was continuously using heavy machinery, which began around 8am each morning as we were eating our breakfast. For this price point I would have expected a towel change at least, but the room was never serviced. It was approx. 50 min walk to Sigiriya town, all the restaurants/bars/shops, which was pleasant in the daylight, but there are warnings everywhere of wild elephants, and not to walk at dawn/dusk. It is worth considering sunrise/sunset times as for us in January, this was around 6.30am and 6pm - so really we had to leave very early to get out for our evening meals as there was no chance of a passing tuktuk as we were so remote. We never saw the hosts other than at breakfast to ask for a tuktuk. This could be prearranged over whatsapp but didn't allow for any spontaneity. We did see three wild elephants around the stay, which may sound appealing to see such amazing animals out roaming, but they truly are wild and all of the locals really advised being in a car/tuktuk as they are no joke and can unintentionally cause harm. In the town/main road there are lots of tuktuks readily available, but they will not be familiar with this location and take a fair bit of explanation. We had to rely on these every evening and typically paid 400-600 SLR. If there had been peddle bikes available, this would have gave us way more freedom and quicker access to the town, but I still would not have risked it in the dark.
- DidivC (9/5): -
- Linsey (9/5): - The host is really friendly, helpful and service oriented. When needed, she arranged a tuk tuk or taxi for me.
- Isabel (8/5): - Very friendly owners and very good food Some mould on the walls
- Gabriel (10/5): - Very friendly family, managing spacious, clean, comfortable rooms with private bathroom and a lovely terrace where good breakfast is served.
The bed is comfortable, there is AC and mosquito net above the bed which is very practical. The house is surrounded by trees, just 50meters from the road, which creates the feeling like a forest house.
The owner is a savvy wood craftsman so you might want to see his work and buy some authentic souvenirs which have much higher quality than most shops.
- Hugh (8/5): -

Bouwgeluiden, waarschijnlijk tijdelijk
- Máire (10/5): Beyond amazing! - This has been my favourite accommodation so far in Sri Lanka! It’s in the perfect location, within walking distance to the Lion’s rock. The host and her family are so sweet and kind. They will help you with anything that you need. The breakfast and dinners are amazing! We even got a welcome juice when we arrived. The place is super clean, the wifi is great, 1000/10.
- Elisabeth (7/5): Nice hosts, but bad room/air quality - The hosts were really kind and tried everything to make our stay comfortable (they even once took us with them in the car at night so we wouldn‘t need a tuk tuk). Very forthcoming & a kind heart!
Overall the room was clean & breakfast good. I hate having to give such a bad review (would be worse if not for the kind hosts), but our room (the one on the very right) had mold and maybe even bed bugs (could have also been mosquito bites from during the day). We just stayed 2 nights and did our best to get fresh air in before going into the room. However, it made us feel really uncomfortable so I feel obliged to share it here. Maybe the other rooms are better, but please avoid the one on the very right of the building.
- Oleksandra (10/5): - Very calm and quiet area. Short ride by tuk-tuk to cafes and main activities.
Hosts were very attentive and friendly.
- Teodoro (2/5): Very poor value for money. This wasn’t a good stay. 140 dollars for 2 nights spent with 0 comfort. The host was nice and - Host was kind. It was basically a poorly built separate hut on the first floor. The view? A construction site basically that started works at 7am (during our breakfast). Water pressure is very weak and room very small.
- Lars (10/5): - Good breakfast. Huge, clean, new room. Friendly host, helped us to find restaurants + drivers. Close to the historic Sigiriya area, easily reachable by foot.

- Gupta (10/5): Picturesque, peaceful, delightful, convenient, and relaxing - Tasty, fresh, and generous portions! Short tuk tuk into town, not walkable in dark. But reasonable price and very quick journey (2 mins)
- Felipe (10/5): - Perfect treatment, really good service. The family is really nice.
- Marion (9/5): -

- Chiara (10/5): Bellissima esperienza!
- Aurora (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tomas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kamonwan (8/5): Very good - The room was nice and clean. Everything meets our expectations for homestay. The hosts are very nice. We recommend this place if you’re looking for a nice place and to meet nice local people.
- Sophie (10/5): Lovely family homestay - We had a lovely stay at Woodholic Homestay. The hosts are very kind and helped us with everything we needed. We had a great breakfasts and offered lots of specialities from the recent new years celebrations, which was a real treat!
- Sandeep (10/5): Exceptional - A very cozy place with clean rooms and bathrooms. Though minimalistic, the facilities were good for a leisure stay. The dinner and breakfast we had were very tasty and filling. The owner family who manage the facility are very friendly and always ready to provide more. Our package was inclusive of only breakfast. However, they provided dinner but were not willing to take money for the same and we had to force them to accept some amount. Madara who manages the whole facility speaks English and is an excellent host. Due to trees all around, expect some mosquitoes and be prepared. Clean towels were provided but you need to carry your soap and shampoo which we do whenever we travel. Overall a great experience and would surely recommend to family and friends.
- Ewa (7/5): Good -
- Zuzanka (10/5): Exceptional - We spent 2 nights in this appartment and it was really amazing. The family is very kind and helpful when it comes to organising some trip-we went to Safari and it was great. The breakfast was tasty!
You feel like in the jungle 😊
I would 100% recommend.
- Katarina (10/5): We had the most wonderful stay at this beautiful homestay! - We had the most wonderful stay at this beautiful homestay! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by the warm and humble family. The father, a talented carpenter, has crafted all the furniture by hand, and the house feels like a true labor of love. The mother and two daughters were incredibly friendly and made us the most amazing meals every day.
This place is perfect for anyone looking to stay a bit away from the more touristy areas around Sigiriya, surrounded by nature and tranquility. Staying here also means supporting a truly awesome family and their dreams. We couldn’t recommend it more!
We miss you already!
Katarina and Mateja -
- Ellie (10/5): Exceptional - The room was lovely and clean and spacious, with air con and a nice bathroom. The hosts were very friendly and happy to organise tuktuks and bikes for us, even getting us a tuktuk at 5am for going up Pidurangala Rock at sunrise. They cooked us a delicious breakfast and were able to provide dinner one night as well for a small extra fee. 10/10 would highly recommend this lovely family homestay. A little bit out of the centre of town, but easily walkable or the hosts are happy to organise tuktuks.
- Jeevanand (10/5): Exceptional - Modern and calm place Insects but that is to be expected and normal at this location.
- George (10/5): Wonderful rural retreat. - This mini apartment is brilliant, the little terrace is private and well furnished. The hosts are wonderful and breakfast is delicious and filling.
There is also a kettle, tea and coffee and some drinking water is provided. Excellent value for money! I saw a hornbill whilst I was eating breakfast! They actually work with wood here so you will hear a saw in the morning. Maybe take ear plugs.
- Zeyna (10/5): Exceptional - A truly unforgettable homestay experience! Madara and her family are incredibly warm and welcoming. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with a refreshing drink and felt right at home. The room was cozy and comfortable, and there was always hot water. The Wi-Fi worked flawlessly throughout our stay. Breakfast was always a treat: abundant, varied, and satisfying, with plenty of delicious options to choose from. Madara’s mother is an amazing cook, and we were lucky to enjoy some of her home-cooked meals. What really stood out was how much effort the family put into making sure we had the best experience. They helped us rent bikes, recommended great local spots to eat, and even gave us a lift to the bus stop when it was time to leave. Highly recommend staying here if you’re looking for a warm, authentic, and hassle-free experience.
- Agnieszka (9/5): Really great experience with very hospitable hosts! - The friendliness of the hosts! It’s a very sweet family, they fully took care of us during our stay, including helping us arrange a mechanic for our tuk tuk and recommending local restaurants that turned out to be an amazing experience! Definitely recommend staying there! It could have been a bit more clean but it didn’t make a negative difference for us.
- Xenia (10/5): lovely - clean, spacious, very good value for this price, kind, helpful and welcoming hosts, great food (welcome drinks, breakfast, complementary tea, coffee, water), beautiful wood furnishing, I could go on nothing really
- Shahar (10/5): Exceptional - The hosts took care of everything we needed, and more! Always with a smile and a lot of desire to help and give us the best and most pleasant experience. They took care of everything we wanted, even in the early morning hours. The place is cozy and beautiful
- Anna (9/5): Superb - Review for Hotel Woodholic in Sigiriya: 9/10
Hotel Woodholic is a true gem in Sigiriya! The standout feature is the exceptional hospitality of the owners – they go above and beyond to make your stay unforgettable. The cleanliness throughout the hotel is impeccable, which makes the experience even more pleasant. The breakfast was an absolute highlight: fresh, plentiful, and absolutely delicious – the perfect way to start the day.
The value for money is outstanding, making Woodholic a fantastic choice for travelers seeking comfort and quality at an affordable price.
The only minor drawback was a slightly musty smell in our room. However, this had little impact on the overall experience, as everything else was simply perfect.
We highly recommend Hotel Woodholic and would love to return!
- Beata (10/5): Nice atmosphere, great food, great stay - Lovely, helpful family, great food (we had both breakfast and dinner here, easy communication. It is a simple accommodation but well managed. Very warm water in the shower - which is not a given in Sri Lanka :) Would be great to have and extra table in the room and a the rubber swipe for the bathroom floor.
- Johan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Veronica (8/5): Very comfortable stay in Sygiria - I had a nice and chilled stay at Woodhoolic. As soon as I arrived there was a technical issue in my room and as it needed time to be fixed, I was given the other room available (the family room) which was spacious and comfortable and glad that it had A/C too!
The area is very quiet and the family is welcoming and friendly. Breakfast and food in general were delicious and of generous portions!
- Sellapperuma (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrea (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michał (10/5): Exceptional - Very helpfull staff. Always ready to help you organized tuktuk. Guest house seems to by just open. Rooms are clean with AC.
- Ilangowan (10/5): Great hospitality - Hosts are Very friendly and kind. Helped us in many ways.
The room and bathroom were super clean and neat and tidy. And they smell very good.
The furniture of the property are very well designed and they look very nice.
There are enough of towels and they are very clean.
The breakfast was delicious and we ordered dinner and it also very tasty. The presentation and serving method of food is also very nice like a star hotel
