- Michelle (6/5): It was a nice stay. Just glad we had a lot of site seeing to do and didn’t have to spend to long in the room - It was very clean and had character It was very small . And the pictures made it look bigger. Felt like we was in a prison cell .specially the bathroom in same room
- Jacqueline (2/5): Shrieks and gasps when we tried the shower - unacceptable risk, a previous guest was burned. - This review is of our Cotswold Bankview Twin Room stay, 2026-05-03 to 2026-05-07 (4 nights, Sunday to Thursday). When we – two friends - booked our twin room December 31, 2025- early in our plans to walk in the Cotswolds, its rate was about 1/2 that of other available booking.com Moreton-in-Marsh twin room listings.
We read agree with many positive reviewers that Cotswold Bankview’s location is perfect. Our room was clean, advance and in-room communication was clear and helpful, our room was within 2 locked doors, we felt safe there. Bedding suited the room’s temperature, we had no need of heater, fan, etc. There were no bad smells or signs of mold. We read through Cotswold Bankview reviews on booking.com (n=111) and TripAdvisor (n=9) and saw many of the issues that prompted negative reviews remain. The room was obviously not “newly renovated”. Photos were misleading with respect to layout. UK twin bed standard length is 6’3”; these beds are short; while one of us at 5’4” fit, the other at 5’6” was too tall to sleep comfortably. There is nowhere to put anything, no hooks in the bathroom or towel bars, no convenient space for our suitcases. No bathroom door, a shower immediately inside the entrance with a clear glass water barrier should be frosted. Further, the rolling “barn door” on the bedroom separating it from the shower and entrance was hanging sideways when we arrived. We considered these things to be minor issues, somewhat acceptable for the price and location; if knowing of them before we booked we might still choose to stay there again. This review focuses on significant issues:
#1 The Shower
The shower in the twin room at Cotswold Bankview was either scalding hot – too hot to safely use – or freezing cold; what was particularly frustrating was the temperature changed within seconds from one extreme to the other - there was no "in between" comfortable temperature. We reported this in vain. We had in-room attention to the shower our 4th night without resolution. As we walked ~15k per day out from Moreton-on-Marsh, we needed showers. We would never have rented a room without a working shower.
#2 Misleading Communication
Reviews mentioned the shower problem back to 2024. See attached screenshots, including Kate (May 9th 2026) who “Left a day early because of the shower” stayed in the room after us, she wrote “Shower barely worked and was either freezing or scorching”. Management response: “We're sorry to hear you had difficulty with the shower — we’ve actually had our team check it recently, and it’s functioning as expected.

- Diego (8/5): Supera las expectativas. Es cálido. Bueno, bonito y barato. - La calidez y tranquilidad. Muy limpio y cómodo. El baño se inunda al bañarse. Falta un zócalo y/o puerta en la ducha.
- Deanna (8/5): Charming place to stay - Location, comfort Nothing
- terry (10/5): A relaxing and comfortable stay with great service and a perfect location. - We had a lovely stay with everything we needed just meters away. The service was great all round, with nice extra touches that made a difference. We especially enjoyed being able to sit outside at the front of the property and relax. Nothing significant to note, everything met our expectations.
- Mark (8/5): Lovely change from hotels and great value - Great location lovely boutique style rooms and good comms from the host
- Tao (9/5): Excellent location, quiet and comfortable room - I had a very pleasant stay — the hotel is right on the High Street and close to the station, with plenty of convenient amenities nearby, making it an excellent base for exploring the surrounding towns. The room was in a ground-floor cottage-style setting with a small courtyard, which made it especially quiet and relaxing. No complaints at all.
- Richard (10/5): Really nice little self-contained cabin, very cosy! - It was at 24, High street. I found number 21 then number 25A but Bankview wasn't between them bizarrely! It was certainly opposite Lloyds Bank but a warning about the illogical numbering system of the High Street would have helped!
- Anna (10/5): -
- Granger (3/5): Not so friendly - The location was excellent, right in the heart of the village and parking was easy. We arrived at 3pm (check in time) and the room was freezing cold. Absolutely freezing. We struggled to work out how to get the heater going (there were no instructions) and our attempts to contact the 'reservation manager' on the number given went unanswered. The front door lock failed several times and once again we were unable to contact the manager and were eventually let in by a staff member. The room was musty and controlling the temperature remained a challenge. We mistakenly thought there would be a fridge available (needed for medicatio) and once again got no help. The room was small and unnecessarily contained a free standing fan and what we assumed was a free standing cooler and a very dusty fake plant. Please make sure in the future that the room is ready by turning on the heater and responding to all requests for help.

- Kevin (10/5): Fantastic ! - Gift basket amazing touch ! Nothing was all great
- Elizabeth (8/5): -
- Katherine (6/5): Location is perfect but definitely needs work doing - Location was perfect The property was extremely cold. Not able to shower first evening because the room was so cold
It needs an additional heat source in the bathroom and also decent window coverings.
- Shaun (8/5): Good place to stop over for a couple of nights - Had a good stay at Bankview in Moreton. The facilities were excellent and everything was kept very clean. Communication throughout was perfect, clear, friendly, and helpful, and the check-in instructions were really easy to follow.
Also appreciated the thoughtful touches such as plenty of tea, coffee, sweets, and biscuits. The towels smelled lovely and fresh, which made the place feel even more welcoming.
Good accomodation for a few nights and practically in the town centre with lots of parking and plenty of shops. The only downside was a slight smell of damp in Room 2, which unfortunately kept me awake on a few nights. Aside from that issue, everything else was spot on and I enjoyed my stay overall.
- Clare (10/5): - Such a beautiful location and even more beautiful place to stay. It was super comfortable and cosy and the shower was amazing. Super easy check in/out 😊
- Ragesh (9/5): -
- Jaskiran (10/5): Great trip, perfect accommodation, good value for money and really helpful staff. - Clean, and really helpful staff. Perfect location to the station.
- Jayne (6/5): Basic facilities but with a small amount of care could be much better - Location was good It was very tired looking
- Ivona (10/5): -
- Elise (7/5): -
- Barbara (9/5): Very comfortable and the location was great. - It’s location, comfort and quirks. The water pressure in the shower was challenging.
- Julie (8/5): Great location. Small but nicely done - Great location. Lovely bathroom. Nice touches & really good products Very small. Bit cold to start with. Stand up heater- couldn’t get to work. Quite noisy - knocking noise - pipes? Did stop eventually.
- Genevieve (10/5): Super séjour! - J’ai tout aimé! J’ai si bien dormi et la chambre était super confortable! Et très jolie! Propre!
- Nyrie (7/5): Great location, nicely decorated, but has room for improvement. - Great location. Small room but comfortable. The snacks were a nice surprise. There were a couple of things that if addressed could make the stay at this property a lot more comfortable. Firstly it was not possible to shower without the bathroom getting water everywhere. The shower stall needs a door. Some efficient shelving would go a long way to improve the functionality of the small room as there was no where to put anything. There are sensor lights outside the room and the curtains are too thin to keep the light out. We improvised by hanging a spare blanket over the window. And lastly the mattress is not good quality. No support at all.
- Lori (2/5): - I would not recommend this property which I will explain below.
When you arrive at the property you go through a corridor to a courtyard that has 4 rooms. The courtyard was nice but unfortunately it is all gravel which makes pulling suitcases difficult. The twin room is called the Hobbit Hole and it truly is. This is a room about the size of a walk in closet with a bed squeezed in horizontally and one vertically, neither bed has room for a night stand or lamp. There is a small desk between the side of one bed and the end of the other. There is hardly any room to open your suitcase on the floor and nowhere to unpack items, we used the windowsill. When you enter the room it opens directly into the shower part of the bathroom with a barn door separating it from the bed area. The barn door is not installed well or the walls are uneven as it was very difficult to roll it open and closed. There are no towel racks to hang towels in the bathroom, no heat in bathroom so cold slick floors, in the bed area there is a piece of wood glued to the wall with 5 or 6 hangars to hang clothes, there is no closet. We paid £388 for 3 nights and it honestly was not worth more than £25 per night. I honestly think the owner should be ashamed to charge this for a room that I would doubt meets fire and safety guidelines. The only positive is the location which is only a block from the train station. I have pictures if required.
- Ron (2/5): - The property photo advertising Bankview is a total con and does not relate to the accomodation in any way, the photo is FALSE. The shower waste in both rooms stank, the hot water in room 2 sink was non existant. Both rooms, 4 in total are located in converted outbuildings in the garden of a dilapidated high st cottage through which you have to pass to reach the rooms. Received emails from person responsible for digital keylock access with wrong number compared to previously received.
DO NOT STAY AT THESE PREMISES, POORLY REPRESENTATIVE OF THE COTSWOLDS
- Sarah (5/5): Was nice enough, just struggled with the lack of cleanliness of the bed sheets - Good location Hairs in the bed. Lots of them
- Mary Ann (9/5): The Hobbit Hole is a great room in which to hole up when not out exploring the Cotswolds. - The unit is located close to the train station and to the center of town. It is easy to find IF you have looked at a map ahead of time or put directions where you can see them even if you are not online or on cellular. The bank that is across High Street from the Bankview property is Lloyds Bank. However, most people you ask will not know the bank. A lot of people are tourists staying in or visiting Moreton-in-Marsh. The unit is very cute. We chuckled over its name, Hobbit Hole. The WiFi worked pretty well. The beds were comfortable enough. It is hard to lock the door until you realize that you need to NOT pull it tightly shut before trying to lock it. It is very hard to roll suitcases through the gravel in the courtyard around which the units are located. There are no instructions concerning the dehumidifier or the heating/cooling unit.
- Sanders (10/5): -
- Robin (10/5): - Oooo
- Harriet (10/5): - It was very cute welcome pack was lovely Shower wasn't very powerful
- Natalie (8/5): - The location was perfect and the comms from the hosts were great! There wasnt anything to not like!
- Lindsay (8/5): -
- Angela (8/5): Comfortable and cozy. Loved the exposed stone wall. Thanks for snacks and deinks - Address was hard to find. Didn’t match what was listed. Shower doesn’t have door. Bathroom became very wet after shower. Sheets had black hairs in/on them
- Rosa (8/5): - Ubicación perfecta Una de las dos camas, era más pequeña teniendo que dormir un poco encogida.
- Emma (10/5): excellent location, clean modern facilities, would stay again! - great, clean, modern shower could have done with a door so the bathroom didn't get wet
- Francesca (8/5): -
- Maria (8/5): - Ubicacion , el personal, decoracion La cama, el colchón excesivamente blando, excesiva luz a través del cristal del baño
- Maria (9/5): - Easy and flexible check in. The twin room can be a bit too small regarding the price.
- casado (9/5): Acogedora - Tuve que pedir ayuda porque no entendía el sistema pero me ayudaron sin problema.
- Guillaume (10/5): Beautiful stay, perfectly located - A wonderful experience overall. The room is beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and very well equipped. The bed was really comfortable and the towels smelled amazing, as if freshly softened. The location is excellent and the private outdoor space makes it even more special. The curtains are attractive but not blackout, so they let in too much light in the morning.
- morgane (6/5): Ok for just one night - Perfectly located
Beautifully decorated Constant background noise during the night
Terrible soft mattress in bed
Broken window blinders
No human interaction / no reception
Impossible heating management in the shower (I got burned)
- Juliane (10/5): Wonderful location to explore the Cotswolds! - Super cozy cottage with lots of lovely details. The only thing which is missing is a rubbish bin in the living room ;-) (there is only one in the bathroom).
- Susan (5/5): It was ok. The accommodations were very cramped and it was filled with spiders. - The location was great Very small, even for two people and lots of spiders
- Kay (6/5): Cute but the smell not so good - This is a really cute place but several things need to be upgraded. One the Bed, it has no support and two the sewer smell coming from the bathroom. We would walk in from being out all day and it was muggy sewer smell as soon as you stepped into the room. I think there is something wrong with the way the trap was put in for the plumbing.
- Diana (5/5): Passable - Welcome pack Very small, no where to hang a towel strange bathroom configuration beds comfortable but old, much too small for price.
- Andrew (7/5): NIce off the beaten track location despite being in the centre of the village. Quiet and private - quiet, secluded location yet still in the village centre. Modern design and it was nice to have a outside table and chairs room was a little cramped and could do with an air con unit or even a air cooler rather than just a fan (it was 30 degrees plus outside).
- Thomas (8/5): Was cute and cosy - It was very cosy and my son really enjoyed it Blinds didn’t really keep the light out given the windows are quite large but other than that nothing else
- Mrs Judith M (8/5): - Stable conversion which works well. Appreciated the early check in, easy to check in instructions. Slight stale smell, maybe related to previous dampness; this was on arrival and persisted- may warrant investigation. Otherwise appreciated and good value for money.
- David (8/5): Very good -
- Margaret (10/5): Exceptional - Location excellent
- Rebecca (8/5): I would stay again. Staff and communication was exceptional. - Nicely decorated.
Well equipped with the space it had to offer.
Tranquil and quaint . Bed frame was a little too bulky so kept banging into the corners.
Fusty smell after showering which kept in the room.
Small travel kettle not ideal when pouring as lead attached.
- Crissy (8/5): Very good -
- Anita (4/5): - I'm not sure about the other rooms, but the twin bed room is too small for two people. When you walk in you are facing the shower. The bathroom a step up to the right has no door. The shower did not drain properly and water pooled near the carpet and electrical cords that were placed under an area rug. I doubt that it is up to safety codes. There is nowhere to put your belongings. We literally slept with our bags at the foot of our beds. One bed was very small. Mine was comfortable and I felt the bedding was of good quality. I liked the old world charm, but I don't feel the space was big enough for two. I question the safety of the shower flooding near wires. When you first walk in the building is dark and not that nice. The courtyard where the rooms were was nice, but that initial impression was not good. Expensive for what you get.
- Eva (8/5): Cozy relaxing quiet cute room. - Very convenient location. Quiet and cozy. Good lighting. Comfortable sheets. Nice bathroom sink, and hot shower water. Did not know how to prevent shower water from coming onto the bathroom floor because there is no shower door.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The drain in the bath room was clogged, so the water wouldn’t go down. There was no door for the bath room and toiler and the bed was only 70mm wide. But the hotel is very close to train station and the staffs are kind.
- Brett (10/5): Exceptional - Loved the place, very cute for a quick couples trip from London. Easy check in and had everything we needed right in the center of town
- Bridgman (8/5): Very good -
- Kate (2/5): Left a day early because of the shower. Place didn’t feel very clean - Location and beds Shower barely worked and was either freezing cold or scorching
- Charlie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Emma (10/5): A convenient, comfortable and cosy place to stay in Moreton In Marsh, much more reasonably priced than the hotels we loo - The room was very well decorated and cute. It was very central to what we wanted to do and couldn’t be happier. The little amenities in the room were a lovely unexpected treat, including the little hamper of treats and Easter egg, a very welcome touch. Will 100% book again. All of the information provided about getting to the room was very easy to follow. N/A
- Timothée (6/5): Pleasant -
- Rachel (10/5): - This was perfect for us. It felt private yet connected to everything. Loved the welcome basket. Only a few minor changes like less scent in the entry and linens - although some may like that. We also had a little difficulty finding the place. Contact information provided got us sorted. We would stay here again for sure.
- Small (10/5): Excellent stay - It was fantastic from start to finish we will be returning without a doubt
- Mark (1/5): Disappointing Cold room, curtains/Blinds were broken -
- Simon (8/5): Perfect little apartment bang in the centre of town -
- Steve (5/5): Unpleasant experience, would not recommend twin room - Excellent location. Twin room. Ramshackle, damp, and very dodgy electrics. The second twin bed was so short, it didn’t even fit the mattress, does not fit an adult.
Stay was during autumn, arrived with room ice cold. An electric heater (turned off) and dehumidifier (full and turned off) were provided, but plugs are located by your pillow, and the cables are short.
you need to feed the cable across your bed, essentially lying down on the cable to heat the room at night. Unsafe. Do you want to charge your phone? And watch the tv as well. Sorry, only two plugs. So choose wisely. Shower was an electric one, because it was so cold all the steam condensed rapidly, leaving the room even damper.
- Katy (5/5): Not what i expect for the cost - The location was all we were happy with. It was freezing cold. We put the one heater provided on the wall on as soon as we walked in and it didn't warm up till about 10pm at night. at this point you then do not want it hot but we were to worried to turn off as we would freeze in the morning. not even a whole roll of toilet roll provided. When you have a shower it has no door so floods the bathroom making it very unsafe on the tile floor. Water dripping down the walls even with the fan on. visible damp on the walls and celling.
- Jonathan (2/5): A room with a wall missing - The property and specifically the room had charm and potential, the welcome stash was a nice touch. Firstly the room had the heating set to off even at -6 degrees, the temperature of the room when we arrived. The room features a wall of glass which although charming, all the seals and joints are way past there sell by date meaning despite setting the heating to max my partners drink had a ice film when she woke up to her drink on the morning. The shower is lovely however due to the poor setup of the glass it actually made the bed wet to use the shower which as you can imagine wasn't ideal. It's a shame as with a few alterations and potentially just the owner spending a night in there room they could resolve all the issues.
- Heidi (6/5): Charming but needs improvements - The location of the property is perfect for your stay in Morton-in-Marsh and gives a very cute first impression.
However, when it comes fo functionality it is lacking. The twin room is much smaller than the description indicates, with no privacy between the shower, toilet and beds.
The two beds at at one end of the long room with one having a lamp balancing over it on a small shelf. It also needs its matress replaced as it sinks in tbe middle. The second bed is close to the wooden (Barn type door) that has a constant draft, so in the mist of winter was freezing over night.
The linnen however is quite cosy.
Between the beds is an old desk, that could be removed and replaced with wall shelves to help with space.
The heating is a plug inelectric that really stuggled with the minus degrees over night and drafts from the door.
It is the cutest little room and with some privacy curtains, fixing the draft and heating is a fun stay away if are close friends.
- Oliver (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bethany (8/5): Cotswold hideaway, best experienced in the warmer months! - Well located, easy to access and parking wasn’t a problem. Cosy and cute property, clean and the welcome basket was a very nice touch. The lack of door/curtain/separation between the bathroom and sleeping area was an issue, particularly as we were two friends of the opposite gender. We managed by one person going for a walk in Moreton whilst the other had a shower, but it wasn’t ideal.
Property was also cold (we did go on the coldest weekend in November) even with the portable heater on and there was a constant draught from the front door.
- Thamayanthy (10/5): would recommend. - It was easy to find, instructions to get the keys were clear. My partner and I loved it. There could be more heaters in the room.
- Greg (7/5): The small issues Ive mentioned aren't really a problem for a short stay and didn't really impact too much althou - Great location in the middle of town , close to train station , clean and tidy. Likely cheaper than the other offerings in the area As the heater was on there was nowhere to hang clothes as it's directly above . Not enough electrical sockets as mentioned previously
- Mollie (5/5): Passable - Great location, bed was comfortable The room is tiny, it is literally just a room but the main problem is that the only thing that separates the bed and the bathroom is a curtain so it lacks privacy if you’re sharing with someone. Plus the heater omitted a foul smell and the shower gel was empty when we arrived
- Clem (3/5): I wouldn’t recommend staying here despite the great location - The location is great. The room was so small, 2 of you couldn’t really move around. The beds were too small for adults. There is absolutely no privacy with the shower right in-front of the front door and a glass screen. The shower was either scoldingly hot or freezing cold. No water pressure in the tiny sink. No heating except for a heater so the beds were cold and felt damp in the evenings.
- Gunning (4/5): Disappointing - The location was good The room was very compact. Unfortunately there was a very bad smell of drains in our room. These things happen so I’m sure it’s something that can be rectified but it was not ideal.
- William (2/5): - Room was damp and fan heater - nothing like the photos on the website. I REFUSED TO STAY AND LEFT. RUINED MY EVENING
- Emily (8/5): Very good - Enjoyed the complimentary snacks and teas that were left. The room was fine for one person while travelling for work. Wifi wasn't particularly strong which is tricky when there is no phone signal in the area, so you do need it to work.
- Gordon (4/5): Sad and disappointing. - The goodie basket was a nice touch. The bedding was nice. Bed was comfy. The issue that completely ruined our stay was the smell of sewer coming from the shower drain every time we flushed the toilet. The stone wall, while aesthetically pleasing to some, was damp, cold and as such had that dank smell. We could not get warm. We asked for a heater and one appeared. It was a very small heater, and it was just too small to warm even the tiny room we had. Cute idea that fell so short, it was a complete disappointment.
We did not go on the Booking site to get entry information. We thought we would get an email. In the end we banged on the door, and someone helped us get in. Later, when we went on booking, we found the message. A bit of rough start, but we realized our part in that situation.
- Mary (5/5): Passable - One lamp. Small bathroom bench space. NO luggage space
- Kellie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (9/5): Superb -
- Cheryl (9/5): A quaint cottage like experience. - It was such a cute little place with a lovely courtyard entrance within walking distance from the train station. A quaint little town.
- Ellis (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tama (5/5): Quaint, but challenging - The location was great and by appearances it was a quaint property. The room was small with little room for luggage. The bathroom does not have a door and it was very challenging to get the shower water to a nice temperature. It was chilly during the nights during our stay.
- Maurice (7/5): Good -
- Justin (9/5): Great stay in a cosy property in a perfect location - Property was clean.and the gift basket was a nice touch.perfect location. Nothing
- Lear (9/5): Superb -
- Rebecca (3/5): Never again - The bed was comfortable with soft linen. The smell coming from the toilet was so bad we had to sleep with the door to the unit open. The toilet was clean but it smelt like gas. The unit was so small and cramped. Not worth the money at all.
- Marco (8/5): Probably the best value for money in Moreton - Beautiful place probably just refurbished, silent and welcoming Mattress is really uncomfortable, too soft and small for a couple.
- Christine (6/5): Twin room was great location but uncomfortable - Priced reasonably compared to other locations in town
For the twin only:
- there’s a kettle with tea amenities and snacks
- any room off the Main Street will be loud because there’s a steady flow of cars passing through, but the courtyard of the unit buffered the traffic sound For the twin room only:
- both of the mattresses were sagging in the middle and very hard
- the mattress near the door is made for someone less than 5 foot 4 inches tall, it’s short
- there’s no separation between the bathroom and rest of the unit, so if someone is using the bathroom is echoes throughout
- very tight space , not really made for 2 adults. More so for 1 adult and 1 kid or just 1 adult
- there’s little space to put your belongings , needs shelves to feel more homely
- kay (6/5): - Clean and quiet. Expected a door on bathroom .
- Dewet (10/5): AMAZING! - What an absolute gem of a property!
We arrive a little late, but the property is completely self check-in and all the codes were sent to us the day before arrival so it was super well organized!
We stayed in the double room and it was amazing! We had a welcome basket waiting for us on the bed which included some yummy snacks and goodies which was a great touch! The room was very spacious with a very comfortable bed and TV. The Wifi worked super well while I was watching youtube on my phone while my girlfriend was streaming on Netflix. The bathroom was well equipped and always had hot water on demand.
The location of the property is amazing as it's nice and central. There are plenty of coffee shops, restaurants and pubs which we came across when taking a short walk through Moreton-in-Marsh. Great value for money!
Would recommend staying here to anyone travelling in the area. Knew what I was booking and was blown away when we arrived in the room! N/A
- Hannah (9/5): Superb -
- Susan (10/5): Really nice apartment with all the facilities you'll ever need and very comfortable bed! - The location was beautiful on the doorstep of everything in Moreton-In-Marsh, really pretty scenery as well! Can't think of anything!
