Guest Reviews
- Hooton (10/5): Spacious, scenic with a comfortable beds - Spacious and in a ideal location Nothing it perfect for what we needed it for
- Lynsey (8/5): Pretty perfect really - Location. Size of the house and it was very well equipped. We had an issue with the heating the first night but an engineer came out the next day. It didn’t spoil anything. Fridge could do with a clean.
- Harle (10/5): Lovely setting and spacious property! - Fantastic property in great location with great views. Great for our group aged from 5 to 70.. of six adults and four children celebrating a 70th birthday. Perfect size and layout. Close enough to the nearest town to shop / eat out but remote enough to be private. The only issue was the lack of a dish washing machine which would have been great and would have meant some of the glasses and pots etc were cleaned properly by the previous guests.
- Joyce (10/5): Amazing place for a chilled weekend with family and friends - The house is beautiful and had everything we needed kitchen wise for our 2 night stay. The location was idyllic and was such a relaxing weekend with friends and family.
We also got a visit every morning from the farmers fox red lab when he could smell breakfast being cooked. Couldn't fault anything.
- Laura (9/5): Superb - Lots of space for large groups
- Dewi (10/5): Fabulous house, wonderful location, this is a very special place! - We loved the thought and care that the owners have put into this beautiful home. Lots of space, comfortable furnishings, we had lots of great family moments which included meals in the dining room and then games in the living room. Fabulous!
- Jamie (9/5): Brilliant Country House - Great setting, secluded with beautiful views over the countryside. The house was amazing, I’ve stayed in a lot of country houses over the years and this one is definitely a place to remember and to revisit. We are looking forward to future visits. The check in time at 1700 is the only thing that was a bit negative. I understand there is only one cleaner, which for such a large house would take all day to clean for the next guests. But this is the latest check in we’ve ever experienced and we’ve stayed in a lot of Airbnbs and self catering properties over the years. Maybe if there was a second cleaner guests could get access to this lovely property a bit sooner. Everyone has also made mention of the lack of a dishwasher but it’s not that bad, there are two sinks one in the kitchen and one in the large utility room. So it’s not a big issue and if it stops people/groups from booking then they don’t deserve the place anyway.
- Karen (8/5): Very good -
- April (7/5): Amazing place - The house is amazing the surroundings were beautiful .. the perfect countryside was more than ideal for long walks in total peace and quiet. Had a really lovely stay for my 50th weekend .. having everyone together made the weekend perfect .. i hate to say, but it felt a little shadowed by the fact we weren't told until a day or 2 days before arrival day .. that the dog wasn't allowed upstairs and we couldn't leave the dog alone in the house if we went out .. which left the question " if you can leave them downstairs whilst we are asleep for over 6 hours ... why can't the dog stay in the kitchen while we went out for 3 to 4 hours???? This should be made clear on the booking page before you book .. " Dogs welcome " is a little miss leading, i believe. Maybe you should have a team of cleaners for such a large property as it is obviously too much for one person. That said, I'm so glad we stayed here it was a Gem in the Hills!!
- Gillian (10/5): Very relaxing and peaceful, the gardens and outside space with open views of the countryside were amazing - The property has everything needed for a large family, we were especially pleased with the beautiful enclosed gardens and paddock for the children and family dog to enjoy Can’t think of anything we didn’t like
- Andy (8/5): Excellent family getaway - Excellent location and type of property All what we expected in the type of property we stayed. No bad points to mention
- Veronica (9/5): We had a very enjoyable stay. - Spacious and very comfortable house in a beautiful location. Some issue with dog hairs which hadn’t been cleaned due to the cleaner having unavoidable limited time to complete the tasks.
- Charlie (8/5): A beautiful, well equipped base for adventures - The house and the location are both exceptional. It really is a beautiful, peaceful place to spend some time.
There's lots to do in the area, both nearby and further afield.
The house is incredibly well equipped with everything you could need for a comfortable stay. From anything including a bread maker, Nespresso machine and all the pots and pans needed to cater for the full house, to thoughtful items such as hot water bottles in the bedrooms and various blankets, games and DVDs in the house keeping you cosy, comfy and entertained.
The hosts are responsive, and throughout the run up and during our stay they were easy to get hold of.
The house is far more than as described in the listing. It just doesn't do it justice. There's even a cute little play house in the garden which the little one in our group really loved.
The bathrooms are both gorgeous and the facilities are lovely. The showers especially so.
There's a lovely outside seating area which we really enjoyed sitting in in the evenings watching the bats, moths, listening to the owls, and watching the stars. Just a stunning and very special place to be. While it's definitely a beautiful place with a lot of thought put into what's on offer there, hence the high overall rating. This wouldn't be a fair review without flagging a few snags that took the edge off for us.
There are a number of house rules which aren't made clear in the listing here on Booking.com, and you aren't made aware of until close to your stay. Notably the more specific rules around where dogs can be in the house and grounds. This led to an enormous amount of anxiety during our stay as we were all very worried that dog hair getting around the house could lead to a harsh additional cleaning fee. So on a number of occasions during our short stay we hoovered the whole house. The host was very happy with this, but it didn't lead to a very good experience for us as it was on our minds so much and having to clean so much while on holiday isn't ideal. It would be really helpful if house rules like this were posted in the policies section so we could have made a more informed decision as to whether this was the right property for us with the types of dogs we had with us.
The lack of a dishwasher is definitely an issue. As while I don't have one at home so have no issue with hand washing, however in a house of that many people it's impractical. Whether plumbed into the kitchen or the utility, either way it would make for a much more comfortable stay.
The check in/out times are also quite restrictive and again take the edge off the relaxing time away, especially of a precious short break. I fully appreciate they have a very large house to clean which is why they have the times they do, but it would make more sense to bring in an additional cleaner as the rural location will inevitably require a long journey too/from for many and so restrictive check in/out times can be tough going.
- Diane (10/5): Three generations under one roof , meeting our granddaughter all the way from Australia. - A beautiful house with everything that you will need for a relaxed holiday.Views absolutely gorgeous, plenty of space both indoors and out . Clear communication between host. We have stayed in lots of holiday rentals throughout the U.K and I would put Follions as my number one . Highly recommend this property. Nothing as stated before a dishwasher , but we were told beforehand.
- Lee (10/5): Exceptional -
