• Naomi (10/5): We loved the apartment, thank you! - The apartment was in an amazing location right in the palace with a beautiful view of the tower. The large balcony/terrace was fab and on the decent weather days got the sun all day. There was plenty of space for our family of 3 and both the large bed and sofa bed were very comfy. The property was also equipped with everything we could need. Host was helpful and responsive. People have commented on the bells and the stairs - neither of these things bothered us at all. We really don’t have anything negative to say.
• SAM (10/5): Lovely apartment in the heart of old town. - Lovely apartment with a nice big balcony. Wow ! The hosts were very helpful and even assisted us in taking our bags up to the 5th floor. Location in the heart of the old. Highly recommend this place.
• Susannah (10/5): Beautiful apartment in incredible location. - Perfect location right in the heart of the old town, within the walls of Diocletian’s Palace. We loved the incredible view from the terrace, which looks out towards the St Domnius tower. The apartment was absolutely delightful and very spacious, with everything very clean and well maintained. We had everything we needed. The owners were very friendly and communication was excellent. Nothing - all was wonderful.

• A (8/5): Lovely apartment and great location - dissapointed with the care given regarding hot water. - The location was exceptional and the view from balcony was well worth the price we paid. We were given a bottle of wine and a couple of beer which was a nice touch. The host was lovely but we expected abit more given the circumstances of no hot water. Arrival instructions came just as we arrived in Split and we had no internet so we were very lost. It took quite an effort to make contact with the host who was not at the location. The hot water service was broken and this was explained to us upon arrival. We were offered the option to cancel and get a refund . Unsure of where we would go though! Th eservice was repaired at 8PM but we were not able to use the spa bath the entire stay. No offer of compensation was offered - only a text apology. The wifi did not work in the bedroom.

• Magda (10/5): - This place is pure magic, located just inches away from where the Roman emperor was buried, inside his palace. You can savour the unique atmoshere of ancient times and enjoy the privacy of a very comfortable apartment. The squere below is very vibrant, with life music and professional dancers, whom you can watch from the above.
• Dino Neil (9/5): Perfect - It must be the perfect place to stay in Split. You couldn't be more in the centre of things but it's still cosy and peaceful. The service and support from the team is amazing. We were genuinely sad to leave. Yes, there's the stairs and the bells but you're in the middle of an amazing city full of history. There's nothing not to like.
• Laurie (10/5): A Wonderful Accommodation in the Heart of It - The Penthouse is in a fabulous location right in the heart of the Old City and yet the accommodation was private and quiet. We even had the live performances of Caesar happening with the stage adjacent to our balcony but we could barely hear it with the doors and windows closed. The rooms were spacious with lovely, comfortable furnishings. The small kitchen was well equipped. The bathroom was very large and contained a washing machine for extra convenience. The air con and WiFi were good. The host even provided a complimentary bottle of wine and a couple of beers. We highly recommend anyone to stay at Penthouse Markovic for a lovely experience in Split. The 4 floors up with suit cases would be difficult for anyone who isn’t strong enough to manage. Our host did offer assistance which we didn’t require.

• Dorte (8/5): Great location, but a bit pricy for what you get. Nice hosts. - Located in the center of Split with a view over the Cathedral, it doesn't get more central. The apartment was very spacious and had a nice balcony. The hosts were very friendly and helpful and answered all questions immediately. The kitchen was well equipped and the only two things we would have liked to be available was a microwave and a grill on the balcony, but it was definately possible to cook nice meals in the kitchen. We have to big teenageboys who does not like to share a bed, so the host provided extra sheets, so they didn't have to share sheets. As others mentioned the apartment is on the third floor with no elevator, but I think that's a minor detail. Parking is a few minutes away, which we didn't mind, but it was rather expensive (July 2025: EUR1,5/hour). The host had explained that it was possible to park for free in the streets, but it was impossible to find a public parking spot. The sofabed in the living room was ok to sleep on for a couple of nights, but it wasn't great. We ended up letting our oldest sleep in the bedroom and our youngest slept on the chaiselong, while my husband and I shared the sofabed.
• Yehya (8/5): - Our stay at Penthouse Matkovic, though only for two nights, left a truly lasting impression. The very good space of the penthouse was immediately apparent, offering ample room to relax and spread out comfortably. However, the absolute highlight was undoubtedly the wonderful view and location. Waking up to such breathtaking scenery and being perfectly situated to explore was an absolute dream. What also struck us was that the house genuinely has all that is needed to stay longer. From a well-equipped kitchen to comfortable living areas, it felt like a true home away from home, making us wish we could have extended our trip The only significant downside we encountered was the three-floor stairs. While fine for a short stay with minimal luggage, carrying multiple bags up and down proved to be quite an awful ordeal. Something to definitely consider if you're traveling with a lot of luggage.
• Charlotte (10/5): Location is worth every penny, do no hesitate. It's better than it looks - Loved this apt. It's much nicer than the photos show. Bedroom and patio furniture have been updated and are very comfortable. The view and location are the best and apt is well-appointed, even had coffee and water for us. Once you know the short cuts it's 5 min to everything: go down through the palace to get to Riva, the Green market to get to the ferries. The stairs-4 flights. The church bell rings at 7am, I didn't hear it in bedroom but you do on the couch.
• William (10/5): A luxury stay within the ancient palace - A beautiful roomy apartment in a great location overlooking the bell tower of the cathedral. My friend enjoyed the massive bedroom and I was very comfortable on the sofa bed, it makes the kitchen / lounge like a studio in its own right. We easily found the agent a few minutes from the flat, he took us there and even carried our bags up the stairs. The terrace is huge. It's worth bearing in mind there isn't a lift but the flat, location, view and terrace make up for that
• Sarah (10/5): The most wonderful apartment in the most perfect location - This was one of the best places I've ever stayed in. The location is unbelievable. Right in the middle of everything and so lovely to wake up without the crowds and sit on the balcony with a coffee just taking it all in ( or a wine in the evening listening to all the music playing below ). The apartment is huge with everything you could possibly need. And what a wonderful welcome to find a fridge with juice and wine and beer all provided free of charge. Yes there's four flights of stairs but oh my goodness what a view. Check in and check out was seamless and so easy to navigate your way around. Lots of wonderful restaurants and interesting shops and walking distance to the port. Can't recommend highly enough. Nothing

• Clare (10/5): Fantastic Apartment! - Excellent location, with the terrace overlooking the Bell Tower. The host was very helpful. Keys are collected from a nearby location and the host walked over and showed us around the apartment on arrival. The fridge had some complimentary water, prosecco and beer, which we enjoyed while sat on the terrace. Spacious, clean apartment, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Nothing, it was all fantastic! (Just a note to advise others though - the apartment is on the 4th floor and there is no lift - but it's good exercise!)

• Delphine (10/5): Amazing view, unforgettable stay - The apartment was beautiful, super comfortable, with nice attentios for guests (fresh drinks and wine). The view on the terrace was mind-blowing, right in front of the cathedral. The location is truly exceptional. Nothing, it was perfect.

• Diane (10/5): We loved fhe Penthouse Matkovic - would absolutely recommend staying there! - The best thing was the location - right in the center of the old town! The Penthouse was amazing - spacious living area and balcony, large bedroom and master bath, fully equipped kitchen and extra half bath made our stay even better! Getting to the property was difficult and parking even more so.

Air conditioning in all rooms, breathtaking views of the Palace! Super comfy beds. The owners were so friendly and welcoming and helpful in advising us how to book tours, find supermarkets etc.
• Katie (10/5): Amazing apartment in the middle of Old Town! - Amazing apartment, the hosts are so friendly and easily contactable. Right in the middle of Old Town so easy to get to everything. Would recommend for a group of friends. Lovely large outside balcony. Would stay again. :) Nothing! But if you find walking up stairs difficult this might not be the best place for you to stay. :)
• Carol (10/5): Exceptional apartment in the heart of Split . - This is one of the best apartments we have ever stayed in. Spacious, immaculately clean. Superb location. Better than represented in the photos. Management went above and beyond assisting with airport transfers, restaurant recommendations and helping with luggage upstairs on arrival and on checkout . The hand held shower mentioned by many has replaced with a fixed head. Yes there are stairs, and yes, there’s a huge church bell but why else are you travelling if not to experience these things?

Jacuzzi was a waste of time as water pressure was so low it took too long fill, would be better with a good shower rather than the extension tap they have. Bells bells bells, can’t help it but church bells all morning

Every evening there is a live music down in the main cathedral square which is heard from the terrace. Bells in the tower starts to ring at 6 a.m. every day - it is impossible to not hear them even with closed windows.

• Jacquie (10/5): Fabulous apartment in the most perfect location in Split - Fabulous apartment in the most perfect location, right in the heart of Diocletians Palace overlooking the main square and Bell Tower, where we were treated to a multitude of musical performances and events without even having to leave the terrace - a wedding party, nightly musical renditions from a guy outside the Luxor restaurant, a traditional group dance performance in traditional costume with accompanying band, a daily appearance by the Emperor and his Roman guards, it really was all going on!!! No shortage of restaurants, bars and shops all within the walls. The apartment was spacious, had all amenities we could need( great to be able to do a washing too), comfy bed, great aircon, lovely terrace, and Marina our host was really helpful. She met us at the apartment, lots of useful info, a lovely bottle of wine, beers and water in the fridge which was a nice touch too. Would definitely stay again. As most have already mentioned, 7 sets of stairs to reach the apartment took a bit of getting used to, but that's the price of having such a great view! And again, a walk in shower would be much better than a jacuzzi bath with handheld shower, , but these are minor issues and wouldn't deter me from staying there again. One small point - the separate 2nd loo had a bad drainage smell, presumably from ancient sewage system, so we had to keep the door shut all the time and we barely used it.

• Claude (9/5): Amazing location and views - no shower - The location is right in the middle of old town. You are literally on top of the square of Saint Domnius Cathedral. The views are simply amazing and worth the price alone. The apartment is comfortable with spacious bedroom. All though this apartment has amazing views and a great location, there is one major drawback: There is no proper shower in this apartment. For some reason, the owners elected to put in a huge spa bathtub instead of a shower. Not very practical. The bathroom itself is huge, so it is incomprehensible why such a basic essentiel feature is not present in such a great apartment.

Maybe assistance with luggage - even offered at an extra rate would have been fine. Bath, but no shower.
