Guest Reviews
- Janet (5/5): Great location but needs tlc - The house looks nice inside and it’s an easy walk to Bowness on Windermere The house needs a deep clean and someone to go in and fix the furniture. The table in the lounge and bedrooms were not stable, cupboard door under sink needs fixing and doors adjusting to fit properly. There are lots of cobwebs and the garden gate has been removed, so the garden is not secure for children or dogs.
The garden is covered in wood bark and mud, again, difficult for children and dogs.
The instructions say there is a hive heating system, but it’s not, and took some working out, also instruction pack said there was a welcome from the owners, but we had nothing.
If you want to use the wood burner, they only provide kindling and paper, so you have to buy your own logs which cost £10 per day.
The cottage is lovely but for the price I expected it to be clean and fixtures and fittings to be in good working order.
The location is good, we didn’t have a car, which was good as I don’t think we’d have been able to park.
It needs so tlc to get it up to the standard I would expect for the price and a fully stocked wood store.
We enjoyed the area, but would not stay in this properly again.
- Matthew (9/5): Superb - The house was clean and well equipped, with everything we needed, really comfortable and with good heating which was needed in December in the Lakes! Good location within walking distance of Windermere and there was even a Christmas tree so we enjoyed our Christmas break even more🎄 There were a few really minor bits of maintenance which were very small and didn't get in the way of us enjoying our break, but just needs someone to go round checking things over. For example the lighter for the fireplace has run out, as had the batteries in the emergency torches. There was a door on one of the kitchen units which didn't close properly, and the back gate the same. Would just take an hour to go round and do all the little jobs.
- Julie (4/5): Overpriced, needs significant investment and attention. - Very little unfortunately The table for 6 people was too cosy and needs to be changed for longer but narrower table. Most of the chairs were unstable and uncomfortable.
There is a crack in the downstairs toilet seat
The door to the front bedroom had to be repaired during the stay
One of the glasses was chipped - so left out for disposal
No light in the fridge
The rear outside was slippy and needs cleaning to prevent an accident.
The back door is broken so unable to get to the bins
The derelict house next door is a shock in the daylight, didn’t notice it when we first arrived as it was dark.
The house was musty and we had to open all the windows to change the air
The radiators need bleeding
- Margaret (8/5): A nice stay - The house was clean . On arrival the house was freezing . Called the owner on Saturday morning and heating was fixed. The house was absolutely freezing. The log burner had not been cleaned out. No lighter to put log burner on. Just a tip owner could leave a few logs just to get fire started if you arrive late.
- Janet (5/5): Good location needs some work on facilities - Good location easy to walk into Windermere. Comfy beds and good shower. The property is advertised as pet friendly when we arrived the rear was hanging off its hinges so my husband had to secure the gate with a brick to ensure our dog couldn’t escape. The TV doesn’t work properly and Wi-Fi is poor this had nothing to do with the weather as this issue has been mentioned previously in reviews by other guests. The house next door at no 21, whilst I realise the owners of Blackcombe Cottage have no control over this however to constantly have to look at the rear of this property that is extremely run down with a collapsed roof broken windows and insecure rear door and a boundary wall that is easy for someone to jump over does not make you feel safe in an area you don’t really know.
