• Joao (10/5): - A casa fica dentro de um condomínio que parece pertencer à paisagem da ilha, no meio de rochas e vegetação. Fica estrategicamente localizado a curta distância da cidade mas longe da sua agitação, num oásis de paz e tranquilidade, perto de todas as fantásticas praias da ilha. A casa está muito bem decorada e equipada, mas é no seu alpendre que a magia acontece, especialmente ao nascer do sol. Lá apetece ficar a contemplar a vista a todas as horas do dia e da noite.

• Gottfried (10/5): A wonderful retreat on La Maddalena - We were so fortunate to find Casa Bouganville at short notice after our original booking for La Maddalena was cancelled. Normally I avoid “holiday villages”, but the complex was beautifully done, with smaller ‘pockets’ of houses hidden in a world of greenery, and planned so that each enjoys it’s own privacy. The houses are built in the traditional island style with lots of natural stone. We were alone at the end of September apart from occupants at the top of our area and a friendly next-door neighbour with her lovable old San Bernadino. The casa is clearly a much-loved family place, filled with artwork and extremely well equipped, and we felt completely at home there. The terrace wall is adorned with a wonderul murale of a Sardinian shepherd, done by Thomas’s father (I have replied to him, Thomas - ancora una volta grazie mile :-)). La Maddalena was still fairly full at the end of September, but acceptably so, and was a restful haven after mainland Sardinia. Definitely take a trip to Caprera (view from the terrace) and hike to the Batteria di Candeo at the northern end of the island, where it’s fun to scramble amongst the fascinating military look-out posts camouflaged by the native huge rocks to blend into the landscape. NB: the lovely Cala Cotticio beach on Caprero can only be accessed with a guide and prior online booking. Thomas is a warm and responsive host via WhatsApp, and Gabriella, who met us on arrival, is a true delight. La Maddalena is a little slice of heaven, and the villagio and casa are part of that slice.
