Guest Reviews
- Rasha (8/5): Recommend it a 1 night stay - It’s very clear that a lot of work and thought had gone into designing and curating the space. It looks better in person than in the pictures. The bed is quite big and all the facilities are great. It’s not too far from the center of the city and the walk there is quite scenic. My one major complaint would be the bed and pillows. They definitely need to be updated, especially the pillows. They have definitely reached the end of their lives. It’s not feasible to stay there for more than a night just because of this particular issue
- Charmayne (10/5): Brilliant place to stay - We loved the theme. It was comfortable and clean and the owner was lovely and helpful, Nothing
- Sarah Louise (10/5): Fabulous! Creative, Comfy, Clean and Creepy! - What an AMAZING find.
It was such a fun stay the decor is perfect. Not over the top litterally JUST enough yo create the perfect atmosphere.
Fab attention to detail & for 1 or 2 nights its fantastic.
Very clean, awesome bathroom, a few kitchen facilities.
We did try on the outfits just to be silly and we really loved that extra touch!
Host was friendly and helpful too.
There is an apartment upstairs so you can hear them but the street itself is quiet & a 20 min walk to city centre or £7/8 in a taxi.
Parking was a bonus too!
Unusual stay that was defo more exciting than a hotel!
- KayleighB94 (10/5): The perfect dead but delicious stay - The house was lovely, very well themed and perfect for a gothic horror lover. - C Walkup
I absolutely loved it, dead but delicious. The decor was perfect, the ambiance matched everything. Very well thought out, I may need you to go decor shopping with me because when I buy my house this year, this is the vibe I want!! Quiet area, perfect location for either walking to main town or car!! Takeaway over the road is lovely, the little shop is convenient. Honestly loved it so much and the dress, was used to take a few photos in the room because it HAD to be done! N/A
- Kelly (8/5): Was lovely thank you , next time we come back we might book the Wednesday house 😀 - Brilliant the kids loved our stay they loved the decor The bunk beds were very wobbly and creeky every time they moved , they were nervous the bed was going to collapse on them so they ended up in my bed with me . When playing out in the back garden my 7 year old fell through the decking causing it to crumble and my son with a damaged leg , had a few tears but was okay after no serious damage just a few scratches .
- Michael (10/5): Great stay in a very well themed room. - Great theme Nothing
- Shari (10/5): Will visit again! - The decor was beyond amazing the property was clean and well presented. It's lose to the center and easy to get to shops and via taxi bus or walking. There's a nature reserve close by thats a nice walk. That I can't live here!
- Sarah (7/5): -
- anthony (9/5): Great apartment -
- Jeff023 (10/5): A truly unique and memorable stay - Such a brilliant place to stay! The Transylvania theme was so much fun and the attention to detail was incredible. The apartment was clean, cosy, and comfortable, and the location in York was perfect. Our kids were amazed, and we loved our stay and would 100% recommend it to anyone visiting York.
- Dan (10/5): - I booked Transylvania House accommodation for two of my colleagues who were working in the York area. The job was scheduled to be completed within two days, so expectations were high — especially theirs.
Unfortunately for them, they were expecting something along the lines of a Hilton or Marriott. Instead, they were greeted by Transylvania House: a full-on vampire-themed property that could make even Dracula feel at home. Let’s just say the décor was… memorable. Cobweb vibes, spooky atmosphere, and a general feeling that someone might be watching you from the shadows.
They found it a bit creepy (understatement of the year), so I gently motivated them by explaining that the job must be finished within two days — otherwise, they’d be relocated to the even more terrifying Wednesdays Family Rooms.
Miraculously, all work was completed on time. My engineers returned home safely, in one piece, and — most importantly — without any vampire bites, mysterious neck marks, or sudden aversions to sunlight.
Overall, a very effective accommodation if you need motivation, teamwork, and fast job completion. Would book again… but maybe not for the faint-hearted.
- Lucinda (7/5): Nice place and lots of character, great parking - Location and parking No milk for the tea or coffee
- Clare (10/5): Super fun stay in themed property - Fun decor, lots of thought and detail in it. Super comfy beds, nice shower, great location. Liked all of ut
- Jared (7/5): -

- Catherine (10/5): Great theme, great location. - Brilliant theme! Lovely
Little creepy details everywhere! Great communication from owner, parking was fine. Given great instruction but on street parking was also plenty. Little shop and take away at top of the street, close to York centre. UBER cost us £8 Nothing. We stayed with friends and I guess the only thing was that the bathroom was in our bedroom so that was a bit difficult but ok for 1 night.
- Craig (8/5): Overall it was great my daughter loved the spooky theme and it was nice - My daughter was thrilled by the theme Bunk bed could use some tightening up with an Allen key
- Chloe (10/5): Brilliant atmosphere, really fun for a short stay - Booking.com gave us the wrong code for the key safe. But I rang Camelia and she was there within 2 minutes to help us out. Kitchen facilities only suitable for breakfast.
- Jiayang (2/5): -
- Lawson (10/5): - Excellent, quirky, was like been in Draculas castle
- Suin (10/5): - Tout était parfait, surprenant et agréable ! RAS
- Karen (10/5): Absolutely amazing place to stay. - The whole vibe of the apartment was fantastic. Definitely felt like being in a room in Draculas castle.
The little transylvania book in the main bedroom gives a wealth of information especially about the buses. Maybe take out the bunk beds and make that bedroom into a little sitting room with a pull out bed. There wasn't anywhere to sit and relax, unless you go outside.
- Jemma Waugh (8/5): Great little find! - Great location, easy for getting buses into the city centre. The style of the flat was brilliant - very well thought out design! A sofa in the main room would have been nice as spent the week loafing on the bed. Bigger cupboard in the kitchenette for food storage. Other than that it was great.
- Angela (10/5): - Absolutely the most fantastic house. The attention to detail is amazing. I'm a huge horror fan so when I saw this home I had to stay , it did not disappoint. 100% will stay again x We had sooo much fun x Video on tiktok @partyofpriors Was amazing, zero bad points x
- Wittawat (7/5): Good -
- Chrissy (9/5): Great base to stay for exploring the city - Great location, good base. Towels and toiletries provided. Kettle and microwave and tea and coffee provided.
- Roz (9/5): Superb - Really fun place to stay with the gothic design.
Nice to stay somewhere a little more unusual .
- Benjamin (10/5): Exceptional - Great facilities, amazing ambience, very clean, super convenient location a few minutes from the City Centre, you can walk or take a bus.
- Julie (8/5): Very good - The flat was so unique . The attention to detail was fantastic.
Close to the city centre yet in a very quiet residential area. A couple of major issues on arrival. The cleaner hadn't been and booking.com had double booked the room but the owner soon sorted the issues out. The place was immaculate when we got back that evening .
- Andrea (1/5): Disgraceful - You cancelled our stay with less than 10 minutes notice. Apparently you overbooked our room. We were on our way when we were notified. No explanation, nothing.
- Clare (6/5): A fun and interesting stay in which personality makes up for a less practicality. - The place was really fun, from the moment we arrived there were so many things to check out and a lot of thought had gone into the small details in terms of the themed aspect of the accommodation. The location worked for us, although not right in town it was a chilled out 15-20 minute walk or there were several buses that you could also use. We found the beds quite uncomfortable, a bit saggy/soft and squeaky. The bathroom was also quite small, the shower cubicle was difficult to move around in. What it had in personality it perhaps lacked in practicality.
- Carrie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Melissa (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing
- Jayne (7/5): really lovely quirky place - amazing decor , great communication the heating was really difficult to work out and so spent the night very cold , was too late to contact host , would have been better on a timer maybe
- David (10/5): Fantastic Decor but also great facilities. Perfect. - Not only is the decor fantastic to the last level of detail everything works - good heating n a very cold day, hot showers, all the cooking facilities you could need, a TV in both rooms. Also the owner went the extra mile when we forgot to bring something from home. Would highly recommend The mattress was perhaps a bit soft but that is splitting hairs
- Ann (10/5): Exceptional -
- H (9/5): Very different to the “norm” - very well done - Lovey and warm as we arrived on a cold wet day.
Great character property
- Belinda (7/5): Great decor, tiny place - Beautiful attention to details, decor was outstanding, clean and well maintained Much smaller than it appeared in the website. For a family of four, it was cramped and uncomfortable.
- Gemma (10/5): Amazing. Will be booking to come back - Lovely quirky little place. Comfortable bed. Plenty of room for a couple or small family. Nothing
- Ella (10/5): Unique and comfortable - Really quirky yet so comfortable and cosy. So much attention to detail.
- Nichola (10/5): Fabulous 5⭐️ - Perfect location only a short walk into town, the room attention to detail was amazing very unique and quirky N/A
- Andrea (10/5): Exceptional - Wow, this house really makes you feel you are in transylvania. Every single fixture and fitting has had soo much thought put into it.
I did have reservations at first when I saw the old style beds, but honestly speaking, they are the most comfortable beds I have ever laid on.
Bedding lovely, clean and cosy
The whole place creates an old spooky look, but at the same time fresh, comfortable and clean
The host very friendly, helpful and extremely accommodating.
Can't wait to stay in her Wednesday room tonight!
- Jessica (10/5): Perfect! - I loved the theme and the decoration.
It was clean and tidy. Easy to access and the host very friendly and quick to respond. Definitely recommend!
- Adrian (8/5): Very good - Very clean loved the quirky Comfy bed would stay again Bit of a treck into centre but wouldn’t put my off staying again
- Laura (9/5): Excellent themed experience and a lovely place to stay - The theming of the room was fantastic, the host was quick to respond to emails and very helpful, the cleanliness and facilities in the room were exactly what we needed. Space to sit at a table together would've been nice, although there's not enough room inside, there could've been something outside, but that's just a space issue really!
- Samantha (8/5): Fun place for a short stay. - Main bedroom was spacious. Theme very well done. Appreciated the kitchenette. Bunk bed area was cramped. Couldn’t access the bathroom or kitchenette without disturbing the person staying in the bunk beds. Shower was very small.
- Andy (10/5): Exceptional - We loved Transylvania House the decor was fantastic right up our street. Camelia the host was lovely. It was placed just right for us with a bus stop around the corner, there's loads of amenities nearby where you can purchase milk etc. The loo seat was loose, but overall the place was pretty great
- Kim (7/5): Good - It was close to the city centre just jumped in an uber for £6, it was probably one if the weirds place but funny that we stayed in! The attention to detail is great and it was a nice experience as a birthday present.clean and tidy and camelia was kind enough to ket us meet the cleaner there for warly checkin. Four of us stayed in the downstairs apartment that is sold as accommodation for 4 (double bed in the front room which was big and comfy) and whilst i think kids will be fine in the kitchen in the bunk beds not so great for 2 nearly 60 year olds! With hindsight up stairs apartment would have been better.
- Hazel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karen (8/5): Very good -
- Julie (8/5): Very good -
- Sarah (8/5): Great place to stay near University of York. - This place was perfect for our stay before a graduation ceremony. The decor is great fun and made it a bit different. There was everything we needed. It was quite dark so maybe some brighter lamps would be good.
- Lyndsey (9/5): Thank you for having us. We enjoyed our stay - Lovely property very clean. We really enjoyed our stay.
- David (4/5): Read description before booking. - Quirky and something different. Will suite 2 people maxium. Close to town center No real facilities to make food. To much sqeezed into space. Garden out the back could be cleaned up and be used by guest when weather is good. Drain outside was really smelly.
- Erica (10/5): Medieval hidden gem💎 - Wow what an amazing hidden gem..what an experience..the detail..super professionally done loved this extra fun experience on our York adventure it was marvellousl every piece of furniture was just right..so so talented..and no one would know from the outside.. delightful Can't think of anything..it was magical
- Debby (10/5): Brilliant fun - We loved it. The house has been very well decorated, it’s very gothic and fun. The outfits to try on are a great touch. Easy to find, parking available and communication good Nothing. We didn’t need cooking facilities so the lack of them was not an issue
- Thomas (9/5): Superb -
- Matthew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peta (10/5): Exceptional - Loved the theme
Walking distance to shops
Easy check-in & accessable No breakfast supplied
- Andy (10/5): Quirky Place! - Weird place, cheap, did the job
- Lee (10/5): Excellent - Amazing decor, attention to detail.
A unique experience.
- Ann (10/5): Absolutely stunning place - Everything Nothing
Door wouldn't lock on way out
- Chiara (8/5): Spooky and cute. How can it be? Come here and find out! :-) - I liked the gothic atmosphere, for once the pictures did not lie. Spooky and cute at the same time, remarkably clean and spacious. Not easy to recognise from the road. The driveway that should suffice for two cars is actually cut by the small brick wall, so I had to park diagonally and I received a message that repeated the "parking rules". Later the host confirmed that no other car was due.
- Michael (8/5): Value stay in a fun novelty place. Friendly communicative host. - Fun decor, with impressive dedication to props and costumes.. and a friendly communicative host. Parking on site. Kettle, tea and coffee, nice shower water pressure. Plugs by bed, clean, easy access/checkin, wifi reliable. If you're used to reasonably firm mattresses you may find the double bed mattress too soft/unsupportive.. I definitely found it too squishy. Hadn't realised you walk through the bunk room to get to the bathroom, but that's a minor qualm.
- Barbara (7/5): Great place to stay - The location was great with a short walk into the city It was very noisy from the guest upstairs
- Andrea (10/5): Exceptional - We liked pretty much everything! From the cleanliness to the quirky decoration! The location is very good as well. If you don't want to walk to the town centre, which takes around 40 minutes, you can easily get a bus, taxi or Uber. We certainly recommend the Transylvania House! We liked everything!
- Barbara (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gemma (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing, quirky place to stay – we had a great time! The decor is incredible and the house was very easy to access. Both apartments were separate from each other so we had complete privacy despite there being other guests. I accidentally left my iPad at the residence and Camelia was so prompt and helpful in getting this back to me! Couldn't recommend more :)
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional - Really loved how the place was decorated
Bed was super comfy
Nice and clean
Really enjoyed our stay
- Hilary (10/5): Exceptional - The stunning attention to high quality themed decor.
- Jessie (10/5): Truly Amazing - Everything was superb! The details were amazing, super clean, very comfortable, and had everything I needed. Nothing, it was all amazing.
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - The apartment was great, very cosy and well decorated with everything you need. Location is great as its only a short walk into town and Camelia is a great host! Thank you, we will be back 😁
- Nicky (10/5): Amazing - It was a fantastic place to stay. My little gothic heart sang when I saw this place. I would stay there anytime and really would recommend it to any one
- Lisa (10/5): Lovely and clean, quiet and comfortable. - See my other review against Wednesday family rooms. This is a semi detached house on a residential street which has been split into 2 flats. I rented both at the same time. This flat is accessed from the back door and is downstairs. Tastefully decorated in a Dracula theme and clean. My daughter and her boyfriend stayed in this flat, me and my husband stayed upstairs in the Wednesday Adams flat. We were given the code to the door separating both flats. This Had a double bedroom, smaller room with bunk beds and a small kitchenette area and a shower room. Nothing
- Thomas (10/5): We both had the time of our lives staying here it's such an amazing vibe for any horror fan - The whole apartment was amazing both myself and the other person staying there was overly thrilled and enjoyed our stay. You have done an amazing job on this property and we would love to stay there again on our next visit to york soon!! N/a
- Dan (6/5): Pleasant - We loved the room, the decor is amazing! The bed was so comfy and the owner couldn't have been anymore helpful! One thing we didn't like, was you could hear the guests in the other room upstairs clear as day. The room didn't feel very private and I can imagine it would be the same for the guests upstairs as well. I would definitely stay here again, but I would check and make sure the other guests are a couple before we chose this place again
- Kirsty (9/5): Good location and very quirky - would recommend! - Quirky.
Very friendly host.
Clean.
Comfortable.
Not far from city centre. Neighbours upstairs were noisy.
Very limited tea and coffee provisions.
- Mollie (10/5): Wow....just wow 👌 - Omg everything.... absolutely amazing you should be proud of what you have achieved with your accommodation. My daughter thinks it's missing a fake spider.... I have a very strange 5 year old lol
- Harris (8/5): Very good -
- Charlotte (10/5): Exceptional - Very clean
Easy check in
Great location
Really cool design and idea for the room
Bed comfy
Host was helpful and kind and informative
- Simon (9/5): Beautifully themed property not far from the city walls - Quirky, within walking distance of the centre, comfortable Location, we went on the train but there was parking
- John (4/5): Great apartment with good host but unfortunately the noise from upstairs ruined this stay. - Fantastic decor done to a great standard. The communications with the host was excellent. The house is split into upstairs and downstairs apartments with a lock on the internal adjoining door. There is not much insulation between the two apartments (you could hear conversations from above) and when the upstairs guests returned at 02:30 we were unable to sleep after this point due to a loud party being held upstairs.
The host does mention noise in her description as does another review so I’m not sure if they are renting long term, if so then unfortunately this is a very noisy place to stay especially with their front door being next to the headboard of the double bed.
It’s fair to say that the host immediately offered a partial refund due to the noise issues.
Without the noise disturbance I would score the accommodation 9/10.
- Jorge (9/5): Comfortable stay with style - Clean rooms with awesome decorations. Good wifi and facilities. Just down the road from a great pizza place and convenience store. The bathroom is a bit tight.
- Matt (9/5): Superb - Great looking place and kids enjoyed the theme
- Deb (9/5): Fantastic place - Just the pillows. We both thought they were uncomfortable and I had to get the cushion of the bunk beds.
- Leigh (10/5): Amazing, just loved it! 5* - I loved the decor so much! The bed was very comfy and the space was nice and warm. I appreciated the privacy due to the road facing window being frosted. The variation of shower heads (rain shower and usual shower) was perfect as I didn't want to get my hair wet, but my boyfriend loved the rain shower. There wasn't anything I didn't like, I didn't expect the space to be quite as small as it was, but that wasn't an issue for us I just thought I'd mention it as it may be helpful for others.
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (10/5): Excellent idea for the theme would recommend it highly - It was clean and really well laid out
- Joanne (8/5): Very good -
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Natasha (10/5): Halloween weekend - The decor is amazing really thought out. The beds are very comfy. Unique stay Cant be helped but the neighbours next door was noisy throughout the night.
- Heath (10/5): Exceptional - We loved our stay in the Transylvania House! The décor was fantastic, perfect for spooky season too. Everything was clean and the bed was super comfy.
The apartment is in a great location just outside of the city centre. It's about a 20 min walk to the centre and the bus stop is just round the corner and takes about 10 mins!
Would recommend this stay to anyone who appreciates all things gothic!
- Nicola (8/5): Lovely themed stay, would recommend x - Lovely place to stay, the dracula theme is brilliant. Beds very comfy, lovely and warm, little kitchenette to make drinks, breakfast etc, beautiful shower even though I didn't get to use it but my son had the pleasure of trying it. Location is fab with fuel station, take aways and convenience stores on your door step and then town centre is a 5 minute drive away. There needs to be a sign saying mind the step as you walk in as there is a drop. Also the bathroom door sticks and cannot open it properly. Other than that, perfect x
- Lisa (10/5): Superb stay enjoyed every minute - We loved the unique theme. Owner was very friendly and made sure everything was okay during our stay and easily contactable. Immaculately clean and spotless. Was a perfect stay. Very close to shops, bus route. Lots of thought gone into it. We loved it. Everything was clearly brand new and thought out. Had everything we needed. Only thing that would have topped this would be the spooky music like at hocus pocus lol
