- Luca (10/5): -

- Jessica (10/5): Value for money. Peaceful and restful. Heart of Main Streetclose to food - Private and views Cash only
- Conor (7/5): Good - Perfect location, amazing views. Downstairs rooms not very nice. Ask for upstairs.
- George (4/5): Huge variation in room quality - Great location situated right in the middle of town by the river (make sure you get a room facing outward to the river rather than the courtyard behind the guesthouse). Provided with a couple of bottles of water on arrival. AC worked well enough and kept the room cool. If you are staying I would absolutely make sure you get a room on the upper floor as they seem to be far better quality and exactly the same price - I assume that’s where all the good reviews have come from. Unfortunately we got a ground floor room which based upon the reviews seem to be night and day from the rooms upstairs. Our bathroom had a horrible odour for hours after showering (enough to make you gag at times and the worst we have experienced on our travels). Many other reviews mention this and it’s clear the plumbing needs overhauling but doesn’t appear that the owner has the desire to address it. The bathroom wasn’t clean at all with lots of dirt and marks all over the sink, mirror and walls etc. Water pressure absolutely not existent and shower not very warm most of the time. Initially the owner tried to overcharge us compared to the online price by inventing an exchange rate up on the spot. We ended up giving the correct amount we were quoted and it was accepted so unsure whether it was intentional or not but something to be aware of. The windows have small gaps around them and there is a ventilation hole in the wall so bugs can easily get into the room. If you’re on the ground floor you won’t get any privacy either as your windows open onto a shared patio space.
- Callum (8/5): Very good - Good hotel. The rooms are basic, but very clean and comfortable, and had good air con. The bathroom was fine too, with a good hot shower. There was just some slightly annoying plumbing from the sink that meant the floor was wet most of the time! The WiFi was non existent in our rooms, but it did work at the front of the property - I think they just need to get an extender.
There's some instant coffee provided in the morning, but no breakfast - you can just go down the road to one of the many cafes for that though. Location is really good, directly on the bridge, and easy access to everything and there's also a nice riverside view.
Overall really recommended - I think it's good value and significantly better than a lot of the places we saw in Nong Khiaw.
- Melanie (8/5): Nice and convenient place to stay -
- Jordan (8/5): Good Choice GH in Nong Khiaw - Quickly checked in by the friendly owner after finding the guesthouse easily enough after a long bus ride from Luang Prabang. We were lucky enough to be given a room overlooking the riverside so were very happy. Room was large and comfortable and the beds were fine. No breakfast or meals were included but there was free tea and coffee available all day on the shared terrace which was a nice touch. Lots of eateries and tour agents within a few minutes walk and the whole town was great value for money. This guest house is all about the location which was perfect, very quiet at night and sunset and sunrise was stunning Safety box would have been nice. Shower was located right next to the toilet presumably for the drainage which caused some slightly unpleasant odours
- Tyler (9/5): Superb -
- Audrey (6/5): Pleasant -
- Douglas (8/5): Very good - It was a decent choice and worth the money. We had a patio that looked out at the river. It was centrally located just next to the bridge over the river.
- Jayffm (7/5): Great river view, big room, but not very clean - If you get a room with river view it is amazing. The room was spacious and had a balcony. Room service (cleaning) only upon request. Not a lot of attention to detail: toilet seat loose, weird stains on the wall and the cleanliness needs to be improved: massive water stains on the mirror in the bedroom, the bathroom wasn't very clean either (toothpaste and other stains on the mirror and the wall around the sink, a dead mosquito on one of the walls, sink has goo buildup that could easily be removed with cleaner and a little scrub), staff wasn't very visible around the property, and I think the lady used her own exchange rate, which was more expensive for me than the official exchange rate... So yeah.
- Jack (8/5): Very good -
- Holly (9/5): Superb -
- Daniele (9/5): Superb - This property is in a great location with lovely views of the main bridge and all of the mountains. Only a minute walk to the main strip. Nice balcony with chairs to sit out in and enjoy. WiFi was good. Shower was fairly awkward. It wasn’t too warm and you have to take it off the wall to use as it isn’t attached to the wall properly and annoying if you’re tall.
- Philippa (9/5): Superb -
- Leah (9/5): Relaxing hotel - If you’re able to get a room with a view of the river, it’s absolutely stunning. Especially on the second floor. Pretty basic facilities, but meets expectations. Amazing balcony, very comfy bed, great AC. Really enjoyed my stay, very relaxing! Would like if the bathroom could be cleaned after staying a few days. Especially since it’s a wet room. That’s pretty much it though.
- Deyna (9/5): Superb -
- Steven (10/5): Good value and location with some rooms with river views - On the river with views from the balcony. Decent size room. Close to Cafes and shops. A bit more clothes storage/furniture would be useful.
- Alana (8/5): Very good -
- Glen (8/5): Very good -
- André (9/5): Superb - Really nice place to stay, a terrace with a perfect view over the river and mountains. Location was perfect with all shops and restaurants within 2 min distance.
The room was spacious and very clean. The bathroom smelled really bad unfortunately. It was very clean though.
- Daniel (7/5): Good - Great location, perfect view of the lake (if you’re facing outwards) and amazing value for money. No room cleaning during our whole stay however did give water and toilet roll.
- Michel (8/5): Very good -
- Joseph (8/5): Very good -
- Tabea (6/5): Pleasant - Cheap hostel at a good location in Nong Khiaw, room has everything you need for a short stay. Tea and coffee provided. Nice view of the river. - no reception, room cleaning/change of towels, toilet paper not until you check out, staff rarely available
- very bad smell from the tub in the bathroom we could not get rid of
- very badly isolated, you could hear every word people spoke outside
- Hannah (3/5): Pretty terrible. Avoid. Stunned this place has any positive reviews. - The view from our room was stunning. There was free tea and coffee available outside our room.
Central location - There is no reception, you are just supposed to intuit that you need to go to the shop across the road to check in
- They tried to charge us an extra 120,000 kip for our room than stated on booking.com
- Staff not welcoming. We came to ask something of our host and they just shouted "what do you want?" and referred us on to other staff
- The bathroom stank of rotting vegetables from
the start to finish of our 4 night stay. The
maintenance put something down the drain that
helped a bit, but not much
- Locals congregate outside our room (Room 101, aptly) late at night and early in the morning and use all clean cups and coffee supplies and charging points. 1st night a bunch of women were chatting from 6 am onwards. 2nd night a bunch of kids were cooking on our porch until nearly midnight. 3rd night they were there at 1 am, making a lot of noise. Not one decent night if sleep was had, we were not well rested for one day of our trip.
- Bed is hard
- if you want hot water it will come out as a dribble
- Furniture worn and old
- Cleanliness in bathroom so/so. Mirror was so dirty I could bearly see myself
- Karl (8/5): Very good -
- Jan (8/5): Very good -
- Carmel (10/5): Exceptional - NongKwai is an exceptional place to stay. It is simply beautiful. This guesthouse is supberb. Ngoor our host was so helpful and an amazing person. So friendly and made us feel completely at home. I strongly ⁹recommend the Kamphan Guesthouse. Be sure to ask for riverview and balcony.
- Citlali (10/5): Great value and location - Very clean and spacious rooms. Includes towels, toothbrush, soap, toilet paper. Nice view of river, if you get a room with a view. Lovely owners and staff. They are very helpful. I stayed in 2 different rooms and there is a bad odor that emanates from the shower drain. But only after you shower. The solution is to just keep the bathroom door closed.
- Helmut (7/5): Nice, if you manage to get an upstairs room with a river view. - Room 204:
The room is nice and clean.
The balcony has a good river view. Close to the boat jetty and next to the restaurants. Room 104: Bad stink from the sewer in the bathroom.
What I didn't like at all is that there are 4 different categories of rooms but they all cost the same and you can't specify what room you want. So you are taking a gamble.
Unfortunately the mattress was of the usual spring type instead of foam.
The pillow was way too thick.
Only a thin blanket, despite the cold at night. I asked for additional blankets and got them but they were also paper thin.
The AC / Heating system only cooled but didn't warm the room.
The water in the shower was only lukewarm.
The balcony has no real partition, you see the people from the other 3 rooms if they are sitting outside.
Some bamboo or fabric as a separation would be great for more privacy.
- Lark (9/5): Gem @ Nong Khiaw - Really nice little guesthouse with fantastic views over the river. It's right near the bridge so the best place to sit on the balcony and watch the boats go up and down the river.
Would definitely stay here again, near to great restaurants and easy to book excursions. Nothing
- Letizia (9/5): Superb - Very friendly staff, Mama was a great host Little bit dirty but ok for Asian standards
- Kirsty (10/5): Exceptional -
- Oscar (9/5): Superb - Great location in the town centre.
The staff was great and helped us a lot.
- Shauna (10/5): Amazing View from the Balcony - I booked this place very last minute, mostly because it was in a convenient location. I had no idea that I would have such a beautiful view! The balcony was amazing! Plus the room was clean and comfortable, and it is in a very nice location. I would definitely stay here again.
- Ellen (9/5): Great location. Helpful owners. Beautiful view! - The view from the riverside room was breathtaking! Great value for money.
- Jake (10/5): Amazing and beautiful Homestay , great location - Everything was amazing! The best property and stay we have experienced in Laos. The Lovely lady who owns Khamphan helped us with everything we needed and the location was just perfect overlooking the river on the balcony. Nothing
- Geetika (8/5): Very good -
- David (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect location and amazing view in the river
Spacious room We were not happy with the pillows.
- Felix (10/5): great stay - lovely host, you get there everything you need (roller, washing service, breakfast, transfer to 4000 islands, night shop).
big recommendation
- Lyndell (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stewart (7/5): Good -
- Aron (10/5): Great View and Location - Great stay was over looknig the river, great location to the shops and restaurants, also easy to get to the view points Everything was great
- Ruta (8/5): Very good -
- Joe (9/5): Superb -
- Bryn (7/5): Know how much you are expecting to pay and have this in writing - The room was a nice size and had a great view with its own balcony overlooking the river. The A/C is located round a corner from the bed so doesn't work too well.
The owner didn't have our booking and then tried to charge us 30% more than the price on booking.com, we refused and only paid the correct price once we had showed the price on our booking confirmation. Even after showing the price the owner kept trying to haggle.
- Lea (8/5): Very good -
- Mol (9/5): Superb -
- Richard (9/5): Superb - Great view!
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional - Nice clean rooms with a beautiful view of the river. We booked this before and after an overnight hike and it was the perfect place to come back to to shower and relax.
- Olivia (9/5): Superb -
- Esme (8/5): Very good -
- Emma (8/5): Very good - Amazing view, good location Shower was low pressure
- Micheal (9/5): Superb -
- Paula (9/5): Superb -
- Stephanie (9/5): Superb - Great location with a nice view of the river and mountains.
- Renee (9/5): Superb - Great location with a beautiful view from the balcony. Close to restaurants and bars. Large comfortable bed in a spacious room with both A/C and a fan. Large bathroom with good shower. All very clean.
- Niamh (9/5): Excellent property. Very clean. - Comfy beds. Great balcony. They provide water, coffee, tea and toilet paper everyday. Nothing really, sometimes staff hard to find. But they own the shop over the road so we worked out just to pop in there.
- Pam (8/5): Great view of the Nam Ou river! - Room was nice. Beautiful view of the river and a nice patio outside the room. Really appreciated the coffee set up for the morning. :) Terrible smell in the bathroom. Guess it is the septic system and nothing they could do about it, but it was gagging!!
Also, we needed to be given a third towel to wipe up the floor after showering. The splash everywhere shower is to be expected but it leaves the bathroom floor, and toilet, ect very slippery. Need to mop up afterwards.
Hammocks outside the river view rooms would be really nice!
- Deborah (8/5): Very good - location was great and view was spectacular. Room was clean with air con and a fan. drainage in bathroom was slow and floor remained wet but was not a problem, just need to be aware as it was slippery. nothng
- Adrian (9/5): Spectacular view - if you get the right room! - The outstanding view from the upstairs rooms. Nothing short of spectacular! Balcony was excellent. Free tea & coffee (but no creamer). Hairdryer in the room. Room was a good size. Wi-fi was good. Location was good lots of restaurants and tour operators around or just over the bridge. Pillows were too firm and thick - couldn't use them - used the cusion instead. Had to go looking for staff who were normally in the shop over the road. Room not serviced in a 5 day stay.
- Sean (9/5): Superb - Friendly staff, perfect location, amazing view from bed, owner looked after our bags when we went camping too which was nice
- Patrick (7/5): Good location and clean, nothing more. - The hotel is in a great location, the bed is very big and comfortable as well. When we arrived the room was clean and had everything we needed. No one cleaned our room during our stay, it was also not very easy to locate the staff as there is no reception. Room isn’t soundproof and the water from the sink in the bathroom just goes straight to the floor which is definitely bizarre. The owner tried to invent an exchange rate for our payment which would make us pay more but after showing her the rate on google we managed to get closer to the actual USD to Kip exchange rate. It ended up being fine but it’s a bit dishonest.
- Aude (8/5): Good hotel for 1 or 2 night stays. It’s comfortable and convenient - Well located, very central. View on the river.
- Ben (9/5): Superb -
- Vishwanath (9/5): Great location and good value for money - Great location right in the center of town. River facing rooms. Good staff. They let me keep some perishables in their fridge. Coffee/Tea hot water/cold water available. Great value for money. Our room was not cleaned during our 3 nights stay. Shower water falls on toilet.
- Correna (9/5): Great location and clean room. - Location is great. The river facing rooms have a nice terrace and a good view. The room was clean. The bedding looked very clean. The terrace is kept really clean. The ladies who work there (owner?) are really friendly. They can be hard to find as there is no reception area but they own the convenience store over the road and are often there. The bathroom. The lack of plumbing U bends means that the bathroom has a strong smell of sewer all the time.
Like many bathrooms in Laos, it is a wet-room, which is fine but the water does not drain well so there is a constant puddle on the floor.
- Amy (7/5): Good - The location was great, very well centred in town with great views over the lake. Room was a good size. Quiet. The bathroom had a really nasty smell throughout our stay.
- Jan-eric (6/5): you should get a room with a river view! But you should not be dependent on the wifi - - My terrace was directly facing the river! It was very nice and you had a good view and could have worked well here if the wifi had been better
- Bed was comfortable
- Water jet from the shower was very good - Wifi was incredibly bad. I had never had such a bad experience before. Sometimes it just didn't work or you had to wait for ages. Then it kept breaking down.... It was also very unsafe!
- Ants in the bathroom (but that was still okay)
- No shower gel / shampoo
- Employee just comes into the room. unfortunately no privacy.
- Another couple had a booking confirmation from booking.com for a room... However, they had no room available for them. But it worked for me... I had to mention it here for the sake of completeness
- Isobel (10/5): Beautiful North Laos. - Location excellent.
Clean.
Big, spacious and comfy. Nothing
- Timo (8/5): Very good -
- Don (9/5): Community well worth going to, Information about local activities available in nearby booths. I s. - No breakfast
View of the mountains and surrounding area. Central for walking to restaurants and other locations Information about surrounding areas e.g. a map
- Krissy (10/5): Nice room very central - Amazing big room right in the centre of nong khiaw, basically underneath the bridge so right within a stones throw of everything!
- Chrissir (7/5): Ok as a base for NK - Clean & comfortable base for Nong Khiaw, efficient AC & fan, good wifi
Location fairly central to restaurants & convenience stores near the bridge - restaurants fill up quickly so head out early (before 7pm)
Mama Tia's breakfast is amazing and they kindly made takeout pancakes for me when I was ill, Couleur Cafe was ok and had lots of pastries
Bcel ATM in the town, but use as a backup/emergency incase it's empty - would recommend withdrawing cash in LP before arriving
We booked a 1 day boat & hike trip with Nong Khiaw World Tour (Tony), good value (payment cash only) and the river journey alone to Muang Ngoy is just breathtaking No drinking cold drinking water available - just hot water & coffee, no tea
Sink/ hand basin not plumbed in, it empties out onto the bathroom floor...it's not habit or normal for Westerners to wear flip flops in the bathroom, so don't get caught out with your socks on!
Virtually no staff on site, except for a lady who runs a shop on the opposite side of the road who follows you in for check-in
We requested if possible, a room with the mountain & river view and specified not to overlook the carpark, a photo was sent to show the upper level river view room....guess where our room was? We had a mountain view alright...of the many many Beerlaos crates on the property! It's an inconvenience to move rooms after 1 night
- Hinako (8/5): Great location. - Great location and a lovely terrace that overlooks the river. Has everything you need in a room. There was quite an overwhelming smell coming from the bathroom drain that was really off putting.
There also wasn’t any staff that spoke english, which is fine, but just something to be aware of.
- Nicoletta (2/5): No hot water, ghost staff, avoid. - - Good location
- bedsheets were clean
- low price - NO HOT WATER at all.
- We were in room 101 and the smell from the bathroom was very bad and very strong.
- No reception or staff available (a woman gave us the keys at check-in time - when the bus from Luang Prabang arrived - and then we didn't see her or anybody from the Guesthouse anymore).
- We also contacted the property through Booking.com messages, but nobody replied to us. No communication at all (they replied with a useless short message after the check-out time). If there is an issue, you are on your own.
- WiFi doesn't work.
- It rained all night long and the room was very humid (we were there in January, outside there were about 14 Celsius degrees during the night).
- This is more personal preference, but the pillow for me was very tall and hard, I slept very badly and woke up with a terribly stiff neck.
We stayed one night and then we left before the scheduled departure date (and of course nobody even realised that we checked-out).
- Selena-rose (9/5): Superb -
- Hmoobtsaablady (6/5): Might look elsewhere next time. - Location. Paid more than I was suppose to. And ended up with a room that wasn't mine.
- Seonghee (9/5): Get a room with a view! - Nice view! You should get a room with a view. Only that room is worthy. I booked 3 nights before going to Nong Khiaw, but end up extending 2 more nights. I was just relaxed looking over the river and mountains. Some people complained they didn't empty the trash bin, but remember it's not a 3 star hotel. I emptied the trash bin cause there was a common trash bin in the hallway. I was worried about the toilery, but they gave me new towels, toilet paper, and small water every other day. They were hanging on the door in a pink plastic bag. I appreciated it. It's not a fancy guest house, but good enough if you don't have a standard for hotels in big cities. The bathroom was not so clean. Mold on the shower.
I wish there were more table or drawers so that I could put my stuff on them.
- Dominick (9/5): Awesome location :) Good value - Comfortable and well worth the price. Central location, everything you need within walking distance. The people running the place are so kind and helpful.
- Rachel (9/5): Perfect spot to spend a few nights to unwind in Nong Khiaw - I really enjoyed my stay here so much that I came back after overnight camping and jungle trekking. If you’ve been in dorms for a while, this is a nice value for money break from them. Comfy bed, hot shower, towels, toiletries and water provided. The view from the river is a bonus but you’re not guaranteed it from all rooms. I found the staff very friendly. The location is also perfect for restaurants, tour operators and shops. The wifi would drop a lot but this is the norm in Nong Khiaw. I also wasn’t sure if the doors were locking properly.
- Maria (9/5): Superb - The view was breathtaking, good restaurants nearby. In general we liked it very much, the bathroom could use a make over but it was clean.
- Bruno (10/5): Perfect - Perfect location. WiFi works perfectly. Big room. Nothing to complain. We extended 3 more nights.
- Samuel (8/5): Very good - Comfortable bed + pillow
Good location near everything
Friendly Staff the sink in bathroom
- Gabriele (9/5): Friendly guesthouse in the “city” centre with a countryside view - Basic but sufficient room, balcony with river view, free tea/coffee, friendly staff, relatively quiet despite central location Had to ask for change of towels (which was then done immediately)
- Diana (9/5): Superb - Excellent location right near the bridge (which is central to everything). Good value for money. The shower water was not hot enough.
- Nicole (8/5): Very good - The place is very central, the room was spacious and clean with a really good view. Clean sheets and towels. The hot shower takes a little time but it works. I wish the room had a bit more welcoming atmosphere considering how much I paid it. It seems to not have a reception, or at least I didn’t find it so I had to wait a little but it was okay!
