Guest Reviews
- Henry (10/5): -
- Kaitlyn (10/5): Lovely stay, we have been here before and hope to come again - Cute cottage in beautiful surroundings within easy distance of other lovely places in Cornwall
- Otman (10/5): Wonderful stay in a rustic Cornish farm cottage - The property is on Bodmin Moor, access to it and other near by areas such as Tintagel and Boscastle were reasons why I chose it. I liked that all amenities were provided. An unexpected welcome bag was a nice touch too, it came with essentials for Cornwall (including scones and clotted cream) along with other goodies.
Mick and Janine also were in contact beforehand over email and phone, and sent over a useful e guide for the property and sites to see in the area. I can’t find a fault in my stay and the welcome I received.
- Kr (9/5): - Perfect location, so so pretty the wild animals were soo beautiful. Gorgeous bridge on the way there! So clean in the house. Welcoming and very friendly owner. If you want a quiet place this is perfect!
- Minette (5/5): - The cottage is in a central location for access to a variety of locations, but be prepared to drive at least 30 minutes to and from other locations.
The hosts were lovely and excellent at communication and service.
The cottage is quiet and offers a lovely view of the Moor. Sheep visiting at the window was lovely. We saw many animals on our daily drives in and out. The sleeping and sitting arrangements were not comfortable, with the bed and settees being quite dated.
The cottage is next to a cattle grid on a fairly busy farm road. Be prepared for some noise as traffic comes past.
Be aware that dogs are not allowed in the bedrooms.

- karen (10/5): We will be back!! - The quiet location with beautiful views of the moor and its wild horses
The accommodation was perfect ! Like home from home x Very dark outside the property, and with the amount of rain we had the ground was very slippery, so could have done with some sensor lights outside
- Tina (10/5): A complete off grid getaway on the Moor. - This cottage was amazing in all aspects. The location was absolutely stunning, the cottage had everything we could need & the hosts Janine & Mick were so helpful. N/A
- Harper (10/5): -
- Darryl (10/5): Fantastic cottage to get away from it all. - We stayed in the Old Brock cottage for five nights whilst exploring northern Cornwall. Clear instructions and a welcome pack were sent digitally prior to our arrival. Our hosts were there when we arrived and were really friendly and supplied us a little goody back on check-in which was really nice. The cottage itself was great - quite quirky but we liked that. Beds were comfy, shower was hot and property was clean. Although there are a few other cottages here, the place was really quiet and we felt like we had the place to ourselves. The location is right on Bodmin Moor so you really feel like you are getting away from it all. We did the carvery at The Old Inn down the road (booking advised) and not to far away from St. Mabyns Inn - both great pub meals. Overall, a fantastic choice of accommodation whilst visiting Cornwall and would visit again. The WiFi dropped on a couple of occasions but not a problem - in fact, it was nice not to sit there doom-scrolling so no complaints.
- Tina (10/5): Lovely Place Just to Switch Off From Everything - The cottage is lovely, the location is perfect if you want to get away from everything, loved looking out the living room window to see sheep, horses or cows! The cottage itself has everything you need for your stay and the hosts are welcoming especially with the lovely welcome pack of scones, jam and cream! Unfortunately we had to cut short our stay due to a family situation hopefully we will be able to come back again and stay here. Nothing to dislike
- Karen (10/5): We had a great holiday and the site of the cottage’s and location was very pretty! - Beautiful quiet location, dogs enjoyed walks on the moors! The bedroom was so nice with a window to look at the moors, bed was very comfortable and linen was lovely and fresh! A great base for visiting great locations! The welcome pack was very thoughtful! A nice bathroom with a good hot shower. The sofas were small and not comfy to relax in the evenings but everything else was perfect!
- Kristy (10/5): Fantastic view, cozy and comfortable. Very friendly helpful owners 😁 - We stayed in Ladydown Cottage and the Bodmin Moor view from the living room window was beautiful! Every morning we couldn’t wait to see what animals would be there to great us (the cows on our last day were my favourite). Nothing, we can’t wait to come back!
- Joanna (9/5): - Comfortable beds, nice bench to sit outside, good living/dining area, quiet location If you are planning on doing a lot of cooking, the kitchen is quite small for 4 people
- Nicole (5/5): Aufenthalt in einsamer Gegend - Das Häuschen liegt inmitten der Natur. Sehr ruhig. Schöne Umgebung. Tiere. Essen vorab einkaufen!
- Beverley (10/5): WonderfulPlace for relaxing brilliant hosts and definitely go back in the future. - I loved the location of the cottage and how we could see all the animals every day, the hosts mick and janine were wonderful, very accommodating and friendly had a nice chat to both of them on arrival and various times through the week. Got to visit a few different places in Cornwall while there. I’d say there was only two little things that wernt great was the cattle grid outside the main gate is loose and it’s very loud through the night with the traffic and the WiFi signal wasn’t that great in certain areas inside I had to go outside the cottage to get a decent signal to use the WiFi.
- alice (10/5): Wonderful holiday experience with friendly hosts - Amazing hosts- super friendly and went above and beyond. Left some goodies in the property for us and had toys for the kids!
- Jason (9/5): Superb -
- Maxine (8/5): Beautiful setting on the moor, good local pub,Clean and comfortable stay. - Well equipped ,beautiful setting, quiet cottage, with lots of lovely extra touches, very clean, fresh water, good storage, good parking,tv and Wi-Fi ,good local pub and friendly hosts Personal choice but the mattresses are memory foam, difficult to move on and very hot to sleep in,couches weren’t very comfortable and outside table, fences, patio area needs a bit of refurbishing/replacing.
- Andy (8/5): One of our best Cornwall weekends - Location was excellent, comfy bed everything very well thought out Nothing
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarah (10/5): Hosts were friendly, and helpful, lovely touch of an arrival gift.. - An absolutely perfect cottage, shop and pub not to far.. Nothing
- Jiamin (10/5): Best choice this time in England. - Traditional cottage style, high quality furnitures and bedding, comfortable. 10min walk to local pub. good country side walk on the moor. if I have to say something, dishwasher will be good for long time stay, but no problem for 2 or 3 nights.
- Jason (10/5): Very excellent - Everything Nothing
- Michaela (8/5): Very good - Bed and pillows were lovely
The old Brock, had an unusual interior which was a bit quirky (layout that is )
Nice to be able to go straight onto Bodmin Moor, particularly with a dog
Tranquil setting Nothing
- Robbie (9/5): Superb - Quiet, lovely property and with a gate onto Bodmin moor.
- Alan (10/5): Mike and his family were amazing very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. - I dont think they could have done anything better just 10 star
- Mary (8/5): Very good -
- Maya (10/5): A little part of paradise - Stunning location and a gorgeous view every morning. The cottage was equipped with everything we needed and it felt like a home from home. Wonderful owners who are always on hand if needed. Nothing.
- Rachel (9/5): Superb -
- Andrew (10/5): Excellent. Stunning cottage and beautiful surroundings. - The cottage is stunning, warm and cosy. The surrounding area is beautiful. The hosts were lovely and friendly.
The facilities were far better than I expected.
I would recommend this place to stay. I would definitely stay again.
- Kuzmina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sophie (9/5): The most perfect idyllic break on the moors. Accommodation was second to none and we’d love to come back. - Pretty much everything. Beautiful hamlet of cottages in a peaceful, rural setting. The layout, condition and cleanliness of the old barn was incredible, couldn’t have asked for more, we really felt like we were the first to ever use the cottage! It had such a warm and cosy feel. The cottage was stocked with everything you could ever need and the information provided by the hosts was s comprehensive and helpful. Hosts were super friendly and welcoming too. A perfect short break. Nothing to not like.
Really minor points were that we couldn’t reach the bathroom velux so maybe something to assist with that and the kettle needed a second boil to be hot enough but they didn’t deter from our perfect stay.
- Kate (10/5): Hallagenna Cottages are gorgeous and a fabulous place to stay in Cornwall - The amazing location, the cottages were gorgeous and so comfortable and clean. Our hosts were very helpful and friendly. The miniature pigs were an added bonus. The close location to the Old Inn. Nothing
- Anthony (10/5): Brilliant! - The cottage (Old Brock) was lovely, cosy, clean and quirky in the nicest way. It is in a perfect location to explore Bodmin Moor, the north Cornish Coast and particularly the Camel Trailway as the start is just down the road.
Mick and Janine are so welcoming, friendly and helpful and have created a little gem. The welcome pack waiting for us was much appreciated, especially the Cornish Cream Tea kit and biscuit's. We also enjoyed saying good morning to the pigs and pony.
The Old Inn in the St Breward village is a locals pub with a great atmosphere. The Sunday carvery is a must do, but you will need to book. We will definitely be coming back as soon as possible. Can' think of anything.
- Uwe (8/5): Very good - Everything was nice The moldy smell in the master bedroom
- Paul (10/5): A fab cottage on the moor. - We had excellent communication from Mick and Janine before arrival which built our confidence that we had a picked a great place to stay. They gave us a warm welcome upon arrival and the addition of a pack of goodies was lovely. The cottage was comfy, clean and well equipped. The location is convenient for visiting the area, especially the north coast. Bodmin Moor is literally outside the window so it was lovely to see the wildlife wandering around outside. Our dog loved her walks out on the moor (pack a pair of wellies). The local pub is a 10 - 15 mins walk away where good grub is served and the portions are enormous. We had a great time at the cottage and I'm sure we will return. Thank you Mick and Janine. Nothng, it was all fab.
- Alexandra (9/5): Comfortable, cosey cottage. - Lovely cosey cottage in beautiful countryside. Beautifully decorated. Friendly, helpful owners. Nothing about the property. It was a little difficult to find driving through very narrow lanes.
- Janet (10/5): Relaxing week in a great location. - Beautiful barn conversion right on the edge of the moor. Very private, quiet and well equipped. Mick and Janine are excellent hosts, on hand if you need them and happy to share their local knowledge to make the most of your holiday. Nothing
- Richard (10/5): We didn't want to leave... - The apartment was spotless on arrival and was like a home away from home. Super comfortable bed, fully equipped kitchen, wifi and TV with Netflix included. Farm animals on site for extra entertainment and outdoor seating for the evenings if you wish. The hosts were extremely helpful and friendly and welcomed us as soon as they had seen we had arrived. We also received a welcome pack on our arrival with some small essentials to help us get started on our holiday. Truly excellent. If I was really picky I could say the sofas were a tiny bit uncomfortable to relax on for long periods of time after a busy day but this was not a massive problem and is nothing to worry about when compared to the rest of the excellent property.
- Perri (10/5): Amazing x - Excellent location
Mick & Janine had thought of everything, to make our stay the best

- Auckland (10/5): A lovely place to stay. - The cottage was really lovely. It was great as our trip was to see family, and it was halfway between both. The owners were lovely and very helpful. We are looking at staying again in the future. There isn't anything we didn't like about it.
- Matt (10/5): Simply superb - The loveliest little cottage, where guests are guaranteed a warm welcome from Mick & Janine. Fabulous information pack provided in advance. Great facilities with everything you could need for a super self catering break come rain or shine. It would be nice to have a dedicated shower with a thermostatic mixer - the hot water can come through very hot and was a bit tricky to balance with the taps.
- Anjana (9/5): We enjoyed our stay!! Beautiful location - We enjoyed our stay!! Beautiful location
- Barry (10/5): My stay was peaceful, relaxing and welcoming, surrounded by beautiful scenery. - The location of Hallagenna cottages is perfectly located within the moorlands offering beautiful scenery in all directions. Upon arrival, the owners (Mick and Janine) were very friendly and welcoming. The cottage was very clean and well presented. The cottage was full of natural light with well positioned windows in each room and roof pivot windows in the kitchen and bathroom. The cottage contained a washing machine, microwave, iron, fridge and freezer. And for those chily evenings radiators in each room. My whole experience from the first minute to the last was relaxing and very peaceful. There was only one thing about my stay which I didn't like and that was having to leave!
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
- Bronja (9/5): A great break in the countryside - Very cosy, clean and comfortable.
Location was great

- Billy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stevejackson20 (8/5): Very good - Located on the edge of Bodmin Moor.
The sunsets were great.
Dark skies so I could see stars and the Milky Way (when there were no clouds). The mattress was too soft (personal taste)
WiFi did not work very well
- Ross (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dana (10/5): We had a great time! In the end we even saw the wild ponys!!! Thanks again to Mick and Janine! -
- Nikhil (10/5): Best place to stay in Bodmin Moors - Lovely cottage overlooking the Bodmin Moors.. great sunset from the window. Fun for kids.. my daughter loved feeding the pigs at the farm.
