Guest Reviews
- Adam (10/5): - Excellent location . Clean no hidden deposits.
- Darren (8/5): -
- Tim (2/5): This place should not be on a hospitality website. It is not fit for purpose. It could be fantastic. - Potentially it could be fabulous. Dirty, cobwebs, surrounded by untidy rubbish. Mouldy. Shower filthy and flooding back slimy filth from the plumbing.
- Sally (8/5): plenty of places to eat/ good walk along river / house close enough to town to walk in, all good. - made our own couldnt get electric stovetop to work - no manual
- hayley (5/5): If you like bugs and spiders this is the place for you! - Nice welcome basket. Milk and refreshments in fridge. The bed was clean as were kitchen items In desperate need of painting. Although the bed and kitchen facilities were clean other things were in desperate need of sweeping and moping there however was dead bugs on the floors in certain areas of the room many cobwebs and spiders everywhere. Terrible with guests arriving a good clean wouldn’t have gone amiss. Outside area nice little picnic bench with lovely overgrown grass and owners own rubble to the side of the house that
- Philip (2/5): Our stay in Brecon was spoilt due to the accommodation. - The location is run down, access to the "Bed sit" was via what looks like a builders yard, The accommodation was more like a bedsit , bed, table, small soft chairs, kitchenette, washing machine was in the same small room. Separate room with shower, toilet etc. The bathroom door caught on the floor and never shut . The water when showering didn't drain quickly and could overflow the tray. There was mould in the shower.
The window curtains were far too long and sat on the floor by 400mm, and when getting out of bed on the window side was trip hazard. If the folding bed was used, where the table/chairs would go would cause a safety problem.
Some necessary kitchen items missing, bread knife, scissors.
The garden view was badly overgrow, some covering the BBQ, and lounger that was left out.
The advertised "Terrace",was inaccessible , as being so badly overgrown that the gate wouldn't open fully. The garden and terrace hadn't had any work done for a long time.
- Sarah (6/5): - Great location , off street parking.
Welcome pack of edible goodies was a nice touch. Needs a good clean, shower didn't really work. Outside area could be lovely just needs a good tidy.
- Deborah (4/5): Very neglected. Partial refund required please - Lovely location & charming old building & courtyard at the back BUT…. •very dirty. Freezer & fridge unclean with old food in there. Shower caked in scum & mould
•shower unusable due to split hose on arrival. We bought & fitted new hose otherwise we would have had to leave. Also, shower drain very slow draining preventing adequate wash
•toilet seat gross
•cobwebs, spiders & woodlice everywhere
•garden neglected, brambles prevent use of secluded area which could be so lovely
•clearly other people’s comments have been disregarded
- Robert (7/5): Excellent location and comfortable, but a bit run down. - Excellent location with parking.
Comfortable bed.
Super welcome pack.
Decently equipped kitchen. All a bit tatty, especially the shower room.
The shower hose needs replacing, most of the water didn't make it to the shower head!
The little garden was very overgrown.
A lick of paint and a bit of maintenance and TLC would make this a much nicer place to stay.
- Mike (8/5): Very good -
- Richard (7/5): Pleasant accommodation with great potential. Completive price in area and great for a long stay - It was self catering however lots of food prep there for you. Bed was comfortable and loved the fact that there was consumables there for you. A self contained apartment with all the facilities provided, tv, washing machine, toaster etc etc. Great location as in centre of town. Parking available on site too. Easy to book. Was a bit dated and could do with a bit of modernisation and maintenance. Shower and WC room could do with upgrading and shower tray needs unblocking. Possible some cover on the windows as people walked past and could look straight in, however its probably a Listed building and prob not able to change that. The walk to the door was through a builders yard (it looked like), also no light by door and with steps possible trip hazard, a sensor light would solve that problem.
- West (6/5): A curate's egg - lots to commend it, but it needs an uplift and more thorough cleaning. - The location is very central and there is space for one car (although it's on a blind bend, so it's a tricky exit). The self catering accommodation, whilst small, has everything you'll need bar an oven (although it does have a microwave and hobs). There is also a washing machine; useful if you're a runner or walker. There are several supermarket options in the town which is just minutes away. The owner has clearly gone to some trouble to provide a hairdryer and even a clothes steamer. They also leave some staples like milk, etc to get you started. The room had been cleaned, but it's an old property that needs redecoration. Some of the corners had cobwebs and there was mould in the shower. There is clearly a problem with the plumbing and all the sinks and the shower drain very slowly. I had water coming back up into the shower when I ran the washing machine - I reported it to the owner before I left. I did stay over Easter, but the price is probably a little high for the current standard of the accommodation.
- Smith (7/5): Good -
- Amanda (8/5): One night and needed a room so it was OK.Just OK - Very conveniently located. It was quiet but close to the centre and a great place for a walking holiday. It had everything we needed but too much furniture in there made it feel like a store room.
Really nice touches like snacks and DIY breakfast provisions.
It felt a bit unloved -curtains really old and too long, kitchen units v old, mismatched furniture and really scruffy outside and in the yard next to the property It was fine. I don't think I'd have liked a whole week there as it was too crammed full of stuff. Could be better thought out.
- Cherry (1/5): We did not stay. Found alternative accommodation. - I am sorry to say but nothing The entrance via the gate was cluttered with building materials.
The back garden overgrown and unkept.
On enter the property it appeared that it had not been cleaned and the bed looked as if someone had just got out.
My husband and I decided that we could not stay in the property. We left and found other accommodation.
- Annette (5/5): Convenient but - Location and parking Quite rundown and noise from rest of the property
- Williams (8/5): Very good - Lovely location
- Rhys (10/5): Lovely stay here - Location was great Nothing
- Music (10/5): Exceptional -
- Charmaine (4/5): Disappointing - Was good location Property was infested with flies.should never have been let out like that!! I have been ill ever since!!!!
- Veneta (4/5): It sufficed for a night. - It had a bed, facilities and towels, milk, bottled water, munchies provided and the heating on. Windows were left open in the winter, heating was on though so it was warm. The tiled floor was cold to walk on. All facilities available but quite dated and probably could have done with a bit of TLC. The worst thing was as it was near the river which I’m sure is lovely in the summer, we had to kill about 20 flies from where the window was open and the toilet ones we left in there as we were tired.
- Karen (7/5): Good - Good location Nothing
- Zena (8/5): Very good -
- Darren (10/5): Very good, really enjoyed it - Everything was provided towels, shampoo, hair dryer, tea, coffee, milk, porridge etc , it was fantastic. Every was great
- Iwan (7/5): Good -
- Nigel (8/5): Very good -
- Charles (10/5): Superb! Would love to return and use again! - Accommodation had all the facilities you could need- including even a washing machine! Very cosy on what was a very rainy evening! Great location literally a couple of minutes walk from town centre- parking was also very easy in the local area including free car parks. Nothing springs to mind- perhaps the location of the entrance door could have been made a little bit clearer as it was not immediately obvious that it was behind the fence and round the corner! Tiny detail though and we worked it out quickly!
- Nayana (8/5): Very good - The location was very good, very scenic, the cottage was well stocked in anticipation of all of the guests needs. The outside area could be a bit cleaner, especially since the garden needs some maintenance.
- Steve (6/5): Well equipped apartment close to town - Central location, breakfast goodies provided, washing machine Mould around the washing machine. Over supply of sanitary products in show in bathroom. Backyard was very overrun and poorly looked after. Junk needed to be cleared away from yard.
- Linda (5/5): Basic accommodation in great location. - The location and breakfast supplies The bathroom and general clutter. Curtains are a trip hazard(as previously reviewed). I tripped and fell over onto the floor. Luckily no serious injury.
- Gilberto (10/5): Recommended! - Great location and very clean! Well stocked up with all
the essentials to make the stay very confortable! John & Yana we’re very accommodating!
- Nicola (5/5): Disappointed - Location Mess both outside (old washing machine etc) and inside. Lots of cobwebs . Owners were not welcoming "it's not ready, go away"
- Lorna (8/5): Self contained. - Had washing machine, microwave, small fridge freezer, big induction hob, everything to cook a meal if you wanted. Enough supplies for breakfast plus other treats like waffles, fruit loaf. Good location walking to canal basin, town and walk around river. Not a very good entry and garden very overgrown but I believe a "work in progress". A lot of stuff lying around.
- Ann (3/5): We needed to stay in Brecon town centre for just 1 evening - it was adequate for this. - There were a generous amount of 'tea time' treats (Bara brith, Welsh cakes etc) - as well as Breakfast items - left in the apartment - though a note about the milk and butter in the fridge and tea bags and coffee in the cupboard would have helped. Bed linen appeared clean. The apartment had a generally 'unkempt' feel. All parts would have benefitted from a good Spring clean. There were numerous bottles and packets in the bathroom - presumably left by previous customers- but they made the place look cluttered - and the impression that the room had not been suitable cleaned/presented. The door to the bathroom stuck and definitely need adjusting. It appeared that the sink had recently been replaced - but the paint had not been 'touched up'. There was too much furniture - making it difficult to move around - (This would have been more marked if the 3rd bed was being used. Curtains would have been better nearer the windows - in order to use the very wide window sills - even the T,V, was hidden behind a curtain, which had not been shortened to fit/hang properly. Labels on the recycling containers would be an asset. The information folder inside was out of date (linked to Covid regulations) and limited.....no map of the area, list of possible Things to Do/ nearest or suggested Take Aways or pubs/Restaurants/walks etc. Welsh themed decorations would have been appropriate, It was good to be able to sit outside (one of the initial attractions), but, although there were many herbs, the garden was overgrown AND untidy with DIY tools around. It being an 'ongoing project is understandable, but the site needs to be kept neat and tidy for Health and Safety - as well as to give a good/cared for impression to paying guests.
- Eryl (7/5): Good -
- Christina (2/5): Dirty, damp and unkempt - Nothing Everything. Firstly I didn’t receive any information about getting into the property and had to ring when we got there. Scruffy unkept exterior with trip hazards an unrolled hose pipe in the walkway. The entrance door and bathroom door were ill fitting with cracked plaster and difficult to open and shut. There were cobwebs and spiders everywhere. The bathroom had damp patches all over the ceiling and walls. The bed felt damp. Curtains so long dragging on the floor another trip hazard. Stained toilet and shower cubicle. Waste bin dirty lid. Didn’t return for the second night.
- Jamie (8/5): Very good - Nice location, and we were able to park outside, which was a bonus.
Bed was quite comfy, and although quite basic, it had everything we needed.
Good value. Nothing to really not like.
It's a no frills place, but I think it was good value.
- Simon (7/5): Fan Dance accomodation - Lots of nice thoughtful welcoming gifts
Good shower
Items to use
Bed The floor above very creaky with others walking at night
- Rhys (5/5): ok for a one night stop. hosts lived in same building but didnt see them at all. - location very good .Generous selection of food left but milk bread and tea bags would of been helpful. First impressions are bad very shabby outside and garden neglected.over priced.
- Linda (8/5): Straightforward accommodation, with some nice extra touches like the Welsh food specialities and relaxing outdoor space - Good location; fully equipped including laundry, toiletries, food provisions. Very comfortable bed. John was very amenable about putting on the heating this chilly June day. For a couple with a child it might be a bit small, but for us , wanting a straightforward , convenient location and accommodation, it was fine.
- Nina (2/5): If you like insects, this is the place to book. - We really appreciated the snacks that were left for us, we thought this was very thoughtful. The owners were very loud upstairs, feeling like they were moving furniture around at silly times at night/early morning plus lots of arguing. The room felt very damp and there were no covers on the quilts. The garden looked like a recycling centre and all the grass is over grown. All the windows are about 50 years over due a replacement. There were so many different species of insects even David Attenborough would have been impressed. There is a shower and lots of toiletries, which was a nice gesture, but it felt cleaner to not shower, and we were there for 3 days, with 2 of my family members begging to travel home.
- Julia (7/5): If you’re looking a great base with uncomplicated accommodation, this is perfect. - Great location, a short walk into town.
Clean accommodation and comfortable bed. Exceptionally generous supply of food provisions and use of toiletries. Parking for one vehicle but also a car park across the road free overnight (6pm - 8am). Helpful host. Room cold and accommodation a little tired, in need of some updating and maintenance. Overgrown garden. Quite a lot of noise from upstairs. With this said, all easily remedied with just a little investment and TLC.
- Martin (8/5): Quiet and secluded - Quiet and secluded with a very private outdoor patio garden. Very close to town centre. Parking on the premises. Very generous gift of foodstuffs from owners. Comfortable bed. Good hot shower with no problems. Kitchen adequate to cook a routine meal. Quite a small living space but fine for 2 or 3 nights. Outside area is a bit wild and overgrown- looked like renovations were going on.
- Martina (3/5): Anything but restful - The location is fine and very nice that some breakfast items were made available. It was not at all what I expected. Not really an apartment, rather a cold room under the main house. The owners live directly above and spent hours waking around and taking, with an old house the noise traveled to me, greatly amplified. Even when I pointed this out, no effort to make my stay more comfortable. Still clomping around at 12.45am!
- Sandra (9/5): Compact, comfortable and well equipped space in a great location with parking - This little place had everything. Although it was compact, we were delighted to find complimentary food and toiletries provided. This was the only place we stayed in 3 weeks that provided all necessary toiletries like shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. It also provided the comfiest bed! There was hardly room to place our bags and access to the adjacent river was impossible with the overgrown weeds. There is no way you could accommodate 3 people in this space, including your luggage.
- Geoff (7/5): Good -
- John (9/5): Superb - Good location, good communication
- Catherine (4/5): Disappointing - Location was central. The accommodation had been originally advertised as having a bedroom and living room but there was only one room.. The state of repair of the bathroom was poor.
- Dan (8/5): Perfect for what we needed - Very close to town , clean, and snacks, milk etc supplied
- Matt (8/5): Very good -
- Drew (10/5): Comfortable spot in great location - Great location. Good communication. Free parking. Comfortable enough and lovely selection of food (Welsh cakes, Easter egg, porridge, milk and orange juice etc) left out for us. Bathroom could use a bit of a spruce up but perfectly serviceable.
- Richard (8/5): Very good - Well appointed and brilliant location.
- Dowler (6/5): Pleasant -
- Courtney (10/5): Perfect Place to stay for Brecon! - The property was perfect for our Stay! We were visiting Brecon for a couple of days, to visit the waterfall walks and the town, and the owners of this place couldn’t have been more helpful and lovely!! It’s not a massive place but was comfortable for the three of us! There’s everything you could need, including some treats left for us! They helped us check in and made sure we had everything we needed and provided some recommendations to go for some food and walks!
The location was amazing! An easy two minute walk into town centre, I would 100% recommend this place to others as a great base to explore Brecon and the walks around!
- Marian (1/5): Bad - The owner was very friendly and there was exceptionally good provisions left Barabrith Blood Welsh cakes, fudge, tea, coffee, milk, porridge, cereal, honey, marmalade butter. The description was a bedroom with a double bed and a living room with a sofa bed. The property is one room with a bathroom. I would not have booked if I had known as we did not want to share a bedroom
- Owain (10/5): Very brief stay, cosy, great location, secure parking for motorbike - Excellent - Location
- Marta (9/5): Superb - We needed a warm bed after long hike and that's what we got. Town is lovely, room provided everything we needed. Bathroom would benefit from refurbishment but it wasn't really a problem for us.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
