- Elizabeth O (9/5): Cosy and beautiful Bloomfield - This is the second time we have stayed at Bloomfield Cottage. It was so peaceful and comfortable the first time and we really wanted to go back. The cottage is the childhood home of the famous Scottish author Lewis Grassic Gibbon and it really is so idyllic and so peaceful set in amongst rural farmland. There is lots to see around the area with Stonehaven and Dunnottar Castle both being close enough to visit as well as St Cyrus Nature Reserve. A place we have seen dolphins swimming not far from the shore edge on a summer evening…really stunning. The cottage can feel a little cool in the evening but the heaters are quick to warm up and all’s good. Overall very comfortable and highly recommended! Having to leave this morning!
- Erika (10/5): We had a lovely stay as a family of 5. - Property is in a quiet location which was great for us.
Great for kids
House is maybe a little dated but offers everything you should require during a stay.
Hosts were lovely.
- Megan (9/5): - A lovely remote spot, with everything we needed. We were staying over Christmas to be near relatives, and Dorothy's grandchildren had decorated the house beautifully for us! The children were so excited! The lovely wooden floors can be very slippery, so take slippers or sticky socks. The Internet was a bit hit and miss, but it is in the middle of no where!
- Fiona (10/5): Beautiful and peaceful just the relaxing location and holiday we needed. - Cottage was cosy and comfortable and bedrooms were a good size. Hosts were very friendly and on hand if you needed anything. Location was peaceful and in the middle of farmland, my Grandson enjoyed watching the sheep every morning. Shower in the bathroom could do with being updated as it wasn't very powerful and the little front garden could do with a gate to keep children a bit more secure.
- Billy McLean (3/5): Very dated property. - Location Not clean. Bedding smelled of damp and mould.
- Adeel (9/5): Tranquil Farm Vibes, Lovely Host, and Unforgettable Family Moments - We met the host upon arrival, and she was absolutely wonderful. She made us feel welcome and ensured we were aware of everything we needed during our stay. All amenities were available, and everything was well-prepared.
Traveling with the kids was a joy — they loved experiencing the countryside, especially seeing sheep and cows nearby. The gentle hum of tractors in the background added to the charm and made the stay feel truly peaceful.
We’re already planning our visit for next year! One thing to note: the pictures on the site don’t quite do justice to how brilliant the area truly is. It’s far more beautiful and serene in person — a hidden gem.
- Merike (9/5): Lovely unexpectedly spacious cottage for our family of four. Beautiful views of the sea from garden. -
- AZZAN (10/5): A pleasant stay - One of the best cottages I have stayed at in Scotland. On top of everything is the owner. A very kind and welcoming lady. She lives next door and always there for help. The house is very clean and well organized. The location is in the middle of green fields with beautiful views in all directions. You get full privacy as it’s detached and facing the fields. The cottage has 2 bedrooms, one with double and single beds and the other with two single beds. Tye kitchen is well stocked with clean cooking equipment. Highly recommended. The internet connection was unstable and I mentioned it to the owner.
- Evelyn (7/5): Peaceful place - Peaceful and quiet, the cottage was handy to get to the places we wanted to see. Don't go by just the post code as other properties have the same post code.
- Hollings (10/5): Absolutely fantastic and very quiet no noise whatsoever - This place was equipped with everything that you could need for a great stay and we would definitely recommend and stay there again Wifi was a little hit and miss but we just had to get on with it we were in the middle of nowhere
- William (7/5): Good - Good location nice welcome very warm A bit out dated dusty needed to be more clean
- Binns (10/5): A perfect getaway - The scenery, the house is beautiful inside and out. The host was lovely and very helpful and welcoming. We were very happy, there wasn't anything we didn't like
- Helen (10/5): Lovely holiday home - My son and I really enjoyed our stay at Broomfield, it was so quiet and peaceful just what we needed. It had everything we needed and very comfortable beds.
I'm from Stonehaven originally and was ideal to meet up with friends and family, also to visit all my childhood haunts.
A lovely restful experience.
Thank-you There was nothing we didn't like, were very comfortable.
- Prelyn (9/5): We enjoyed our stay we will definitely come back. - Beautiful peaceful area. The property has everything we needed for our stay. Cotbed ready for our baby. Hosts are lovely. Shower curtain need changing it is so dirty
- Morna (9/5): Superb - Kids loved out playing in the fields so much fun
- Joanne (9/5): Cosy wee cottage - We thoroughly enjoyed how peaceful the location was and the views were spectacular. Reminded me of my childhood!
We loved how cosy the cottage was as we brought our 5 month old with us. We were worried in case wasn't warm enough - but was very cosy and spacious :) Just minor details really.. but there was a few dusty areas and would have been nice to be able to open the windows in the living space as got a bit stuffy. We were able to open the door into the porch which was just as good.
- Jens (9/5): Superb - The cottage was very cozy und fully equipped. We got a lovely welcome and introduction and enjoyed the stay very much.
A complete recommodation from us.
- June (9/5): Great location to travel out from and good hosts. - Location was great for exploring Kitchen cooker rings very slow to heat and not very powerful
- Andrew (9/5): We loved it! -
- Tomas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (10/5): Lovely relaxing getaway - Everything from the location to the fantastic owners. Such a cosy place.
- Elaine (9/5): Lovely place - Friendly, no bother, nice place, very airy and bright. had to collect keys from house out front which wasn't entirely clear but not too hard to work out, no cleaning materials which was a little frustrating but not exactly a biggie either.
- Gavin (10/5): Welcoming and tranquil stay. - The host was very welcoming and helpful both before and during our stay. We will certainly be returning in future.
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent hosts, location, and cleanliness. The perfect place to leave your travels behind for a while. Great location for exploring the east coast and returning to such a comfortable and well kept place to lay your head is just the icing on the cake.
If they'll have us back, I'd book again, no question about it. Totally out of their control but make sure you stock up with provisions before, although there is a medium-sized Tesco around 10 miles away.
- John (10/5): Exceptional - Isolated location
- Maria (1/5): Bad - The property itself quality price was fine. The property was not cleaned for ages, bless the owner, nice lady but she needs to hire a cleaner because it was lots of dust and a heavy smell.Bathroom was superficial cleaned ,lots of dirt found.
Not recommended!
- Jason (9/5): Superb - Beautiful location, so peaceful and absolutely silent.
- Ada (10/5): Absolutely brilliant place, can't recommend it highly enough! -
- Lesley (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely location with lovely accommodation and very friendly hosts We we're made very welcome with the hosts leaving us homemade cake and biscuits as a welcoming treat Nothing only that we couldn't stay longer in such a beautiful location.
- Rebekah (8/5): Quiet location with very friendly hosts - The property is situated in a lovely quiet area, yet within easy reach of the A90 and A92. The hosts were very friendly and couldn't have done more to help us. They live just across the courtyard so it is very convenient. Being on one floor was very handy for my elderly father. Lots of games and jigsaws too. We loved the fact we were staying in the very home of Lewis Grassic Gibbon and there is plenty of information in the cottage about the author and the house's history. Perhaps clearer instructions on how to obtain the key when we arrived. It wasn't a problem as I just went to knock on their door, but for peace of mind beforehand that information would have been helpful. Very minor point though.
- Anna (8/5): Very good - Great location. Well equipped, all you need. comfortable beds.
- Douglas (7/5): Good -
