Guest Reviews
- Oliver (9/5): - Lovely pub, accommodation and setting. The pizzas were very good on Wednesday night! No breakfast was supplied on my first morning.
- Claire Lou (6/5): Nice part of the world, but poor value - The bed was super comfy and the bar staff were friendly I rarely bother to write a review but our room (which was called the Hare), was right next to the room for staff staying overnight. Unfortunately the walls were paper thin and we could hear everything the staff member using it, said and did until he turned the TV off at midnight.
The room was much smaller than expected for the steepish price and there was a bulb missing in one of the lamps.
Also, the meal we had on the first night was poor. The peas were cooked to within an inch of their life and the Cod I ordered must have been on hunger strike. My partner had a meat pie which the chef hadn't even bothered to take out of its aluminium tin before serving it. Please at least try to make it look home cooked.
- Wildin (9/5): -
- Richard (8/5): - Location , food and friendly staff
- Pam (4/5): - It was a clean room but the windows do not open We did not expect live rock music on arrival til late. Breakfast supplies were put in our room which was fine on Saturday morning but we had to ask on Saturday night for our breakfast supplies for Sunday.
- Samantha (7/5): -
- Jenny (8/5): -
- Steve (10/5): Top Service and lovely Room Perfect Stay - I arrived very late and they left clear instructions and notes to get in and to my room. They left little notes everywhere made me smile. It's was a great surprise that what people say they are going to do they do right! Not always the case nowadays. They went above and beyond foe me would stay here every time I go back. More hotels could learn from them. Perfect. Nothing it was perfect.
- Jack (9/5): -
- Kenneth (8/5): - Our room, situated in a block behind the pub, was spacious, clean, quiet, and comfortable. It had a nice view out the back.
Staff were friendly and helpful. There was a WiFi repeater, mounted on the ceiling, near to the bed which emitted a bright blue light. While this meant the WiFi signal was excellent it effectively meant one was sleeping with a nightlight on. It would, in our opinion, be better if the router was reconfigured with the light off.
Lack of a shelf in the shower cubicle on which to place the shower gel etc.
Lack of hook on the bathroom door to hang ones dressing gown on.
- Claire (10/5): Proper gem of a place . - Steve was brilliant when he found out that we were bringing our dog and I hadn't booked a dog friendly room. Altered our booking immediately . Very friendly .
Was worried room wasn't going to be as nice as the one I originally booked but the woodland rooms were great and patio doors led straight out onto the grounds so easy access for our dog .
The breakfast packages were great as we were just told we couldn't get breakfast in the pub.
Croissants , jam, fruit , cereal and fresh juice and milk for the fridge . Nothing
- Sallie (9/5): Amazing ata with a lovely landlord who went the extra mile - The staff were amazing and accommodate me and the dogs really well, even extending our stay for us.
Very hospitable and was more of an friend than staff Opening door out of the room to garden, needs step under as long drop

- Hannah (8/5): Lovely cosy pub - Amazing friendly staff. Pub was great. Room was lovely and spacious. Very comfy bed. Continental breakfast offered. 2 mins from wedding venue. They weren’t able to offer a cooked breakfast as advertised. The facilities could be slightly better like shampoo and conditioner. Small attention to detail missed.
- Marie (7/5): Continent stay - Very nice large room. Perfect location for attending Easton grange wedding venue Room was dusty in places. No shower gel in bathroom. Only cold breakfast included in room price.
Felt expensive for what it was.
- robert (7/5): A good locetion for me with very helpful staff. My second stay there. - Disappointed by the fact thatI couldn’t get a proper breakfast, but the pack of 2croissants, an apple and 2 bottles of orange juice kept me going! Although the woodland room heating kept the room at a satisfactory level I was concerned that there was only one this duvet on the bed. However, the staff reacted immediately and effectively by bringing me 3 additional blankets for which I was very grateful.A
- Beales (6/5): Beautiful atmosphere but food was a let down - The property was absolutely beautiful. The pub was lovely and our room was very nice. The atmosphere was beautiful. My favourite part of the stay was hearing an owl outside of our room in the night, I am used to living in Ipswich town centre so that was absolutely priceless for me. It was advertised that breakfast was included in the stay, I had a email confirming a cooked breakfast was part of the price. Then the information sheet in our room stated a cooked breakfast would cost us extra which we were happy to pay and then we went down for breakfast at 9am with no option of a cooked breakfast so I feel like £160 for a room with cereal and orange juice included wasn’t great.
We also dined in the pub for our dinner and the atmosphere was lovely and from what I gathered the food was nice but I was up for hours though the night with food poisoning, so don’t order the salmon!
- Carol (9/5): Enjoyed our overnight stay , comfy spacious room in the woodland building in the grounds . Very welcoming and friendly s - Lovely, cosy and welcoming Nil
- Lisa (9/5): - Very comfortable We booked an early check in the week before. 1 room was ready, the second one wasn't which was a bit disappointing
- Cheryl (9/5): Really good Inn - Good deco and very helpful staff A bit noisy at times in the bedroom above the bar. The rooms at the back are quieter
- Natalie (7/5): Nice but could do with some improvements - Lovely pub and rooms were clean and tidy and modern We booked a room with 4 people and only had 2 towels so had to share, we also were told the week before when we rung to pay for the rooms that you get a continental breakfast included and if wanted hot breakfast it would be additional £10, however when we came down in the morning ( Saturday) we were told they weren’t doing hot breakfast which we were quite frustrated by as no one told us when we checked in the day before hot breakfast wouldn’t be available and had we of known we wouldn’t have waited till 9am-10am for breakfast that they weren’t doing ( other than a croissant and toast) and would have found somewhere to go.
Staff also didn’t seem very pleased to be there in the morning to be Honest and when we ordered toast we were offered white of brown ( which we ordered a selection of) and were only brought out brown! - nice rooms and good location to the wedding we were going to but would recommend looking elsewhere for breakfast if you want a proper one. Left a bit of a negative impression on as as we were leaving!
- Nathan (10/5): -
- Inelza (8/5): -
- Joe (6/5): Good pub - The staff were super friendly and very accommodating. I did not get put in the room advertised on the website. I was allocated a room which turned out to be a converted wagon with no blinds and no reachable WiFi. This being said, it was clean and had decent amenities.
- Jo (8/5): Lovely country pub with beautiful rooms - Lovely decor and toiletries. ( Noble Isle are my favourite) The breakfast was good too It was all good
- Suze (6/5): Pleasant - Very clean and quiet The outside lights were on all night very annoying hence not full marks
- Lucy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amy (1/5): Bad -
- Daniel (9/5): Superb -
- Ian (7/5): Ok - Location, for what we needed, was good. The lunchtime food choice was very limited. The breakfast was not great, the toast was rock hard and the scrambled eggs were very runny.
- Alice (9/5): Excellent pub and place to stay - Very comfortable beds and lovely room. Super friendly staff. Nothing to dislike.
- Bradley (7/5): Pleasant - Breakfast was really tasty and good to be included in the price. In a quiet area, good range of food and drink. Would have preferred a woodland room, we stayed as we were attending a wedding but there is no local taxi firms so it ended up costing more than staying somewhere else.
- Emily (10/5): Would recommend - Accommodation was beautifully designed and very quiet The floor was a little bit dirty
- Felicity (8/5): Would stay here again if in the area and hope the breakfast improves. - The room was clean and comfortable. A fan was also provided which helped on the very hot night. We had a 40 minute wait for breakfast and when it came the toast was cold and dry.The bacon was dried out and my husbands poached eggs were hard.in all fairness we did not complain as we had already waited so long and had to be on our way! Not sure what was going on in the kitchen but felt sorry for the girl on duty who was having to take the flack from some of customers for waiting so long!
- Georgia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christian (8/5): Very good -
- Tony (10/5): Exceptional -
- Keith (7/5): Most enjoyable stay - Good breakfast very slow & inefficient first morning, 2nd morning excellent Toasted soda bread at breakfast was virtually un- edible as it was rock hard, cooked breakfast very good!
- Lowe (2/5): Very poor - Staff pleasant Damp bedclothes, we were put in a "chalet" at the back of pub. Difficult walk for someone with walking problems. No hot water. Only 1 member staff at pub in day. 20 minutes to get a cup of tea in the morning. Didn't have time to wait 30 minutes for breakfast to be cooked.
- Jack (8/5): Very good -
- Anne (5/5): Passable - Location Paper thin walls and wasn’t the luxury room we were expecting!
- Ciaran (9/5): Superb -
- D (8/5): Very good - Great little pub with a nice atmosphere and good food. Garden rooms are great if you are traveling with a dog, if not go for one of the indoor rooms.
- Chloe (8/5): Very good -
- Claire (8/5): Very good -
- Robert (8/5): Very happy -
- Roma (8/5): Had a good nights sleep - Lovely room Only pizzas for supper
- Rebecca (9/5): A wonderful evening and morning - Really liked the decor of the whole place, the bathrooms were really lovely. The bed was really comfy, the view from outside of the room was gorgeous! All of the staff were friendly and lovely, especially Sue. The food was great, was so pleased they had vegan options. The outside space leading towards the cabins could do with some more lights along the path but apart from that nothing!
- Kmiecik (5/5): Passable - Lovely setting I'd rather not say in case we need to stay there again! Basic.
- Tom (9/5): Superb -
- Jeremy (9/5): Lovely overnight stay with the family. - Really lovely for families - kids bedroom separated off, really accommodating with food, and great outdoor space. Great value for the area. Nothing - it was great.
- Jack (10/5): A great experience, throughly enjoyable - Excellent facilities and very professional polite and friendly staff. We were made to feel very welcome, the food was excellent, a great choice on the menu. The chalets at the back of the property were newly modernised and overlooking the beautiful grounds at the back of the property.
- Johnson (8/5): Very nicely decorated and maintained b&b style location in a beautiful local pub with friendly staff - Tasty breakfast, good ingredients, served quickly. Friendly staff, a well turned out, clean and comfortable room. Lovely location in the Suffolk countryside. WiFi was a bit spotty, parking was tight on Friday night, I couldn’t work out how to operate the heating so it was a bit chilly at night.
- Nicolas (9/5): Superb -
- Jayne (9/5): Superb -
- Victoria (7/5): Quiet escape - Spacious room. Was great to have the separate room and twin beds for the teenagers (rather than pull out sofas) Extremely quiet, at times we were the only people there! (Ok it was early January so I guess all pubs are quiet that time of year). Bathroom in room could have been cleaner (toothpaste marks).
- Gemma (9/5): Nice short break in a lovely spot. - Great family room with a separate kids bedroom. Super friendly staff. Breakfast was a little late
- Matthews (8/5): Very good - The staff were very welcoming and helpful . The food was great ,a good old fashioned pub .It is in a quiet location. Our room was a fair size and had the essentials we needed for our two day stay The bed was very comfortable as we had a good night's sleep Needed a light clean as there were cobwebs in the corner s but nothing too major. A box of tissues could have been handy in the room .
- Ranjith (7/5): Great location and stay - terrible breakfast - Greta location and surroundings
Dinner was good but expensive Terrible breakfast
- Charlie (8/5): Very good -
- Paul (9/5): Nice cosy Winter stay - the Inn was dressed for autumn\Halloween
- Alison (5/5): Passable - Comfy bed and our small dog was made welcome. Excellent evening pub meal and breakfast. No toilet roll and only one bath towel in the room... but was resolved in the morning. Did expect basics to have been checked for the price.
- Chris (8/5): Nice spot for a quiet break in the country. - Very clean, quiet country location, very comfortable bed, helpful and friendly staff. Good for dog owners .
- Keith (9/5): Countryside retreat - We stayed in the woodlands room
Very quiet and charming. The pub was a short 50-yard walk and had a relaxed atmosphere
Breakfast was good
The staff we met were very pleasant and helpful Nothing really
- Jennifer (9/5): Superb - The room was beautiful and the staff were friendly. The vegan breakfast was delicious.
- Rupert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Oskan (2/5): Very poor - The bed settee was broken and the replacement airbed deflated over night
- Sarah (9/5): Superb -
- Timothy (5/5): Passable -
- Ian (5/5): A game of two halves - When we were moved to a better room things improved The cold ‘Woodland’ room with flooding shower
- Marilena (9/5): Superb -
- Michelle (10/5): Great stay. - Very accomodating staff. Two requests that were immediately sorted. Nothing
- Frank (7/5): Comfortable stay and breakfast was delicious - Secluded, quiet and peaceful Too out of the way
- Jeremy (9/5): Love it !!! - I really enjoyed walking into such a lovely space! Wood burning stoves, lovely wood tables and a beautiful inside!!! The staff were really, really lovely! I really liked the slate on the table where me and my friends had a really good dinner. "Higginson's 3" My room was cold, but when we sat down for evening meal, a really supportive assistant told me that she had put the bathroom heater on and hopefully that would heat the room, with the bathroom door open. My question is, why didn't the electric heater in the bedroom work? One negative is not going to make me complain! I loved my stay, and breakfast this morning with my friend was lovely. So good for the lovely lady who served our breakfast to know that it had been ordered and paid for the night before. Only problem whilst eating breakfast, it was cold, and I know that we were one of two small groups having breakfast, you could have made it warmer?!
- Lisa (8/5): Very good - We had a wedding to go to at Easton Grange so Chequers was very convenient 2 mins in the car. There was nothing we did not like :-) it was as expected for a pub stay :-)
- Helen (4/5): Disappointing -
- Susan (7/5): Good -
- Deborahjf (4/5): The poor attitude and inflexibility spoils what could be a great place to stay. - The junior staff were very helpful. The manager seemed disinterested. We were made to wait over and hour to get access to our room for no good reason we could see. 4pm checkin is quite late.
The breakfast was only served between 9.00 and 10.00. And we had to check out by 10.00. All a bit inflexible.
We ordered a pizza in the restaurant which was served in a box. We had to ask for a plate.
- Mario (8/5): A lovely spot and very comfortable. - The Chequers exceeded expectations. The rooms, in an outbuilding, are very new, spacious and clean with all the mod-cons you could want. Lovely view out to woodland and of course all the facilities of the pub are right at hand. No phone reception! Damn shame. But at least there's free Wi-Fi.
- Elaine (7/5): Spacious room. - The staff. Everything was fine.
- Michelle (8/5): Great stay but vegetarian food could be better. - The area, the dog friendly rooms. The pizzeria. The bed were a bit on the small side.
The food in the evening was very par considering how lovely the place is. The mezze was not good quality, the foccacia was crispy and stale, the tzaziki runny and tasteless The vegetarian burger dish was sad, served with cold oily ftrmc fries from a packet. It was not great.
The cocktails were good.
- Beverley (1/5): Initially good but then extremely disappointing and upsetting - The breakfast and the room were fine When we came back to the property on Sunday evening we were informed that there would be no staff overnight and we (2 elderly women and one elderly man who has advanced Alzheimers) would be alone in the building which is situated in a fairly isolated spot. We were told that there was an emergency number in our rooms but there was no such number (the barmaid looked for it and couldn't find it) and anyway we couldn't get a signal on our mobiles. We were horrified to hear this and did not feel able to stay the night; we were then obliged to travel home to Essex as darkness fell having had no dinner and missing the band that we had come to hear at the Folk East festival. The staff told us that we had been sent an email which informed us of this situation but I've just checked and there is nothing in the emails I received to suggest we'd be alone in the building all night (if we'd known we certainly wouldn't have booked this accommodation) The money has been taken from my account for the 2 nights but I want a refund for the Sunday night as our decision not to stay seems to be to be completely justified by the situation with which we were presented without warning.
- Nicholas (8/5): Very good - The ambiance and service were good. Proximity to the road
- Frances (10/5): Lovely stay in a beautiful location - Lovely decor, attentive staff and excellent food Nothing, it was perfect
- Lee (8/5): Very good -
- Valerie (1/5): Pub/Restaurant closed on a Monday but happy to take guests. Solo accomodation guest. Very unhappy! - Unfortunately.. Nothing Everything - I arrived following a booking.com message to say key had been left on an outside bar windowcill. Pub/restaurant closed so no staff on arrival. Wifi is password protected and no information in room. Had to sit in car to make phone call or email, however couldn't receive emails. Booked in a easyhotel for £50 and stayed there. Request for refund ignored. Wardrobe drawer had a used pair of womens underwear in.
- Coretta (10/5): Lovely place - Really nice stay. As I needed to leave early in the morning, they even made me breakfast the night before and installed a fridge in the room. very kind staff and great food.
- Natasha (9/5): Superb -
- Carly (9/5): Superb -
- Robin (7/5): For how stunning the place is, it is a shame that a few basics let it down. However these can easily be rectified. - Lovely location with large pub / dining areas. Staff very welcoming & knowledgeable. Stunning refurbishment. I had placed my travel bag on top of the wardrobe but when I lifted it up to pack it was covered in dust. Floors were also dusty. Unfortunately my breakfast poached eggs were served cold.
- Andrew (8/5): Very good -
- Denise (6/5): Passing through - Pleasant room and comfortable. Was only told that property was not manned on a Monday night after we had booked and payment was non refundable. We were the only people staying in the property and all communication was done via booking.cim message facility. He was however very helpful providing details of places to eat nearby. Felt it was very expensive for the one night as no interaction with anyone and breakfast was not included in the price. We stayed a further 2 nights elsewhere and paid only a bit more and breakfast was included. Still maybe I should have done more research but it was a last minute booking.
- Lee (8/5): Very good - Separate second bedroom for the kids For the price would have expected breakfast even if just some croissants, juice and fruit as understand the kitchen is not always open. Maybe a future improvement.
- Elizabeth (9/5): Lovely hotel pub in Suffolk - Very convenient for our wedding we we’re attending Nothing
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Valerie (10/5): Great place to stay for a night longer, everything on tap including wifi. - Beautiful location with plenty of wildlife on view from our woodland room. Meals were very good and staff were really friendly and helpful. Mobile signal is poor in the general area but there is free wifi which is a bonus
- Mark (9/5): Will be back -
- Mike (10/5): Fantastic place for a family to stay. We loved everything about it. -
- James (8/5): Perfect rural location for a short break - Clean and tidy. Perfect for us as we were looking for somewhere close to the golf course where we were booked to play.
Nice pub meal. The weather lol
