Guest Reviews
- Sonia (8/5): Good homestay - The place was nicely located towards Waerebo. It is newly built, but there was no electricity, besides during 18-22 due to the finalization of the construction. The room was simple but good. The host had also put a mosquito net over the bed since you want to keep the room open to get it cool. A very nice gesture we appreciated.
We arrived quite late and there were no restaurants open, but we bought some noodles that they helped us to warm up.
Breakfast was very good, noodles, egg and veggies and coffe and tea of course. The host offered us to book a local guide to guide us to Waerebo. He said that it was a shorter ride to go with the scooter, only 7km compared to the other one that is mapped on Google Maps (45 min drive). However, the ride took way longer than expected (around 50 minutes) and the road was so bad at the end with big sharp stones that it broke our scooter.
The hike itself was good, but took 2.5 h for us there and was very steep with not so good path so our legs got quite destroyed. In hindsight it would have been better to go on the regular path and save time and money both for the guide and to repair the scooter.
- Rick (8/5): - Ruime kamers Eigenaar rookt binnen, veel huisdieren en koude douche
Achtung, hier gibt kein Internet und kein Strom. Strom startet um 18 Uhr bis 22 Uhr. Ansonsten, ist die lage sehr schön 👍😊
- kaameswaran (10/5): A BLAST TO THE PAST. ABSOLUTELY EPIC ADVENTURE. - This is an amazing place to stay, as long as you know what you are coming for.
If you are riding in from Pantai Dintor, Ruteng, or Bajawa, leave early. The road is brutal in parts and the last 25 km alone can take almost 2 hours. It is slow, rough, and demanding. On the other hand, riding from Labuan Bajo is much easier and more relaxed.
The homestay is located in a very isolated community. There is no electricity from the grid. They rely on batteries and solar, so there is no fan or air conditioning. Nights are simple and quiet, and that is part of the charm.
The room standard for two people is simple, clean, and nice. Nothing fancy, but comfortable enough. The toilet is outside the house, which is very normal for this area, so just be aware.
What really makes this place special is the people. The families around the area are incredibly friendly. You will easily be invited into their homes and welcomed like a guest, not a tourist. The hosts who run the property are also super warm and helpful.
The rice fields are absolutely incredible and the views are epic. Waking up here feels raw, peaceful, and very real.
Important note: bring your own food, snacks, and plenty of water. They do sell beer for around 50k and coffee for about 10k, but if you want comfort food or specific drinks, bring them with you.
Overall, this was an amazing stay. Remote, authentic, beautiful, and unforgettable. Highly recommended for riders and travelers who want a true off the beaten path experience and are comfortable with simple living.
- Akram (10/5): -
- Leonardo (9/5): -
- Jakob (9/5): - Alo is a very friendly host. His brother John is an amazing tourguide who took us to the Wae Rebo village on a side track through the jungle. We got invited into his house for dinner and we spend a really nice evening with karaoke in the nearby bar- great two days!
- Marc (10/5): - We had a wonderful stay at this homestay. The host was incredibly friendly and spoke excellent English, which made communication so easy. He was extremely helpful and even arranged a guide for us to visit Wae Rebo. We were warmly welcomed there, and it turned into an unforgettable experience.
- Mireia (10/5): Si eres de pocas infraestructuras y necesidades. Vivir la urenticidad este es el lugar. Casi no tienen luz.
- corrado Cati (10/5): - This place is fantastic for a stay of at least 3 or 4 days. The sea is very close and there's a fantastic bar and restaurant right on the beach. The hostel managers are very kind and available to organize excursions and accompany you. The place is clean and has everything you need for both adventure and relaxation...highly recommended!
- Daniele (7/5): - The manager, John, and his boss were very helpful and welcoming. John led me to Wae Rebo village via a new path, which is much shorter than the route you find on Google Maps.
The views overlooking the sea are very nice. The facilities are very basic, does not feel cozy in any way. There is no furniture in the room and the bathroom is outside the house. It's still okay for a one-night stop on the way to Wae Rebo.
- Johan (10/5): Exceptional - I spend very good time in this house,
John was very kind, we ate, talked and played card together and this was awesome!
If you are looking for an authentic experience you are at the good place, it's beautiful and peaceful area.
- Christoffer (10/5): Exceptional - Hi had a great time with John. He was really friendly and invited me into his home for dinner.
I also went on a small hike with him and saw whole the farming process of hazelnuts. It was a really authentic tour and I can highly recommend it!!
- Jelke (10/5): Lovely homestay - Lovely owner that does anything to help you.
He showed us the village with Sunset and made a great diner.
Please be aware that the accomedation is very basic (there is no electricity during the day) and do not expect luxary. But do expect having a nice time, clean soft beds and a friendly owner. Roosters can make some noise early.
- Herman (8/5): Very good - The place looks great when you arrive.. Later you see half finished building. Not yet electricity in that area.. But the staff, family.. Are very welcome friendly and helpful.. Many opportunities there.. Hopefully it comes better soon.. Let's just see.
- Tristan (10/5): Our best night in Indonesia - The best hotel we had in Indonesia, mindblowing conveniances and rooms.
The host will do everything to meet your needs, thank you John
