Guest Reviews
- Kate (8/5): - Beautiful rustic accommodation with fantastic hosts. Amazing sea views from the bohemian bar area (that serves killer smoothies!). Lots of cool and tasty cafés and restaurants a short walk away. Wonderful location in an unspoiled corner of an island that is undergoing some chi-chi development elsewhere. I hope M'Pai Bay remains untouched by the modern world! Would love to return one day. Be aware there is no air-conditioning in this corner of the island because it doesn't have the necessary infrastructure. There was a ceiling fan in our room but be prepared to be hot!
- Roope (10/5): Best price/quality you can find for chill hostel! - Staff was awesome! <3 going to miss you guys. It was great for the price
- Graham (8/5): Good location - Good location. Bar across the dirt road. M'Pai Bai had a very laid back vibe and a good beach Quite basic.
- Cathie (10/5): - The location was spot on . The two ladies that own & run the guest house were the most beautiful people . The home cooked food was stunning too . We loved the bar and the sea view . Such a lovely little island .
- Matthew (8/5): - Nice room with Mosquito net
Friendlly staff Poor internet connection.

- Rebecca (9/5): - A beautiful stay at the Dragonfly Guesthouse, the staff were so welcoming and friendly.. it felt like a little home rather than a guesthouse (big shoutout to Toni, who gave us lots of tips for our stay). It’s in a great location, just off the rocks you can go snorkelling and enjoy some lovely drinks in the bar. We would recommend to anyone! Nothing
- Baha (10/5): Dragonfly Guesthouse is the best place to stay at M'Pai Bay Koh Rong Sanloem! - Dragonfly Guesthouse is operated by the two friendliest, kindest, and most thoughtful people you could ever hope to meet. The location was excellent, the room was clean and quiet, and the bed was the most comfortable in Southeast Asia! Highly recommend Dragonfly Guesthouse to all who visit this island! Dragonfly Guesthouse is exceptional in all regards! But, the low season at M'Pai Bay has few travelers to talk with and few places to eat. I would recommend visiting during the high season.
- Nathaniel (10/5): Exceptional - This is a great little stay in M’Pai Bay. Lots of people flock to the bar/restaurant here for the beautiful sunset but as a guest you can get the good seats early (and enjoy your free welcome drink!) Room was spacious and despite heat still able to keep cool with the large overhead fan. The hosts, Trisha and Kristen, were both really friendly and great to chat to. Also, since our boat back to mainland wasn’t until afternoon, we were allowed to use the showers which meant we had more time to swim/snorkel.
- Luca (10/5): Exceptional -
- Emily (6/5): Pleasant - Nice location and they lent us their snorkels for a few hours. No AC, which we did know. No wifi, which we assumed was because of the location but other hostels in the area seemed to have good connection.
The bathroom is very basic, which was fine but could have been a little cleaner.
We booked this hostel because we are vegan and like to support vegan businesses, and it makes it easier to find good food. However during our stay the restaurant was closed with no prior warning.
- Kaia (9/5): Welcoming home - Great location, welcoming hosts
- Aurelia (10/5): LOVE - I love the Hosts
I love their bar/Garden with seaview Maybe a bit hot in the dorms
- Catherine (10/5): Had an amazing time - The staff is super nice and helpful, and the bar is located literally at the best spot on the island (unless you really want to be on the beach). You get the most amazing morning calm and sunset view. The room itself was ok, clean, and with a fan, but I a bit expensive for what it was (it wasn't in the best conditions) - I do however think they will fix the little things that need to be fixed.
- Paul (9/5): Booked here because of limited availability due to Chinese New Year. Very glad we did - Great location. Very friendly hosts. A little basic but still enjoyed our stay
- Noelle (8/5): Very good location! - The location, the staff and views 👌🏼 Only 2 things: No hot water in the showers & frogs coming out of the drains everytime we showered was the only downfall really but we got on with it as best we could!
- Clare (10/5): Exceptional - Dragonfly was exceptional. Tashsa and Kirsten were amazing hosts. They had great info and so friendly. The garden with the sea view was amazing and you can watch the best sunset from the rocks and also has access for snorkeling. The location was brilliant, very quiet but 2 mins walk to the main streets. They have a plant based menu and some lovely cocktails plus beer etc. I will definitely be staying here again. There was nothing to not like here
- Thi (7/5): Good -
- Misha (8/5): A great place to stay in M'Pai Bay Village for a couple of nights - We stayed at the Dragonfly Guesthouse for a couple of nights which was perfect for us to enjoy what the M'Pai Bay village has to offer - we loved wondering around the village, seeing the sunset, joining in the dumpling making classes etc. - it was fun but unfortunately the sea was too rough to do any snorkeling during our stay so we missed out on that, and we were even worried about getting stranded there, as the boats were not running due to the windy conditions but luckily it was OK the day we were due to leave. We were able to get $5pp boat to the Sunset Beach (which was beautiful) and $10pp from the Koh Rong island (even though that trip was a bit tricky and delayed because of the bad weather that day but should be fine any other time). I think it's good to stay different places for a bit and enjoy all that's there - I loved everywhere we stayed on the Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloen islands - the Dragonfly Guesthouse had a beautiful bar area, lovely staff and was a great base to enjoy the M'Pai Bay Village (but not so great for beaches or swimming). I would have loved to have a kettle in our room for an early morning coffee. I was allowed to get hot water in the bar area but felt a bit uncomfortable doing that (as a tress-passer :)).
- Erin (10/5): Fantastic💕💕 - Absolutely loved staying at dragonfly guesthouse it was an excellent experience from start to finish💕 we turned up and the was greeted by the lovely ladies and they offered us a complimentary drink on arrival which was great, they then showed us too our room which was may I add such a great value for money, so spacious, clean and colourful.💕the bar area was amazing with unreal views and the food ! Wow! The food! The hummus is to die for and as a chef I can say they are the best spring rolls I have ever tasted ever!!😋💕Thankyou so much Kirsten and Tasha we will be back!!🥰 Nothing we loved everything!! but if we had to scrape one it was probably the no wifi but it’s island life and that’s what you go for a relaxation. There is a few bars in mpai including next door with wifi so it’s fine💕💕
- Daniel (9/5): Stay here if you want rustic and amazingly friendly owners - Stay here if you want the feeling of being in a rustic fishing village. Staff are all lovely and very interesting. The homestay is so rustic and has a lot of charm (it’s a traditional Khmer style house).
- Merlin (10/5): perfect place for a relaxed vacation - such good vibes, the perfect place for a relaxed vacation on a quiet part of the island all good
- Jennifer (10/5): Exceptional - My stay at the Dragonfly was simply amazing! I loved the place - especially the wooden platforms just above the sea where you could easily spend your whole day just relaxing, enjoying some good drinks or nice veggie food. Christine and Tasha are super lovely people. They made me feel at home for the time I was there and I learned a lot about the island live talking to them.
Loved it! I’m coming back :)
- Randy (10/5): Exceptional - Great location. Great facilities. Natasha, the owner, is the sweetest. Would def stay again
- Moniek (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kursum (9/5): Superb -
- Lisa (10/5): Stay with locals in charming M’Pai Bay - Very lovely and welcoming hosts who were always happy to answer our questions or chat. They made us feel at home, gave us interesting insights into the local community on the island, and gave the best tips for local restaurants.
M’Pai Bay turned out to be a walhalla for foodies, with some must-try restaurants!!! We had some of the most amazing food here. If you want to experience the true charm of this village and eat in all the superb local restaurants, I definitely recommend staying in M’Pai Bay. You can visit the other beaches of the island easily via taxi boat (5$ pp).
Dragonfly Guesthouse has a nice bar and lounge area where you can chill with ocean views, and their restaurant with vegan food is amazing.
The room was according to the description, with nice decorations and a private bathroom and balcony. It was a peaceful place to stay. The lack of airconditioning was something we had to get used to in the beginning, but thanks to the fan in the room and the ocean breeze, it was alright.
- Kahvecioğlu (10/5): Paradise! - I extended my 3-night stay by another night here. Honestly, you could easily stay for at least a month. Tasha and Kirsten’s hospitality, the location being a paradise, the wooden house I stayed in, and its incredible comfort all made me feel right at home. The place has a plant-based kitchen, and they’re currently experimenting with new flavors. My favorite was the Scrambled Tofu Wrap! It was amazing—I practically licked my fingers. The bar’s cocktails are also excellent. You can watch the landscape from the bar through the sea and the trees!
This is a perfect spot for vegan and vegetarian friends to stay at a very reasonable price while enjoying the peace of the island. There are also some small animal friends like cats and dogs around. In the evenings, there’s even a larger lizard buddy who walks along the upper beams of the bar, looking around. This place is truly wonderful—definitely visit! Clearly nothing 😳
- Miriam (7/5): Good - The room was small but clean. The cocktails at the bar were amazing. And the bar is a really nice place to relax. The owners were really friendly and helpful. The bed was really really hard, so we couldn't sleep well.
- Emma (10/5): Great stay - Absolutely loved our stay and ended up extending for another 4 nights.
Tasha and Kirsten are great hosts and make you feel right at home
Room was large and clean with comfy bed
Vegan restaurant and defo a must try so tasty with amazing views
Would definitely recommend
- Lucie (10/5): Perfect ! - Localization, the owner is really welcoming and nice, beautiful cats, bed really comfy and house really clean !
- Williams (10/5): Exceptional -
- Emma (10/5): What a wonderful stay with the best hosts. I’d come back in a heartbeat. - The location was an absolute dream. I’ll forever cherish the view from the cliff in my heart!
- Anne-laure (10/5): Exceptional - If you look for a nice place to enjoy the island, you are here right. The owner is one of the kindest person I met during my travel in South East Asia. The location is incredible for sunset, a few meters away from the center, very practical but quiet. I really loved my stay there and 100% recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a beautiful and genuine moment in Kong Rong Samloen. Thank you so much for everything!
- Maximilien (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kyle (10/5): Exceptional - I had the most pleasant time staying there and hanging out in the bar, and snorkeling everyday! Very welcoming and great sunset views
- Ambre (10/5): Exceptional - First of all, the location of this guesthouse is really exceptional, you'll find the most beautiful garden where you can watch the sunset and sip some excellent juices (big up to the banana and peanut butter smoothie 😋). We ate there one evening and the food was all excellent. We came for a short break on a island after a three month trip, we extended our stay by three more nights (and it wasn't enough) because we felt so good there, our hosts were so kind... we felt at home as soon as we arrived. This island has a magical energy and Tasha and Christen make this place even more magical, thanks to their welcome and their kindness.
- Kyle (10/5): Best place to stay in Koh Rong Sanloem hands down - best food, drinks and view of the sunset! - I stayed in a hostel just up the road and had a terrible night's sleep so walked down the road to find a better alternative. I stopped in to get the amazing peanut butter and banana smoothie and started talking to Tash... the next thing you know... I've booked to stay for a week. It is the perfect vibe, with an amazing menu, amazing cocktails, incredible people and even the locals go there for happy hour! I loved it so much, I didn't even bother going to Koh Rong because it was absolute paradise! Tash was the best host I've ever had and I miss her already ❤️❤️❤️ Nothing
- Uwe (8/5): Very good -
- Ayoub (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect place to chill and enjoy the view from sea and the sunset on the cliff I’ll definitely come back!
- Jenny (10/5): Amazing, affordable hostel - The room was spacious with a big bed. Provided fans for everyone and mosquito repellent incense. The staff were very friendly and helpful, offered to book our bus for us the view from the bar was lovely, with snorkelling opportunity just below. Great location, just a short walk to the bay. Toilet roll wasn’t stocked up enough. No wifi.
- Dylan (9/5): Superb - Lovely location. Basic but comfortable room
- Dorota (8/5): A convenient stay for a night - It was close to the rocks where the coral and tropical fish could be found. There was a nice sunset view from the lower garden/rocks. The owner was very friendly and suggested some good tours. It was comfortable for a night. It was a bit hot at night as there is no AC, only fan. After having AC in my previous accommodations it was hard for me to get used to the temperature. Apparently the island doesn’t get energy from the government and has to use generators as I have been told. The bathroom is downstairs and while I was walking there at night in darkness without shoes I hurt my toe.
- Justyna (10/5): Great! - Very nice place!
- Justyna (10/5): I recommend! - Everything! Personel, room, bed, view, clean!
- Luke (9/5): Superb -
- Bettina (9/5): Superb - Sweet and helpful owner, who always made sure that everything is good and interested in her guests
Nice view from the bar
Snorkeling spot right next to the property During our stay, it wasn't very social and there were no family dinners (as advertised on the pictures)since she just started to create a menu (so far only spring rolls)
- Zianna (8/5): Very good - Good room, had our own little patio space and ensuite. The fan worked well so didn't get too hot. Location a bit further out than some places, but it's so small it was only an extra 2 minute walk to the main part of m'pai bay which is nothing.
- Ella (8/5): Very good - We were there during a celebration weekend so there was no staff however the room was clean and tidy and the shower was nice and clean. Unfortunately there was no one there and the bar/restaurant was also closed. We had to wait a long time untill someone came with a lock for our door and to check-in
- Renee (7/5): Good - Great location, on sunset side of the island. Away from main beach but less than 1min walk. Great snorkeling right next to the hostel. Staff very friendly and helpful, English speaking. Best shower!! Sufficient fans in lieu of air con. A lot of mosquitoes - a mosquito net for the beds in the dorms would help a lot
- Daniel (8/5): Good stay in M'Pai Bay - Beautiful space and kind staff Dorm room was quite warm at night
- Roger (9/5): Superb - Friendly owner, laid back place, basic but clean, everything I wanted really Nothing really.
- Oscar (10/5): Really helpful and kind owners who went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed our stay -
- Kathryn (10/5): Perfect budget island stay - Everything you could want from an island stay. Comfy rooms and fresh cold showers. The bar and garden were a great place to chill out and just down the rocks is a great place to snorkel and watch the sunset. We liked it here so much we extended our stay and our lovely host put us in a new double loft room/Annex with a balcony and it’s one of my favourite stays so far! Two local restaurants next door are the best on the island! Mosquito nets are a must, when we visited in January they were really bad
- Kathryn (9/5): Great island stay, bring bug repellent! - Great place with really great bar and garden area to hang out and rocky bay for snorkelling and watching sunset. Two local restaurants nearby are the best on the island, best food and best prices The loft gets very hot very early and host definitely needs to add mosquito nets to every bed because they were really bad. There was a chest of nets downstairs so we set up our own
- Chevereau (10/5): Wonderful place - Acalming place full of good energy. we were very well received, I can only recommend this place.
+ access to the sea from the bar
- Christophe (9/5): Superb -
