Guest Reviews
- Amanda (8/5): Great location and a nice place to stay when visiting York. - The house was in a great location and central to all the activities you would want to visit when in York.
There bed linen was nice and clean, as was the rest of the house. Very informative guest folder and nice touch with the tea bags and biscuits when we arrived.
The toilet on the middle floor was pretty noisy as it was macerater toilet so we tended not to use this.
There was also plenty of parking outside or near the property on the street.
- jeanette (8/5): - No breakfast TV, dishwasher and washing machine need instructions instead of QR codes for us older folks.
- Helen (10/5): Great location - great times - Spacious and extremely good location Nothing
- Barr (8/5): -
- Andy (9/5): -
- Stephanie (10/5): Highly recommend - The place was comfortable, very clean and in a fantastic location just a very short walk across the bridge into the centre of York
- Richard (9/5): Comfortable stay and excellent location. - Excellent location. Good facilities
- sandra (10/5): Awesome location great house for a sightseeing in York. - Location was amazing. Had everything you needed. Design was cute and it was clean

- Jacqueline (2/5): Smells Damp. Unclean areas - The lock box is on the side of the door - it's not difficult to obtain the keys Second time we've stayed so expected good things. Won't be coming again unfortunately. On arrival the house smelled damp. There was mould and mildew in the downstairs bathroom. The bathroom mat was full of mould and mildew also. The hand-held part of the shower doesn't stay up - it just slides down the bar and just spills water out of the part where the tube meets the head. I had to dust the upstairs cupboard shelves because, otherwise, my clothes would have been covered in dust. The other double bedroom was not dusted either. It wasn't just a little bit of dust (see pictures), this looks like it hadn't been touched in weeks. The fan was horrible and dirty and the windowsill outside in the seating area can't have been wiped/cleaned in ages. It's a nice house, close to the center, but whomever is cleaning this needs to be either retrained or replaced. We cannot see ourselves visiting Buckingham Townhouse again, which is a huge shame
- Charlotte (6/5): The location of this property was faultless. It is adequate for 2-4 people, staying only for 2-3 nights. On the whole th - The location of the property was fantastic, extremely central for everything. Very dated inside the property, full of bird muck in the outside courtyard. Hairs found in bathrooms within sink, shower and bath. The upstairs bathroom had all of the relevant facilities, however a notice to advise that the toilet could only be used for urinating was inadequate for 5 of us! Dirty windows which were full of dead flies on the inside was unpleasant and unhygienic.

- angela (9/5): Lovely house close to city attractions - A lovely house in a good location. Within walking distance of all the city attractions. Parking was easy. Clean & comfortable. Upstairs toilet very noisy at night. Very tight for 6 adults. The toilet being so close to the kitchen was unpleasant, especially as there were rules about the upstairs toilet. It was very noisy from the local pubs on Saturday night.
- Katherine (8/5): Super cute, central, perfect way to explore York - Loved the location, decor and amenities. Unfortunately the washer/dryer broke with our clothes inside. However, the York Stays team were amazing in getting it fixed rapidly and with little fuss- Thankyou
- Michael (8/5): An island of calm close to the main attractions - The location and the overall comfort of the house 1st floor bedrooms v small, carpet gripper nails on the stairs stabbing toes and heels on the way up/down stairs.
- Yee (8/5): Very good - Great place with things all nearby. Friendly host. The bathroom on 2nd floor can only accommodate pee ONLY. It makes 6 of us a little bit inconvenient.
- Anne (9/5): Superb -
- Donna (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely house , great location .
- Terry (10/5): One to come back to. - Perfectly situated within 10 minutes leisurely walk of the centre of town, in a serene street with virtually no passing traffic (it's effectively a cul-de-sac). So tastefully decorated and furnished, very clean and with all the facilities that you would expect. Managed by 'StayYork' who proved to be friendly and helpful. Hard to criticise, really. Although folk with mobility issues should be aware of a couple of flights of steepish narrow stairs.
- Sharon (7/5): Good - Five minute walk from town . The road was quiet even with a pub round the corner. We couldn't work the music Systerm, no batteries in remote had to keep swapping them from one ro the other.
- Tony (10/5): Exceptional - Well equipped modern interior close to all amenities
- Caroline (10/5): Perfect - Beautiful house. Great location. The booking team couldn't be more helpful. Would definitely stay again. Gem of a property.
- Julia (8/5): Very good - Cozy Too hot!
- Shadbolt (8/5): York for a weekend - Perfectly situated.
Dog friendly.
Well equipped.
Parking on site
Clean
Great for access to the city.
Lots of toys / games if you have kids These are more suggestions to either improve or descriptions that should have been clearer rather than dislikes.
We were 6 adults so I booked this as it stated it had 2 bathrooms. However the bathroom on the landing has a macerator toilet with a notice that it can only be used for urine ... so with 6 adults all trying to get ready this was a bit of a frustration.
Also if you are a larger person please note the shower room is very small.
The property is probably better suited to a family unit
The 3rd bedroom is in the attic / eves of the house and accessed via a narrow staircase. No good for anyone with mobility issues.
It also gets hot up there.
The front bedroom needs a black out blind as the street lamp is fixed to the wall by the window and shines in all night!
- Carole (10/5): Great location and lovely cosy cottage - Amazing location , quirky and characterful . Stayed for Xmas and it had some lovely thoughtful decorations too thank you
- Laura (8/5): Very good -
- Pearlyn (9/5): Charming and cosy place that is near the city centre! - The house is located near the city centre, which was perfect as everything was within a short walking distance. We had a car and the host kindly provided us a license to park just outside the house. The house was beautifully designed as shown in the pics, was warm enough in winter and the beds were comfortable. Could provide tissue paper in the bedrooms. The bathroom on level 2 was small, having more hooks for hanging of towels /clothes will help, more shelves to put our toiletries.
- Pollock (9/5): Superb - Loved the location,.within walking distance of the centre and the markets. There is a parking permit provided for one car. Parking being provided, within the city walls, is near impossible to find, never Free parking. Really couldn't think of anything.
- Gwenda (9/5): Superb -
- Sarah-jayne (7/5): Enjoyable stay in York, needed a bigger bed to be completely comfortable. - Great location. Parking was easy. Clean and beautifully decorated. Beds were tiny. Sofas lovely but very low. Heating was not working when we arrived, but sorted the next day after several phone calls. Instructions for rubbish clear, but no yellow bags to use as instructed. No instructions on what to do with recycling.
We felt that the boiler instructions could have done with being clearer (it refers to a black switch but there were two) maybe pictures or diagrams could have made this clearer. Fan in back bedroom was broken. Hot water was beautifully hot but that could be a problem for families with small children.
- Carrie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rebecca (8/5): Certain areas wasn’t clean, underneath the chair was filthy. See photo attached - Nice location and well equipped There was too many notices around the property saying what we could and couldn’t do so didn’t feel like a home from home stay.
- Jacqueline (9/5): Wonderful property in a great location - Very close to the centre. Quiet location. Lovely terrace area at the back of the property. Fully fitted kitchen and a lovely Welcome Bag of goodies on arrival. Lovely fresh towels. Hair dryer. Fans in every bedroom in case it got a little hot. Lots of cupboard space for clothes etc Upstairs shower is small and the runners were off the bottom so the doors wouldn't close properly. The kettle ON switch was broken and we couldn't find any instructions on how to use the washing machine - but we worked it out. The hosts did say they would fix the little problems we encountered so it won't stop us from booking again
- Emilie (8/5): Lovely place with lots of space for a family. The best location and free parking. - Lovely place just some minutes walk from the main attractions in York. Perfect with free parking on the street with the parking permit in the house. Lots of space with 3 beautiful bedrooms. Our kids loved that there were toys, games and movies in the house. Small garden with outdoor furniture. Informative welcome folder and a small bag with tea, coffee and some cookies was on the table when we arrived. -
- Spalding (9/5): Superb - House was amazing in a brilliant location, and we had everything we needed. Having the little garden was brilliant. Nice touch having tea/coffee etc. Stylish house and beautifully presented. Would recommend. Mattress toppers on the beds would be ideal the beds were a little hard. I know that can be preference.
The first bedroom as you come up the stairs the door got jammed shut took 2.of us to get the door open. So we could not close door over.
The shower up the stairs is blocked and kept filling up. These are little things as we loved the house. Thank you.
- Jeremy (10/5): Good place and would stay again. - Perfectly placed just outside the main town so quiet. Close to pubs shops and the main areas. Has been improved since last time we stayed with a nice courtyard to sit in. The upstairs shower can back up a bit at times.
- Tracey (10/5): Perfect getaway, perfect location would recommend for friends - Great location only afew minutes walk to most attractions, bars and restaurants. Lovely yard to sit and enjoy morning coffee and glass of wine in evening. Beds comfortable Very small bathroom on first floor
- Stephen (10/5): 3 night stay for work - Location was perfect, close to all you need in york but far enough away so no noise Nights got chilly on the patio area, maybe a patio heater would have been nice.
Scared the shower upstairs was going to overflow as very slow to drain.
Apart from that nothing to really complain about
- Katie (9/5): Great house in a perfect location to explore. Warm and comfy house. - Brilliant location. Good size. Comfy beds. Lots of cobwebs all around the house. House was clean but cobwebby
- James (9/5): Superb -
- Taylor (5/5): The worst accomodation we have ever had in york - Quiet street close to everything Kitchen was not equipped for more than 2 people as only 2 tumblers, plates were chipped, and the oven was unusable as was caked with months of dirty grease, as were the oven trays. The second bathroom can only be used to pee, and the shower ran cold sometimes, so if a few are sharing it made it hard using the one bathroom. I reported the kitchen problems and was promised it would be addressed for next visitors ( we were there 1st week in December 2023) so let's hope it was.
- Helen (3/5): Great location and disappointed by the house. - Location Lack of cleanliness. Grubby cushions. Marked, dirty carpets through to bedrooms. Dishwasher not cleaning cutlery. Shortage of crockery, pans and glasses. First floor toilet with a sign saying 'For urine only, ANYTHING else use downstairs loo'. Downstairs loo/bathroom accessed through dining area, kitchen then backdoor porch area. Only one wardrobe between 3 bedrooms. Could do with thicker curtains to block out the streetlight.
- Rona (9/5): Superb - We loved the lay out and it felt comfortable for a family. It was clean and we like the loft room. It was very close the centre of everything and you could walk. York is beautiful and this house is in excellent location. 👌 The double bed in back room could be made bigger! But there comfortable and that's just me.
- Sahara (9/5): Superb - Great apartment right in the centre of York with everything walking distance!
- Micio1984 (9/5): good value - location back garden and cleanliness
- William (6/5): Overall it was adequate for our short stay but not for a longer period. - The location was excellent
The parking facility was excellent
The beds were extremely comfortable. We were not aware that there were stairs which were in fact narrow and steep particularly for our over 80 age group.
The kitchen was very poorly equipped regarding cutlery, crockery and the glassware was very mixed.
The outside terrace needs tidied up.
- Vicky (4/5): Disappointing - location and comfortable beds
- Kate (9/5): A great base for seeing the sights of York. Highly recommended. - Perfect location. Very central and also quiet. Very comfortable. Great selection of books and games. Everything you need for a relaxing stay in the heart of York.
- Debjani (8/5): A very enjoyable stay. The house was lovely with fresh linen and towels. Well equipped kitchen. - The property was very well maintained and incredibly convenient. Having the parking permit made life so much easier. There was a lovely welcome pack which was very nice. The general facilities were very good. The radiator in the front bedroom did not work no matter which way you turned the regulator. The temperature in the shower in the upstairs bathroom could not be regulated, it was either freezing cold or burning hot so we could only use the bathroom behind the kitchen downstairs. With six adults trying to get ready for a graduation, this was quite a difficult dynamic to manage. It would have been good if we knew in advance that the upstairs toilet could only be used for urinating in due to its waste system. We all ended up having to use the downstairs bathroom.
- Alex (8/5): Very good -
- Deirdre (10/5): We’ll be back! - Lovely terraced house with parking right outside. 3 double bedrooms were comfortable and clean-nice decor throughout. Fantastic location, 5 minutes from everything. Food hadn’t been cleared from previous stay in fridge. all else fantastic.
- Sue (7/5): Great location, disappointed with the upstairs toilet, but would recommend this holiday house. - Great location, just a short walk from central York. It was a quiet location and we could park immediately outside with the parking permit provided. There were plenty of kitchen appliances and utensils. The beds were comfy and the heating system worked almost immediately. The house was very clean. The upstairs toilet was a small room and the toilet was limited to wee (urine) only, which was very inconvenient. When flushed the toilet made a loud noise and water gushed back up into the shower. This would wake everyone up in the night. The sink in this room was a small corner sink and difficult to wash in.
- Karen (8/5): Very good - - Comfortable to sleep through the night.
- Easily to access nearby pub, restaurants, shopping and local shops like local Sainsburys.
- Good space the rooms. - Unfortunately one car is available to park on the road with permit holders only nearby the property. Another car parking which have to payment the machine ticket and walking about 10 minutes from property.
- Problem with the block toilet from upstairs and not allowed to use this through we stayed there for 5 days which I was unhappy because of my dad have health issues and have to use the toilet from downstairs. (the owners inform me know about the toilet problem before 2 days we arrived there)
- Grace (7/5): Lovely - Location, 3 bedrooms, good size kitchen and dishwasher. On street parking. Warnings about using the upstairs toilet in the bathroom. Would be better if it was more like the one downstairs, fully functional.
- David (4/5): house was disappointing in many ways and not of the standard we were expecting or hoping for. - the only saving grace for this property was the proximity to the city centre which was within easy walking distance The house was very cramped overall, small rooms and inadequate toilet facilities.
the outside patio was very unkempt and not at all attractive to sit in.The paving was weedy and unswept, there was a couple of rickety planks against a wall badly in need of painting and the wrought iron table and chairs were chipped with peeling paint.
- Drolet (9/5): Superb -
