Chris (10/5): Heartily recommend - I was in Halifax for a work trip and stayed here while a colleague stayed at a different hotel which was about the same price. We had completely opposite experiences in terms of comfort and quality, and should either of us go to Halifax again, the wool merchant hotel is on top of the list of places to stay.

Mohammed (10/5): Highly Recommended - The room was spacious the service excellent. The room was cold as one radiator was not working, but a portable heater was supplied. Dinner was brought to the room and was delicious. A great view of Halifax Minster as a bonus. I would highly recommend it.

Richard. (6/5): - Hotel nice and handy for town centre. Good free parking. Quiet warm bedroom (twin en suite). Good value for money. Room a bit cramped - couldn't get passed stool at dressing table unless it was moved. Water pressure in shower very low. Staff at breakfast provided cups by holding rim with fingers inside the cup. Struggled for ages to access the "very fast" wifi and eventually had to give up. Managed easily at next restaurant we visited. Cooked breakfast disappointing.

Rooms on 4th floor could do with a lick of paint to freshen them up and some decent beds really hard .... not enough teabsgs and milk in room no one about to ask for more ... problem solved just go shop and buy small milk and teabags .. eouldnt bother me but up very early with beds been hard only because i have arthritis in hips ..so we drank more tea coffee .. doesnt stop us staying here every year .. not far from all shops and bars and cheaper than ben in dead centre . lovely little hotel not far from train station
Neil (8/5): Handy Value in Halifax. - I paid £30 for a last minute stay so cannot complain about anything. Parking is free, staff extremely helpful & polite. The building & decor are a little tired but bed was comfortable, sheets pristine, shower spotless. Great value & good location with five minute walk to town centre.

Michael (4/5): Pulling the wool over your eyes! - The hotel was rated as great and to be fair the receptionist was lovely and really helpful however, we skipped breakfast the second morning(after paying in advance) as it was greasy and supplied in a takeaway carton to be eaten in our room. There were no chairs or tables so the first morning we had to eat on the bed. The room was not cleaned and so the smell of breakfast lingered throughout the day and night even with the window open YUK! The bedside had no power sockets so the table lamp was useless and the shower had mould all around the sealant. The wall behind the bed had the old headboard stain engrained into the wall and the bed was a standard size double bed which is just too small for for a couple these days. Finally £17 for a large G&T and Barcadi & coke and no ice available. Not at all impressed.

Emma (6/5): Ok... - The room was pokey and furniture dated. The walls are thin and I could hear the man in the room next door having a bath. However the staff were pleasant and there is free parking. It's close to town, Piece Hall etc. I'm in no rush to go back but it was cheap and cheerful and served a purpose.

Room spotless and comfortable, breakfast excellent, poached eggs done to perfection. Good stay and I recommend this hotel, only issue was my single room was on the 5th floor which was a hike around a maze type setup. Otherwise, really good and Halifax is stunning.

Deborah (4/5): Dissapointing - Rooms not cleaned to a high standard in room 402 no TV all weekend no management to complain too not good and hospitally wise very poor at weekend apparently only way to complain is via email Monday to Friday. There was 8 of us staying at this hotel also jacuzzi not working in room 306 and radiators very hot n no way of turning off in our friend's couple room. So not great stay altho the breakfast was OK.

Tresca (6/5): Spacious clean family room but uncomfy beds a cold - Only stayed one night for a concert in centre of Halifax. So hotel was perfectly located. Room was big and clean with plenty of towels but was freezing cold. We arrived to all 3 windows open and it was 3 degrees outside. T turned out later that there is a horrid sewer smell from bathroom.When we asked for a fan heater and extra duvets we were told sorry but no. The bathroom was huge but no heating at all. So we waited till we got home to shower.The really odd thing was the communal areas like corridors and reception were boiling hot. But our radiators never really came on. The three single beds were paramount to Torture devises from the middle ages. Thin mattress with many springs so noisy crunchy and painful. No duvets at all....its almost December??just sheets. So for us it isnt a place we would stay again. But worked out good for one night as price was very cheap. 34 quid cheaper on hotels .com than on booking.com . So thumbs up to Hotels.com!
Patricia (10/5): Very economical and enjoyable stay. - I arrived at hotel later than the final check in time. Katrina was exceptionally helpful in arranging for me to collect my key when put in a safe place. Everything went to plan. Room very comfortable and good tea and coffee facilities in room. Did not get chance to eat at hotel as had to leave however reception staff very friendly when I checked out. Would definitely recommend and would definitely return in the future.
John (4/5): Disappointed - Lovely hotel. Went to a show at the theatre. Rain was a pain so thought we'd have a drink at the hotel. 10.45 bar closed. Bit of sightseeing day after. Returning at 5.00 thought we'd use the hotel bar. No draught beer, minute selection of bottled so had to brave the rain in the evening again. Breakfasts on both mornings were well over cooked so made do with cereal and toast and jam. Seriously under staffed. A shame as rooms are lovely and staff doing their best.

stephen (6/5): Unlucky or What? - Our stay was marred by doors fire doors banging in corridor outside our room. (4) so our sleep was very disturbed. Mega disappointed TV not working in reception for us to watch World Cup Rugby Final. TV in our to om had some issues with interference contorting picture. Bar closed around 22.30 meaning we couldn’t get drink for a nightcap around 23.15hrs Receptionist - new employee- was fantastic. She tried so hard to please. Nicole (8/5): Good location, services could be better - The Wool Merchant is in a good location for peace and quiet and proximity to the Piece Hall and town centre. They offer free parking which was a nice benefit. I think the services could be a bit better. I booked a room with a king bed and was given a twin. The fire alarm went off several times over the 2 days, which was not only annoying, but a member of staff entered our room to check if we had caused it and was more suspicious than apologetic for the nuisance. This made us feel as though we couldn't relax. The owners should check their listing on this website as it claims they offer free breakfast but they actually apply a surcharge.

Had to evacuate for 30 minutes or so.Bathroom could of been a bit cleaner though not terrible. Plenty of free breakfast but have had better, quite bland food but as much as you want. Good car parking right next to the hotel. You get what you pay for.
dale (8/5): Lack of parking - Bad things are layout no map by the elevator to show where rooms are so we ended up walking into another room , parking space is an issue our second night there was no space for us to park because the spaces arent marked out and others left a big gap between cars they need to mark the spaces ,room was ok for the price we paid would probably stay here again but the parking situation has put us off abit

Claire (8/5): Bigger than expected room - We booked a suite as we do like space to relax rather than lying on the bed. The price was good value. We were amazed when entering the room it was a living room with Juliet balcony. The second room was bedroom which was size of 2 rooms. The bathroom as impressive size as well. Really clean. Fresh towels throughout stay, housekeeping were very good. Our only complaint about the room was no bedside lamps and no lamp in the lounge space. So we used torches on our phone to create low lighting. Secondly the Jacuzzi bath didn't work. 😞 The breakfast room was in the basement. It was a squeeze. Tables, people, hot food, cereal, juice, hot drinks toast all crammed into a very small space and food was self service. The juice was really weak and tastless. Breakfast was plentiful and basic, but overall good. The staff were friendly and allowed us leave our case before and after check out. Hotel is fairly quiet we did get woken at 2am by guest/s outside. This was just on one night and because we had every window open due to the heat. This is not a bad reflection on the hotel. 5 mins from everything in halifax. Great location for those using the train. We will definately come back if we can book the same room, as we enjoyed stay.

There were two workmen, one behind reception, but neither bothered to acknowledge me or point me out to the correct staff member. I had to wait a few minutes for her to finish, and then I pressed the little bell to summon her from the back room. Check-in was otherwise fine and I understand that it doesn't make sense to have more staff on, so it was fine. Booked a suite, was given a room on the 5th floor. Had been told there was a bath, but on querying it it was clear that this was an error on the Expedia site. The hotel's own site states shower OR bath. No suites with a bath were available. There is a lift up to the room, which all worked fine. Room itself was nice, in general it was clean and tidy. Bed was comfortable, room was quiet and the blackout curtains worked very well so it was nice in the morning not to be disturbed. The shower was nice pressure but I found it

Dermot (8/5): Funeral in Halifax - I stayed for two nights. Arrived in the evening and was greeted by Debbie who was friendly and a delight to deal with. I was at a family funeral in Halifax. The room was quite nice, reasonably clean and the bed comfortable. The breakfast was decent although it’s between 7am and 9am, my Dad would have preferred it went in to say 9.30 or 10am. It’s close to the centre of Halifax. All in all I had enjoyed my stay. I would say it’s a decent guest house. I requested an iron and board which was supplied

Verified traveler (8/5): Great family break - Despite being a little apprehensive due to some reviews we spent a great weekend at the Wool Merchant Hotel; from friendly reception staff on check in, to a clean, yet small, family room with Jacuzzi bath; delicious buffet breakfast even my teenage son got out of bed for!; room serviced daily; reception staff available and happy to supply additional milk and mug (oddly despite room sleeping four and us booking for three we were only supplied with two mugs!) whenever required; to being able to leave our car in the car park even after we'd checked out - thank you!! The hotel is close to the centre (we parked our car when we arrived and didn't move it until we left) without being in the thick of it which we were happy about. Plenty to do and see, highly recommend the Piece Hall and Shibden Hall & Park and if the weather isn't so good obviously there is Eureka! but we also took advantage of a great value offer through Galactic Golf/Electric Bowl who sell a family pass for £40 which covers up to 4 (only one has to be 16 or under) for adventure golf, bowling, pool/snooker and race simulator and you don't have to complete all activities at once. So many great bars and places to eat, too many to mention but we loved Halifax so I'm sure we'll be back and wouldn't hesitate in staying at the Wool Merchant again.

MH (2/5): A Total Shambles - I stop at this hotel regular always book a double or double suite room. I sometimes stop on my own or as a couple, my friend was joining me from Liverpool which takes 1.5 hrs and I was unable to check in due to the fact it was a double room which I have paid for and there was only one of us. Its the new policy of the hotel without a policy in place and on display. I am totally dissatisfied that I'm unable to check in and are expected to wait around for my guest to arrive and it wasn't that I booked a single room and tried squeezing another guest in. Totally appalling and not exceptable.

I had asked for a twin room the room we stayed in was a double so they unhooked the beds, it was no trouble to them. The breakfast is very nice. Quite full because of a concert on at Peice Hall the night before.

Advertised a welcome drink, that must have been the coffee and tea packet and tiny pods of milk. Small lift available Hall way had a stale smell. Small entrance door to hotel, very heavy to open, check in and out at the bar.
