• Kadri (7/5): Very comfy bed probably best suited for families - The bed was incredibly comfortable. The property was pretty with huge trees and a sunny balcony. There were a lot of transport options very close by. I was sick during my stay and the owner kindly brought me tea and was helpful with baggage carrying and storage. The outdoor areas and garden were in need of maintenance, there was a lot of grime on the exterior and the garden looked neglected. If it had been clean and tidy outside the place would have looked wonderful. The rooms appeared to all come off a common area rather than the private entrance promised. The proximity to the common area meant other guests could easily make disturbances. The washer and dryer had a high fee for use. The owner told my friend who visited me that they were not allowed to come into the property at all, although then this was then allowed for a short period of time. There was nothing stating that I could not have a visitor and I had paid for a room that slept three people. The experience was embarrassing for me and put a dampener on my overall stay.

• William (10/5): Great room at a great location! - The Jiwoljang Guesthouse is in a great location, walkable to many great restaurants and bus/subway stops. Hannah provided some excellent recommendations for local restaurants and was extremely helpful in every way needed. The room was clean and inviting and the bathroom had everything ready. We’ll be looking to stay here again on our next trip for sure. The price was a little high, but with all of the benefits of the location, we we didn’t feel like we paid too much.

• Franziska (8/5): Friendly host, clean room - great for short stays - The host Hanna was lovely - very welcoming and made sure that I knew exactly what to do and where to go when entering and leaving the place. I'd booked a triple room, which was definitely spacious enough for one person and very clean. The bed had an electric blanket, which I actually didn't need but was a nice touch. Towels and water bottles were supplied and replaced daily. When I needed to leave, Hanna helped me to call a taxi, which was great as the distance to the train station is about 20 minutes on foot, which is doable, but not when hauling a heavy suitcase! The water pressure in the shower was a bit inconsistent (temperature was fine).
• Rebecca (8/5): Decent value for money - Staff were really lovely - the lady helped me upstairs with my heavy suitcase and showed me round. Room was absolutely fine, basic but good for price. Location was decent. Slightly odd bathroom set up - the private bathroom was not attached to the bedroom, had to walk across a small communal space and was provided with a key to access my bathroom. Still fine though.

• Oliver (10/5): Lovely stay, recommend :) - The bed was so soft that it was so comfortable to sleep! Room was clean and the bathroom was individual, so it was convenient to use, and I spent my time comfortably in a quiet area. The transportation is also close to the bus stop and the subway is in the center, so it was convenient to travel anywhere, Hanna and Mom were kind, and communication was fast, so I would like to recommend it.
• Rosie (7/5): Very friendly host but could have been cleaner - The host is so lovely and very attentive if you need anything. The location is also good. Though the house is in a quiet area, there is easy access to the city centre and main tourist attractions. It's also only a 15 min walk from Seoul Station, so it is very convenient for travelling. The room wasn't as clean as I would expect The bathroom had mould and stuck of foul drains, which made our whole room smell. When we looked under the bed before we we left, we realised it was filthy, and there was literal rubbish under there from previous guests. Overall, I would say the accommodation is fine if you want something very basic, but I was disappointed after such great previous booking.com reviews.
• Lauren (7/5): Good - The bedroom, kitchen and private bathroom was clean, the bed was very comfortable, the location great and quiet, very close to public transport and attractions in Seoul. The host was responsive. I would recommend this place if you're looking for a cheap and comfortable bed after a day of sightseeing in Seoul. The entrance area and garden is not well cared for and needs updating and a good clean. The house smells of sewage and damp. The bathroom floor and toilet is always wet because the shower water goes straight onto the floor which is a bit uncomfortable.

Hanna was kind enough to show you the way, and she was kind to me and my friend on our way out. I liked the location because it was close to anywhere and the accommodation was quiet and cozy. And I liked it because the garden was beautiful and the room was clean. I will visit you again when I come to Korea next year!

• Ivalon (10/5): A sweet little getaway in Itaewon - This stay is in an adorable part of town. The house was beautiful and so comfortable to stay in. The host and her mother were both incredibly sweet. Wonderful to talk with and helpful with suggestions and information about the area and transportation. The room was spacious and had all the amenities we could need. Had a great time. Highly recommend! I sincerely have nothing to write here. The communication from the host and quality of the house were so excellent.
• Gia_nina (10/5): Wonderful, quiet stay - I chose this guesthouse based on the comments about the owners/staff, and they are indeed lovely and helpful. My only regret was not spending more time with them, but I think they try to give their guests space and privacy. The location is perfect: in a quiet area (never had a noise issue), yet 2 minutes walking from a bus stop. Buses from there take you to the main train station and city centre. You're basically connected (and very close) to everything that's important. The rooms are cleaned daily (they change the towels every day, even if you request they don't) and you have a common dining room where you can take your meals, if needed. The bathroom is separate, but it is not an issue, as it's a mere 10 steps away from the room. I highly recommend this guesthouse if you're looking for peace and quiet, but if you're a party group - not for you. P.S. Hanna, thank you so much for the breakfast chocolate cakes - they were delicious and a very thoughtful gesture. The only thing I didn't like was not getting to speak more to Hanna and her mom, while I stayed there: they are truly very lovely people.

• Ariane (2/5): We left after two nights and stayed somewhere else. We did not even try to get our money back, as they even argued with - The location was good. The room was clean. We were able to come a day earlier than in our original booking. When we arrived, they immediately asked us for the cash for the extra night, which we didn’t have in full (only half) since two different banks we went to didn’t take our cards (happens a lot with foreign cards). We explained and asked if we could leave the luggage and try a different bank. After a bit of back and forth, we were able to convince them. It seemed unnecessarily distrusting and a weird beginning to our stay. The entrance of the house is a mess, and whole house smelled a bit like it was wet in the walls. The garden could be beautiful but it is not being cared for. The room was cleaner than the rest, however it was not like in the pictures. There were water stains on the wall, the lamp was broken. The bathroom was not in a good condition at all. It’s clearly been years since the pictures were taken. There seems to be two women running the place, however the older lady was injured and was wearing a plastic bag around a seemingly infected foot. I felt sorry for her, and it also made me a bit uncomfortable as a guest.

• Danielle (8/5): Good budget accommodation for Seoul away from the crowds - A quirky old house in a quiet neighbourhood. I liked the area because it was not overrun by tourists and Korean BBQ joints. Haebangchon and Noksapyeong a 30 minute walk away. Namsan Park 10 minutes. The guesthouse is run by a mother and daughter, who both spoke pretty good English and were kind and helpful. Coffee and tea bags were supplied in the communal kitchen, as was bottled water. I’d booked the room with a bunk bed since I was travelling alone. The private bathroom for this room was not ensuite. I had to cross the common area to get to it, which was a little inconvenient. I missed not having a chair in my room, as I couldn’t sit on the bed because the top bunk was too low. It was good the other guests were quiet because there was a big gap under the bedroom door.

Bathroom facilities poor by Australian standards. Handbasin wobbles, toilet lid wobbles, no shower screen so water goes all over the bathroom floor.
• Helen (8/5): A good counterpoint to ultra flashy high tech Seoul. - The guest house is small and in a quiet part of Seoul. The room was simple and comfortable. The downstairs entrance part was a bit dark and cramped but the guest area upstairs was very pleasant.
• Melissa (8/5): Exactly what I was looking for. - I really enjoyed my stay at Jiwoljang Guesthouse. I will definitely stay there again if I am ever in Seoul. I had asked if I had a private bathroom and was told I did. What I didn't realize was that it was not ensuite. However, it was really no problem. Everything was clean, and the thing I loved best was how incredibly quiet it was. I slept very well despite jet lag. The surrounding neighborhood is charming as well! It is also very convenient to get everywhere by bus or metro. While I didn't see the owners too much, on my last day, the young woman got up at the time I was leaving (4:40 AM!) to see me off and give me a bottle of Starbucks coffee drink. If she had not, I don't think I would have made it to the airport on time since my ride, booked through Trip.com, never showed. She helped me to call the driver repeatedly, hailed a cab on the street for me, spoke with the taxi driver (I don't speak Korean), and made sure my credit card would work for payment. She saved me! Once they renovate their garden, it will really be lovely.

The owner was also super friendly to me and my friend when we arrived. There was free bottled water, slippers and some snacks as well plus shower gel.

Great value. Host greeted us with a snack and handwarmers. Staff met you at the door almost every time you come in.. Although they were super kind, I felt like my parents were waiting for me to come home. No TV or full length mirror in room.
