Guest Reviews
- Laura (8/5): Loved it. Thank you. - Quaint cottage, nice area. Little tired in places, but clean & tidy
- Guest (9/5): -
- Ben (10/5): A nice, warm, clean, cosy cottage. - A nice, clean, cosy, warm cottage. Decent pubs nearby serving good food. N/a
- Helen (8/5): It was great and so was the open fire at The George - The stairs were narrow, but it’s an old cottage and that’s how they were made. If you want wider stairs, stay in something newer, but then you lose the history and charm.
- Duncan (8/5): Lively cottage for a family break - Lovely little cottage ideal for a couple or family. We were initially concerned the road noise would be an issue (the road is exceptionally busy during the day) but the thick walls acted as an effective sound barrier. It was disappointing that there were no logs, firefighters or matches for the log burner. We managed to buy some at the SPAR across the road but they were very expensive and a local could have sourced them much more cost-effectively.
- Ben (7/5): A lovely little cottage in a great location with a few very minor niggles - It was a lovely little cottage, very clean and in a very convenient location for our short visit to the Jurassic coast. The hosts even left us a cake for our arrival, which was a lovely touch. The convenience shop immediately opposite was REALLY useful to have and the cottage was supplied with everything we needed for a lovely stay. The cottage doesn't REALLY have parking as the space to the side of the cottage is extremely narrow so you couldn't actually park a car there and still open the doors. It is also accessed over a 'hump' and then down a steep slope which caused quite a bit of damage to our car the one time we actually tried to get into the parking space. If you had a small 4X4 or crossover which was very short and had high ground clearance you would probably be ok, but with a very long, low saloon, our car grounded on the hump and tore a chunk off the underside as we tried to get back out again. It'd probably be safer to advertise it as not having parking on site. There is a small carpark opposite which cost just £2 a day to park in and which we were able to get a space in most of the time, so that's a resonable alternative.
The cottage is also single glazed, which probably isn't an issue in the summer when it's used the most, but does make it pretty cold in October when we stayed. Ok if you (like me) prefer to sleep in a cold bedroom than a hot one.
The only other issue which may be important to some is the fact that the only toilet is downstairs, not a problem for most people but maybe an issue for older gentlemen with poor mobility and a need to use the facilities a few times per night :-)
Also, only a problem for me being 6ft 4" tall but, some of the doors are original and therefore about 6ft 2" high, just the perfect height so that, as a 6ft 3" to 6ft 4" person you don't see the top of the door but WILL crack your head on it if you don't remember to duck. I ended up with a bleeding lump on my head after three days and smacking my head on them five times in exactly the same spot :-)
Final point which may be important to some is that the cottage is right on the A35 coastal road which is pretty busy all through the night. Personally, I don't mind a bit of traffic noise but it might be a problem for some.
- Mick (8/5): Lovely cottage, perfectly located. - Lovely cottage with all modern conveniences. Cosy, clean and in a great location to visit nearby towns and beaches. Driveway is a little tight and courtyard in need of a bit of tlc.
- Tracey (9/5): - It was a beautiful little cottage The bed was too hard
- Jo (10/5): Excellent few days away - Cost cottage in great location
- G. Elvidge (10/5): Authentic Cottage - The cottage was all mod cons, yet old and authentic..small garden lovely to sit out in..very comfortable beds..well situated for lots of walks and beaches..there was a cake and milk on arrival..flowers to welcome us.. Nothing to dislike..
- Charmaine (1/5): Never again - Car was damaged on the drive. I phoned the landlady because I was unsure whether or not the drive was safe to park on. She assured me it was stating "You just need confidence to park on the drive!" It's uneven and the angle of the pavement to the drive meant that it hit the underside of my car twice! There is also a raised drain in the drive where my car made contact with the gravel next to the drain. All the response I got was "Oh dear you should have parked on the carpark opposite no one else has complained!" That's probably because they were as foolish as me to believe the land lady or they were driving high wheel base vehicles - not a standard vehicle. It was that uneven that one wheel wasn't even touching the ground! I then had to wait several hours to park on the carpark opposite because there's only about 8 parking spaces used by locals.
Also the cottage is on the main road with single glazing and when lorries drive through you can feel the vibrations through the cottage whether day or night.
- David (8/5): Great location and well presented cottage with local conveniences (shop and pub). - Property very nicely presented and decorated. Kitchen and bathroom particularly good quality. Good sized rooms. Host was incredibly helpful when we had a problem with our car. Easy 20 minute walk to beach and great location for visiting local towns and beaches. Road rather busier than expected and patio garden not completely dog safe.
- Steve (10/5): - Very nice decorated and clean
- Natasha (9/5): A lovely, comfortable holiday cottage that facilitates exploring this beautiful part of Dorset. Thank you. - The living space works well with a easy to function in kitchen. We cooked meals every evening and 2 of us could easily work together in the kitchen which has a good atmosphere. The sitting room has comfortable furniture for dining and relaxing.
The bed in the well sized bedroom is comfortable. There is plenty of space and furniture to unpack properly. The ceiling light in the lounge produces a harsh quality of light that spoils the cottage atmosphere. So we didn’t use it. Enjoyed the pair of lamps but an additional lamp for the other side of the room would be beneficial.
- Kasia (7/5): -
- Yvonne (10/5): Exceptional - Very welcoming, hostess made us a home made cake on arrival Nil
- Joey (10/5): Exceptional -
- Donna (9/5): Superb - Left milk and homemade cake on arrival.
Games and jigsaws left.
Map and local magazine left.
Clean.
Plenty of hangers in wardrobe. Only downfall was lorrys are noisy as go past can hear at night.
Also if have a big car then park over the road and it's easier to get in and out re main road pay in day but free overnight.
- Phillip (8/5): Very good -
- Margaret (9/5): A lovely relaxing few days in a cosy cottage nicely situated for walks to Seatown beach and West Bay - The owner was easy to contact, left us some lovely cake which we enjoyed on arrival and the cottage was cosy and welcoming, ideally suited for the coastal walks and painting trips we enjoyed. Windows in bedroom difficult to open and one windows pane was cracked (which we discovered on arrival). Also bathroom/toilet led straight onto kitchen not ideal - but obviously we recognise the property is limited ref lay-out due to its size. However the cottage was very cosy, quaint and had a nice atmosphere. Pretty sunny back garden to sit in.
- Jenkins (6/5): Pleasant - great location
warm and cozy road noise was dreadful, hardly got any sleep.
crockery and cutlery was dirty.
- Katherine (10/5): Absolutely wonderful stay - thank you so much - host it amazing and very helpful - Host is wonderful and very helpful when we needed to extend the stay Nothing could be better - stay was wonderful
- Katherine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steve (9/5): Superb -
- Claire (8/5): It was a lovely cosy cottage with a great location. - The location was great Took my dog, the property is on a busy road the gate had a huge gap so you couldn’t leave your dog unattended as they can escape very easily.
- Caroline (9/5): Superb -
- Natasha (9/5): We would stay here again. Thank you. - The cottage was very comfortable, with rooms bigger than photos suggested. It felt like good value and we enjoyed our stay. Location was good for things we wanted to visit. The bedroom curtain allowed a lot of light in as there was something wrong with the track /curtain hooks (can't remember exactly). We used cushions to try and block out light.
- Beverley (7/5): We mostly enjoyed our stay. - Spacious and comfortable with a washing machine, iron and full fridge freezer. The stairs to the bedroom, parking at the property was dangerous and there were no instructions for the heating.
- Moira (6/5): Pleasant - Nice touch to have facilities on hand for a cup of tea/coffee on arrival (cake a nice touch too!). Cottage nice, if not a bit dated. Good location. A couple of lovely pubs just a few minutes walk. The Clock pub was particularly friendly and cosy. Lots of reviews about parking. Car park tight but do-able. Traffic noise. We were aware cottages are often located on the road, but the traffic was non-stop all day/evening long. It appears to be a main A road.
- Sue (9/5): Lovely comfortable cottage - Lovely cottage very comfortable everything you need for a few days away Nothing
- Louise (8/5): We enjoyed our stay and the host was readily available to answer any questions and had provided everything we could need - Lovely comfortable cottage with good facilities and garden in picturesque village in great location for visiting the rest of Dorset, close to the sea, cliffside walks, nice pubs and convenience store. The cottage is on a main road which is quite noisy throughout the day and night, especially in the main bedroom, and the driveway is quite narrow.
- Brown (10/5): Exceptional - Very cosy & comfortable and had everything we needed fully equipped Nothing
- Sylvia (9/5): LOVELY COTTAGE, EASY ACCESS, WELL EQUIPED AND FELT VERY WELCOME. - BETTER PILLOWS - BROUGHT OUR OWN AS PILLOWS ARE OFTEN OLD AND LUMPY
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
- Tina (9/5): Lovely cute cottage and amazing views - Lovely village bus stop outside cottage . Lovely pub up the road shame the other one closed down . Close to Lyme and west bay . Only lounge was a little damp smell maybe coz weather not been aired enough or the big rug needs a bit of baking powder thrown on it . But a lovely cute cottage everything you need . Lovely big bedroom . We loved it .
- Anurag (8/5): Very good -
- Sue (10/5): Amazing holiday with great accommodation and lots of beaches for people with dogs. Monmouth beach next to Lyme Regis all - The cottage was absolutely beautiful and well equipped. Very spacious and comfortable. The driveway wasn’t wide enough for our car (bmw 3 series so we couldn’t park fully in the driveway which caused a minor problem with builders turning into the driveway next door but we were off out for the day so easily sorted) also The man next door was a miserable person who complained when we lit the bbq. We moved it to the driveway and he still ranted over the fence telling us holiday makers to go home and that they had to live there! When we apologised and asked what we could do he told us to put out the bbq and go home! Not a nice man but his wife was lovely…
- Trudy (9/5): A lovely weekend walking - Cottage was very clean and cosy. Ideal location for exploring either on foot or by car. 15 minute walk to Seatown beach from the cottage There is a gap between the gate and side of the cottage that we had to barricade with the bins to stop the dogs getting out on the road. Not a major problem but something to be aware of if you have an escapee as we do!
- Kerry (8/5): Lovely cottage , ideal for a short break, very clean with good facilities. - We used the location for walking the Coastal Path between Lyme Regis and Weymouth. The car parking space was only suitable for a small car, I had to park over the road.
- Holly (10/5): Wonderful and relaxing, didn’t want to leave. - Absolutely loved it!
What a gem of a find..definitely will be back again. The drive is a bit tricky.
- Helen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kristian (8/5): Very good - Lovely little cottage near the coast, nice garden and a decent pub close Parking is very tight I had to leave my car on the edge of the pavement, it wasn't a major problem
- Michael (10/5): Very relaxing. - Nice walk to the coast, and close by to very good pubs. Easy access to other areas in Dorset.
- Suzanne (8/5): Very good - Suited us as the location was good. Just a short stroll to the beach, local shop and pub very handy. Cheap thin pillows...would be easy fix.
Not many utensils. Suggest serving spoons, a couple of extra dishes a jug and potato masher would be handy .
Road v busy. Didn't bother us in winter but would think in summer a nuisance. Garden needs re landscaping ideally but again didn't detract from our stay.
- Allison (9/5): Delightful little cottage - Delightful little cottage in a lovely location. Clean and cosy. Loved the character and charm but with the benefit of great heating, wi fi, TV etc.. Lovely little break over Xmas. Loved it. Nothing of any great relevance.
- Helen (10/5): Exceptional - Such a cute little cozy cottage with plenty of space and a picturesque village around it. Wish we could have stayed longer to explore the area - looks like we'll have to come back!
- Bruce (10/5): Perfect stay to explore a wonderful coastline we didn’t know, and with our friend Reggie dog; all very happy. - Cozy, spacious, well equipped, outside space. Good for exploring area, used Spar Car Park opposite, about 20mins walk to the beautiful beach, pub, caravan cafe of Seatown. Main road very noisy, so if you need windows open at night that would be a shame; luckily cooler at night for us.
Main road also used by fast drivers, be aware if you have young children or dogs, but close pedestrian crossing.
- Rachel (8/5): Practical for our needs, but very noisy with road traffic 24/7 - Really lovely cottage with good facilities
Host quickly posted back an item we left Situated on busy main road, very noisy
Rear garden was quite cluttered,
- Jo (9/5): Great spacious cottage, 15 mins walk to Seatown Beach. - Great location, just a 15 min walk to Seatown Beach. Cottage clean and tidy and a lovely cake left for us by the owner. Lovely safe garden for our furry friend. Close by to a couple of pubs, great food at the George Inn. Bus stops pretty much outside, which goes from Lyme Regis to West Bay. Would definitely recommend as a great stay all round. Nothing really not to like, minor things, perhaps bed mattress too hard but that's personal preference. It's on a main road and there is traffic noise but it wasn't that noticeable. Maybe a couple of serving/mixing bowls would be helpful. BUT doesn't detract from a great stay.
- Victoria (9/5): Perfect weekend break, cottage was perfect for us and our dogs - Located close to the coast and some lovely pubs - the George & Anchor Inn Charming cottage, close to busy road, but didn’t hinder us in any way
- Stuart (10/5): Exceptional - We had a lovely stay at Staddlestones with our dogs and the cottage was perfect. Really homely and cosy and had a lovely feel to the place. Debbie couldn't have been more helpful with prompt communications and helpful advice about the property.
I addition, everything worked as new - hot powerful shower, easy to use heating, dishwasher, cooker etc.
A point of note for dog owners - for such a cosy cottage there was a surprising amount of space for dog beds and a convenient laundry exit to the back garden to put feed bowls down and wipe any wet muddy feet etc. Perfect for doggy families! There's really not much not to like about this cottage - we loved it. Just worth mentioning (again for dog owners) , the iron gate from the back garden to the drive has quite wide gaps between the bars, so small dogs or narrow dogs like ours (we have whippets) can slip through. We easily made a barrier with the bins and a piece of metal gate that we had brought, but worth noting in case you do have an escape artist!
Overall, we loved this property and would love to return 😊.
- Stella (9/5): Superb - Beautiful cottage. Lovely to be welcomed with a delicious chocolate cake
- Ayfer (8/5): Seatown beach walking distantance, good pubs and clean cottage. - Friendly owner, well equipped house, lovely kitchen, good size rooms and bathroom. Clean beddings and good size rooms. The local pubs The Anchor and the George Inn served great food Noise from the road, uncomfortable mattress and pillows, damp smell and part of the garden with decor that did take the majority of the space! The key for the back garden door was difficult to use from
Inside.
- Helen (9/5): Superb -
- Simon (9/5): Really enjoyable and host told us about hidden gems that we might have missed - Clean cosy and comfortable, host was really helpful and prepared to come out at very short notice. Nothing was too much trouble Getting on and off the Driveway and the busy main road traffic which woke us up when the traffic started around 6 AM
- Vivian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Frances (9/5): cosy cottage in handy location - we had a wonderful stay in this sweet cottage which has been thoughtfully updated. it is in a nice village with a lovely walk down to the beach and overall a great location for exploring the fantastic coastline around.
it has been decorated to a good standard with nice new carpets and a lovely kitchen and bathroom. just a little road noise but this is to be expected from the location on a fairy busy road.
A few more utensils in the kitchen would be good
- Dawn (10/5): We have a really great time and would highly recommend the cottage. - Cottage was lovely, so comfy and very clean. Had a lovely few days. Everything nearby, had a great time. Highly recommend. Thank you Hadn’t realised that the road outside was so busy. Just not used to traffic! We live on a farm. Lol! Not really a problem.
- Sheri (9/5): Superb -
- Stella (10/5): Lovely cottage, close to plenty of amenities. - the size of the property was perfect, a nice sun trap of a garden too. parking, was very tight and difficult to get onto the main road as it was very busy. The alternative is to park opposite the cottage.
- Marita (7/5): suited our needs for a dog friendly property on our way home from Cornwall. - cosy, close to the beach and a great pub. tight parking space but managed to squeeze our long wheel based transporter in…. just! great walk to the Anchor Inn at Seatown. on a very busy road. tv kept
losing signal.
- Lynda (10/5): Perfect welcome and location. A lovely, clean nicely decorated cottage - Clean and cosy cottage. A nice welcome from owner via messages. Good instructions and welcome package. A perfect location for what we needed
- Caroline (10/5): A lovely, clean cottage. - The cottage is very comfortable, really clean with a modern feel on the inside but still retaining the charms of a traditional cottage. The beds were comfortable, kitchen clean with tea, coffee, a welcome pint of milk and cake. A decent sized bathroom albeit downstairs. But the main point I would happily stay again. If you don't live on a main road, don't be naive like me. You'll either need to sleep in the back bedroom or take earplugs with you. This isn't a dig at the property more of a be aware it's situated on a main road and is noisy even at night. The only other slight negative is that if your car is bigger than a Fiat 500, you'll need to park over the road in the small but free car park.
- Tim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stefan (10/5): Lovely property perfect for a family short stay - Lovely property- even nicer than the pictures! owners left us a delicious chocolate cake and the place was immaculate. nothing it was perfect
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kerry (10/5): Thank you for making our holiday a lovely experience. We loved the cottage n the character of it - Loved the cottage, location so close and a heavenly walk to the beautiful beach No complaints
- Julie (10/5): We arrived quite late and the chocolate cake was a lovely touch. We were a family of 4 and only stayed for one night but - Everything. it’s very well presented with a lovely homely feel. It being on a very busy main road…. and little grass area in the garden would be nice
- Stephen (10/5): A wonderful cottage for exploring Dorset - Very easy check in with helpful instructions from host. The cottage was so well equipped and spotlessly clean. The beach was only a 15 minute walk away down footpaths and pretty countryside lanes. A great base for exploring the Dorset coast.
- Mary (10/5): Lovely cottage for a family. - Thoughtful little beach-themed touches around the house make it very cozy. Love all the artwork around. A little Spar and electric car charging point directly across the road are very handy (esp the EV charging point). Small enclosed garden at the back is great for our dog. The back porch is excellent for wiping down our dog before letting him into the house. A garden hose would have been handy, but we found a jug.
Bedrooms are clean, beds are comfortable and warm.
Kitchen is well equipped (although we didn’t cook as only stayed one night). Owner left us a yummy chocolate cake as welcome and was thoroughly enjoyed by all after a long day.
Check-in instructions were clear and easy to follow.
Overall a great stay. Will definitely come back. Thank you so much. We couldn’t find your guestbook to sign. The drive is a little narrow (we have a Nissan Leaf). But we managed.
