Guest Reviews
- Kalliopi (9/5): - Excellent, spacious room with a view and a private bath and toilet. N/A
- Wong (10/5): Recommend the cottage. Enough for three. - I got the biggest cottage. Had three bed on main level and two on upper bunk. Walked out to little patio, big bathhouse attached to the room. Laundry machine and kitchenette in the room. No daily room cleaning, I wish I could sweep the floor. By the third day, the floor needed a good sweep. Bugs and insects to be expected on the island.

- Katia (10/5): - Great location, very cute, nice scenery too! The owner was also very nice! We booked this place last minute for 3 people as our return ferry was cancelled but they were accommodating and made us feel welcome 😊 I think maybe when showering, it would have been good to have a hook for your towel somewhere but otherwise everything else was great!
- hatakenaka (8/5): -

- Kazusa (7/5): -
- David (10/5): - The view from the balcony, quiet and near the bus stoo. Nothing
- philippe (8/5): Bien - Propre Chambre vraiment petite
- Lenneke (7/5): Better when you have a car. - The room was quite nice. The airco worked well and I loved the wooden details. The hammoc on the porch was also a nice touch. I really missed a laundry, especially on an island where you are doin a lot of outdoor sports. Also, the female owner was nice and really wanted to help, but I got the idea that the hotel is more her thing and that her husband is okey with it. I didn't really think he likes it that much. Lastly, the location is a bit far from a usefull bus stop (there is one nearby, but the busses stop there rarely). It is doable without a car, but I think people are better off at miyanoura city center. Ihad to walk on my own from miyanoura for 25min while it was so dark I couldn't even see the road.

I would highly recommend this place, if you are looking for a unforgettable stay on yakushima
- Yousei (9/5): -

- JComfort (8/5): - Quiet location, friendly staff and only 15 mins out of town. There was also the bus. Seemed hard to find any restaurants close by or in town for dinner. Great supermarket not too far away, though, which saved the day. The bus did not run very late.
- Natalia (8/5): -
- Vincent (6/5): better than nothing when you are stuck in Yakushima because of bad weather (no boat) - small patio bad noise insulation

- Laura (10/5): Great value stay - The place itself is simple and nice. Owners are friendly. No problems at all during check-in or check-out. The place is a little hard to reach, you have to drive up a very narrow road that traffic can come down at the same time. May hear your neighbours due to thin walls.
- Eric (9/5): -
- Courtney (10/5): Fantastic host, very helpful & attentitive - Great spot, nice views .
- Andrea (10/5): - Excellent location with a beautiful view. Also clean and the owners were very helpful.

- Jeremy (8/5): Very good - Great little cottage, really comfy and with lots of amenities to manage your meals thanks to the nearby supermarket There's a bus stop really close but very few buses a day stop there, get ready to walk 20 minutes from the Miyanoura ferry terminal if you don't have a car.
- Robert (8/5): Very good -
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional - It was beautiful location and so peaceful and quiet.
- Adam (8/5): Fantastic view! - Fantastic view. The porch was a great place to drink coffee and watch the sunrise. Although the rooms were small, they had everything we needed. Uncomfortable beds. Felt like dorm room bunks.
- Matthew (10/5): An excellent guest house in Yakushima! - The rooms are lovely—it is obvious the owners take great care of their accommodations. They are easy to talk to, and were very helpful with directions and knowledge regarding some of the more touristy attractions. Unfortunately a storm delayed my ferry back to the island, but they were helpful with extending my stay with them for an extra day until the ferries were operational again. I enjoy walking, but I know not everyone else does; it is a bit of a walk to get from Minnsyuku Yakushimaya to Miyanoura port. If you have the ability to rent a car and drive, do so, and you can arrange parking with the owners.
- Fouad (1/5): Congratulations to be the worst hotel and owner jn JAPAN - The view was nice I would like compliment them to be the worst hotel and worst treatment in Japan.
The beds were awful that you wake up with your back hurting. I ended up linking the 2 beds and sleeping horizontally to get some relief.
THE OWNER is the rudest person in Japan. When you have such a poor hotel and structure at least be kind. He came to know on our doors 4 times between 10 and 10.15. My wife was sick and we did literally 10 min more than the hour of checkin. He is just RUDE. Going out I saw the lady cleaning another room. It is just a sense of rules for him. HOSPITALITY ZERO. You will never sleep well at this place. The beds are the worst in JPlAPAN
- Irina (6/5): the price does not match the quality - The hosts were friendly and the room was clean. Good pressure of hot water in the shower Toilet flush was really loud, there was no shelves or cupboards or something else to make a decent storage of clothes. The beds were uncomfortable: you could feel all the springs in the mattresses. The duvet covers were made from a very small piece of fabric and barely covered the duvet. Because of this, the duvets were constantly falling out, which was very uncomfortable. At night snoring could be heard from the next room.
It is still very far from the center, if you don’t take a car, it is excruciating to walk so long to the place. I chose this hotel because I thought it was on the seashore and had a beautiful view. In fact, it turned out that the view was only of the neighboring yard and parking lot.
- Rhys (9/5): Superb -
- Camila (10/5): Exceptional - The location was great and walk able from the ferry port. The view from the room was exceptional and beautiful. I have traveled a lot within Japan, and this is by far the cleanest room I have ever stayed in. The owners were so kind and helpful. Overall, I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to stay in Yakushima. It was so calm and nice and a perfect getaway from our otherwise stressful lives. My only real complaint is the beds were a bit uncomfortable and springy. However, they provided multiple cushiony futons in the room, and after I stacked a couple, I slept like a baby. Some of the most peaceful sleep I have ever gotten.
- Lucia (3/5): Far away and cold - Affordable and owner tried to give me some advice about the confusing bus system. The AC is insufficient for heating. I set it on 32°C for the whole afternoon and the whole night, but I was freezing during the night. So I asked the owner, if she could turn it on 1 hour before my planned arrival from the trek. She wrote back that she does not provide such a service. Hm... should I rather let it on the next day the whole time I was away, as I did not want to come back to the freezer again after spending the whole day outside?
The matress is extra hard like concrete. I woke up in the night with a strong pain in my hip bone. At least I got up to Jōmon Sugi trek early.
The hut is much more dated than it looks at the pictures. I was informed, that my hut does not have the sea view, which I do not care about, but I got western style beds instead of japanese futons on tatami floor - like was on the pictures or the room I booked. I always try to book traditonal type of accomodation for the experience, so it was a pity :(
The hut is really far away from the city, and if you dont rent a car, it is really 20 minute walk downtown, which you can find out before, but note, that there are only 5 buses a day. [look for the bus direction Nagata from the city centre]
+ you have to get up extra early, if you want to catch the bus for Jōmon Sugi trek (which is not such a problem on that hard bed), because there is no bus so early. [generally, Anbo would be better for staying in Yakushima]
I also asked for a partial refund for 1 night, since I could not make it on time due to cancelled ferry (weather) - of course, it was refused.
Cleaning was poor, I found an used earplug and a contact lense behind my bed and there is mold inside the AC, which is quite scary and unhealthy.
At the arrival you get a leaflet stating, that this is a small family business, and that they know some things can be done better. Yes, customer care can definitely be improved.
- Lihong (8/5): Very good -
- Alec (8/5): Cabin with stunning views - Really nice little cabin with stunning ocean views! I loved spending evenings on the hammock outside. The beds were comfy, and the kettle and fridge came in handy. Also, the hosts were really lovely and gave us guidance for planning out activities. There's a bus stop just down the road which is useful for those without cars. Walls are quite thin, so we could hear our neighbours. There's also a loudspeaker outside that wakes everyone up at 7am. Be prepared for there being nothing else in the area, closest being the port and a supermarket about 25 min walk away.
- Sam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Melissa (7/5): Clean and comfortable - I loved the fact that the cabin where we stayed was very spacious. Clean bathroom and overall clean room. Relatively close to the Miyanoura port and close to activities on that side of island. The property had plenty of parking spaces. The wonders seem really sweet. Only downside was that the property was hidden and was hard to get to by car. The roads in Japan are already small but these were even smaller(not the property’s fault though)
- Denis (10/5): Gorgeous experience to stay in real Japanese house in a silent village. - It is possible to get to apartment via 25-minute walk even with small luggage. It has everything inside but be sure to buy food from supermarket in advance. House is excellent, not too far from a hill with great sea view. Some can dislike that at 7 o'clock there is some morning melody starts in the village, and in the evening there is goodbye message. Otherwise no dislikes.
- Adam (9/5): Superb -
- Anna (8/5): Quiet apartment a bit far to city. - View for room is amazing. Clean room and equipped bathroom. Suggestion. Add kitchen facilities like microwave and some plates and cutlery. There is nothing but refrigerator, cups and kettle.
- Laura (9/5): Very cozy and cute cabin with an amazing view. Really clean and super friendly people there! - The owners were really friendly and the view was amazing! The cabin is very clean, the Japanese bath super nice and all in all a very nice place to stay. A little side / table lamp would have been nice. There is a ceiling lamp which isn’t too cozy though. Plates / bowls would have been nice since close by isn’t directly a possibility to eat.
(9/5): Nice place ran by a kind couple - The couple running the place was very kind and helpful. We had an unpleasant situation and they did their best to help us.
Location was good and the room was comfy Reaching the place was a bit tough as the roads are very narrow
And the photos are not similar to the room (though the room is very nice)
- Frances (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jeremy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anna (8/5): Simple place to stay if you get the regular room, serves it's purpose! Ocean view extra nice! - I loved the hammock outside on the porch, it's a small and simple room but perfect just for a private room to sleep and private bathroom! The location is great, but I realized quickly you really need to rent a car on Yakushima island for the best experience. This place is about a 20 min walk from the main town, which is fine but it was not ideal it walk with my luggage from the port when I realized there was no way for me to call a taxi lol. But otherwise the 20 min walk wasn't bad! Just would've been a lot better with a car I really regret not taking the upgrade they offered me when I arrived! This is just on me, not on the place, but heads up that you should take the ocean view room / book it if you are able! They showed it to me and it was an insanely beautiful view, and it had a nice stone bathtub in the bathroom with a big window looking outside. I wasn't thinking and turned them down in the moment even though it was very cheap for the upgrade, then I regretted it for the rest of the time! My room was still fine, just a basic room but I couldn't stop thinking about the nice one lol
- Cristina (6/5): Pleasant - The cabin is really nice and clean. The area is quiet and peaceful, as advertised. While the property is close to the port (25 min on foot) it is also on a hill, so be prepared to walk if you don’t have a car because when we arrived at Miyanoura at 3pm there were no buses or taxis to help us carry our stuff. A shuttle service would be helpful in this case.
Also we would have appreciated if there was a basic dining area with a microwave to let us heat the food we bought - there was none in our room.
The closest restaurants and supermarkets are 30 min away.
- Yuqi (10/5): Exceptional - We received warm welcome from the lovely couple, who also gave us clear guidance and necessary help. About 1km from Miyanoura, this neighborhood is so quiet and beautiful.
For facilities, everything is extremely clean, the mini fridge and kettle are very helpful, no washing machine but understandable considering the space. We really enjoyed our stay here!
- Cyrill (9/5): Superb - The Room was great with a great view. It was very clean and spacious. The fridge was also bigger than in most accomodations. Awesome place! Owners were very friendly Unfortunately the wifi was broken during our stay which made planing a bit harder but it was just bad luck.
Else in general it was just easily noisy tough and i would have liked a little sleep lamp or warmer light, the only light at the ceiling was very cold and felt like the ones in a dentist clinic.
- Kiu (8/5): Authentic island living experience. - The wooden house was split into 3 double rooms. Staff was nice at reception house to show you the direction to your room. Hammock and chairs in the porch allow you to sit back and relax.
Despite the rain and wind, the room provides shelter with authentic island experience. Car can be parked right in front, like a motel. Located in a local residential area with narrow one-way street, it was not easy to locate the entrance by Google map.
Big spider hanging in the porch area, luckily not indoor, might affect you enjoying with the hammock.
- Amiani (8/5): Very good -
- Nicolas (10/5): Stay in a family owned place and feel like home - Staff very very helpful Nothing, everything was amazing
- Hau (5/5): Passable -
- Yorick (8/5): Very good -
- Lauri (8/5): Very good -
- Cheong (6/5): Too much for two person stay - Quiet Location is out of the way
- Tanaka (8/5): Very good -
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Gio (10/5): Exceptional -
- Claire (6/5): Overall a pleasant stay with a nice private bathroom. - My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights. This place is run by a couple who speak limited English but we managed with body language and translation apps. The location is further from the town center so it’s best to rent a car when staying there. Be sure the look out and follow the signs in Japanese for directions - Googlemaps was incorrect and sent us down dirt roads the first time. The wooden cabin was very cute and rustic, and we had a deck facing east towards the ocean, which made for a gorgeous sunrise one of the mornings we were awake for it. The air conditioning works well. The shower / bath tub and the toilet are well designed, and it is rare to be able to have a private bathroom for that price in Yakushima. It took us a while to get the hot water working the first night we arrived. It was 9pm at night and no one was at the reception, and since other appliances were turned off (like the mini fridge) my husband went outside to investigate if something needed to be turned on. When we finally got the boiler turned on the shower was very nice with good water pressure, and the deep bathtub was very nice for baths. The hot water boiler is run by diesel and causes a strong smell that you notice from the deck whenever someone uses it, and it also makes loud noises, so bring ear plugs! As others have mentioned, the town announcement goes off at 7am with a melody so be prepared and have ear plugs. The bed was the most uncomfortable I’ve slept on in Japan (we stayed at 8 different hotels in different cities / towns) - it was an extremely hard and bumpy box spring with no padding. I would have appreciated even a firm foam mattress. It was tough after we were tired and achy from all the hiking. Breakfast was NOT included with the Booking.com reservation, so if you want a Japanese breakfast you need to contact them separately, but there are grocery stores in town where you can get everything from yogurt and fruit to bentos and sushi, although they close at 8pm. Checkout is at 10am, not 11am like most other places, and they charge a late fee (I think it was 700 yen) if you check out past 10:15.
