- Angus (10/5): - Food was amazing, great spot
- Noah (10/5): One of the best places I’ve stayed - It’s location was very beautiful and the facilities were super nice N/A
- Peter (9/5): - Absolutely beautiful place. A little bit hard to get there, but it's worth it. The owner is every kind!

- Max (10/5): - Amazing location, the staff were all very friendly and accommodating, the food was all delicious and most of all, the views were absolutely stunning. The beds were also very comfy in the dorm room. The only issue was that the only spot to charge was outside the room if you were staying in dorms, and it was a USB rack so it wasn't the fastest.

- Dmytro (7/5): -
- Hemaka Umendra (8/5): - Very clean place with an amazing view of the mountains. Great host Pretty pricey for a dorm. If you want to eat at the hostel ( there arent very many places around), expect to quite a lot for fairly basic food.
- Cody (10/5): -
- Mihran N (10/5): Quiet, good value - Great view
Very friendly helpful generous staff More plugs for charging
- SundanceKiddo (10/5): Best sunrise in the heart of the Alps - Going up to the Sonnenberg dormitories is a bit of a hike in itself - which self selects the people staying there, resulting in the best crowd ever. I slept in one of the common dormitories and had the penthouse view from the window - a full view over the mountains and the sunrise in the morning. Chris is the most gracious host ever, and he is more than happy if you bring friends along to this little gem. That I only stayed one night.
- Ranganath (8/5): Lovely location. Very friendly staff. Clean and comfortable! Would definitely visit again! - Lovely location. Very friendly staff. Clean and comfortable!
- Breton (10/5): It was amazing - Very nice owners, they were really helpful and great. The rooms were nice and clean and it was amazing. There was nothing not likable about it
- Erika (10/5): Exceptional - Christoph was incredible. Such a beautiful place and the view is unbeatable. He was also so nice about dinner (which was delicious) and I mentioned I was living off bread and coffee and he made me a plate of vegetables after the kitchen had closed. Just so nice to talk to and super hospitable!
- Risman (10/5): Exceptional -
- Will (10/5): BEST HOST, AMAZING VIEWS, AMAZING FOOD BEST EXPERIENCE EVER - best staff ever! amazing people in an amazing place! CHRISSTOF was the best host ever so helpful, so funny, WE WILL come back
- Gastón (10/5): Wonderful - A bit tricky to get there after 5:00 PM (you can only walk from the village of Mürren)... but the views are worth it. At night, the starry sky overlooking the Edge, Jungfrau, and Mönch was the most beautiful landscape I've ever seen.
- Katrina (7/5): Lovely stay with an amiable host and friendly dormmates. - I really enjoyed the location and that it was more secluded from Mürren. We arrived on Tuesday, which was their "closed day" for the restaurant and most staff, but that meant we got to interact with the owner, who was a hoot! The dorm room was spacious with a modern bathroom and a balcony. I knew breakfast wasn't included and had thought I'd pay for it when I arrived, but it was really expensive, and the secluded location did mean it wasn't easy to run out for another option. The mattresses in the dorm room were okay.
- Chi (9/5): Superb - This Mürren accommodation is wonderfully located, offering classic Swiss charm. While it requires a bit of an uphill walk from Mürren station, you also have the option to ride a tram up and enjoy a short, scenic 10-minute downhill stroll to the property. It's a convenient choice for exploring!
Like many great places in Switzerland, there's a Coop supermarket nearby, perfect for grabbing essentials before check-in.
We found all the staff to be incredibly nice and helpful, making our stay very pleasant. The meals offered are not expensive and definitely worth trying – unfortunately, we had to leave early and missed breakfast, but it sounds like a good option for future guests.
A solid choice for a comfortable and well-supported stay in Mürren!"
- Raghav (9/5): Superb - The breakfast had limited choice
- Kaushik (9/5): Nice and lovely stay with good people and breathtaking views !! - Its so much peaceful area and so nice view with nice people
- Abbas (8/5): Overall everything was good because I stayed for one night. - The staff were warm and attentive, showing genuine care for the guests. Overall, everything was excellent. They don’t have any facilities for self cooking in the kitchen, If you want to cook something then you have to pay 10 euros for using dishes. There is no restaurant around hostel, you have to buy everything in Interlaken or Lauterbrunnen. They have chef and foods etc but it’s so expensive for budgeted travellers.
- Marie (10/5): Sonnenberg is a truly special place, and I already know I’ll be back one day. - Our 3 night stay at Sonnenberg Dormitory was simply unforgettable. The location is pure magic tucked away above Mürren with stunning views all around. Yes, there’s a little hike up from the village, but every step is rewarded tenfold once you arrive.
Chris, our host, is one of the kindest souls we’ve met. We shared a beautiful last evening with him, gathered around delicious wine, cheese, and charcuterie, enjoying warm and genuine conversation. It felt like staying with an old friend.
Thank you, Chris and the lovely team, for your generosity, your stories, and for making us feel so welcome.
- Mirjam (5/5): Passable - The 10 CHF breakfast was good - very nice fresh bread, but there was not much more value if you chose the 25 CHF version The atmosphere was a bit tense. One moment the owner would be very nice, helpful and smalltalk with you and the next moment he would be almost aggresive towards guest who had broken some rules that they were not even aware of.
- Desale (7/5): Good -
- He (1/5): Bad -
- Zaid (10/5): Highly recommend - and Chris is an added bonus 😀 - Everything was above expectations. The host Chris was amazing. We had a very warm welcome. We enjoyed our stay very much. And we end up going back again the day after 😀
I truly recommend it, and I'm differently going back.
- Julia (10/5): Homelike feeling far from home. - Quietness, the host, atmosphere
The need to hike to get there Could be a bit cleaner in the dorms
- Nicholas (8/5): Very good -
- Kirsten (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful - absolutely breathtaking location!! The owner was so friendly and kind!
- Winstead (10/5): Exceptional -
- Luke (10/5): Exceptional - Fabulous location, kind owner and great food!
- Sophia (9/5): Superb -
- Alexander (7/5): Good -
- Abilashbharthy (8/5): Very good - Loved the host! He was super friendly and got our room upgraded for free as we had to hike in the snow. The facilities were too good and it was quiet and calm as well. The location is pretty much among the mountains which was about 15-25 mins walk down from Allmendhubel station and it is advised to bring luggage as the walk path is rough as you are walking on the mountain itself I think? But still it was beautiful.
- Julia (9/5): Superb - The owner is extremely friendly and welcoming, atmosphere is warm and the views great It’s far from the city and uphill. Good start for the hike but not always convenient.
- Kaspar (8/5): Beautiful location, great price - Beautiful isolated location with amazing views, having a coffee watching the sun peep over the mountains was therapeutic. Accommodated for a late check-in which was also nice It wasn’t clear where I was meant to go ie which room I was in when I did self check-in, and the pillow was just a ball of fluff
- Cedric (8/5): Very good - The location (for the view in the morning and the easy start towards the trail) and friendly staff. The location (be prepared to climb 200m from the train station in Mürren as the hotel is quite far above the village).
- Ignasi (9/5): Superb -
- Colin (8/5): Very good -
- Alias (10/5): The last island of beauty before the abyss. - Such a fun place to chill and enjoy the weekend with new friends, hikers from all over the world! Smart intelligent people everywhere 👌 I didn't like that I have nothing to dislike.
- Mohammed (10/5): Exceptional - It's an amazing place to stay
and enjoy the beautiful viewpoints
The staff were fantastic people
I definitely recommend this lovely sonnenberg Nothing
- Rosanna (10/5): Paradise in the alps - Fabulous view and wonderful hosts
- Clarissa (1/5): Good price, good view,no soap, stinky blankets not laundry - I like the price, it's budget friendly and i like the view on this hotel, overlooking of the Alps. BUT THEY HAVE SERIOUS HEALTH RISK issue. Their soap bottle in the bathroom and sink is always empty and when I asked the lady manager to refill our room, she gave me the attitude saying i chose a hostel not a hotel where soaps are not provided, hello??!! Hotel or hostel, the soap should be provided by them or else they can get closed by health department due to health risk and unsanitary establishment! Also their blankets for hostel guests are made by thick material similar to wool, it stinks so much, maybe it is getting laundry every year or more! I stayed two nights and the guests blanket who left the day after my first night was just put back to the blanket shelf then same blanket was given to the new guest. This place can be a heaven sent to mountain hikers who need a shelter if they encountered a storm or heavy rain in the middle of the mountain and would not get a stinky blanket as long as it will help to keep them warm. Breakfast buffet not worth it, jthey will put jam bottles for the bread that is like 3-5 spoon left on the bottle. if you hike down to murren, just buy on the small grocery store there, better food less expensive. - Mikaela (10/5): Greatest stay of my life - The owner was probably the sweetest man I've ever met in my life, made me feel safe and comfortable and at home. The people staying there were outgoing and loving as well, legitimately forgot it was a business and not a group of close friends. The single only thing I didn't like were there being a bunch of flies but we were surrounded by cows in the countryside so you can't expect otherwise lol I just wasn't used to it.
- Kim (8/5): Good hostel for the money - I liked the view and the open spaces in the rooms. Very comfortable. Overall great atmosphere and very social.
Chris is a good host. I didn’t like that you have to pay extra for the bed sheets (around 10€).
I also think the breakfast could have been cheaper based on the quality. I did not eat it because I find better breakfast at nearby other hotels for same price.
- Namdol (8/5): A solo adventure turned into new friendships and beautiful views. - This is very much a hostel living scenario, I was able to meet a few solo travels and cultivate great friendships with other travelers and the hostess Maggie. The location is also secluded and beautiful! There is lots of hiking to do in the area! They acomodate you as best as they can! Due to the secluded area it limits your abilities with food. The food was expensive at the hostel so I ended up buying groceries and the host was gracious to allow us to use the fridge space, but if there was one provided for those staying in the hostel, that would be great. Also due to the location, many people were struggling with the walk up the hill, and lack of clarity on prices of bedding and extra charges. Better communication on the website and a call from the host to clarify would be nice! Def would not recommend for people planning on showing up after 9pm for one night stays!
- Vu (9/5): Superb - The hotel staff is super friendly and helpful. We are very happy to stay here
- Hicham (10/5): My stay was a heartwarming experience filled with beauty, kindness, and scrumptious food. - The Sonnenberg dormitories was simply enchanting, a place so beautiful it left me overwhelmed. The staff and the manager were incredibly warm and welcoming, making my stay genuinely enjoyable. I am deeply grateful for the experience. And the food? It was delicious!
- Anthony (10/5): Chris is by far the best host I’ve ever had at a stay! He was so welcoming, friendly, social, kind and just an awesome S - Located in a beautiful scenic valley and facing the snow capped mountains. A 15 minute walk up from Mürren with direct starting points to several other epic hikes. Very spacious lounge/dining area inside for the restaurant, as well as, a big terrace outside. Everything was clean, comfy and like Home!
- James (6/5): Beautiful but basic dormitory - This is one of the more remote places I have stayed, and if you like that sort of thing it is wonderful. Watching the sun set on the mountains and the stars in the sky was simply stunning!
The host was very pleasant and was able to serve me a beer even arriving quite late in the evening.
Free sparkling water was welcome.
The other guests were freindly and there was a good vibe. I know this is Switzerland, but for what I paid for a dormitory bed, it felt very basic.
I knew there was an extra charge for bedding and towels- I did hire the former and again felt it very basic with a lumpy pillow. The bathroom floor was usually wet as the shower door was broken.
The walk is described as 'a 30 minute uphill hike' - This is definitely true and anyone with a suitcase will likely struggle!
- Claire (4/5): Very very basic but stunning views and lovely staff - Beautiful views and staff were friendly and welcoming It is far from Mürren. 30 min hike uphill. Even if you get the funicular it’s still not that close. The rooms are so so basic. The pillows are disgusting. We paid 6 CHF for bedding and all we got was a base sheet. The beds are so close together, luckily not many people were in the room when we were there. The food in the restaurant was SO expensive. Paid the equivalent of about £30 for a basic chicken breast, mash potato and hard boiled veg. There’s no alternatives for eating up there so you have to pay. Also hardly any vegetarian options
- Arun (9/5): Superb -
- Levy (4/5): Disappointing - The host was very nice, the views are amazing The hike there from the gondola is a bit hard with luggage.
But the really bad part was the fact there was a swastica in my bed. Im jewish.
- James (9/5): Dreamland in the Alps. - Friendliest staff in Europe, especially Magi. Manager Chris was accommodating and a good chef. The natural setting in the top of the Alps cannot be beat. The very comfortable dining spaces seem to make guests open up and be more friendly, too. A truly peaceful stay. It takes a steep walk either way to get there from Murren. Not a hiker's path, but tough with any weight over 25 lbs. Direct route from Murren is a bit slippery. Taxi service from Murren, though expensive, can be arranged in advance. Hope the short dining menu can add two or three more Swiss specialties, perhaps rotating each day.
- Chi (8/5): OK -
- Anubhab (9/5): Superb - It’s a peaceful place to be in. Hosts are really welcoming and if you are a hiker like me, it’s a heaven as “Magic Maggie” can suggest you the best hiking routes in the area. The concept of early-birds and night-owls for the mixed dorm is another great piece of innovation. Looking forward to visit them soon.
- Dissanayaka (10/5): Exceptional -
- Munara (4/5): Disappointing -
- Divine (10/5): excellent - scenic views and hospitable host. hopefully more rooms to spare
- Paul (10/5): Perfect Mountain View’s - The staff, super helpful, super friendly.
- Edward (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jamie (7/5): Good - Beautiful views, nice staff, very cheap given the prices for other places in the Mürren area. For the price, this place is good. However, this should really be clearly advertised as just a bed in a big shared room and nothing else. It's very basic and the rooms were quite noisy/lights on until about 23:00 each night. There is no kitchen to use for guests. The breakfasts are very expensive which doesn't feel right, given there are no kitchen facilities for guests to prepare their own food. Also, as for location, it should be explicitly stated that this place is 30 minutes uphill walk from Mürren -- not easy with any large bags.
- Dolan (10/5): I was hesitant to book a 10 bed dorm up in the mountains, but I am extremely glad that I did it. - The staff and guests here were all absolutely fantastic. Highly recommend.
- ரவி (7/5): Lot of compromises - Good view of the mountains on the east. Toilet and shower fittings were great. It's neither a mountain hut nor a proper traveller's hostel. Very few power sockets across the entire property. No individual reading lamps. Staff don't speak German or they're terrible at it. They are part timers, so they can't advice you on the routes and actual conditions in the mountains. Food and drinks are both extremely expensive and at the same time very less in quantity. Not enough for someone who's dependent on that energy to climb mountains. No dry room or room for leaving hiking gear like poles and boots. Breakfast starts at 8 am, which is too late if you're planning to start early in the morning, without any alternate plans. My dorm room had only one toilet for approx. 12-15 people. Thankfully there were only 5 people when I was there.
- Denise (7/5): Slept great, the view was stunning. - - The remote location had a fantastic view and was quiet
- flowing sparkling and regular water at your disposal
- bathrooms were clean, always had hot water for showers
- nice owner - One outlet with 3 plugs only for all the guests in 1 room (which can be 10ppl).
- did not know sheets, towels were not included in the booking
- would suggest a mini fridge for dorms if possible - owner was nice to store my cheese in main kitchen fridge but I felt bad asking during busy dinner service
- even taking the suggested cable car up and walking down was a struggle with a suitcase bc it's gravel road. Leaving the dorms, lugging my suitcase uphill was a sweaty slow mess -though taking a suitcase down into murren would be longer and equally hard i think as its steep. Highly suggest backpack only.
- Sonja (10/5): Would definitely come back! - Beautifully located if a bit difficult to get to initially. Christoph is a lovely and very helpful host! Food was great. Dormitory bathroom was in the dormitory room itself.
- Srinivas (9/5): Superb - The owner is very helpful and responsible person.
- Kimberlee (7/5): Good - The view is phenomenal. The owner/chef is very kind who pays a lot of attention to the guests. The bathroom is renovated and very clean. The guest house is located near the top of the Northface trail hike, so that is really accessed. The location is a bit of a challenge. It's much farther above Mürren than I anticipated, so if you're planning to stay here, make sure you're prepared for a solid 20- 30-minutes walk uphill.
I stayed in the dorms, and the bed needed to be cleaned. It had some old food, dirt and trash on it. A simple sweeping of the beds (they're on the floor) would have sufficed. Also, I don't like being unaware of extra charges. I didn't know until I got there that they charge for a towel (6 chf) and sheet (6 chf), which was needed as the bed didn't feel clean. There are very few outlets, so it is a challenge charging your device(s).
Overall, I doubt that I would stay here again. It's the cheapest option in Mürren, but I'm not sure it's worth it.
- Riley (9/5): Superb - Amazing views from the property and easy access to hiking right outside the door. Very very clean as well. Really nice balcony attached to the dorms with amazing view. As a heads up for other travelers, this is very much so a backpackers place and less of a hostel - you will need to bring sleeping bag/pillow/etc or rent on-site. The walk up is also steep but doable - after doing it once with our backpacks the first time every time after that felt much easier. We wish there had been a fridge (we knew there wasn’t a kitchen) to store food from the grocery store to avoid walking into town each day. Also there is only one outlet in a room for 10+ people, it would be nice if a power strip was there so everyone could charge phones.
- Regina (4/5): Disappointing - The views from the hostel were beautiful. The hostel does not provide bedsheets and one has to pay additionally for them. Furthermore, the dormitory for 10 people had only one socket which made it quite difficult to charge the phone. Also, there’s no direct transport to the hostel itself and the hime from the train station is quite demanding, especially with the luggage.
- Tomas (9/5): Beautiful views. Everyone is very friendly and it’s just such peacefulp place to go. Loved it. Do be warned that it is a - The views and tranquility!!! All perfect
- Alias (10/5): Excellent mountain hostel, will definitely return soon. - Everything was really great, chef was friendly and personable, the breakfast was excellent, the dormitory comfortable and varied in sleeping options, and the location is idyllic and not too remote. I really can't think of anything to complain about.
- Malik (1/5): Bad -
- Tiedra (9/5): Superb - Breathtaking nature scenery, infront of the pension was the alps. Only one electric outlet, for charging phones
- Manivannan (8/5): Very good -
- Mendoza (10/5): Exceptional - Everything Nothing
- Glaiza (9/5): Superb -
- Saumya (10/5): The most helpful and kind owner!! :) - It is nestled amongst the most beautiful mountains in Switzerland with a view to die for. You can stay here for days on end to just enjoy the peace and quiet with the most hospitable people there are.
- Adelaide (9/5): Superb - The host is so lovely and the view is absolutely breathtaking. Facilities were very clean and you can even get food at the kitchen below (and access to free water). Massive plot of land covered in colourful flowers, cows with their calves and lots of hiking options. Hard to fault but be aware of the 30min vertical walk up the hill to get to the dorm, especially for those with big packs.
- James (3/5): Poor -
- Victoria (10/5): Great hospitality, value for money, fitness necessary if you are coming by foot. - Christoph’s warm hug and hospitality is exactly what you need after the hike up to the dormitories. Make no mistake, it is an uphill climb, make sure your heart can take it. If you have heavy bags, please take the last funicular up to Allmendhubel from Mürren before 5pm.
We had no regrets, Christophe received us right at the door and brought us warm snacks when we reached. Excellent service, dormitories were spacious and comfortable for our needs, you may leave your luggage there. Highly recommend! If you are about Google maps, follow directions to Hotel Restaurant Sonnenberg. Everything else was wonderful!
- Dhillon (8/5): Very good -
- Francisco (10/5): Amazing morning view, the owner was very kind and helpful despite not liking too much messages in WhatsApp (we were a bi - The location is amazing. I think there we should exactly know that it is supposed to do a tough climb until reaching the lodging. For us arriving later at night was an amazing experience to reach de lodging.
- Natalia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kearney (10/5): Idyllic - Postcard-perfect setting and Christophe, the host, is exceptionally good at his job
- Lindsay (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christopher (10/5): Most unique hostel I’ve ever stayed at. - Owners were so kind and helpful. So easygoing and hospitable. Super large room with lots of space. Location is a little bit of a walk but so perfect for anyone trying to hike or backpack.
- Christopher (10/5): Exceptional -
