• Murray (10/5): Loved it. Would go again! - Incredibly hospitable hosts who cooked us some wonderful meals. Super close to the ski gondola (easily walkable with 5 year old daughter). Fabulous little town to explore.
• Eliana (10/5): Highlight of our trip! - We had the best time staying at Yamayasanso!! We kept remarking to each other how we could not have found a more perfect accommodation if we tried. Everything was clean, the rooms were warm, the ofuro was an absolute lifesaver before and after the slopes, and every breakfast was the best meal of the day. The location is perfect, as short a walk to the gondola as you can possibly get, a quick walk into the heart of town, and not far at all from the bus station. But most of all, the hosts made our stay as enjoyable as it was. They stayed up late to check us in as we arrived at night, helped us buy our lift tickets and get oriented in town, and always had a smile and a laugh. We did not want to leave and can't wait to come back!!

• Harrison (10/5): - The best stay in Japan. The rooms are super comfortable, we had a fantastic sleep. The breakfasts are delicious, very healthy and filling. The onsen style bath was excellent, such a good way to warm up and relax after a day in the snow. The location is perfect, close to everything. The highlight of the stay is the beautiful couple who run the place, they are so kind, welcoming, and helpful.

• Simpson (7/5): Nice traditional place in good location. - Run by a nice older couple. Located close to the gondola. Rooms were nice and traditional on mats, shared bathrooms and shower facilities. Breakfast was traditional Japanese. Overall a nice place to stay if you are looking for more traditional accommodation. As I am over 6 feet, the traditional rooms are a little difficult given the sleeping on the floor and no chairs, however, it is all part of the experience.

When you need any info, the owners are always there to help. The dry room and the massage chair were also helpful after a long day on the slopes! Will def come back again :) Not at all

As soon as we arrived, the host welcomed us like family, helped us settle in, and provided useful information about snowboard rentals. The hostel is very close to the ski area—so convenient that we could leave everything at the hostel and just walk to the ski area! We stayed for two nights, and every time we came back after snowboarding, it truly felt like coming home. I loved the hostel, and everything was perfect, all thanks to the amazing host. 🩷 Thank you so much—I’m so glad I chose to stay here!

The room we were in was traditional tatami and super comfortable and warm. Loaction was convenient, 5min walk to the Nagasaka gondola.

• Ubonrat (10/5): Ski - Amazing trip - I feel like home. If you come for skiing, just walk up - very near main Gandola and ski shop. After ski, you just walk down to the town. This place is running by the couples. They are so generous. The wife cooked the dinner - very great and the best as I ever had when stayed in Japan ryokans. The place - big room, good view, well equipped and very clean - every floors have the basins and toilets. There have the massage chair, washing machine, ski keeping place Sure, that we will be back !! Memorable staying in this place. I really recommend !
• Jon (10/5): Wonderful place to stay - We loved this place. The room was comfortable and a decent size, the whole place was super clean, the location was great, and the owners were lovely. On our first night we did the roam around the village looking for a restaurant that wasn’t full or pre-booked. The rest of the nights we had dinner at the Yamaysanso. These dinners were traditional kaiseki-ryōri multi course meals and were delicious. Highly recommended. Will definitely stay again next time we are in Nozawa.

• Tipsfromatraveller (8/5): Family owned traditional Japanese bnb with comfy beds, lovely food and hot bath facilities. - Loved this family run Japanese bnb. Room was comfy and warm and we managed to get our large bags into the futon closet to make more floor space. Futons were comfy - just pile on more futons if you find it too firm. I requested a humidifier and that was waiting there for us. This style of bnb has shared bathroom facilities that are just perfect once you get used to them. Spotlessly clean and well appointed. Onsen style bath is available for women and men separately and up to two people use them at a time - don't be shy! Breakfast at 7.30am was outstanding every day. So many kaiseki options...and we had dinner one night as it is hard to get a table in town without a reservations. Vending machine and coffee/tea free of charge. Laundry facilities onsite and a drying area. The place was 5 mins walk to a large ski lift and ski rental area. The streets are a cute maze of character filled buildings and businesses. Try the public onsens, but be warned - they can be hot as lava! The family owns an elderly Akita Inu who was so cute. The husband walked us to a restaurant so we didn't get lost one night - SO helpful! Hard to find anything we didn't like but the stair access could be challenging for some people - it was tricky to leave in the snow.

• Rosie (10/5): Cozy and warm traditional Japanese inn! We loved staying here! - Loved this cute inn! It's in such a great location and within walking distance of shops/restaurants and the Nozawaonsen gondola. The owners were so lovely, helpful, and welcoming. The entire place is super clean and there's even a space to securely store your snowboarding/skiing equipment. The bathrooms are shared, but it's no biggie and they were spotless. The tub with running hot water was a plus after a fun day on the slopes.
• Ryan (10/5): Japanese home away from home - The owners of this place were the sweetest people I have met in a long time. They used Google translate to communicate and treated my son like royalty (which he loved). The breakfasts were Japanese style and changed every day, and they were constantly trying to ensure my son had enough to eat as he can be fussy over food. Location and proximity to the Gondola was great! There were tears of sadness when it was time to checkout. Not a big deal at all but the heaters in the room are on an 8hr timer so make sure to reset before going to sleep or you could wake up feeling a little frost.

• SIN KWAN (10/5): Convenient to ski field and bus station, spacious, comfortable, clean and bright room. Amazing hospitality. Highly reco - Hospitality is absolutely stunning. A family run small property. Owners are always in big smile, making our stay super pleasant. Room: Well managed property, very clean, tidy, looks very new. Room is spacious and bright. Super fast WiFi. Accessibility: 10 mins walk from bus station, a little upslope for 5 mins. 5 mins from public hot spring. 5 mins from ski gondola. Discounts: discount tickets available at front desk for equipment rental and lifts Amenities: Share toilet and bath room, well cleaned and enough for all guests even full house.
• James (10/5): Great stay! - Location was perfect - 5 minute walk to the main gondola. Accommodation was simple Japanese rooms with comfortable and clean futons for sleeping. Shared toilets but plenty of them and a clean bathing and shower area. The breakfast was substantial and very tasty - would recommend eating dinner at least once too - some of the best Japanese food and all home cooked! The husband and wife who run the place are very kind and friendly. We would love to return.

Very clean and comfortable traditional rooms, felt very authentic and cosy. Very close to the main Gondola. The owners are so nice and helpful they make the stay extra special.

• Matthew (10/5): Perfect for those looking for a non fussy, quiet place with warm hosts. - Homely accommodation, our tatami style Japanese room and shared bathrooms were nice and clean. Food was delicious and a lot of care put into it. The owners were an elderly couple that was attentive and cheery. Whilst we did not require too much interaction with our hosts the short interactions were great and they really made it feel like we were being taken care of. Fantastic place for anyone looking for a nice quiet and respectful accommodation slightly off the hustle and bustle whilst still within a minutes from town centre and slopes. Effective accommodation that has nailed all the simple but important aspects: cleanliness, warm hosts and great location. This is all stemming from a feeling that the owners really care about the level of service they are providing. There is a slight smoky smell in the hallways but nothing major.
