Guest Reviews
- Shaw (9/5): -
- Holly (10/5): Gorgeous stay that immediately felt like a home from home. -
- Lorraine (8/5): Peace in abundance on the Isle of Lismore. - It was great to move around in the house. It felt like home from home. I loved all the books on display and all the colours. Sarah's singing had a calming effect. The location was central for beautiful walks and a few visits to the museum and café are a must. We just loved our stay on the island. Nothing to complain about.
- Terry (1/5): -
- MIKE (9/5): Definitely recommended. Great hosts. Loved the meals. Make sure you have a swim in the loch nearby. - Fab welcoming property. Wonderful location to walk and enjoy the island.
- Owen (10/5): Fantastic place for a relaxing break - The atmosphere created by Sarah was fantastic. The facilities were as described. Nothing
- Nigel (7/5): Warm welcoming friendly hosts. - Lovely hosts.
Excellent home cooked meal Guests have to share communal bathroom/ shower/wc situated adjacent to bedroom.
Not a problem …if there aren’t any other guests staying ….but may be problematic if others are sharing.
- Stephen (10/5): A wonderfully, welcome and warm stay in Sarah and Yoricks home. - Spacious, practical and beautifully decorated by Sarah and Yorick’s own fair hands. Nothing
- Juliane (10/5): Exceptional - We had an amazing stay and will hopefully come back
- Jessica (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful hosts, lovely location Nothing
- Wergeland (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful place to stay and within walking distance of an old castle and the restaurant on the island. Good wifi, comfy bed, very charming home. The hosts were amazing - had some issues with the ferries getting on and off the island and they were very helpful between recommending drivers or dropping us off at the walk-on ferry when we were a bit desperate. Even had breakfast with us with freshly baked bread! This is not a complaint and is not within the host's control, but MAKE SURE that if you are driving that you prebook the ferry and are at the Oban ferry to get to Lismore at least 20-30 minutes ahead of time as the ferry leaving times are estimates due to tides or other complications.
- Kulawik (10/5): Exceptional - It is such a beautiful house. It was a pleasure to stay in it. The atmosphere is very welcoming and friendly. I would recommend it to everyone who needs to escape from reality and relax. There is nothing to not like in this house.
- Evandrog (10/5): A warm welcome in Lismore - We were made very welcome at Ballimackillichan. The impromptu musical entertainment was an unexpected treat. Thank you Susan and Yorick. Nothing
- Beth_lou (8/5): A welcoming and comfortable home stay - An extremely comfortable room in a pleasant homestay. Sarah and Yorick have a beautiful home and are excellent hosts, we had some great conversations and I felt very welcomed. A great place to base yourself if you're visiting Lismore. N/A
- Michele (9/5): gorgeous house in idealic setting just perfect for a getway - Hosts were caring and friendly and couldnt do enough to make us feel welcome. Location was gorgeous and atmosphere idealic.
- Karen (10/5): Lovely spot and nicely remote but near ferry and shop. - Fresh bread and chat. Lovely views
- Graham (9/5): Superb - Lovely stay for a night with Sarah and Yorick in their self build house. Great hospitality and interesting conversation. Music provided by Sarah and another guest was an extra bonus, together with a lovely communal evening meal. Nothing.
- Katarzyna (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful house, gorgeous location and amazingly warm hosts Nothing
- Susan (10/5): Magic - A house share with wonderful hosts. Relaxing and informal. DIY breakfast of cereal/yogurt seeds fruit wonderful bread jams and eggs if wanted. A magical experience in the most fabulous surroundings!
- Barbara (10/5): Staying with Sarah and Yorick was the perfect match for my wonderful Scottish Fiddle retreat. - Breakfast had good choices and was relaxed and friendly, like being part of the family. The location was just beautiful, amidst the folds of the island, with sheep and new lambs everywhere. I loved the small room which had a view right over to the sea and the Isle of Mull mountains. It was part of the amazing interior design, with the bigger overview as well as attention to detail everywhere. It felt a privilege to be here. Not sure anything could have been better. Sarah and Yorick were lovely hosts, and their offer of a taxi service to the ferry really helped me out. Thank you for everything!
- Victoria (10/5): What a find, great location on a lovely island. Perfect for exploring Lismore. - Amazing location, very friendly and helpful hosts. nothing.
- Anna (10/5): A beautiful, peaceful, social stay. - The croft is an absolutely wonderful, social space, more home than hotel, that Sarah and Yorick run as a fairly open house. It felt easy to feel integrated into the household and the community as a whole, meeting local crofters, and even singing and playing music with them! Its in a wonderful location for exploring Lismore (which is a stunning island), and is so peaceful and quiet, with lots of birds all around. That we didn't have more time there!
- Caitlin (10/5): Wonderful, can’t wait to return again! - Literally can’t wait to return again Sarah and Yorick are wonderful hosts. We were made so welcome, and completely pampered with the delicious food, hospitality, music and home comforts. The Croft is an absolute must for anyone visiting this lovely island, with breathtaking walks and views in every direction and a gorgeous room to come home to! I loved feeding the Shetland sheep, and even came home with enough wool to knit several pairs of socks!

- Iain (10/5): Lovely short birthday break in beautiful remote location - Breakfast was ideal. Dinner was also very good - so was the cake, thank you!! Use of hot-tub would have been good, but we understand the reason for it not being available during our stay.
- Tom (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marjolein (10/5): Perfect - I really enjoyed the entire stay! Beautiful house, with clean rooms/bathrooms. They checked in with us if everything was okay. The island is georgeous and they had great advice in what is fun to do there! I don't have any feedback. Everything was great!
- Jakubauskas (10/5): Exceptional - Everything Overly homely, feels overly intimate up to the point it's slightly uncomfortable, e.g. owner sleeping in the room next to me.
- Naomi (9/5): Superb -
- Lydia (10/5): Completely idyllic. - Beautiful and beautifully made house in tune with its glorious location on an extraordinarily picturesque island. We were made to feel completely at home by the owners. We liked everything.
- Tony (10/5): A work of art to stay in, and oasis of calm creativity - Sarah and Yorick were lovely hosts. Staying in their home was an oasis of calm. Like a living work of art inspired and built by them out of local materials we felt instantly at home. We will return
- Clare (10/5): Perfect stay - Lovely artist home. The host made us feel at home, with all guests eating together. Nothing
- Jon (10/5): Absolutely delightful stay - Stunning place all round Absolutely nothing. It rained but I don’t think that can be controlled
- Isabelle (10/5): I had the most wonderful time in this B&B on the beautiful Isle of Lismore. - Great location, fantastic hosts, delicious food!
- Karen (8/5): Very good -

Very good and calm place to stay. Highly recommend!
- Sheila (9/5): One negative, 99 positive. Would definitely recommend. - The hosts were so interesting and welcoming. The house itself was big but cosy, full of interesting crafts and handiwork.
We would certainly like to go there again and take more family with us. Only negative... the soap and general sparkle-lacking state of the bathrooms.
Easy fix. Didn't spoil our stay.
- Geoff (9/5): Superb -
- Hervé (10/5): Lovely place - Sara and Jorich are lovely. We have enjoyed our stay there.
- Stephenmbutler (10/5): Fantastic homestay. - Very friendly communal atmosphere and the music room was great.
Yorick and his friends ( Sarah was away) were perfect hosts and made us feel very comfortable and welcome. The food they cooked both nights was wholesome and delicious. It was great to meet other people from around the world - we had interesting conversations around the dinner table!
Lismore is a beautiful island, and we are already thinking about a return visit. Nothing!
- Moira (9/5): Just lovely - Interesting , comfortable, hospitable Nothing at all
- Jane (9/5): A lovely stay in a less visited part of Scotland. - Ballimackillichan croft is a very beautiful hand made home.
Sarah and Yorick were both welcoming hosts.
It was good to be able to share a home cooked evening meal with Yorick, Sarah and the other travellers staying there.
- Alistair (10/5): A great hebridean experience with lots of wonderful art and crafts on display. - We really liked how welcome we were made to feel and it was a very homely experience with all the public rooms, and hot tub being made available to us. Lots of choice for breakfast with a very attentive hostess. Really enjoyed the long table with everyone sitting together for a blether. We had the evening meal and the food was delicious. We felt the hostess went above and beyond what was required of her!
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anne (8/5): A special place on a special island - The location; the comfortable, quirky house; the creative owners; the healthy breakfast. Nothing...
- Katerinkaterin (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing people and amazing place, felt comfort like at home. No words to describe, had perfect days to rest, just what was needed after many months of working hard with no vacation. It was sad to leave and I liked on Lismore more than in Oban, should have stayed more than just 2 nights. Such a wonderful nature and people around. Also met Arthur who has 3 chepherding dogs, this was a great experience also. Nice people living on the island. And the piano playing..and the food cooked by Sarah and Yorick...perfect Scottish island experience. I liked everything.
- Markus987 (10/5): Cozy farm house on a calm island ;) - We recently stayed at Ballimackillichan Croft on the beautiful Isle of Lismore. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the characterful charm of this unique home. Sarah and Yorick, welcomed us with open arms. Their warmth and hospitality made us feel right at home. The croft house itself is a work of art – every nook and cranny filled with creativity and love. The home cooked meals were exceptional and we always had a great time and conversations at dinner. We also cannot forget to mention the wood fired hot tub from which you can see the stars at night. Lasty, we want to thank Hen for the for the captivating stories she shared ;) Nothing
- Lindsay (10/5): Fabulous, relaxing home from home - This is a gorgeous, characterful croft house in a fantastic location on the beautiful island of Lismore. Sarah and Yorick who live there welcomed us into their home and looked after us exceptionally well, including providing breakfast (lunch if we had wanted it) and dinner, not to mention any amount of tea and coffee. There was a very relaxed atmosphere and we were encouraged to come and go as we pleased. Complete heaven! Nothing!
- James (10/5): A little piece of paradise on a very special little island. - It’s a beautiful property in the most stunning settling, furnished with artistic flair and full of warmth and love. It’s where Snow White would go on her holidays ♥️.
Delicious dinner too with great chat around the table. Having to leave.
- Dora (10/5): Such welcoming hosts , idyllic setting ,lovely home cooking . Just exactly what a b&b should be . - everything ! plenty of quirky little spaces for hanging out , lovely bedroom . couldn’t fault anything .

- Suzanne (9/5): Superb -
- Aoibheann (10/5): Music, art and history in a beautiful organic package. - We have been travelling around Scotland and this was the first comfortable bed we slept in. Good company, considered conversation, friendship freely given. Go raibh maith agaibh a chàirdean Nothing
- Carol (10/5): A fabulous alternative to boring hotel chains. An ideal way to experience Scottish Island life. - Hosts were amazing and provided a home with a wonderful, artistic, creative vibe. Dinner was fabulous, home-grown and provided from the Croft. Wished we could have stayed longer!
- Scott (10/5): Exceptional deal for the price - The host were very welcoming, the location was lovely, and their home was charming. Considering the price was only slightly more then the hostel and it included breakfast and all the other bonuses a stay there is a great deal Nothing, I mean opening the gates to get there can be annoying but worth it for the stay.
- Pauline (10/5): Exceptional - I was made to feel so welcome. A truly magical place with lovely people. Recommend having dinner, as both nights the food was outstanding. I will definitely return one day for a lovely restful time. Can't complain about anything. Everything was so lovely.
